Problem Installing Classic support in Mac OS X v.10.2.3

Hello!
Sorry for my poor english.
I got a PowerBook G4 (15 inch)
And Mac OS X v. 10.2.3 installed on it.
Some program tells me that it needs Classic enabled to start.
Then I go to System Preferences to Classic
And there's a messsage
"There is no volume with a system folder that supports starting Clssic"
I were confused. I did reinstall all the system to split the hard drive in two partitions. But that doesn't help me.
After this. I search the internet for the solution.
According to this article
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.4/en/mh763.html
I should insert "Additional Software & Apple Hardware Test" disk, but i haven't got anything like this.
I've got:
Apple Hardware Test (PowerBook G4) Disk
and
PowerBook G4 15 inch Software install and Restore Disk
I deside to insert "Software install and Restore" disk. There is a package "Install Applications and Mac OS 9". I run it. It installs the Restore utility. After that, restore utility autorun. I tell that i wish to restore Mac OS 9, and after a while the programm tells me, that "there's an error type number 45 on copying".
After this, i'm decided to copy whole inserted disk to PowerBook as an .dmg file and try to install from it. Copy process done successeful, no read errors. But the installation process ask me "PLease insert the disk market like this" and picture of the part of the disk with two circles, exactly i have on the "Install Applications and Mac OS 9" Disk.
So, what should i do to enable that Classic Support on my Mac OS X v.10.2.3
And more of it. What is the message
"There is no volume with a system folder that supports starting Clssic"
and what is System Folder and is there any way to make it somehow?
Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.2.x)

Thanks a lot!
Last 10 days was my first deep intrusion into Mac OS intrails...
About disks i have, yes, it's original disks. There's no scratchs or dust on them. The copied fine in IBM PC, disk to disk, with no errors. How i tell before, there's a problem that restore application tells me that tehre's an "error type number 45 on copy". And i can't solve exactly this problem.
Also, I found another one solution in internet. Sorry, this solution is in russian, but i will try to traslate it later
http://www.mikeosx.com/faq/faq.html#Anchor-49575
This solution tells:
1 step:
Start install you Mac OS X from install disk
2 step
Split you hard drive into two partitions with Disk Utility application before you will procide to install, And don't forget to set "OS 9 Drives" (or something like this)
3 step
After installation was complete. Restart you'r Mac.
Insert disk marked "Repair" (or something like this) than go to "/Volumes/iBook Restore CD/.images"
"iBook Restore CD" you should change to whatever you disk is labeled.
In that folder (directory) you will notice file OS9General.dmg
Mount this disk image
4 step
Open your empty partition (not the one you installed Mac OS X)
Select all the files on mounted OS9General.dmg and copy them to empty partition.
Thank You "eww" ones more, for your suggestions. I hope that i will win this round "Me vs Mac"

  • Problem installing Classic Support on Tiger

I'm trying to install Classic support on my iBook. The install appears to complete. It says it did anyway.
When I double click on a classic app I get this error:
"The Operation could not be completed.
An unexpected error occurred (error code -1)."
There also seems to be no preference panel for Classic like there should be.
I'm thinking that the install actually did not complete but I can't figure out why.
I saw this in the install.log file when I tried installing it but I don't know if it is relevent:
"Package Authoring Error: Infinite loop between <choice> attributes and mixed state aborted."
I tried repairing permissions but it didn't appear to do anything.
    Anyone have any ideas?

I'm using the "Install Mac OS 9 System Support" symlink on the cd that came with the ibook.

  • Can't seem to re-install Classic support

I have been preparing an old PowerMac G4 to give to a friend.   I erased the hard-drive and did a clean install of Tiger, and updated it.   I'm now trying to re-install Classic support (so I can occasionally go to her house and run one of my OS9 apps, since I can't seem to find Chubby Bunny to get classic support on my new/old Intel machine :-(
I thought all that was necessary was to copy an OS9 System Folder onto the hard-drive.   (I actually made a small separate partition when I erased the hard-drive, although I doubt this was necessary).   I copied the System Folder from a "Mac OS9 Install" CD that was in the original set of discs that came when I bought an older G4 new.   I think the discs are probably OSX 10.1, but the OS9 disc seems to be 9.2
Anyhow, when I try to fire up Classic mode, I get a message somehting like "this system software can only run on the original media, not if it is copied to another drive".     I assume it's referring to the fact that I have copied the System Folder from the CD to my hard-drive.   And if I leave the OS9 CD in the drive and point Classic to it (which would be a poor long-term solution), it complains that it needs to update the Classic resources and the volume is un-writable.   Kind of a catch-22.
The weird thing is, I successfully did this once before, when I bought (used) this same G4.
    Thanks.
P.S.  Please let me know if I should put this in the OSX Tiger forum instead.

But when I went to do the OS9 install, it could only find the root partition where I have 10.4.11 installed.  It could not find the other partition of the my main HDD (where I'd hoped to put OS9), nor could it find the smaller HDD at all.   It refused to install it on the root partition anyhow, without doing a clean install and nuking OSX.
Evidently the problem was that I didn't check "install OS9 drivers" when I formatted the smaller HDD - even though it said "this will not affect Classic".   So I re-formatted it and checked that, and now it allowed me to install OS9.2 on it, and now Classic works fine.   It still refused to recognize the smaller partition of my main HDD, which is where I really wanted to install it.
    Thanks all.

  • Installing classic support

    Greetings all,
I would like to install classic support on my G5 but there were issues with my computer when I first recieved it (straight out of the box) that meant bringing it to the service provider and they had to replace the logic board. I works great now but os 9 can only be installed on the computer it came with. Does this mean classic support cannot be installed on my system?
I'd like to get an expert opinion before I go ahead and install.
By the way when I open "apple>about this mac" It does not show the product serial number. This is due to the changed logic board and is why I am skeptical that classic support won't work.

In the read me it says classic will only install on the computer the install disks came with. Why? What piece of hardware does it depend upon? So a replaced logic board should not matter?

  • Problems installing VadoCentral_MAC_APP_LA_1_2_3.zip on Mac

Problems installing VadoCentral_MAC_APP_LA__2_3.zip on Mac? Preamble: st gen Vado HD
macbook pro running OS X Snow leopard 0.6.2
I'm having a tough time installing the Vado Central SW on my Mac. I tried installing VadoCentral_MAC_APP_LA___0_df6, too. Similar results with both, I get a message "Installation failed."? This comes as no surprise since my mac never installs anything without prompting for an administrator login. So, I ignored the instructions to plug in the Vado after the installation was complete, and plugged it in and tried re-installing the software with the Vado as the installation destination.... which makes sense since it seems to run the Windows Vado Central from the Vado. VadoCentral_MAC_APP_LA__2_3.zip would not let me select any device except the mac hard dri've.
With VadoCentral_MAC_APP_LA___0_df6 I was able to install change the install location to the Vado HD device. It appears to have created an applications folder containing Vado Central.app. But, now when I plug in the Vado, it still automatically starts iPhoto. If I browse the Vado and double click the Vado Central.app, OS X first prompts, asking me if I want to install the application to the local computer. Click "No", then I get prompted that Vado Central rquires the flv2ITunes transcorder downloaded and installed. Click "Yes", then I'm prompted that a newer version of Vado Central is available, "Do you want to download...", click "Yes". It downloads and installs somewhere, but apparently not on the Vado, because it puts me through all of this every time. Whatever/whereever the software is being updated, it's not changing the Vado Cental.app on the Vado, based on the timestamp.
Can somebody provide the correct installation instructions? The minimal instructions on the Creative download page appear to be wrong. (I've looked at the other threads complaining about the mac installation, they don't seem to match my experience.)
    TIA

I have a Vado HD 2nd generation. I use it exclusi'vely on my MacBook.
The firmware version that my Vado came with is "v.250.
I found out the version on my unit by holding down the Delete button
    while turning the unit on.
Is it possible that your unit is not installing v.23 because your unit already has a later version?
    Hope this helps.

  • Problem Installing Air on 2 Macs

I'm having a problem installing Air on 2 macs.  The symptoms are the same - the installer launches and nothing else happens.
    Configuration 1:
Macbook Pro (Feb 2008); 2.5 GHz; MacOS 10.6.3
    Configuration 2:
    PowerMac G5; dual 2.5 GHz; MacOS 10.5.8
Both computers have Design Premium CS3 installed, in case that matters.
Here's the log off of the laptop:
    Performing runtime install
    UI SWF load is complete
    UI  initialized
    starting user confirmation
    Version of  this installer: 1.5.3.9130
    Installation type: new
And there it stays.  The installer is running and I can choose Quit from its menu.  It looks like it's waiting for user authentication, but the dialog never appears.  Since the symptoms on both are the same, I'm guessing that whatever the cause is something common to both computers.  I've had no problems installing Flash or any other program.  This looks to be specific to Air.
FWIW, I tried installing the beta of Air 2.0 hoping that might work.  No difference!  Here's that log (from Console):
4/8/10 2:55:22 PM Adobe  AIR Installer[1488] Performing  runtime install
4/8/10 2:55:22 PM Adobe AIR  Installer[1488] UI SWF load is complete
4/8/10 2:55:22 PM Adobe  AIR Installer[1488] UI  initialized
4/8/10 2:55:22 PM Adobe AIR  Installer[1488] starting user  confirmation
4/8/10 2:55:22 PM Adobe AIR Installer[1488] Version  of this installer: 2.0.0.11670
4/8/10 2:55:22 PM Adobe AIR  Installer[1488] Installation  type: new
The only difference is when I quit out the version 2 installer, a crash report is generated.  I can post that if anyone thinks it would help.
    Any suggestions?

  • Problem install PSE11 with a MAC OS disc on MACBook Air

problem install PSE11 with a MAC OS disc on MACBook Air   I've done the serial number, adobe ID, Option and now install "installation Progess" with a message Please close all of the following applications to continue:  Adobe Bridge CS4, Photoshop Elements (Adobe Photoshop elements)  I've checked to insure those are closed. Yes they are close - press "continue" but nothing happen.  HELP!

Look in Activity Monitor (Applications>Utilities) to see if there are any adobe processes still running somewhere in the background.
(Incidentally, just in case you're a new switcher--closing the window doesn't normally close the program on a mac, unlike windows. You must still quit the program itself.)

  • Problems Installing Software on a Mac that is both Win and Mac compatible

I am new to Mac. My kids have a bunch of games and some educational software on CD ROM. The software case's say the CDROM is compatible with both Windows and Mac. I have not had a problem installing them on my old PC but cant get either my iMac or Macbook to install the software.

Check the exact version requirements on the box. Make sure it says OS X. If it only supports OS 9, then it won't work on Intel Macs (e.g. your MacBook and 2006 iMacs).
Also, there are a few bizarrely-designed games that are OS X compatible, but the installer runs in OS 9. If that's the case, you'd need to install it on a PowerPC Mac, then copy the game folder onto your Intel Mac (using flash drive, CD, file sharing, etc)

  • Installing Classic on a Mac Mini

I am using the Install Disc 2 which came with my Mac Mini. It has an icon labeled "Install Mac OS 9 System Support." When I use it to try to install Classic (OS 9), it lists the package names, including Mac OS 9 (US English) with the Action listed as "Skip", although the package size is 325 MB. So that when it tries to install, it says there is nothing to install.
Is there another Install Disc 2 which I should have? Obviously, this has worked for other users, and I also need the Classic environment.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
Because Pre-OS X system software is not multi-lingual, it comes in many different language versions. The Classic support CD doesn't have any versions selected by default. Click the language version you want & it then show how big the install will be. Unchecked boxes tell the installer you don't want that item, so it says "skip."

  • Problems installing OSX Lion - new Mac Mini 2011

    Hi!
I'm having major problem with my brand new Mac Mini.
I wanted to upgrade it right away after reading so many succeful upgrading reports on various forums so I bought a 120GB Intel 320 SSD disk and 2x4 GB of Kingston 1333mhz ram. I swapped the drives right away and idiotically used to original drive in a case to create an external installation USB-drive (my 4GB USB drives didn't work).
I then created a bootable USB-disk with the external original drive and tried to install but only get the circle with slash after selecting the drive in the "options" menu. If I remove the USB-drive I get a flashing folder icon. If start holding down Command + S I get a message saying that the "version of OSX is not supported on this platform".
I also tried using the Recovery Assistant HD to create a bootable recovery tool but that gives the same results.
    In short:
I can't install OSX Lion on a brand new Mac Mini with upgraded HD and Ram. I don't have the original installation anymore.
    Am I out of luck?

Internet Recovery solved this problem. Option+Command+R.

  • Can't install Classic support in 10.4.11

Hi. I recently reformatted the HD on my iMac and re-installed 10.4.11. I now realize that I need to run an OS 9 app in Classic but I'm having trouble re-installing support for the Classic app. Following instructions elsewhere, I'm using the disc "Software Install and Restore (Includes Apple Hardware Test)" that came with my iMac. On this disc there is an installer for Classic support. However, when I run this app from the disc (without re-boot from disc), eventually I am prompted to insert the very disc that's already in the machine. Ejecting and re-inserting the disc doesn't do anything. And when I re-boot from the disc, the only choice I'm given is to re-install 10.2 using either the "Archive and Install" option or the "Erase" disc option. I don't like either of these options, particularly since it's not even clear that I'll be able to then install Classic after doing all that, not to mention having to re-install everything else again!
Any suggestions are how to get Classic support installed? Note that I cannot boot from an OS 9 disc on this model of iMac. Thanks, m

Hi, gracebug. Installing and using OS 9 for Classic mode does not require OS 9 drivers to be installed. They're only needed if you want to start the computer up in OS 9, which isn't possible with your Mac anyway.
See whether these articles help you get Classic support installed, and let us know how you make out:

  • Problem installing dw cs4 on mac osx 10.5.7

    Hi,
I am encountering a weird problem when trying to install dw cs4 on my macbook which runs osx 10.5.7. My user account has admin privilliges, yet when running the setup / installation file either from the disk or by downloading the trial - 2 dreamweaver icons appear in my dock, bounce up and down for a few seconds then disappear.
Are there any known issues installing dw cs4 on 10.5.7?
I have done an OS update to ensure im running the latest version.
I tried installing DW on another laptop running 10.4.11 which worked seamlessly.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give

Dragging Adobe files to the Trash on a Mac is the surest way to installation nightmare. Adobe products need to be properly uninstalled using the Adobe installer. You will need to clean up your system using the CS4 Clean script from http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cs4clean.html.

  • Problem installing CS4 onto new Mac OS X

    Can someone please help me?!
I have just tried to install my Photoshop CS4 Extended onto my brand spankin' new Mac computer and when I tried to open the application this message comes up:
"You can't open the application 'Adobe Photoshop SC4' because it is not supported on this architecture". What exactly does this mean?
I have the latest IMac so I don't see why this would be a problem.

    Hi Cherry!
Usually this happens, when Photoshop CS4 was not successfully installed.
    Reinstall it.
If the option to install Photoshop CS4 is not available, de-install it first. Either use the installer or manually remove the Adobe Photoshop CS4 folder.
    Cheers,

  • Problems Installing Windows 7 on Mac Mini

Hello everyone!  So I am attempting to instal Windows 7 on my Mac Mini and I am very confused.  Apples guide isn't as descreptive as I would hope and the options for alternative methods are mixed in with what is necessary and isn't worded well if you as me.  I have read other guides but hit a road block.   Currently I have a new Mac Mini with Mountain Lion 10.8.3, I have a retail copy of Windows 7 DVD with a new key, I have an Apple SuperDrive and I have a USB flash drive with the Bootcamp 5 support software.
I guess the first and important question is:  Is that all I need?  Apple's guide lists additonal/alternate things I will need that confused me.
Next:  I attempted it with what I had.  I only selected Install Windows 7, partioned my harddrive.  That went smoothly.  It then rebooted and started Windows installation.  I selected Custom install, I selected the boot camp partion, format the partion but then received an error message that read "Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition.  See the Setup log files for more information"  I read a few post regarding that stating to remove all external harddrives which I did.  All I have plugged in is the power cord, hdmi cable, and the superdrive and I am still getting the error.  Any help getting past this would be greatly appreciated.

Is your Windows 7 Disc a full edition or an upgrade edition of Win7?
