Problem installing CS4 -- Error 1603

Unable to install CS4. Error 1603: Fatal error during installation.
Running Windows 7 Pro 64bit (up to date), 4GB ram, plenty of HDD space, etc.
I’ve tried the following, but still get the same result: Error 1603; Installation failed, one or more components of Adobe Photoshop CS4 failed to install correctly. List of failed installed applications include Photoshop, Bridge, Device Central. I have a legal valid copy of CS4 (confirmed by Adobe).
Disable startup items and non-Microsoft services
Fix permissions on the Windows Color Profiles folder
Remove Google Desktop
Install the Adobe product into a single-byte folder –n/a
Clear contents of user and system temp folders
Verify that the Windows Installer Service is started
Install to a folder that is not encrypted –never saw this option
Ran the Adobe Cleaner Tool
Uninstalled CS4 and Lightroom and any related applications using CCCleaner
Disabled the firewall and virus software
Anyone have any suggestions or new ideas. I see a number of people have had this issue, though I’ve been unable to resolve it with the typical solutions others have suggested.  Sorry if I've left something out or posted this in the wrong place -- first time asking a question on a forum.  Thanks

i have exactly the same problem... but on win 8.1 (64 bit)
....not finding any fixes

  • Novell Client 2 upgrade fails to install NICI (error 1603)

I have configured the automatic update agent to specifically use Administrator Privileges according to the documentation: http://www.novell.com/documentation/...ient_admin.pdf
When I run the update from "Novell Services" in system tray as a normal user the update completes with errors: fails to install NICI (error 1603).
When I do the exact same thing as an admin, everything works fine.
I'm am trying to update Novell Client 2 SP 1 (IR7) to Novell Client 2 SP 2 (IR2) on all of our workstations.
And I am seeing the exact same error when trying to upgrade:
    Novell Client 2 SP 1 (IR7) to Novell Client 2 SP 2
    Novell Client 2 SP 1 (IR7) to Novell Client 2 SP 2 (IR1)
What is going on here, is the update agent broken or am I doing something wrong?
I don't want all of my users getting errors when their Novell Client gets updated.

This error is found in "C:\ProgramData\Novell\Client\Log\NICIInst64.l og": Error 2103.Could not resolve path for shell folder 26
I think this has something to do with the MSI-setup (NICI_wx64.msi) not being able to find certain keys in the registry for some reason
Recently we had problem with an MSI-based Java-installation running with admin-privileges where it would fail if "Folder Redirection" was enabled. We had set My Documents to point to H:\ which was mapped via Novell as the home folder.
the registry settings for that are found under: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders]. This however is NOT the problem here so the root cause for the error is still unclear to me.
Indeed, but remember we are troubleshooting the client here- it may be possible that there was some corruption in the first failed update. So thus removing any components and with a clean install of the Novell client, to try the update process again to ascertain were exactly the process may have failed by examining any logs and/or dumps.

  • CS4 error 1603

    It's really crazy,
I contact support center by phone and posting, several days ago, but they don't give any answer about how to install CS4 when you get error 1603.
I have reading in the KB from adobe but anything posted there works.
    Scenary:
    - Windows Vista Home Premiun 32 bits
Intel core 2 duo 2.20 Ghz, 3 gb Ram, 220 Gb HD with 80 gb free, NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
    Software installed
    - Ms VS 2005 .net
    - Borland Delphi 7
    - Adobe Flex Builder 3.0
    - Macromedia 8
    - Microsoft XNA
    - 3D Max Studio 2009
    - Blender
    - Ms Office 2007
    - Python, Ruby, Java, Tcltk, etc, etc, etc, etc.....
I used to have Dreamweaver CS3 for trying.
So  I applied the information from here http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/403/kb403911.html for CS4 and also to remove key from CS3.
But now my registry is a mix because of Cleaner scripts!!!.
Sorry folks, does any have a solution for me???
    thanks

  • Having problems installing CS4

The error code i get reads as follows....
    Suite Shared Configuration CS4
    Error:
Error 1603. Error 1310. Error writing to file:
    C:\Windows\installer\2c936.msi.      Verify that you have
    access to that directory.
Thats the error I get when trying to install even just photoshop from the CS4 design premium disks. My system is a Dell inspiron 1545 and I have had the program on it previously. But my HDD recently failed any detailed explaination would be greatly appreciated as my skills and vocabulary with software is very limited.

I finally got it to install! I'm not sure exactly how I did it I just followed the below directions and actually did it in the programfile folder tho I couldnt really get my permissions set to to full they were set to special. I checked the advanced and all permisions were set to full. Anyway not sure how I did it but this was the part of the the above document link that worked for me. Thanks again
You would need to perform the steps below on the folder reference in your error message. The ProgramData folder is used in this example.
In Windows Explorer, navigate to C:\.
         Right-click ProgramData and select Properties.
Important: If you are unable to see the ProgramData folder proceed to the section, "To show hidden files and folders" then continue with step 3.
In the ProgramData Properties window, select the Security tab (1). Click Advanced (2).
In the Advanced Security Properties For ProgramData window, select the Owner tab (1). Click Edit (2).
Select the Administrators group (1) under Change Owner To, select Replace Owner On Subcontainers And Objects (2), and click OK (3). If a Windows Security dialog appears, click Yes to continue.
Click OK to close the Advanced Security Properties for ProgramData window.
Click OK to close ProgramData Properties dialog box.
         Right-click ProgramData and select Properties.
In the ProgramData Properties window, select the Security tab. Click Advanced.
In the Advanced Security Properties For ProgramData window, select the Permissions tab (1). Click Edit (2).
Verify that the value of the Permissions column for SYSTEM and Administrators say Full Control. If the value does not indicate Full Control.
Deselect Include Inheritable Permissions From This Object's Parent and click Apply.
Note: You can encounter a few dialogs to confirm that action. Copy the permissions and accept any security warnings.
         Click Edit.
Select Full Control and click OK.
Select Replace All Existing Inheritable Permissions On All Decendents With Inheritable Permissions From This Object (1). Click OK (2).
Click OK to close the Advanced Security Properties for ProgramData window.
Click OK to close ProgramData Properties dialog box.
Install Adobe Creative Suite 4 or Point Product. If you enabled the option for showing hidden files and folders in step 2, proceed to the section, "To hide hidden files and folders."

  • Problems installing CS4 by flash/USB drive

I purchased the DVD-Roms late last year to install CS4. The programs successfully installed on my laptop, which recently died and is in the shop. But I never was able to install them on the desktop and would like to do so. When I put the DVDs into my DVD reader (which doesn't normally have problems reading things), it grinds away but cannot read the disks. My attempted solution was to copy the programs on a USB drive. In disc 1 I selected "autoplay" and most of the programs are installed but still not useable until I can get the second disc to also install.
Now I have a message, "Please insert Adobe CS4 Design Premium into drive E:\ to continue installation.
    - If I put the application disc 2 in the drive, it revs but does not actually read the disc.
    - On the USB folder sitting on my desktop for Application 2, my options are:
         -- extensions
         -- payloads
-- autorun (Which sounds good. But I click on it and it just opens a text editor that says [autorun] icon=cs4_designprem_disc.ico)
         -- cs4_designprem_disc (Opens to show an icon/graphic)
This is not a space issue because last time, I downloaded the "trial version" of CS4 from the website when it was available and then would manually enter my serial number. I wiped the hard drive. Now customer support says there are no links available online to CS4 since CS5 is soon available.
Any suggestions on how to get application disc 2 installed too, from the USB drive if possible?

Download on the iMac OS X Recovery Disk Assistant v1.0 and create a USB recovery disk.
Use that USB disk to boot your MBP retina.
Use the Terminal, that you find inside the recovery environment, to perform these commands
Verifiy that the main internal disk is labelled /dev/disk0
    diskutil list
this command will completely erase the internal disk. Please change /dev/disk0 if your is different, (it should not).
diskutil eraseDisk jhfs+ "Macintosh HD" GPT /dev/disk0
Verify that you just have 3 partition, no more Recovery HD partition
    diskutil list
    /dev/disk0
       #:                       TYPE NAME                    SIZE       IDENTIFIER
       0:      GUID_partition_scheme                        *500.1 GB   disk0
       1:                        EFI                         209.7 MB   disk0s1
       2:                  Apple_HFS Macintosh HD            499.2 GB   disk0s2
Quit Terminal and proceed with Reinstall Mac OS X
It'll take a lot of time, depending on the speed of your internet connection.

  • Problems installing CS4, Adobe help not helping, can't find solution in forums

When I try to install CS4 (on Windows Vista machine), I get the error "Uninstall Color Profiles Rollback Preventing the Installation".  Offered two solutions, I did both, but wouldn't allow me to cut/paste 10 files from the system32/spool/drivers/color folder.  I tried to go into the registry, it said, "some permissions could not be changed".  On the forums, it said some files could be linked to monitor or printers...I don't have a printer installed currently, but what am I supposed to do for a monitor?  I'm guessing they are not allowing me to move them because they are in use, but I don't know how to "unuse" them without not using the monitor.  I tried safe mode, didn't work...any suggestions?

this is a poorly formatted page (at least for me) but there is help offered here: http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/error-uninstallcolorprofilesrollback-e35c3ecb-5fd a-49e1.html

  • Problem Installing CS4 Design Premium: Student License

Just picked up my copy, registered my copy/got serial number.
At first, I was confused as to which disk to enter first, one says Application 2 (says disc 2 when it's in the Mac) and one that says content.
No installation menu/instructions pop up when either CD is in.
"Disc 2" has an icon that says Adobe CS4 Premium and on clicking it has two folders, extensions and payloads.
Am I missing a disk? Perhaps Application 1?
Also, I had the trial versions of some of the programs, but I got rid of them, so that shouldn't be a problem right?
My computer store is closed right now or I'd call them. I'm a bit stressed because this is a big investment and it doesn't seem to be working.

    Hi Anabel,
I just installed Design Standard and had the same question. I think you basically have to locate the installed CS4 programs on your hard drive (usually in the Apps folder). Basically, the "documentation" folder on the Content disc #2 is useless. If you expand the "goodies" folder, you'll see a folder of presets and one of plug-ins. To install them, you'll have to drag and drop the extra ones from the Content disc into the corresponding presets or plug-ins folders within the Photoshop program folder on your hard drive. Be careful--I think a few of the folders within can't just be dragged and dropped, since you'll overwrite a folder of the same name already installed with the original program.
Hope this makes sense. I think it's stupid that Adobe doesn't at least include a .pdf or .txt file explaining as such on the root level of disc #2, but I guess the figure it's common knowledge. Although, they do put the instructions of how to install for the disc #1, so why wouldn't they do the same thing? They do, however, include a .pdf (OptionalPluginsReadMe.pdf) of how to install those under the plug-ins folder on disc #2.

  • Presenter 7 Install. Error 1603. Unable to detect PowerPoint

I am using Windows XP and Office 2010. When attempting to install Adobe Presenter, I get:
    Adobe Presenter 7
    Error:
Error 1603. Error - Unable to detect Microsoft PowerPoint. You must have PowerPoint installed on this machine prior to running this installation program.
Office 2010 is installed. Any thoughts on how I can get Adobe to recognize it?
    Many thanks!
    AC

My situation with this is thus:
Originally had Win 7 with Office 2007 and Presnter 7 working fine. I installed Office 2010 on top of 2007 without replacing 2007 to see how well they co-existed on the same machine. Well all the add-ins come over to 2010 when you do that. So the first thing I do when I got a project involving Adobe Presenter is to fire up 2010 to see if it worked and it made the whole thing crash whenever I tried to do editing. Fortunately my work was still accessible using PowerPoint 2007 with the add-in there.
With the news that update 7.0.6 was released with support for 2010:
    http://www.connectusers.com/forums/cucbb/viewtopic.php?id=4162
I went to check for the update in the presenter help menu and updated it from PowerPoint 2010 and it works so far. So I go to a test machine that only has 2010 installed on it to try out how the installer works and I get the same error: " Unable to detect PowerPoint"
It would seem that the only thing that Adobe needs to do is fix the dang installer so that it knows that it can work with 2010. So the workaround if you have the ability is to find an older copy of PowerPoint (2003-2007) and install that temporarily alongside PPT 2010 so that the COM add-in will get registered on the system and be picked up by 2010.
Adobe are you listening? Could you update your installer program??

  • Iphone problem with itunes error 1603 on restore

I allowed my iphone battery to fully discharge and upon recharging got the error message with a large exclamation mark “please connect to itunes”. When I connected to itunes I was told that the phone was in recovery mode and needed to be reloaded. Itunes went out and downloaded the new firmware and began the install process after I approved the input screen that said it would wipe out all my data. 1/3 of the way through the process I received a message box that told me the process had failed to restore the iphone for an unknown error (number 1603).
After looking online and calling ATT as well as Apple the best solution I received was to send the iphone in for replacement (i am 5 hours from an apple store). After fiddling around I have managed to solve the problem on my own.
After trying everything else with no results, I pulled the SIM card out of the iphone and plugged the iphone into my computer. Itunes then reloaded the software and firmware successfully. I then put the SIM card back in and synced it up with itunes and it asked me to confirm the resync. Afterwards it just worked fine.
    My iphone works again!

"1- suddenly my iPhone 5 lost mobile company signal and word searching appears instead but no signal for the hole day so I changed the sim with other provider and since it gave me the same result I searched the web and the seems no solution other than restore.
I did restore and update to iOS 7.0.4 but at the restore takes at the last 1% in the last moment of restore it will take loooong time then gave me error 3. And now for more than a month the iPhone stuck with recovery logo. Almost I tried every trick in the book . Change USB cable, port, PC. PC with other OS . Even freezing the iPhone as I read here noooooo result the same happened again and again."
I have exactly the same problem with my iPhone 5s!

  • Problems installing CS4

Okay so, whenever I try and install (In Vista 64bit) CS4 I get the error:
Adobe Photoshop CS4 English Language Pack
    Error:
    Error 2.
Adobe Photoshop CS4 English Language Pack_x64
    Error:
    Error 2.
    LangPack (English) for DeviceCentral
    Error:
    Error 2.
Does anyone out there know what causes the above errors with CS4 installation? Does anyone know the solution, a Google search provides some clues but none that seem logically worked out.
The only real solution I could find was one telling me to do some things with the public folder, I tried that and the did a clean reinstall and no dice. Will be trying that again, any help would be amazing!!

I am having the same problem.  Windows XP Pro, 32bit, 4gb ram, dual 2.66 zeon.
I downloaded the CS4 packages from the tlp site and run the install.  45 minutes to install and no problems until it finishes and tells me there is a problem with the install and the programs will work but may be limited functionality .  open log and it shows error 2 language pack on every Adobe program.  I uninstall (45 minutes) and reboot and try again same error.  5 times. 1.5 hrs each round.  I tried the fix someone else posted which was a vista solution of the missing folder C:\users\Public\Documents  and this did not work.  I found a post saying to download the clean install script from adobe.  This is good because the install script download includes an instruction sheet which of course in in Acrobat which no longer works since the install screwed up all the adobe programs.  I call tech support India (of course) and she says lets start by uninstalling the program. and I ask her have you ever uninstalled a creative suite program?  Are you going to stay on the phone for 45 minutes while it uninstalls? -- it is uninstalling now but it is funny.  I'll post again when she calls back after the uninstall.  I expect to get nowhere fast.

Hi, I have been having problems with Internet Explorer 8 using Windows 7 so wanted to install Firefox but unable to as get a message saying error creating directory c:\programme files (x86)\mozilla firefox\searchplugins

Thank you guig2! Followed your bleepingcomputer.com link above and found the problem was my permissions on C:\Users\Bill\AppData\Local/Temp. It was not "Full Control" for my User or Administrator. Updated the two lines to permit full control for folder, subfolder and files. Ran perfect.
