Problem installing FCP 6, Boris Caligraphy titling problem

Bought FCP 6, at Apple store... can't install -- its grayed out--- and checkbox. HELP! Please. Using iMac OS X 10.6.8 amd had to dispose of academic version of FCP7 along with 'little snitch' before trying to install FCP 6. This was shipping new in box, but is ALSO an academic version. Why would it matter ?Going on 7-hours today alone. Mike, Rat, anyone, Bueller, sos...

You bought FCP6 (Studio 2, I assume) from Apple? It has been superceded for like 4 years...
The last time I installed FCS2 on an iMac, I had a problem with the prokit version.  Look here
ProKit 6.0.1 breaking Final Cut Studio - Digital Rebellion
for an explanation.
That may not be it, but it's a decent bet.
You need to mail me as I suggested, I could have been on this hours ago.

  • Problem Installing FCP Studio 2 on SL 10.6.2

    Hello All
when trying to install an original FCP Studio 2,
the installation gets stuck towards the end. (around 95% of the first general installation disk).
    this has happened 3 times.
After rebooting, the programs seems to be in the application folder.
but they are missing many files and meterial.
( because i did'nt get a chanse to go through the other Content disks... )
did anyone had a problem installing FCP Studio 2 on SL ?

Here's a way to work around the possiblitily of a damaged disk or an intermittent dvd reader.
Insert your FCS install disk, make a disk image of it (using Disk Utility) and leave the image on the Desktop. Eject the FCS install disk, and create a disk image for each of the FCS disks.
Now, with all the images on the desktop, double click on the install disk image and start the installation process. It should take less than an hour to install EVERYTHING.
Once the installation is complete, copy the disk images to a safe place. You'll have them available if you ever need to reinstall FCS.
    good luck,
    x

  • Installing FCP - REAL problems

Im having a real problem installing FCP. Everything was going alright, I installed the software and it said that it was successful, but now when I open FCP this message comes up:
    Confirguration Error
This software requires certain hardware or software which is missing.
    • 512MB of RAM.
    and it closes again.
What can I do to finally be able to use final cut pro!?
    Thanks in advance
    Magdalena

How much RAM does your Powerbook have? Keep in mind that OSX needs 256mb of RAM at the very least just to operate, and your graphics cards probably shares some of the system, RAM as well. Then there's all those little background processes running that eat up a little bit of RAM here and there (you can check in Activity Monitor to see how much).
FCP requires a bare minimum of 512mb all by itself, with at least 1gb recommended, 2gb preferred. So if you only have 512mb of RAM installed, FCP won't have enough to open.

  • HUGE problem installing FCP 7 -- Please HELP

I know that the people in this forum are ridiculously smart -- I REALLY need some help!
For the past six days I have been trying to install FCP 7.  I had a version of Final Cut Studio 2 and I wanted to upgrade to FCP 3.  So I put the install discs in and it automatically made me skip over installing FCP 7.  I am attaching a screen shot below.  You'll notice that for FCP is says "SKIP" under actions.  I thought that this was due to an issue with Installer reading my old serial from FCS 2, because I never had to enter the serial number for FCS 3.
OK, so I downloaded FCS Remover and got rid of Final Cut Studio.  I put in my install disc and I did have to enter the serial number.  It went through fine BUT I got that SAME EXACT screen with FCP amid others being told to "skip."  I do not have the option to change this.
Is there anyone else out there that can help me with this?

Both Final Cut and Compressor are unable to be checked....Most of my projects were saved in FCP 6.  My partner tried to give me a project in FCP which is why I tried to upgrade.  Right now I can't even access FCP 6.  I might try to wipe my hard drive clean and reboot from a Time Machine backup that had FCS 2.
I might try to bring this to the Apple Store.  My Macbook Pro is under warranty, though I'm not sure if they would know anything about Pro Apps
Wow, this whole ordeal has really been a nightmare.

  • Boris 3D Titler Went Walkies?

My Boris 3D titler (the one you get standard from the bottom right hand pull-down in the video viewer) is missing! Anyone know how to get it back? Ive havent done any reinstall or anything like that!
    thanks in advance..

I'm having the same problem! I havent been able to fix it either! I dont have the boris either. I was having a render problem. Apple SOLD me a replacement FCP disc, since I couldnt find mine. but of course, their replacement disc didnt work, so I sent everything to the trash, and pulled it out, and so my other problem was fixed, but now I was happy! I can finally RENDER and use FCP
but now I have the Boris problem!
dang, but I see now really is that I have the Text, title bundles, and etc. but I just really need to find where to put them, hopefully that should fix the problem I would hope!
but i'm having the same problem

  • Installing FCP (V2/V3 on iMac G5)--Urgent!

Okay, I have some editing to accomplish (putting a reel together) and I'm in the process of upgrading everything... I would like to use FCP on a loaner G5 iMac while I wait for my QUAD to be delivered. I have FC Studio Cross-grade on the way that will solve all of the world's problems--right? Yet, I don't have any current FCP or FC Studio components.
    I own FCP V2 and the V3 upgrade... I was using this painfully on my G3 Pismo years ago... I also have a B & W G3...
Any ideas? I see my options as follows:
    a) Try to install FCP 3 on the G5--probably will not work--bad idea.
    b) Use iMovie... not powerful enough--bad idea.
    c) Get a temp. license from Apple for FCP 5??? Is that possible?
    d) Install the old $h#t on the old G3...
    e) Something you suggest?
    Well, any thoughts?
    Thanks,
    Robert

    a) Won't work. The upgrade to FCP 3 require that FCP 2 be installed, and since you don't have OS 9 running...you can't do this. Even in Classic mode I hear that installing FCP 2 doesn't work.
    b) If it isn't powerful enough for you, it isn't. What kind of reel is this anyway? This should be fine for straight cuts and dissolves.
    c) Not possible.
    d) This is your best bet. In fact, this is your ONLY bet in my book. And FCP 3 works fine on the older machine.

  • Installing FCP using terminal

friends: i want to try and install final cut pro HD 4.5 on my macbook air 11 inch running 10.7.2 (if possible). this same program is running great on my other macbook air 11 inch using a slightly earlier OS X (Lion?). 10.7.2 as you know does not support 10.7.2, but i have heard that sometimes it is just the installer that needs the powerpc so i am trying to install it via terminal. the problem is, i do not know how to configure my string properly. when i drop the .app into the terminal window i get this location:
    /Users/mycomputername/Desktop/Final\ Cut\ Pro\ HD.app
and i was using variations of this:
    sudo installer -package /Users/mycomputername/Desktop/Final\ Cut\ Pro\ HD.app -target /
try not to laugh, i am not a coder, just trying to get my computer to run this program that i love. the new FCP is too expensive and i don't even like it. if you can assist me in creating the proper string i would be grateful. i know that someone was able to install final cut studio using this method.
thanks so much for your help!

I do not use Final Cut Pro, but I play one on Television!
Here is a quote from Wikipedia:
In April 2004, version 4.5 of Final Cut Pro was introduced and branded by Apple as "Final Cut Pro HD" due to its native support for Panasonic's tape-based DVCPRO HDformat for compressed 720p and 1080i HD over FireWire. (The software had been capable of uncompressed HD editing since version 3.0, but at the time had required expensive video cards and high speed storage.)
Any program written in 2004 would have been a PowerPC application.  After Apple migrated all of its future Macs to the Intel platform in 2006, it included in OS X Tiger (and later Leopard, and optionally in Snow Leopard) emulation software that would allow most PowerPC apps to continue to run in Intel.  This sofware was based upon technology that Apple licensed from a 3rd party and which Apple called Rosetta.
Apple's license to include Rosetta in newer versions of OS X expired with Lion and now Mt. Lion.
Hence no matter how well you use Terminal, or even Pacifist to install FCP 4.5, it just will NEVER run under Lion on your Mac.
If your MacBook Air 11" is old enough (2010, MacBookAir3,1) to boot and run Snow Leopard, you can either partition your hard drive or add an external hard drive and install Snow Leopard into it.  You can then "dual-boot" into Snow Leopard when you want to run FCP 4.5 or into Lion when you need iCloud or otherwise.
Alternatively you can install Snow Leopard Server into Parallels 8 on any 11" MacBook Air and have FCP 4.5 running concurrently with Lion, such as here where the PowerPC app Appleworks is running on a Lion Mac:
Apple is now selling Snow Leopard Server for $19.99 + sales tax & shipping costs at 1.800.MYAPPLE (1.800.692.7753) - Apple Part Number: MC588Z/A (telephone orders only).
Parallels offers a 14 day free trial download from its website.  It sells retail for $79 but can be found for a discount on the internet.
NOTE: You are confusing your version with Final Cut Express 3.5 and Final Cut Studio 2, both of which will run in Lion, but whose installers have problems in Lion and Mt. Lion due to a "bug" in the installer program.  For those versions, as pointed out in Jeremy Johnstone's blog, using Terminal (or alternatively, using Pacifist) to install will achieve success in using those versions in Lion.

  • I'm trying to install FCP, but FCP option dimmed

    Hello,
I'm attempting to install FCP on Macbook Pro. I put the FCP install disk in computer. For some reason when it gets to what is going to be installed the Final Cut Pro option is dimmed so that I can't check it as an option to load. I have attempted to clear the computer of all FCP studio suite files and re-install but nothing has worked. I don't have logic on the computer.
    Can anyone help?

Full install. It's not checked despite it being dimmed. Yes it is a MBP 4 gig 2.66 mhz. I've owned it less than a month. I have installed FCP several times on several computers over the years. This is my 1st install with this program on this computer and I'm having all these problems. Sorry for the rant...

  • How to format my G5 and install FCP?? Plz help URGENT

    Hi Everyone,
Since I installed FCP suite my compressor never worked, So I decided to format my mac and reinstall Tiger and FCP.
Can some one give me a quick steps on how to format my mac. Never done it before..
    Thanx so Much

I know how it sounds but blieve me I tried everything. I gathered the process of reinstalling Tiger is not as bad. Just insert the DVD and follow instruction.< </div>
Umm, well, the Scorched Earth Method is drastic and cannot be undone. But,m yeah, it's easy.
By the way is there a prefrence on how to install FCP or just put cd's and follow wizard. eg. Is there a sqequence on what to install first.< </div>
Put them in and follow the instrucitons.
Thnx alot for ur reply David.< </div>
No problem, we just hope you don't get BAD advice here.
I hope compressor works after this < </div>
There is no reason at all to believe it will work after reinitializing your system. None at all. There's hop, but no rationality.

  • Install FCP HD on new Quad G5

I just recieved my new Quad G5 and am having problems installing FCP4 HD.
Originally I started with FCP1.25 on my G4 then bought all the upgrades. Now I can't install FCP 1.25 to begin the upgrade process again on the new machine. Installing the OS9 support module on the G5 lets me install FCP 1.2.5 but not start it to enter the original serial number.
After installing FCP 4 and trying To open the app I get a message that hardware or software is missing (I am presumming they mean the original FCP 1.2.5 and its serial number)
    Any sugesstions?

    You're right, it's not funny it's silly.
If I'd just spent 4 or 5 grand on a new computer and my 1 year old version of FCP 4.5 wouldn't install, I'd be a little upset. Especially since it's a fix that Apple won't tell you about or provide themselves. Instead, you have to inquire here to get an answer from people who want to help, but who aren't even sure they should answer in case it violates the Terms of Use.
When I bought my 1st generation dual G5 I didn't even think to ask if FCP 4.5 would run on it (negligence on my part, perhaps) but I'd bet the farm that the majority of Apple Store employees would not have known to tell me if it wouldn't.
Sorry, but it's the silliest thing I've heard since Apple told me that if I wanted to install FCP 3 on my PB, I couldn't use the upgrade disks I'd purchased, I'd have to buy the full OS X version. Why? To circumvent the fact that the PB was not built to boot in OS9 which was required to install the original FCP software.

  • Installed FCP has white screen in viewer

I have Final Cut Pro 6.0.6 in my newer model macbook pro (Version 10.9, 2.2 GHZ Intel Core i7, 8 GB ram).  This computer went down, so to finish up a few projects while it was in the shop, I installed my Final Cut Pro 6.0.6 using the original discs into my imac (Version 10.9.1, 2.8 GHZ Intel, 4 GB RAM) and another Macbook pro (10.6.8, 2.3 GHz Intel Core 5, 4 GB ram).  In both of these computers, FCP was properly installed, but it would not play video that I shot with my JVC HM-GY100 camera.   After I capture the video, footage appears as just a white page in the viewer.  With my normal Macbook Pro, the video is captured and it works with no problems, it can be seen in the viewer and does not have to be rendered.  The footage has the following information.  1920 x 1080, mpeg-2 Video, Linear PCM, Time Code, Color Profile: HD (1-1-1).  I have checked the viewer and canvas and they both display RGB.  I got my MacBook Pro back from the shop.  The same footage that would not play in the newly installed FCP on the other computers, loaded up perfectly in my MacBook Pro. Would love to use the Final Cut Pro on a desktop computer for a future backup.  Does anyone have any ideas as to what I need to do to get FCP working in the imac?  Thanks for any help.

You are probably viewing the alpha channel only.
At the top of the viewer are three buttons. The rightmost one controls the view settings. Select RGB and life should be good again.
    cheers,

  • Possible that BORIS 3D title tool has EXPIRED?

    Most peculiar....
I had been using the Boris 3D title tool in my fcp 5.0 a few weeks ago. Love it.
Now that I'm back on the project and needing to use it again, it doesn't appear under my effects tab. (neither the effects drag down menu or the effects tab within my project window)
Is it possible it was only a trial version? Why would it not appear as an option?
    Any ideas would be welcome.
As always, thanks to this forum.
    Mark

Thanks for the help -- but my Boris doesn't seem to be anywhere.
I'm able to open the previous 3D titles, but I can't find the Boris tab anywhere.
Is there a way to save the existing Boris 3D title into my effect favorites so that I don't have to keep going back to the old sequence to initiate a new title?
    thx.

  • Erros Installing FCP 5

Maybe someone can help me, I decided to be a good guy and purchase FCP Hd legally. I am doing a clean install did the disk warrior thing, repaired permissions. then started to install fcp I get halfway through and get "There were errors installing software" I had to do this several times before FCP finally made it in and I still have not been able to install Live Type. The support site is no friggin' help at all, there seems to be no email address to ask for any type of response. can anyone tell me why the software does this. I previously had FCP Studio from another party and it loaded up fine. are there any issues with the actual disks themselves.

Hang on my good guy friend - what v of fcp are you trying to install ?
Your post says fcp hd but your title says fcp 5 - sooo .... ?

  • How many times can you install FCP?

Hello everyone, new to the forums here. I've searched throught he forums but couldnt find an answer to my question.
I'm in the middle of installing Final Cut Studio 2 (waiting to put in the next disc) when my buddy came over and mentioned that you could only install FCP one time and never install it again on any other computer. This worries me because in January I was going to get a new Mac Pro and un-install FC from my Macbook Pro so I could use it on the new computer. Is this possible? Or once I install this on my laptop is it permanent?
Thanks in advance for the help

Ok so you can install it on as many machines as you like but can only use (or have one activated through registering) one at a time. I know this is a touchy subject with piracy and all, but I thought it would just be rediculous if I installed this on my laptop, and 6 months down the line wanted to install it on another computer that I own.

  • Can't install FCP 5

I just purchased a new MacBook Pro and was getting ready to install FCP 5 (and later upgrade to 6),
but when I click on the installation icon I get this message:
" You can't ope the application Final Cut Studio.mpkg because the PowerPC applications are no longer supported. "
I was not expecting this since I had FCP installed in my old computer which is also an intel based MacBook Pro (2007).
Why am I getting this message? My system requirements are good.
    Any way around this?
    Thanks!!

You don't need to install FCP 5 before FCP 6. Everything you need is on the FCS2 install disc. All you need is the serial number from FCP 5.
That said, you still can't install it on Lion unless you install Rosetta from a Mac OS X 6 Snow Leo disc first.
