Problem installing 10.8.5 from usb - looping...

My HD failed.  I installed new hardware.  Went from Hitachi (2T) to WD (4T) - temp sensor not compatible so fan loud, but that's ok...
Tried to restore from time machine backup, but wouldn't work - something about recovery partition.  Had already partitioned the new HD correctly (journaled, GUID).  Read that I might try installing OSX to the new HD from USB first, but that all I had to do was go through the 1st reboot.  Tried the stop the install at that point, but it wouldn't stop.  Finally was able to point at USB disk, but keeps trying to install and now saying installer had a problem...  Can't get the computer to start up from the USB drive even when I hold the option key down - just comes back saying there was a problem with the installation.  When I look at disk utility I see a disk2, Mac OS Base System... Can't remove it even when repartitioning the new HD again.  At a loss here on what the do now.
My ideas:
1. Create a new bootable USB?
2. Boot to Safe mode or somehow reset the HW somehow?  PVRAM?
Help!

Thanks for the response.  I'm not sure about the necessity of the first suggestion - I created a bootable USB drive from the 10.8 installer which I downloaded - it was in the Applications folder.  I used a file in SharedSupport - InstallESD.dmg...  Essentially I followed the DIY part of this link:
     http://www.cultofmac.com/180925/how-to-make-a-bootable-disk-or-usb-drive-of-os-x -mountain-lion/
Safe mode - I thought I might be able to boot into safe mode from the USB - guess not.
I don't get much of an error now.  All it says is:
There was a problem installing "Mac OS X".
     Try reinstalling.
Then there is a button for OK.  When you click OK - nothing happens.
Next to the apple (upper left) I see "OS X Installer".  Then there is a File, Edit, Utilities and Window menus.
Utilities contains firmware password utility..., disk utility..., terminal..., netowkr utility..., and restore system from backup...
When I run disk utility here I see:
     My new 4TB WDC and it's sub-entry - "Untitled 1".
When I look at Untitied 1 I see /Volumes/Untitled 1 mount point, Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
          4TB, used 1.11GB, 3 folders, 2 files
     SuperDrive (my dvd drive)
     disk2
This is an apple disk image with a capacity of 1.19GB with a Apple Partition Map scheme
Under disk2 is "Mac OS X Base System"
This has a mount point of /, is Max OS Extended, is 1.19GB in size, and has 10,753 folders
               and 35,620 files
     8.03GB SanDisk
Mac OS X Install ESD - this is obviously my bootable drive for installing Mac OS
I've tried to re-partition the 4TB hard drive but it doesn't seem to remove the disk2 recovery partition.  I have only re-partitioned the drive to a Mac OS Extended (Journaled), single partition...  Interestingly the 8.03GB SanDisk moved above the line next to the 4TB.  The disk2 drive is unchanged.
Perhaps I should reformat to a different method?  or change from GUID?  Seems like there is a separate "recovery partition" that I'm not able to clear or re-start the installation even though the drive is empty - or so I thought.
Interestingly, when I try to run Terminal... it doesn't respond.  I get "-bash-3.2# " as a cursor, but it is unresponsive.
When I try to select - "Restore system from backup" there is no response - it's as if it's completely ignored.
I also just tried holding the "C" key during restart - same thing - it jumps to a window which says it's installing OSX for a few seconds, then the same error I outlined above.

  • NEED HELP! - Installing Camera raw presets from USB Stick

NEED HELP! -installing Camera raw presets from USB Stick.
I am attempting to install the Camera Raw Presets.
It says to put them into User Name/Library/Application Support/Adobe/CameraRaw/Settings...
When I get to CameraRaw the ONLY folders in there are CameraProfiles & Lens Profiles.
I have searched everywhere looking for a CameraRaw-Settings folder and cannot find one.
I have latest version of CameraRaw installed and still no settings folder.
I even attempted to find it by looking in camera raw where it has saved the custom settings I made as presets and it shows that they are saved but will not show me where.
I am using CS5 specifically Photoshop v12.0.4 and Bridge. I have Lightroom 4. I have iMac OS  10.7.3
Do I need to reinstall Camera Raw and how do you do that?
Will I then lose my presets that I made in CameraRaw?
    Thanks for your help

Why is it no longer required to place the plug-in file in the specified directory on my hard drive?
The Camera Raw update process has grown to include lens profile and camera profile files which are easiest to install via a single installer process instead of updating several different directories manually.

  • Problems installing Illustrator and Indesign from CS3 suite

I am trying to install Illustrator and Indesign from CS3 suite.  Previously I had been running a trial version on my Mac, and now am trying to install the suite from the original install discs.  I have gone through the process of uninstalling all of the Adobe programs and then reinstalling.  When the install disc loads up and I get to the point where it lists the programs to install, in the top box Illustrator and Indesign are listed as already being installed and have no option to install them.  When I search my computer there are no Illustrator or Indesign applications.  I am able to reinstall the rest of the suite and it seems to work fine but can't seem to figure out what step I'm missing as far as reinstalling Illustrator and Indesign are concerned.

I haven't tried doing it on Vista but I would recommend looking for
Adobe clean up programs.  The problem I had was that the computer had
a trial version and then I tried to install the full version and it
wouldn't let me install illustrator because there were some random
illustrator files that conflicted with the installation process.  I
ran clean up program and it removed all adobe files.  Then I
reinstalled photoshop.  Before you start running clean up programs
make sure you back everything up.  Good luck

  • Problem Installing EP 6.0 From NW04 SR1

I already installed NW04, but I have a problem installing the EP in the phase "Start SAP J2EE Engine".
I know that may take a long time, but every 30 min the installation bring me a message of timeout, asking for retry, but allways happens the same problem.
I checked my instances, there r with green light. I also tried to Manually to Stop the service and start it again, but the problem is still there.
My server is Windows 2003 Standart edition and I installed the Sql 2005 (of the DVDs from SAP)
When I see the log there is no error.
So if some1 know what may be happening, pls reply me ASAP.
    Thx

    Hi,
The next time it timesout stop the installation and then manually stop and start the J2EE engine once. Once the engine is up then continue the installation and you should be able to finish.

  • Problem installing OSX 10.4 from Firewire DVD drive

Hi, I'd be very grateful if anyone can help... I've been trying to install OSX 10.4 from DVD loaded in an external Firewire Lacie DVD drive and haven't been successful yet. I have tried instructing startup from the DVD in System Preferences, holding Option on startup and selecting the DVD and also holding 't' on startup, which I was informed forced startup from an external Firewire device (this resulted in a large Firewire logo floating round the screen but after 10 minutes or so hadn't progressed into full startup). Having read some bits of info found on Apple support I can see there is some issue about installing OSX 10.4 from a DVD drive other than an internal Apple drive (although I can't see any explanation why). Could someone please let me know if there is another way of doing this? – I mainly want to get 10.4 installed because I want to get a new ipod which requires 10.4 rather than 10.3. Thanks very much, Sam

Some external DVD drives support startup. Some do not.
Holding down the T key at startup makes the Mac go into FireWire Target Disk Mode. It will not help you start up from the DVD drive.
If you have another Mac with FireWire and a DVD drive, you can use FireWire Target Disk Mode to mount your Mac's hard drive on the other Mac's desktop. Then, you can use that other Mac to startup from the DVD and run the installer, pointing to your Mac's hard drive for the installation.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58583
I don't know of any other way, if the external DVD drive does not support start up.

  • [Solved] Problem installing et-sdl-sound from AUR

    Hey All,
Ok now! I know that there are several threads on this forum related to this issue, but the question I have is slightly different and may even sound silly, but I just cannot figure it out.
I tried installing Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory from AUR. The sound didn't work out-of-the-box. Just as expected because the comments against the package on AUR had warned me so: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=2063
When I researched a little I found out that, to make sound work, I had to install et-sdl-sound package: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=9777
So I went ahead and did this:
    1. download the tarball from AUR
    2. tar -zxvf et-sdl-sound.tar.gz
    3. cd et-sdl-sound
    4. makepkg -s
Now when I do the "makepkg -s" it fails with the error: "ERROR: A failure occured in build()"
Going by the comments on the package in AUR, adding a line #include <unistd.h> to one of the .cpp file supposedly should fix this error. I did this.
But when I try to run the command makepkg -s it overwrites the file I just modified. Can someone please tell me how do I overcome this? How do I make makepkg use the .cpp file with the modification that I made?
    Thank you,
    Nachiket

Perhaps makepkg's man page will have an option to not extract source files; use whatever source already exists in the src/ directory

  • Screen resolution when PXE boot from WDS vs Install Windows 8.1 from USB

    Hi all
I own a Lenovo ThinkPad T430s, X230 Tablet, and now have my hands on a T440. All three machines have UEFI Secure Boot enabled properly, i.e. Windows boot screen shows Lenovo logo instead of Windows logo.
However, if I do a PXE boot (using Windows Deployment Services from Windows Server 2012, not R2) and boot to the same boot.wim provided on a Windows 8.1 ISO image, the boot screen resolution turns crap, and the WinPE environment runs in 640x480. Also, as opposed
to the Lenovo logo showing on the boot screen, the Windows logo shows up instead, indicating it's not doing a secure boot?
When booting from a USB stick however, using the same Windows 8.1 boot.wim (copied from ISO), the screen resolution in Windows Setup is detected correctly, and the Lenovo logo shows up.
This occurs on all three machines since MDT was upgraded to MDT 2013 or when I replaced Windows 8 boot.wim with Windows 8.1 boot.wim (as the Windows ADK 8 --> ADK 8.1).
Is there a fix for this? Do others have the same problem elsewhere?
    Many thanks

    Hi,
When boot UEFI-based computer from PXE you should take more into consideration.
For some computers, you might have to perform additional steps to make sure that Windows is installed in UEFI mode, and not in legacy BIOS-compatibility mode.
Some computers might support UEFI. However, they do not support a PXE-initiated boot when in UEFI mode.
How to Create a PXE-Initiated Windows 8 Deployment for UEFI-Based or BIOS-Based Computers in Configuration Manager
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj938037.aspx
    Especially for “Pre-Deployment Considerations”
If you still cannot find a way to make it boot from UEFI mode, you should contact with manufacture to confirm if PXE-initiated boot is supported.
    Hope this helps.

  • Unable to Install OS X Yosemite from USB Bootable Installer

I have created a Yosemite USB bootable installer using similar instructions (I changed source and target names as appropriate) as provided to create a Mavericks USB bootable installer - Creating a bootable OS X installer in OS X Mavericks
Target disk has been wiped clean, verified, partitioned, etc.
After booting from the USB bootable installer, and agreeing to the terms of the software license agreement and choosing the newly cleaned disk to have OS X installed on, installation starts and the following dialogue box appears ...
"This copy of the Install OS X Yosemite application can't be verified. It may have been corrupted or tampered with during downloading."
Thinking I may have corrupted something I re-downloaded Yosemite, walked through the whole process and received the same 'sad' results.
I also followed the same process with Mavericks -- same message with "Mavericks" instead of "Yosemite".
Equipment:  MacBook Pro -- Model A1286
Error logs (from the installer) are verbose but don't seem to have any unusual 'complaints'.
    Any thoughts?

You can try a few things. That message is likely due to a network problem.
Try signing in and downloading while ethernet connected.
    Try another network.
    Or you can try:
Removed files below located within /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/
      - com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
    - com.apple.network.identification.plist
    - com.apple.wifi.message-tracer.plist
    - NetworkInterfaces.plist
    - preferences.plist
Restart the computer, connect to your network and try downloading again.

  • Problem installing multi-disc software with USB Superdrive

I'm trying to install a large virtual instrument library for music production (Komplete 5). On a brand new Macbook Pro Retina, using the USB Superdrive for installation.  Typically with these installers, once it's finished with one disc, it asks you to insert the next DVD in the sequence to continue installation. The problem I've run into with the Superdrive is that it won't allow me to eject the disc, giving me an error message that the disc is "in use by the installer." This never occured on other Macs with an internal optical drive. I can't find any way to force eject the disc in order to move on with the installation.  I'm stuck until I can find a workaround.  Any suggestions?

The Disk Utility repair disk can't be run on the boot disk from the boot disk.  You must boot into another hard drive and run Disk Utility from it on your boot drive. Or you can try booting into the Recovery HD that Mt. Lion creates.  There you can run Disk Utility.  I'm not sure if you can repair disk with this method but it's worth a try. I've only used it to reinstall the system on my iMac. Apple - OS X Recovery restores your Mac with a few clicks.
Another possibility is to boot into Safe Mode, Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode.  During startup it will run some of the repair routines that disk utility does.  That may be sufficient.  Reboot and verify the disk again with DU.

  • Problem installing win7 in bootcamp via usb

Hi, I switched my early 2011 MBP's superdrive with a Corsair SSD a couple of months ago and managed to install windows 7 on it with a usb key and bootcamp using the VMWare method (A long and tricky process, but it worked). Everything was working well until some system files on my win7 drive were damaged (Impossible to launch the wlan service, frequent random freezes, etc.). I tried to repair the system install but wasn't able to do so (Impossible to repair on boot since I have no DVD drive and my system restore option was unabled for disk space reasons...). I then tried to reinstall (overwrite) windows 7 via bootcamp (I created a new win7 install usb stick, then tried to reinstall it at boot but it said something like "No installation disc found, please insert the win7 install dvd and press any key", in other words, windows boot utility wasn't able to see my usb stick).
Now, my situation is the following: I managed to boot back on OSX, I see my second SSD but it's now empty and formatted as "BOOTCAMP" (not a problem since I want to reinstall win7 completely).
Is there any way I could still make a fresh win7 install via USB on that SSD drive or is it easier if I just remove the second SSD from my MBP and install win7 on it by connecting it to my PC...?
    Thank you,
    Jean.

  • Macbook Pro 2007 - Do I need original disks to install OS or can I install 10.6 dmg from USB?

    Hi,
I recently bought a Macbook Pro 2007 and admittedly coming from Windows I am a relative novice with Macs. So, I made a purchase without realizing the important role the original OS disks play
I checked the OS and it says it is running OS X 10.5.8. I had a go at installing a different OS on a partition, but got an error message saying: "Filesystem verify or repair failed".
So, not being all that familiar with Macs, how do I go about installing a new OS? I am pretty clueless with that stuff on the Mac. Do I need to have the original OS disks in order to install a more recent OS? Or can I use the 10.6 dmg file that I have to install from a USB?
If I were to purchase a more recent OS (than the one that came originally with the Mac), would I be able to install that? In all cases I do not need to back up any of the existing data.
Any feedback would be much appreciated.
    Thank

If you want to erase the computer's hard drive to rid it of the previous owner's leavings (always a good idea with a used computer), and then install Snow Leopard, that should all go without a hitch. The present Leopard installation will be wiped along with everything else. But the iLife applications that were preinstalled on the machine at the factory and included on the discs that were originally shipped with it are not part of the OS and won't be included in the Snow Leopard installation. You'll need to purchase and reinstall those separately, and you can do so either by buying an iLife '11 installer DVD from an Apple Store, or by buying the individual iLife apps that you want from the Mac App Store. You'll have access to the App Store after applying the free OS updates to the final version of Snow Leopard, v. 10.6.8.
Once you can use the App Store, you'll also have the option of downloading the upgrade to OSX Lion, if your computer meets its system requirements.

  • How do i install os 10.7 from usb in recovery mode

The os that is on my old macbook is corrupted and I need to install a new version purchased from the apple website that delivers it via email.  Once I have transferred it to a storage device, how do I install it via usb or disk?

The only thing you get in the email is a redemption code that allows you to download Lion through your App Store account. Can you boot your Mac normally long enough to download Lion?
If so, once you have the full Lion installer, you can use any 8 GB flash drive to create a bootable installer with DiskMaker X.

    hi
by the way, i am following Part Number B14207-01. Oracle® Database Oracle Clusterware and Oracle Real
    Application Clusters Installation Guide
    10g Release 2 (10.2) for Microsoft Windows
i am upto section 4 Installing Oracle Clusterware on Windows-Based Systems.
this is where i did as stated, Using Oracle Universal Installer to Install Oracle Clusterware on Windows
then at step 9, When you click Finish, the OUI installs the OCFS and Oracle Clusterware software on the local node and
validates the installation again. The OUI will also create any required OCFS
file systems. After validating the installation, the OUI completes the Oracle
Clusterware software installation and configuration on the remote nodes.
this is where the configuration assistant fails, with the :
Output generated from configuration assistant "Virtual Private IP Configuration Assistant":
    Command = C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd /c call c:\oracle\product\10.2.0\crs/bin/vipca.bat
    -silent -nodelist "whdc-wms-srv-1,whdc-wms-srv-2" -nodevips
    "whdc-wms-srv-1/whdc-wms-srv-1-vip/255.255.255.0/public 180.120.1.126|public
    180.120.1.126,whdc-wms-srv-2/whdc-wms-srv-2-vip/255.255.255.0/public
    180.120.1.126|public 180.120.1.126"
Configuration assistant "Virtual Private IP Configuration Assistant" failed
, and then when you try to vipca.bat manually, you get :
    C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\crs\BIN>vipca
    Exception in thread "main"
    04-MAY-07 07:49:19 : CHANGES MADE VIA MetaLink

    hi xxxxxx
also noted that even after the 1st attempt to install clusterware the path is as follows :
    PATH=C:\WINDOWS\system32;C:\WINDOWS;C:\WINDOWS\System32\Wbem
not sure when there is no change to the path as a result of the oracle install, as there is a JRE and jlib folder under the oracle home : C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\crs\jlib

1st question is you have contradictory statements in your tar. 1) you say no vendor clusterware and the you say you have windows 2003 clusterware installed and configured.
    Why are you installing both?
Although I don;t think that is the problem here, I wonder why anyone would want to run 2 independent cluster software on same servers.
Now the output from the installer has whdc-wms-srv-2-vip output from cluvfy shows suitable interface as whdc-wms-srv-1 HEARTBEAT 10.10.10.11:10.10.10.10
    whdc-wms-srv-2 HEARTBEAT 10.10.10.11:10.10.10.11
whdc-wms-srv-2-vip what you entered to installer does not match what is available!

  • Does anyone have problems installing CS6 Master Suite from a DVD on a Mac?

I'm trying to install the CS6 Master Suite on a mac that has OS X Moutain Lion on it. I keep getting an error message that the software can't be verified and that it may be counterfeit. I purchased the DVD from Adobe directly and it appears to have the proper paper work that signifies that it is a legal copy. I have been in contact with tech support and they tried to help but it didn't work. Also, Adobe certified the serial number so there isn't anything wrong with it. Does anyone else have any suggestions?
    Thanks

Thanks for the response. The only problem that I have with downloading the trial is that A) I have DSL internet connection and it is extremely slow when downloading such a large file. That is why I opted to get the DVD. Because my optical drive kept spitting out the DVD, it has a few scratches on it. Will this create problems if this problem is corrected in the future? Should I request a new DVD? Also, B) there are features in the Master Suite that are not included with the trial download. Once I have most of the other programs downloaded and installed, how can I get the other features in the full version of the Master Suite that are not included in the trial?
