Problem in sending multitrack project back to FCP

I want to be able to import a multitrack project back into FCP, with the most editability in FCP, but the only way I have found to do this is to export tracks and then find then in the browser and drag them into my FCP project. Is their an easier way to do this?

Pretty much . . . no. This is a feature I'm sure MANY would appreciate, the ability for STP to export a multi track project one could simply import in to FCP. As of right now, you can't.

  • Sending Color project back to FCP

    Hello Guys,
I am completely new to Color, so I apologize for this silly question.
After grading my footage in Color, I am sensing it to Render Queue for render.
    When it's done I go FILE/SEND TO/Final Cut.
First, it asks me if I want to change graded FCP sequence to match QT export codec.???
So that's the first problem, I have no idea what exactly that means??? (I had sent it from FCP to Color in ProRes and set Color Project Settings also to ProRes) so what should I change?
But the main problem is: When I send it back to FCP, footage looks exactly as it looked before being sent to Color. No grade changes. So I am wondering ... what do I miss?
    Thank you for any advise.

    Thanks for your help jPop.
I didn't use smoothcam. I sent my video from FCP to Color and then I applied a tracker to the pan&scan to do a tracking on the face of my character. I tried importing the "raw" files directly into Color without going through FCP and it did produced a file in the render file. The tracking was there but the image was cut in two... The frame is separated in two parts horizontally, making some kind of tile effect. First time I see something like that.
I found this on the online user manual of Color:
"Animating Pan & Scan parameters is not recommended for projects you’ll be sending back to Final Cut Pro, since neither keyframes nor tracker data can be sent back." :s
I'm going to try again with uncompressed video to see if that makes a difference. Do you think I could use the video that Color send to the render file and import that in FCP? If it is not cut in two...
    Best wishes

  • Sending multitrack project back to Final Cut pro, how?

    Hi all,
I ve sent an entire sequence from FCP to Soundtrack pro for adding sound effects and that worked great. All video and existing music and voice over were sent to soundrack pro and i ve added my SFX on 4 seperate audio tracks.
Now i want to send the SFX tracks i ve created back into FCP since the project hasnt finished. How do i do this? ideally i want each SFX clip i ve added in SP to be placed on FCP timeline.
One way will be to export each track with SFX individually from soundtrack pro and manually import these into FCp but there are large gaps of silence between SFX clips and i these ll be counted as audio resulting in unecessary large audio files.
    Any ideas?
    many thanks

You could do it that way. You could also do an "export mix" from STP. This will result in an two track stereo aiff file that you can then bring into FCP to replace all the existing audio. I always use a duplicated timeline for this.

  • Keeping my Set Ins & Outs when roundtriping Color Project back to FCP

After rendering my color grades and sending the project back to FCP, I'm loosing my previously set Ins & Outs on the clips in my timeline. For instance, some of the clips in the timeline will have shifted, the timeline is still showing the correct amount of the clip, just the wrong portion of the clip? So I have to go through and Slip edit the clips back into the wright spot.
Am I doing something wrong or is this common.
    My Workflow:
1)Working on ProRes Files in FCP 6.0.5
2)Set my in & out point on a clip
    3)edit into my timeline
4)play with my speed and ramping of the clips & get thing dialed in
    5)Send To Color
6)Color Grade all the clips in timeline
    7)Render Color (to original format)
    8)Then Send To FCP
9)**This is where I'm finding that I the clips are all in the right order and have the right amount of time in the timeline, it's just showing the wrong portion of the clips. Not all of them, just some.
    Any Ideas

Color w/ Time ReMaping Seems to work for me 98% of the time. Out of this 1min project with 13 clips all with special Time Remaping curves only 3 came back out of place.
Ya, well - that doesn't scale well.
The habit you build now you'll use on a 30 minute show. 98% will suddenly overwhelm you. Build good habits now and you'll never have to break them later (or have your client break your fingers as the drop-dead deadline fast approaches and you're tinkering with the slip tool).
And yes, I've had my knuckles rapped a few times before I took this advice to heart.
    Good luck!

  • Sending multitrack Project from FCP to STP on another computer doesn't work

    Hello,
I attempted to search the forums but can't find my specific problem mentioned. I apologize if I overlooked it!
I am attempting to send a Soundtrack Pro Multitrack Project from Final Cut Pro 6.01 to Soundtrack Pro 2.01 on another computer. When I do, the video comes through fine but the audio fails to transfer over.
    Here's what I did:
First I open the Final Cut Project, highlight all the clips in the sequence to send and click "Send to Soundtrack Pro MultiTrack Project". I select all options including the "Fully Rendered Video" Option. This project opens up great in Sound Track Pro on the original computer. In Soundtrack Pro I "save as" and make sure I select "Collect Audio Files", "Collect unused audio files", & "Collect Video File". As far as I have read, this should be all I need to make sure all of the audio and video clips transfer together with the STP file.
However, when I place this folder (including the media files) on a external hard drive and transfer it on to our other computer (set up for audio recording and editing) and open it up in STP I get no audio. The clips visually transfer and all the clip lengths match up with the video, however there is no waveform showing. A straight line at 0db is all that shows up. I check the clips in the bin and they show the same file size as on the first computer. When I select an audio clip and take a look at the actions tab it shows the name of the clip and under it it says "insert silence" (which was not there on the original computer). When I de-select the insert silence the audio still does not play (the straight line on the waveform disappears). I try deleting the "insert silence" action and the same thing happens.
I have tried doing this operation mulitple ways with the same result. Am I doing something wrong? The only thing I can think of is the file starts out on OSX 10.4.11 and is transfered over to leopard 10.5. I just tried doing the reverse operation (creating the file from the audio computer and sending it to the video computer) and everything works fine. No idea what this means. I need this to work the other way around so I can begin the extremely intensive audio work on this film while our editor continues the video edits so thank you very much for any help that you can lend me. It is greatly appreciated.

Could be a difference in OS's causing the problem, but I can't say for sure. You could try using the OMF export option instead. I almost guarantee it will work.

  • Send from Color back to FCP

At the point of sending color corrected files back to FCP from Color a window entitled "Send To Sequence Option" come up with the message: "Change graded Final Cut Pro sequence to match the Quicktime export codec?"
I'm using Apple Intermediate Codec in my FCP project and want to keep re-compression to a minimum. Being new to Color I'm not actually sure what is a stake here. If I press "No" does that mean my work within Color will be wasted or will if actually keep the color corrected footage in the Apple Intermediate Codec? I'm not anxious to switch codecs if I don't have to.
    Anyone have info on this?

    Stuart:
I am having the same trouble and am really mystified. I am working on an XDCAM EX 1080p24 35Mb timeline in FCP. I send all my files to Color, do corrections, and when I am ready to send my graded timeline back, I am asked whether or not to "change graded Final Cut Pro sequence to match the Quicktime export codec?"
Here's the mystery - if I click "yes", the sequence sent back to my browser in FCP is a 10 bit uncompressed sequence which will not play back smoothly for editing. Worse, if I click "no" the sequence comes back in what appears (according to sequence settings) to be an XDCAM EX 1080p24 35Mb timeline, but it also stutters, hesitates and won't play back, just like the 10 bit sequence, making editing impossible. (No rendering is necessary on this sequence when it is sent back from Color).
I have no problem playing the original XDCAM files on their timeline, but no matter what I do, I can't get my XDCAM files to come back to me graded from Color and play smoothly on their new sequence timeline even though Settings says it is exactly the same kind of timeline as the original.
Does anyone have any idea what is happening here and is there something I am doing wrong?
    Thanks, Rick

  • Sending from motion back to FCP

I highlight a sequnce or clip and SEND TO "Motion" and choose inbed content,
I make my effects and FILE<SAVE in motion and FCP reads a change. The video i sent was anamorfic DV 16/9. In motion I edited the fotage in 16/9 . when FCP reads the saved motion project it makes the clip squeeze to 4/3 in FCP. then i have to go into item properties and check the anamorfic box. Is there a setting that stops this switch of ASPECT RATIO's?
Does everybody have to do this when working in anamorfic DV?

I've heard this a number of times - You've just gotta set the anamorphic flag by hand. If you report it in FCP/Motion feedback, perhaps it'll get bumped up in priority...

Its never advisable to use JSTL and JSF together
not sure ... but if i were at ur place .. i will never use <c:forEach> and <c:if> etc with JSF
There are a number of reasons:
    1. Using JSTL actions and JSF actions means using both JSP EL expressions and JSF EL expressions.
Because of the subtle differences between these two expression types, it's not always obvious what's going on.
For instance, all variables in a JSP EL expression must refer to existing beans, while beans for variables in a JSF
value binding expression are created automatically if they don't exist. Another difference is that a JSF EL expression can't access page scope variables.
    2. When you use <c:if> to conditionally include or exclude a JSF action, the corresponding component is physically added
or removed from the view's component tree. This can lead to strange effects because the component loses its state when
    its removed from the view.
    3. The <c:if> action and the type of conditions used in the EL expressions represent application logic,
and it's better kept out of the template altogether.
Intead why r u not using JSF table ...?
the reason for null pointer may be u are declaring variable in JSTL and using as a parameter as attribute for JSF component
try using JSF table ... things shud get resolved ...

  • Sent FCP project to Soundtrack Pro but how do I get it back into FCP?

    Hi everyone,
I just sent to project from FCP to Soundtrack Pro and now I am wondering how do I send the Soundtrack project back to FCP with the audio adjustments?
I know this is possible I'm just having a barin ** moment today.
    Thanks

    this is your work flow...
1 ctrl click on audio> send to soundtrack pro audio file
2 in soundtrack pro make the neccessary adjustments (noise reduction by any chance?). apply filter
    3 save the soundtrack project...
when you save the soundtrack project, it automatically swaps the old audio file in FCP for the new 'sent' audio file... you don't have to 'export' from soundtrack to get the audio to FCP...
You won't actually notice the change in audio in FCP until you save the soundtrack project, and are working back in FCP.

  • Import a FCP project into PP and back to FCP

    Hi all,
my first post, so bear with me.
I have a client that uses FCP(version unknown, I am assuming it is x). Since I do not specialize in video, I do not own FCP (thought of it as unnecesary, I use PP...). He wants me to edit the video (simple stuff, voice layover, cutting a bit here, cutting a bit there) and then give it back to them. However, it is important for them to be able to import the project back to FCP so they can make any changes or add sensitive material, if needed.
Also, is the FCP free trial a full version for 30 days, or a trial version with a nasty watermark or non-working functions?
    Is this possible?

Your best avenue for exchanging between FCP and Premiere
is by exporting / importing .XML or .AAF files.

  • STP crashing when opening multitrack project

I am attempting to open a multitrack project saved from FCP 5. New Mac/Final Cut Studio user so am not familiar with changing preferences/permissions etc. The same file will open as Audio project but not as multitrack. PLEASE HELP!!! Let me know what info anybody needs to help solve dilemma.

I had the same problem, but I solved it by sending the sequence from the browser instead of from the timeline. Option click on the sequence icon in the browser - send to multitrack project. Try it.

  • Color back to FCP

I have been grading two films in Color, Shot in HDV, edited in HDV from FCP using multiclips (don't go there re Multiclips and color. Lots of prep needed before sending sequences to color) anyway. First film sent back to color no problem, second film send to color, export bar appears momentarily but no sign of the film in FCP! Can anyone explain?

A brilliant guy (Andrew Balis) told me to send my sequence to Color then send it right back to FCP before I do ANYTHING.
I'm not sure if I'm getting slightly off-topic.
Currently I suggest an additional step. After doing the roundtrip as Andrew suggests - follow up with a full render of the entire sequence and then send THAT back to FCP. I've had Send To fail after rendering that worked on a quick roundtrip - this additional step reveals quirky non-obvious problems.
It also came in useful once when Color crashed after a "real" render and lost the green render bars. Since I had kept that initial sequence in FCP I still had a good timeline referencing the rendered clips.
Just some thoughts that occurred while reading this thread...

  • File Export grayed out - in Multi-Track stmp project sent from FCP

The File Export dialogue is grayed out and I want to send this MultiTrack project back to Final Cut. I've read through these posts, and haven't found a solution yet. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.!

Ah, that would certainly make perfect sense. Thank you for that observation. Now, I feel better about the coding in PrE 8!

  • FCP Send To STP Multitrack Project - Audio out of sync

I'm editing video in FCP and sent the audio as a multitrack project to STP and upon opening it in STP the audio is already out of sync - even without touching it. I thought maybe it would go back in sync upon sending it back to FCP, but it stays out of sync there too.
It appears I'm having the same problem as this person who created a screencast on how to fix it: http://www.screencast.com/users/hatuckett/folders/Default/media/d781e0cb-8689-44 4e-9c49-7e8592e86052 I tried their solution and for whatever reason it doesn't work for me.
This isn't just happening with 1 video or project, it's happening with ALL of them. All of my video is PAL. I'm using PAL video and I've made certain in STP in the Project Preferences setting to change the videos frames per second to 23.98. Yet, the audio remains out of sync. Is there anything else I can do to insure that the audio file when imported and exported in and out of STP remains in sync with the original FCP video?
I am using Soundtrack Pro 3.0.1 and FCP 7.0.2. Thanks in advance.

There is a mismatch somewhere which is causing this sync problem.
Next thing to try - does your STP project sample rate match the sample rate of the audio in your FCP project?
In the STP project, on the projects tab, is "none" selected in the pullup/pulldown section, both audio and video?
In some cases, changing a frame rate can change the speed of the video, causing sync problems, so the earlier discussion about frame rates wasn't just semantics or terminology issues. I understand your frustration, but I was trying to help by ruling frame rate problems out.

  • Problem sending back to FCP

I am color correcting a feature film, and I broke it down into sections to correct it in Color. Everything transferred from FCP (6.0.5) to Color (1.0.4) with no problem. The first 3 sections rendered and went back into FCP (using the "send to Color" option) without a problem. I encountered a problem with Color when my hard drive ran out of space, but I have another drive and it has rendered with no problem. But now, it wont go back into FCP. I use the "send to" option and it opens FCP, imports to about 50%-53% and freezes. Any idea why this happens and what I can do to fix it?
    Footage is XDCAM EX 1080p

error message saying that it could not create a new sequence,
So does a COLOR-generated sequence exist for the fourth act somewhere? Search for anything that might be sitting around that could cause an ambiguity, or try sending an XML with a different name. It should try to create a whole new project.
Failing that, experience is suggesting there is a "poison pill" in the original FCP sequence. It might look totally innocent, but it is corrupting the Markup Language. COLOR is masking it because it doesn't need everything that FCP does. When COLOR drops it.... that's the end of the round trip, thank you; now, if we could get everyone to kindly use the nearest exit. b'bye (the way the stewards say it)...
