Problem in saving a file in TextEdit

When I try to save a file in TextEdit in Mavericks, I receive a warning such as "The file “Untitled.rtf” couldn’t be opened." although I use a different file name. And the file is not saved at all.
I would appreciate if this can be solved.
Thanks.

Fixed it: Delete preferences.
First, I was wary about deleting preferences because I used EasyFind to search for "textedit" and found many files in different folders throughout the OS and user folders.  I feared deleting the wrong thing.
So with the EasyFind window open with the search results sorted by date last changed, I opened TextEdit and then its preferences and made a minor change, saved it and then closed the app.
I then ran EasyFind again sorting by date last changed and the top two items were the only preference files that were changed.  Deleted those two and now all is well.
EasyFind is freeware found in the App store.  It's invaluable.  I use it often.

    I am trying to move one zip file from an FTP directory to another. I use the below code.
    OPEN DATASET gv_fname FOR INPUT IN BINARY MODE.
                    IF sy-subrc IS INITIAL.
                      DO.
                        READ DATASET gv_fname INTO gs_zip_bin.
                        IF sy-subrc IS INITIAL.
                          APPEND gs_zip_bin TO gt_zip_bin.
                          CLEAR gs_zip_bin.
                        ELSE.

                        ENDIF.
                      ENDDO.
                      CLOSE DATASET gv_fname.

    *Now for saving this file on the other folder,

               endif.
    The file get moved successfully. However, when I download the file on to my desktop and when I unzip it, it gives an error message "Cannot open the file; it does not appear to be a valid archive'.
    I also notice that there is a size difference between the original and the archived file as in the picture below.
    I tries using the SCMS_UPLOAD and SCMS_DOWNLOAD function modules to achieve this and it works perfectly.
    However, I did not find any documentation for these function modules and I am not sure if I can use them. I intend to run this program in the background mode.
    Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Dear BI Gurus,
    I am creating a CSV extension file for Sales. My Product is of 14 digit. For example our material number is 40000010203316. when I save that excel file as .CSV it saved as 4.00E13 format. I have changed the cell format into number and digit 0. Still saved as same. Because of this, when i load into BI, it gets loaded as 4.00E13.
    Can anyone help me to resolve this issue?
    With Regards,

    hi
    1) select particular coloum where u want to insert 14 digit number in a .csv formate
    2) there right click and goto the content menu and select formate cell.
    3) on the number tab select a number category. And decimal places as 0.
    4) press ok.
    now u just save the sheet but dont close it. just u need to minimise ur excel sheet. and then do the data loading. i think so there is no other way to solve the problem rather u need to do the same what i have mentioned up.

  • Problem - Photoshop Saving PNG files too large

    An issue has recently cropped up with Photoshop for me.
    Whenever I try to create a png-24 object using "Save for Web", in the program it will tell me that the file should be only around 1kb, it will end up in the folder 10-15kb, much more than I had intended.
    This has only started happening recently, and when I have asked co-workers to try and export the same psd files using the same method, the exported pngs are the correct 1kb sizes. So the problem is only with my copy of Photoshop.
    Currently I'm running Photoshop 10.0.1 on Windows XP Professional.
    Has anyone else come across this problem, or know how to fix it? I've tried deleting my Preference file, but that didn't correct the issue.

    Please describe the process in more detail (including OS etc.).
    Boilerplate-text:
    Are Photoshop and OS fully updated and have you performed the usual trouble-shooting routines (trashing prefs by keeping command-alt-shift/ctrl-alt-shift pressed while starting Photoshop after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved and making a note of the Preferences you’ve changed, 3rd party plug-ins deactivation, system maintenance, cleaning caches, font validation, etc.)?

  • Problem with saving pdf files to Mac

    Hi All
    I'm having a problem with pdf files.  When I get sent a pdf fielder email I can open it with no problems but I cannot seem to save it successfully to my Mac. I've tried opening file and doing a 'save as', copy and pasting and dragging and dropping but I keep getting the following message
    Adobe Reader could not open 'filename.pdf' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded).
    Any ideas how I sort this out?

    Can you use your email client's Save Attachments feature to save the file?

  • PROBLEM IN SAVING A FILE AS JAVA FILE

    PLEASE TELL ME ANYBODY RELATED TO THIS TOPIC,
    I WANT TO SAVE MY FILE AS .JAVA FILE ,BUT IT SAVES AS .TXT FILE.

    Man!! Looks like I'm thinking of everything from a develpment point of view!! Need to go out and smell the air!! ;O))
    Doing it by placing the file name in quotations is the best way to go about it, what I also do is that I set my windows to show me extentions for all files as well so that I know whats happening.
    Tools -> Folder Options [View Tab]
    Un-check "Hide extentions for known file types"
    then your file name will appear as abcd.java.txt, which you can rename removing the .txt part from it.... :O)

  • Problems opening saved pdf files on desktop

    I can open pdf files in Mavericks Safari 7.0, but if I save it to the desktop and try to re-open, I get error messages.  However, if a pdf arrives in an email, I can save to the desktop and it opens perfectly.  Any ideas, please?

    Back up all data.
    If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, there should be a setting in its preferences such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected. Otherwise do as follows.
    Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
    from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
    From the folder that opens, remove any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
    The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others.
    If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
    If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

  • Problems saving a file in Adobe Reader 11 after highlighting

    Hi,
    Has anyone come across a problem where Adobe Reader 11 seems to have problems in saving certain files after highlighting some text?
    One of our processes involves checking information and to do this we open up a saved PDF file in Adobe Reader 11 and highlight the relevant text to confirm the amounts have been checked, and then save the file.
    This is all done in Adobe Reader - not the full version and not using any external helpers etc, and running under Windows 8 64 bit.
    However one of our users is having problems with certain PDF files where, when she goes to save the file after highlighting, it comes up with an error saying that it can't save to this filename and requests that a new filename is entered. If we then save to a new file, and then save as to the original file it works.
    So basically this user is having to save the PDF file twice after highlighting - which is annoying.
    The strange thing is it appears to only be happening with PDFs created from certain applications on our system (payroll software and BACS processing software) whilst other PDFs work fine. Another user, also using Adobe Reader 11 and also using Windows 8 64 Bit, can open up the problem files, highlight text and save the changes without any problem at all, so it doesn't appear to be the files themselves.
    I've tried uninstalling and re-installing Adobe Reader without any success.
    Can anyone suggest anything?
    Thanks

    pwillener wrote:
    I'm getting something similar, but the message I get is "...pdf already exists. Do you want to replace it?"  I click 'Yes' and the document is replaced under its original file name.  This is using Reader 11.0.10.
    Sorry - I should have been clearer.
    She gets exactly that question, but when she clicks yes, then she gets 'The document could not be saved. Cannot save to this filename. Please save the document with a different name or in a different folder.' At this point the name of the document as shown at the top of the screen has changed to a ???????.tmp filename.
    Trying to save this document over the top of the original now works.
    It looks like something is locking the original file and only releasing it after the attempted save, which then allows the original to be saved over.
    Also using 11.0.10

  • Saving and opening files in textedit

    i am a brand new macbook (and mac) user and saving my files for default opening with microsoft word, but also want to work on them as textedit as i haven't bought windows for mac yet, and am still on the trial period. until today i have had no problem reopening files as textedit again, in spite of having saved them as word. but today when i tried to open as textedit and was informed by a popup that i couldn't because it wasn't in the right format, and could have been corrupted or truncated. Can anyone help me understand what is going on? cheers

    Just need to know a couple of things to try to help you.
    - Do files that you were able to open before, not open now, or are they different ones?
    - Can you make a new file, type a couple of sentences, save as a word document, and open in text edit ?
    - Are the files you can't open all old files?
    - No matter what I do, I can't open a word file in Safari. I am assuming, "new to mac" means you were a Windows user. Were the files you are trying to open from your PC, if so, how did you get them on to the macbook?
    All of this could have a bearing on your issue. Especially see if you can just create new file in your mac word trial program, type a couple of sentences, save, then try to open in Text Edit. If that works the legacy windows word files, or how you got them to the mac, could be the issue.

  • Problem saving gif file over the net

    I am using a simple loop to save files using a URL Connection. It grabs html files fine and they look right but when I used to to download an animated gif it had an error. It saved the file but when I tried to open the image I got a "drawing failed" message.
    I compared it to the working image and the sizes were identical. I also compared the characters in notepad and the beginning and end characters were identical. I looked at the preview in "My Computer" when you select it and it drew only the first line or so. This makes me believe it is a problem with how it switches lines when saving. I checked the ends of the lines though and they also seem identicall. Any ideas? Here is the code. Thankyou.
    FileWriter fileName = new FileWriter(saveFileName);
    BufferedReader in = new BufferedReader(
    new InputStreamReader(
    newConnection.getInputStream()
    BufferedWriter out = new BufferedWriter(fileName);
    for (;;) {
    int data = in.read();
    // Check for EOF
    if (data == -1) break;
    else {
    System.out.print ( (char) data);
    out.write(data);
    }

    GIF files are binary files and can be corrupted if you use the Reader and Writer classes. Use the *Stream classes, like FileInputStream and FileOutputStream.

    Need advice on a saving file issue. I'm having problem with saving a .pdf file to computer. Continually get an error message " This document could not be saved. There was a problem reading this document (21). This is new as this error message just recently started to pop-up.

    More information about this issue can be found here:

    A "quick" fix that worked for me was to uninstall Adobe... then download the base install for Adobe Reader 11.0.
    Then download each of the individual updates and run them sequentially.
    I've installed back up to the last security update which is version 08 and have been able to do normal Save As operations.
    You will have to disable automatic updates in order to stay at version 08 until Adobe resolves this issue in a later release.

  • Problem in saving modified rtf file in jsp

    hi,
    I have [b]problem in saving modified rtf file in jsp. My scenario is like this:
    I need to open rtf file in jsp and allow user to modify it, after user modifies rtf file in browser, user will press send button. After user pressing send button rtf has to be saved into destination directory(the directory from which its been fetched. I appreciate if any one could send me relevant code for the same.
    thanks
    ram

    1) RTF is not opened in your browser, but in an application that is set to handle the file type (like Word or Wordpad)
    2) from the web you have no control over what that application does
    3) conclusion: what you want is not possible using the web
    Other than that, asking for code without showing that you put some effort into the problem yourself is a sure way of getting flamed. You should know that by now, since you registered more than 2 years ago...
