Problem in scanning black and white documents using acrobat 9.0 pro.

when i select file from the menu bar -create pdf-scanner-black and white docment,  the logos and images from that page appear as black boxes. I have tried it with different scanners of same model and with different pages and on different machines. I have windows xp pro. Can someone please tell what to do to overcome this problem. Its really urgent....Thank you in advance..

The problem lies with the settings in your scanner's settings. I'd suggest trying to scan as greyscale rather than B&W.

You can't change it with Reader.
You'll need to either rescan it at a lower resolution or use something like Photoshop to reduce the current resolution.

  • Can't import Scanned Black and white photos to iphoto

Issue : When importing a *Scanned, Black and white, jPG* image to iphoto get an error message
Error message stats " The following file could not be imported. (The file is in an unrecognized format.)
Solution: Im not an expert but I think it's the scanner driver and the color profile it uses. Changing the color setting to RGB or color or changing the file type from JPG to Tiff may help. If you have already scanned the photos or if changing the settings do not help the follow the instructions to fix the photos.
    1. Locate the Remove.app Script
Location is : Macintosh HD - Library folder - Colorsync Folder - Scripts folder- Remove script
    2. Select all of the photos and drag and drop the photos on top of the Remove script. The photos will immediately be ready to import to iphoto and will still be the same location they where dragged from.
Tip: place the photos in a folder on the desktop then select all ( command-A ) the photos with the issue. This may make it easier to drag and drop onto the Remove script

    Gail:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. The reason you're getting that black thumbnail and full sized image is that iPhoto does not support the grayscale profile Dot Gain 20% that grayscale scanning embeds in those photos. You're best bet is to scan them as color. They will still look the same but have the RGB color mode and sRGB color profile that iPhoto can support.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • I have a CanoScan Lide 700F scanner ,how do I scan Black and white neg.and turn them into positives?

I am scaning all old pictures, docts,  slides ,but I have alot of b&w negs verious sizes, how can I turn  them into b&w positives??

    Hi Teddy.
The MP Navigator EX software that was bundled with your CanoScan LiDE 700F can be used to scan your black and white negatives.  To use the MP Navigator, please follow these steps:
     1.  Start MP Navigator EX and open the Navigation Mode screen.
     2.  Point to Scan/Import and click Film.
     3.  Place the film on the Platen.
     4.  Click Specify... to set the document size and scanning resolution as required.
     5.  When setting is completed, click OK.
    Important
Film may not be scanned correctly when Film Type in the Scan Settings dialog box is set to Auto. In that case, select the type of film in Film Type and scan again.
    Note
To scan black and white film, it is recommended that you select Black and White Negative Film or Black and White Positive Film for Film Type in the Scan Settings dialog box.
     6.  Click Scan.  Preview scan starts.  When preview scan of the film is completed, the preview image appears.
    Important
If a message for calibration appears, remove the film, then place the Film Adapter Unit over the first frame of the Film Guide and click OK.
     7.  When the calibration is completed, follow the on-screen instructions to load the film into the Film Guide, then click OK.
    Note
Preview image does not appear when the Preview before scanning checkbox is not selected in the Scan Settings dialog box. The scanned images appear directly in the Thumbnail window.
     8.  Select the checkbox of the frame and click Scan.  When scanning is completed, the Scan Complete dialog box opens.
     9.  Select Scan or Exit. To scan another frame, place the Film Adapter Unit over the frame you want to scan, then select Scan. Select Exit to end.
The scanned images appear in the Thumbnail window.
    10.  Edit the scanned images as required.  Use Edit Tools to rotate images, select a part of an image, etc.
    Note
First select images to edit. (Selected images are outlined in orange.) Drag the mouse or use Shift + arrow keys to select multiple images.
    11.  Save the scanned images.

  • Can I create black and white movies using the iMovie app for the iPad?

This may sound strange, but I actually got to the stage of regretting ACR several versions back, because you ended up with nothing to do in Photoshop.  When you think how far ACR has come since then, you can see how Lightroom (with the same RAW conversion engine and features) is all most photographers need.  Adding ACR as a filter inside Photoshop was a master stroke.  I wonder who thought of it?  Russell Brown would be a good bet, but Chris Cox has made it clear on more than one occassion, that us lay folk dramatically underestimate what goes into coding, intergrating, and proving new features.
BTW  That was not a straight line for some joker lauch into tails of woe about all the bugs that make it into final release versions.

  • Black and white printing using Gutenprint

My HP printer has no drivers in SL, but I can print using Gutenprint.
    The Gutenprint FAQ says
For most users, the work-around is to set the Color Model setting to Grayscale. This is not the same as printing in black and white only, but it may give you what you want.
For those users who must use black and white only, the good news is that the Quartz Filter for Black and White still exists. It's just not tied into the print window. The easiest way to use the Black and White option is as follows:
Go to print the document. Use the item "Open PDF in Preview" item under the PDF Services drop down menu at the bottom left of the print window.
When the document appears in Preview, choose Save As... from the File menu.
You can either change the name or use the Replace option when prompted. Select the output format as PDF and use the Quartz Filter to select "Black and White".
Make sure you have the name and location to save the document as you want it. Click the Save button.
The resulting document will be in Black and White and you can print it normally.
I can guess what this means, but I am not certain, so I would be glad if someone has a definitive answer.
My guess is that Grayscale usually prints using the colour cartridge, but that following this procedure lets one print using the black cartridge only.
This is an important issue. Given the cost of colour cartridges, I only want to use them when I need colour, not for plain text.
I would also be interested to know the difference between the two colour modes available, labelled Color and CMYK, but this isn't so important.

Welcome to the Apple Discussion boards.
The product brochure for the DP-C213 shows that PostScript is an optional add on. Are you sure that you have the PostScript module installed? Without the optional PostScript module, you will only get the raw PostScript code when you use the PostScript driver.
The Gutenprint generic PCL drivers do not print color. They are grayscale only.
The product brochure for the DP-C213 does show that it comes standard with the PCL 6 printer module. The best color driver would be the pxlmono/pxlcolor driver. You can download all you need from http://www.linuxfoundation.org/collaborate/workgroups/openprinting/macosx/pxlmon o. You will need to install three packages. The pxlmono, Foomatic-RIP, and the Ghostscript package.
Now for the confusing part. When you go to set up the printer use the *"Generic PCL 6/PCL XL Printer Foomatic/pxlcolor (recommended)"* driver. That will give you color printing. The OpenPrinting database is in error and only shows your printer to be a grayscale printer, so you *do not* want to choose the "Panasonic DP-C213 Foomatic/pxlmono (recommended)" driver. That driver will only produce grayscale printing.
EDIT: The URL for the product brochure is ftp://ftp.panasonic.com/pub/Panasonic/business/office/brochures/DP-C213_Brochure .pdf

  • Y70-70 screen : problems with the black and white colors

Hi all, I just bought a Lenovo Y70-70 Touch and already encountered several problems with the screen :- I had to change the notebook twice because of clearer zones on the black and because of dead pixels- The model I have now still presents irregularities in the black : if the screen is black, I can still see a few clearer zones on it, especially (but not exclusively) on the edges- concerning the white, I am a bit disappointed too : this color present zones that are sometimes ok, sometimes more yellow. Even if it is subtle, I nevertheless particularily see this effect when reading or typing, due to an optical effect that amplifies the phenomenom when text is displayed which tires my eyes. I also see it on colors like beige or grey. As I use this computer to play but also to work, it is uncomfortable. What I would like to know is if these problems are inherent to the screen, or if it is a defect. What should I do ? Did other people encounter the same problems ? I didn't find any setting to improve it. I found that these problems may be linked to these, reported on the Y50-70, supposing the screens of both models are the same (which I don't know) :- https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-P-Y-and-Z-series/Y50-Yellow-Dark-Yellow-Screen-Calibration/td-p/1868613- http://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-reviews/RCQNONXIKJJ5D/ref=cm_cr_pr_viewpnt?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B00MCJQ6MI#RCQNONXIKJJ5D Othewise this notebook is OK, playing with it is a real pleasure. Thank you for your answer,S.

There can be several things that could effect your issue. If you are using a color calibration device, it may change your white balance. Check and verify that you really are using pure white when filling, a value of 255, 255, 255 thats red, green, and blue. Check and see what color mode you are in, are you in 8 bit, 16 or 32 bit. Are you in RGB, CMYK, or other color mode.
I am sure there are a few other things, that I haven't thought of at the moment that can effect your issue.
The next question is what do you mean by black and white? or should I say how did you make it that way. Was it already a black and white (grayscale)? or did you convert it in photoshop and if so how. The reason I ask is there are more than one way to convert a color image to black and white and how you do it will effect the final outcome.

  • Problems with Photoshop black and whites...?

After comparing the black&white colours from Photoshop to Paint, I noticed that the black&whites isn't as "sharp" in Photoshop. I also noticed that the white colours isn't really "white" since I wasn't able to fill the white parts instantly with the Paint Bucket Tool, unlike using Fill in the Paint program. Does anyone know how I can get around this?

  • Black and white documents

When I had Photoshop Elements 6, I could import black and white dcuments (music) from my scanner, clean up the background and save them as JPEGs. I don't seem to be able to do that with Elements 12. I can't even make my way through the tutorials, which are geared towards photos, not documents. Is there a way to import such documents directly from the scanner into the program? And what's the best way to clean up the bacground so I get the crispest black and white JPEG possible?
    technodolt

    technodolt,
Probably TWAIN needs to be installed for this to show up.
    See this tech note:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/kb/twain-installed-photoshop-elements-9.html
Suggest that you close Elements, install TWAIN, reboot the computer, power on your scanner so that there is two-way communication, try again to access the scanner in Organizer.
Please let us know if that woks.

  • Printing Black and White in Adobe Acrobat Pro 9

    Hi there,
Can somebody please explain how to print my color pdfs as B/W so I'm not wasting my colour ink. I have tried many of the different settings but it keeps on going back to it's default?
    Thanks.

My biggest challenge is printing pdfs of schematic diagrams where color is used to signify "layers" in a drawing.  Hardest one to read is "yellow" on white for lines or text.
I found a solution, however it may apply to my specific printer only (Sharp MX-2300N).
From  the print dialog, select "Properties" next to the printer name.
From the priter properties popup, select the "Main" tab, and check "Black and White print".
From the "Color" tab, make these selections:
Color Mode:  Select "black and white"
Color Adjustment:  Check "Text to Black"
Color Adjustment:  Check "Vector to Black"
Other printers may have similar configuration options.

  • How do I scan large black and white documents, creating the smallest file size possible?

I am attempting to scan a 70 page document and prefer it to be a file small enough to send through regular email.  I am not interested in zipfiles, i am not familiar with them.  I have been scanning and converting to .pdf for years, using the lowest dpi reasonable, but my file sizes are still quite large (compared to other .pdf's that are emailed to me).  I know there is a way, just haven't figured it out.

Installation of Mavericks is the culprit here. Lightroom versions 4.4 and earlier are not fully compatible with OS 10.9.x. There will be no more updates to Lightroom version 4.x so the only fix is to upgrade Lightroom to 5.0 or later or reinstall an older OS on Mac.

  • Make HP7510 printer use other cartridge when printing black and white document.

    Hi,
    HP7510 inkjet printer.
Assuming normal black is used up. Will the printer continue with the
photo black cartridge to complete documets?
Can I configure the printer to do so?
    Claes

The photo cartridge is used for graphics and printing on photo paper.  You may be able to use the photo cartridge by selecting Photo paper in the driver settings.  This is not a recommended solution - printing will be slower and it may put too much ink on the page.  It may be an OK solution for temporary printing.
