  • Having a Problem with WMA DRM and Muvo TX FM - Upd

No elapsed time problem with WMA DRM or other protected files from:
    Napster
    WalMart
    Audible.com.
Elapsed time problem with WMA DRM from:
    Netlibrary.com
This is an update on the problem that I described below:
    Windows Media Player
One problem I had was that Windows Media Player would not recognize my muvo players. It turned out that because I was using a USB hub for the players to connect WMP was not recognizing the players. When I used a direct line to the USB port on the computer, WMP has no problem recognizing the player.
    Digital License.
As a test, I bought a WMA song file from WalMart to see if its Digital Rights Management was compatible with Muvo. There was no problem with the correct elapsed time showing. I will also test a file from Napster and add its license details here.
Here is something else I noticed - the differences in
the license for the two types of WMA files:
The one from WalMart - which works fine with the
    elapsed time on the MuVo:
This file can be played an unlimited number of times
Collaborati've play for this file is not allowed
This file can be burned 0 more times<<<
This file can be synchronized an unlimited number of
    times
The license for this file can be backed up <<<
    For the one from netlibrary.com
This file can be played until 4/9/2005
Collaborati've play for this file is not allowed
    This file cannot be burned
This file can be synchronized 3 more times until
    4/9/2005
The license for this file cannot be backed up<<<<
I have been able to copy WMA with DRM audiobook files to my TX FM, but the elapsed time doesn't change with either play or fast forward. The file is from Netlibrary.com which supplies audiobooks to public libraries. The file plays, but the display stays all zeroes.
I have been sending information and getting replies and suggestions from both Netlibrary support and Creative technical support with no solution. I have the latest firmware and everything else. I have the problem on both Windows XP and Windows 2000 computers. I have downloaded several files, but none of them show elapsed time. I suspect it is something to do with the DRM, because I can play a preview file from Netlibrary - without DRM - with no problem. I also have no problem with other files copied over - from Audible, from CDs, etc.Message Edited by alex20850 on 03-30-2005 07:54 PMMessage Edited by alex20850 on 03-30-2005 08:4 PM

I'm primarily using my TX FM for netlibrary.com audiobooks and also get all zeros on the display.
I've been steadily complaining to netlibrary and my local library about problems/inconveniences, itcertainly is experiencing growing pains; we're the ones getting the pain, though!
I'll post here if I find a (legal) resolution to this.
What firmware version do you have? I have .2.04 and I see that .3.03 is available for download. I've read here that there are problems with .3 with volume limiting and I'm hesitant to change. I do notice that one of the listed fixes is:
Updates the elapsed time displayed during navigation within a long recorded track
so, maybe this is the answer?

  • Problems transferring WMA downloads onto Zen Xtra?Upgrading firmware/driver solves probl

Being somewhat knowledgeable about computers, but clueless when it came to MP3s, I was very frustrated when I couldn't get music I downloaded from WalMart.com and Buy.com to load onto my Zen Xtra Jukebox (with Creative Media Source and Windows Media Player). My brother-in-law, who is very knowledgeable about most anything technical, said it had to do with licensing. I went back and forth with Creative support, and nothing was working. I couldn't get anything to transfer with Windows Media Player, either. I just happened to be looking on a help page for Media Player where it mentioned that if you can't get MP to locate your device, it may be that you need to upgrade your firmware. I did that and also the driver, and it worked (though only through Media Source - for some reason Media Player gets hung up, but at least it does recognize my device!) Another thing I found out is that you need to play your downloaded music while you are still online in order for your computer to get all the licensing info that is needed. If a technically savvy person is reading this, forgive all of my "layman's" terms, but I was just so proud of myself for figuring out the problem on my own! I hope this is helpful to someone who has been going through what I did - I spent hours trying to figure this out!

I will try to help as much as possible. You need to go to creative.com, pick Support, then pick Downloads, then pick your continent, country, and language. Then pick MP3 players, and whatever product you have. Down below you put in file type, language, and operating system. On the next page, you will find the downloads for the driver and firmware. Follow all the instructions. The driver download is really quick, and the firmware download took about 5-20 minutes with dial-up internet. Make sure you follow the instructions for the firmware carefully because it will remove your present firmware, so I would think you would want to make sure you get the new firmware installed correctly. If you need any more help, let me know!

  • Muvo² FM problem playing .WMA fil

    Hi Creative Users,
I downloaded a few songs from Soundbuzz but when i tried to play it back on my player, it says protected files and not able to play back the file.
Does anyone have any idea how to get around this? Thanx in advance.
    Regards,
    Mar

    Hi Jason,
I am not very sure about that. The thing is this mp3 player belong to a colleague of mine, i just managed to troubleshoot for a while before i decided to post this question in this forum.
One thing i am sure of is she use the software that is included when she purchased the MuVo, so i presume that is MediaSource (correct me if i am wrong).

  • Cannot import music (appears to be mostly .wma)

    Hello,
I figured out by reading here that itunes couldn't import .flac files, so that's been sorted, but from what I can tell, I should have no problem importing .wma files.
But when I do:  file > add to library > and then select either the folder or a block of tunes within an album (i.e. foldeR) or even just one song, I get no response from itunes, it just fails to import or add to the lilbrary.
On some albums that have mp3 that I want to import, it also seemed to be doing this (i.e. not importing) but I didn't get an error message.  I found a work around where I'd put them in an unentitled playlist and move them to the Library from there.  But I can't do that with the .wma files.
I had some experience with early versions of itunes when it came out but haven't used it in years.  And now that I've got the Ipod, I'd like to figure it out.
    I'm running Itunes 10.5.3 and OS 10.6.8
    Thanks for insights and help,

  • Timeline - Cannot Move Tracks and Display Problem

I've created about a ten-minute timeline that I'd really prefer not to toss out because a lot of work went into creating parts of it and getting the timing right with the music, etc. When I first open the project in Premiere Elements, everything seems okay - my timeline plays with all transitions and I can scroll around in the timeline. However, I appear to have done something where whenever I click and drag to try to move a track, the timeline goes insane. I get a circle with a line through it for a cursor and a blank tooltip window, whether I try to drag the track horizontally or vertically. After that, while the timeline will still play, the timeline itself gets all wonky in its display, almost as if the video isn't refreshing on it. (It's kind of like the timeline has crashed.) I attached a screenshot of what it looks like. Whenever I move my cursor to the edge of the timeline, the timeline scrolls in that direction.
I'm running Premiere Elements 7 Educational Version on  a Core 2 Duo laptop with 3GB RAM, an Intel 965 graphics chip (latest Intel drivers are installed), and Vista Business 32-bit. The clips are from a standard DV cam (not HD), and there are some PNG format stills and MP3 sounds mixed in there as well. There are three active A/V tracks. I think that's all the relevant information, but ask me if you need more.
Can anyone tell me what I've done and/or how to fix this?

    Good morning every one!
The bad news: As expected the problem does still occur. The good news: I was able to track it down to one clip in the timeline.
To save others time, I will described what I have evaluated quite detailed in the following paragraphs...
As it seemed to me that deactivating the Windows indexing service made the usage of PrE more stable I thought that maybe file locks would cause the trouble. So I verified this by opening the project in PrE, writing and executing a small Java application that puts an exclusive file lock on one of the files from the project and tried to move the according clip in the timeline. It worked without any problems and the known symptoms did not occur. So we can put aside the file locks.
Afterwards I tried to reproduce the problem by playing around with the scene that caused problems last week. I tried by moving around the video clips and the problem did not occur. Then I remembered my statement I have made earlier, that the problems seemed to occur as I started to work with titles and music clips -- and bingo: I have three music clips in my "soundtrack" track and one of them seems to cause the whole trouble. After I have clicked on this specific music clip, the problem occurs and it is no longer possible to move anything in the timeline and the strange behaviour regarding the automatic scrolling when the cursor is at the left/right etch is activated.
It was easily reproducable: Restart PrE, open my project, move a video clip to verify that moving clips works, click on the specific music clip and the problem occurs. I have tried this several times and each time the problem occured. When I clicked on one of my other two music clips everything was fine -- same for the video clips I tried. So in my case it seems to be this single clip.
OK, what's specific regarding this clip: All my music files are placed on a share on my Windows home server (in contrast to the video footage which is located on the local HD). So I moved the "dangerous" music file to the local HD, changed the path to the file with a text editor directly in the PrE project file (which is a simple XML file) and started up PrE again. I verified that PrE takes the file from the local HD (server was down), but the problem did still occur. So it is not a network issue.
The next specific thing is, that this music file is the only file in my project which is a .wma-file -- the others are .mp3-files. So I did three things:
At first I downloaded the project file provided by SQFreak2 in this thread and checked whether he is also using .wma-files. The result: He does not use them.
As the second thing I again changed my project file in the text editor: I changed the path of the music clip to some other .mp3-file. Afterwards I opened up PrE with that project file, used the playback to verify that the other music file is referenced by the clip instead of the original wma-file and then tried to move the clip -- again the symptoms occured.
As the last step I created a new project, added the "problematic" wma-file, placed it on the "soundtrack" track and afterwards tried to move it. The result: No problems at all.
So it neither seems to be a generic problem with wma-files nor does it seem to be a file-specific problem at all.
Lets summarize the things from above: File locks do not cause any trouble. In my project a single audio clip seems to cause the problem. The problem seems to be caused by the clip and not the file referenced by the clip (no matter whether local or server based, wma or mp3, the problem occurs in every case).
What I have learned? Well, I am not sure. But in the meanwhile I am quite sure, that it hasn't to do anything with hardware and drivers, but that we are dealing with a bug in PrE that occurs in specific project cirumstances.
This morning I have got some additional ideas I would like to try to track the problem down (e.g. the problematic clip has a transition for a fade out in the end [when I did this I didn't knew, that a fade out could be easily achieved in the clip's properties] -- I will try to remove this one and look what will happen).
P.S.: In one of my earlier posts I stated the assumption that the problem occurs as soon as I move the mouse cursor over the vertical scroll bar of the timeline -- but this is definitely not the case.

  • Problem with MP3 audio books - truncating

My shuffle is truncating the end of each part (track?) of my MP3 audio books. It loses the last one or two sentences. Is there something I can do to fix this?
I'm using the OverDrive Media Console to borrow books from the library. I have no problem with WMA format books (they appear as audiobooks in the shuffle listing). The MP3 books show up as "Music".
I'm manually managing music, which is required to transfer audio from OverDrive to my shuffle.
    MC754LL/A iPod shuffle 2 GB
    Model A1373
    software version is 1.0.1

I use "My Media Mall" (http://www.mymediamall.net) to check out audio books from the library. They come in 2 formats - mp3 & WMA. When I check out a book it downloads to OverDrive Media Console. Then in OverDrive I transfer the book to my shuffle (through the manually mange the storage option). If I then start itunes, I can see what's been downloaded and what all the properties are. By default WMA books are loaded as audiobooks and there is an automatic play list created. The mp3 books are loaded, by default, into the music section.
Per your original suggestion, I converted the "music" attribute to an "audiobook" attribute, which automatically move the files and created a playlist for the book. It did not stop the truncation problem. I then converted the book back to music, and selected the "gapless album" feature. This has significantly reduced the amount of truncation so that it's gone from a couple of sentences to less than a full sentence.
If I listen to the book on my computer (windows) through itunes, there are no gaps, and no problem automatically finding the next part to play.
FYI - each audiobook is made of several parts (usually 8 - 11 for the books I listen to). Each part contains multiple chapters. Some books only break parts over a chapter break, others seem to divide the parts into semi-equal sizes. If in the shuffle I "skip to next track", it starts the next part. The voice-over feature on the shuffle announces each playlist (eg. book1, book2) and then each individual part (book1 part 01, book2 part 02, etc.). Usually when I start a book, I use the voice-over to find the playlist instead of locating a specific part. If I've been listening to the book via itunes, then I'll have to step through the playlist until the second portion where it lists the individual portions.

  • 5230 Nuron no longer supports WMA?

I recently did a firmware update on my 5230 nuron to v 20.2.098 and can no longer play WMA music.  Previously the phone had no problem playing wma, but now I can't play what I have installed, I get an "unable to acquire license" message.  I also can't transfer new wma files, as the program I use to transfer says the 5230 does not support wma playback.
Note that I'm not using OVI for the music transfer. That wouldn't install on my computer for whatever reason.  Instead I'm using a program called Overdrive Media Console, which is provided by the service I subscribe to for wma audiobooks.

try reinstalling the firmware. also dont forget to backup

  • How do I prevent mp3 songs from having their tail-ends cut off in the slideshow-creator?

I don't have this problem with wma files. When I play any of these mp3 music files in Windows Media Player, I get the whole thing. So I'm guessing Photoshop Elements 7 has trouble playing nicely with mp3. I have a favorite-movies slideshow with movie themes in the background. All the files are mp3. And each piece of music has the last 4 or 5 seconds cut off. Please help. Thanks.

If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copies of the dodgy tracks and try redownloading fresh copies. For instructions, see the following document:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Otherwise, I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the items that are not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the items, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" links next to the items.

  • 5310 Album Track Order

I've got a 5310 with the Comes With Music package. I've downloaded some albums, but they seem to be listed and playing in a random order (Shuffle is off), not the order of the album. Is there a way to fix this?

The problem appears to be with the order you put the songs onto the phone in. The only solution I've found is to remove all the songs from the album on the phone, then add them back on in the order that they are in the album.
This only appears to be a problem with WMAs (The file format used by the songs downloaded from Nokia Music Store).
I have tried the same thing with MP3s, adding them on to the phone out of order from the album, and they are played in the correct order.
This therefore leads me to conclude that the 5310 cannot read all the tags correctly from the WMA format files, which would allow it to sort the album tracks by the track number. Some other information missing when looking at a WMA file on the phone is Year and Genre information which can be viewed in MP3s on the phone. This means that the Genres list on the phone doesn't list anything for the WMAs. I am a little disappointed about the poor support for WMAs, especially when the tracks downloaded from the Nokia Music Store are in WMA format, surely the phone should properly suppor this format, especially when the 5310 is supplied with the Comes With Music package.
I have to say Nokia support have been excellent in the speed and response of their communications over e-mail. I have been discussing it with them for the past couple of weeks and they have forwarded my summary above to the relevant department. Hopefully something will be fixed in future. Although creating playlists is a solution (And something that was recommended by Nokia) in reality this would take an awful long time with 50+ albums on my phone and the speed of navigation through the songs, so the best way is to remove the songs and add them on again. Hope this helps.

  • Syncing with Overdrive audiobooks using using iTunes 11.2.0.115

I just downloaded iTunes 11.2.0.115 and can no longer sync audio books from Overdrive Media Console. They appear to be syncing but then they go away and I get the message:
    iTunes Sync
1 item could not be synced.
    See iTunes for more information.
When I look at the iPad files on the computer they appear to be there but are grayed out.
I did not have this problem until I installed the new version.
    Please help!

This appears to be more complicated than a glitch with recent versions of iTunes. I have contacted Overdrive and they acknowledge that there is a problem with wma format books. They are working on a workaround. The problem first appeared for me as I attempted to transfer a wma audiobook from my Windows PC to a brand new iPod Touch running iOS 7. The PC is running iTunes 11.2.2.3. I am receiving the "failed to sync" message on the iPod and parts of the book transferred successfully but most did not. But when I tried to transfer to an old Gen 3 ipod without changing any settings on the old iPod, iTunes or ODM client, all went flawlessly. This would seem to point a finger directly at iTunes and iOS 7.

I can't work out if my target machine (2008 R2 SP1) has a problem with WMA 3.0 or if the Release Template can't find the powershell script that I'm trying to call.  I figured that the relative path to the script could be wrong and have tried numerous
iterations to no effect.  The error clearly points to a problem with WMA right?
The target machine has .Net Framework 4.0, WMA Framework 3.0 and I can run Enter-PSSession to remote to it etc...
Before I trash and rebuild my target machine I hoping someone may have some insight to my problem?
    Thanks in Advance

    Daniel,
The PS Script is taken from an MSDN blog and is fairly standard.  I'm sure it will run fine when executed, but I've not run it as it requires environment variables ($applicationPath) that will be present in the Release Management session calling it.
    Here's the script :-
    configuration InstallModules
        param
            # Target nodes to apply the configuration
            [string[]]$NodeName = 'localhost',
            # Source Path for Modules
            [String]$SourcePath = "$applicationPath\Deploy\Modules",
            # Destination path for Modules
            [String]$DestinationPath = "$env:ProgramFiles\WindowsPowershell\Modules"
        Node $NodeName
            # Copy the Modules
            File ModuleContent
                Ensure          = "Present"
                SourcePath      = $SourcePath
                DestinationPath = $DestinationPath
                Recurse         = $true
                Type            = "Directory"

  • FCP Editing on a Mini vs an iMac?

Hi, folks - I think I know the answer to this one, but I wanted some feedback on just HOW huge the difference is between using FCP on a Mini versus using the latest iMac?
I'm brand new to video editing, and I'm also brand new to Mac. I made the "switch" about a month ago, but I think I made a mistake by skimping on the hardware and getting a 1.42ghz Mini with 512 RAM to test the waters.
I can certainly get FCP up and running on the Mini, but when I start getting down to business everything gets soooooooo slooooooow... I mean its not impossible, but it takes LOTS of patience (which I think I'm running out of).
So I've scraped a little more money together and decided to do this the right way - with the new G5 iMac (2.1ghz, 1gb RAM). I'm sure the performance diff will be big, but after getting burned for ignoring the Mini's specs, I don't want to make the same mistake twice.
Will there still be speed issues with a machine like the new iMac? Will 1gb RAM solve the problem or will things still drag a little? Is that just the nature of intense apps like FCP? Are dual-processors the only way to really use FCP comfortably (should I save for a PowerMac dual 2ghz instead)?
The hard part is not knowing what to compare any of this to. So on a scale of "1 to 10", if I give my FCP experience with the 1.42ghz Mini a "5", what can I anticipate giving my experience with a 2.1ghz iMac?

I am also struggling with running FCP on my PB G4.. 1.5G 1GIG RAM. I can't do a RT Extreme.. I need to render after each and every edit. Is my PowerBook simply not powerful to run FCP?
I am also a PC to Mac convert.. although I really can't shake off my PC association totally yet...Being a seasoned Sony Vegas (even pre-Sony/Sonic Foundary Days) I was so frustrated that I ended up doing my project back on Vegas. I get constant drop frames. And yes.. I did all the things that they tell me to do. except getting a faster processor. ...running on safe mode, changing to dynamic view. not resizing preview window etc, etc.
With all due respect. I think FCP needs to stramline their application so that if less resource hungry.
Here is a few Vegas/ FCP comarision.. although some may say it is not apples to apples comparision,
    1) Vegas. never had a drop frames...unless I really push it hard.. but even with a slight delay on the screen,, multi layered video will run to let you view the effects and changes that you made.
    2) With FCP... even slight change of fade in or opacity control...you can not see what you have done until you render it. depending on clip this takes 1 minute to 10 minutes.
    3) FCP Can't import native MP3 audio file as is... there is hick-up and noise, I needed to convert them to MOV audio file with Quick Time.
    4) Vegas - all types of audio file can be imported without any problem including WMA...(windows media)
    5) Vegas has basic audio controls built in like EQs. But in FCP everything is a Plug in... and that takes more resources
    6) I guess I am really not used to FCP yet... after 4 month of use .. trying to read manuals and struggling with lots of project. - I remember finishing a Vegas projec on the day I installed with text titles... fades and minor effects..
    7) Vegas can also import just about any type of video.. even if the sample rate or frame rate is different... They will let you edit on it.. and rending will make it al unform frame/bit rate.
    8) FCP does look beautiful on screen.
So here is also... none. Apples to Apples comparision...
    1) My PC is AMD 1.7 GIG (Desk top).... is this better/faster than G4 1.5??
    2) Both my PC and Mac has 1 GIG Ram...
    3) HDD on PB is 5400 and PC is 7200...
    4) Will a comparable Sony VIAOs laptop run smoothly running Vegas, because it is their own stuff.
I think this really is not PC Mac issue but more of an application issue,
I know that iMovie ...with its limited function, runs and edit video good.. with my G4..
I really love my PB.. don't let me go back to PC...

  • VERY LOW ZEN SLEEK BATTERY LI

for some reason the battery life for my zen sleek is about 4-6 hours. that is not even close to the 8hrs (even though i know it would normally be around 5hrs.)
i charged it all the way up when i first got it like i was supposed to. i've only had this for a week, and i am dissapointed.
i'm charging it up exactly how the insructions show, so i don't get it. i'm charging it up in the outlet, while the player is off. i get a battery symbol in the corner w/ a lightning symbol blinking across it. i know when it is done charging because the symbol is no longer in the corner.
am i charging it up wrong?(i don't think i am)
should i charge it up through the computer? (similar to the ipods)
do certain music formats us up more energy? (i have both WMAs and MP3 formats)
    anyone else have this problem?

WMA files will use a little more battery than MP3, but it should not make a big difference. Higher bitrates will use more battery life than low bitrates. Check out this knowledgebase page for some more detailed information. If you're still having a problem after going through that, I'd advise you speak to Customer Support.

  • New Zen Microphoto is skippi

I received a brand-new Zen microphoto for christmas, purchased from Amazon, and I'm having problems.
I have a PC with ample computing power (use it for pro audio applications) and a functioning USB connection. All songs I put on the player "skip". i.e. in random spots it sounds like? the song jumps forward slightly. It changes to different spots when I replay the same song. I reset the players, formatted it, updated the firmware, and the problem persists.
Anyone else have a similar problem or ideas on resolution? Thanks.

had problems with WMA as well....not sure how that should help if it is advertised to run wma, mp3 and wav files up to 320kb
    ps.
