Problem installing iLife '08

I had a 10.5 (latest) Mac with iMovie from iLife '08.
THIS MAY BE IRRELEVANT, BUT FOR THE SAKE OF COMPLETION:
I ran Migration Assistant to move a number of user accounts, and also brought over applications. Prior to doing so, I placed all the apps on a new machine in a subfolder. This way all the old apps were brought over (without using the automated 'keep newer version' feature); I later deleted all the apps that were older, or the same version.
The Mac apparently has a free version of iMovie '08. 714 (585). This version won't open projects made in the iLife '08 version. I tried to install iLife '08 (as an administrator), but iMovie, etc., were all greyed-out and I couldn't install. Do I need to uninstall the free iMovie (etc.) first? Or is the problem something else? thanks
Bob

Might have something to do with your hardware. Tell us about that.

  • Problem installing iLife '04 with g4 OS x 10.2.8.

I finally got a DVD drive for my G4 quicksilver.
    I am running OS x 10.2.8.
I am trying to install ilife '04 from DVD to get garage band, I had previously installed itunes and imovie from the cdr.
Now when I try to install ilife from the DVD I get the message " This installation cannot proceed because one of the following applications is running ....garageband, itunes, iphoto, imovie, iDVD "
I am not running any of these at the time of install, and cannot find a way of "quitting" any of these programs ... what can I do?
Can I uninstall these, how ?

    JAZZCATT, welcome to Apple Discussions.
Do a Shutdown & then a Startup. That should ensure that no apps are running. Then try the install.

  • Problems installing ilife 4.0 disks on emac

    Hello-
I tried looking at previous posts to find a solution to my problem, but couldn't locate anything - so I apologize if this issue has already been addressed.
I never upgraded my iLife apps in my emac, though I have automatically downloaded system upgrades - and now want to upgrade iPhoto, etc. I have two sets of discs for this (I have an Ibook too), and when I try to install, I get a message that one of the ilife apps is running when none are running. So I can't complete the installation.
I appreciate any help - tia
    Mike

    Hello,
I am new to Apple Discussions; I am also having a problem with my iLife installation. I just bought iLife '06, but when I go to install it on my G4, I get the initial iLife window ok, but with only a plain blue folder showing up in it instead of the installer icon. There are no other installer icons inside the folder(s) either, just more blue folders. I can't even start the installation because of this. I have all the stated system requirements as listed, even more, so why isn't this working? I have 10.3.9, 512 mb ram, Quicktime 7.1.3, DVD drive, lots of GB disk space, etc.
I have a newer version of iTunes already installed, could this affect it? I tried quitting the iTunes helper, fixing permissions, removing receipts, making a new disk image, etc., all suggestions that I heard or came across, and nothing has worked. I even talked to an Apple tech guy for about half an hour with no luck. I've never had a problem with other installations or playing other DVDs before either. Do I need to upgrade to Tiger, which I want to anyway?
I couldn't start a new topic, as for some reason, there is no 'post new topic' link appearing for me either at the top of the Apple Discussions pages, even though I log in ok - ? Another bug? I'm using Safari, of course.
    Thanks,
    Paul

  • Problems installing updates to all of ilife 08

I am having major problems installing updates to all of ilife 08. The updater recognises & downoads the updates, but after completeing the download reports an 'unexpected error'. This has been happening for weeks?

    Saundg:
Can you give us some more info on your setup: system version, Quicktime version, iPhoto version currently running and the other iApps? Have you run Disk Utility to repair disk permissions and to verify the disk (and make any fixes that are reported needing fixed)?
You might try downloading the individual updater files from Apple's Downloads page and run locally.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Problems with iPhoto libraries since installing iLife

I have got very confused as to what has happened since I installed iLife and upgraded my photo library. I have read a few posts here and theer so apologies if this is answered elsewhere. I seem to be stuck in a loop with accessing my photos, it tellms me to upgrade the library - which I did - but it still isn't working. I can see all my pics and folders via Adobe Bridge, so they are there... but even when I try to look at the library (actually I have two for some reason) via Time Machine, it says the same thing. Can anyone help?  Thank you.

Try this:  launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and check to see if the same problem persists. If you can create and run a new library then the problem lies with your existing library.
If that's the case make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • I just installed iLife on my new Imac version 10.8.2 and now I can't open my iPhoto app.  It says that I Photo is damaged or incomplete.  What do I do to restore my iPhoto and pictures!

I just installed iLife on my new iMac 10.8.2 version and now I can't open my iPhoto app.  It says it is damaged or incomplete.  What can I do to get it back along with all of my picutures?  I was told by an Apple employee at my one to one training that it was OK to install iLife to get the iDVD that I wanted. Help!

I have installed iLife a few times and because of photostream, the version on the disc must be updated.  Software update usually takes care of it.  It sounds like you installed an old version over a new version.  I've not tried that.
You have a late 2012 machine, if you open the Mac app store from the dock, you should be able to go to the purchased tab and download/install the right version of iphoto.  Honestly, you should not have used that disc on this new of mac or at least only installed iDVD & iWeb but not garageband, iphoto, and iMovie.
If the Mac App Store shows iphoto as installed already, drag the app from your applications folder to the trash and reinstall it again from the Mac App Store.  That is the version you need.  You may find garageband and imovie have similar problems.
    good luck.
PS.  your photos are in your photo folder in your home folder.  don't touch those, I'm talking about the app "iphoto" in the applications folder.

  • Unable to access iPhoto after installing iLife 06

I installed iLife 06. After doing so, my iPhoto folder cannot be accessed. I get a message saying "There is a problem accessing 1 or more files in iPhoto library folder. In the Finder, select iPhoto library folder. Choose File >Get Info. Make sure you have read and write permissions for the folder and then apply this setting to all enclosed items." I have done this, but I still can't get it to open. Any ideas?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. That has happened to a number of users for some unknown reason. Try the following: download and run BatChmod on the iPhoto Library folder with the settings shown here, substituting your account name for mine. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field. Good luck.

  • I am using a new imac with osx lion 10.7.5 and have bought a copy of Apple iLife 11 on dvd a so that I can install iWeb and idvd, when I click on install iLife I get a message saying "iLife.kpg was signed with an invalid certificate

I am using a new imac with osx lion 10.7.5 and have just bought Apple iLife 11 on dvd so that I can install iWeb and iDVD, as macs no longer ship with these apps. When I click on install iLife I get a message saying "iLife.kpg was signed with an invalid certificate.
Next problem is that when moving through the installer and get to custom install, as I only want to install iDVD and iWeb, I am presented with the option to install iDVD, Sounds & Jingles and iWeb, but not sure what is going on with the other 3 options iLife Support etc, they seem to be greyed out but still look like they may install over the top of the newer versions already on my imac. Is it ok for me to just go ahead and hit install? Or do I have a problem?

Yep, just install iDVD (plus sounds and jingles) and iWeb if you want it (but note that iWeb apparently won't work if you upgrade to Mountain Lion).
Then use Software Update to get any late iDVD updates.

  • External monitor no longer works after installing iLife '09

Before, the external monitor (Apple Cinema HD display) connected via DVI to Mini-DVI adapter was working fine. However, after installing iLife '09 and restarting, the iMac will no longer detect the external display attached to it. I even tried installing a different (but same model) display but it still will not detect.

I'm not sure how installing an application would cause that to happen. Have you shut down (powered off) the iMac completely, and then restarted, since this problem occurred?
Some display settings are stored in PRAM, so if you have not already, try resetting PRAM
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
If that does not help, you can try disconnecting the iMac from power and reconnecting it, using the reset SMC (power management) procedure.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1543
When you reconnect it, initially connect the iMac to a wall outlet, by itself. Leave all peripherals disconnected, except for your USB keyboard/mouse. Make sure it is working properly, then connect only the external display.
If it still does not work, as a test, start up with your Mac OS X installation disc. You are not installing anything, but note if the second display is displaying the background image or not when you are booted from a different system.

  • How do I install iLife 8 and what happens to all my old projects?

I want to buy and install iLife 8 but as I have never upgraded to a new version before I don't know how you do this (apart from purchasing it of course).
Step by step, how do you install the disc?
What happens to all my existing and work in progress iMovie and iDVD projects? Can I continue to work on them or should I wait until I have finished them before upgrading?

If you have a book started in iPhoto 6 then you might want to make a backup copy of the library and the application as some book themes are not included in iPhoto 7. iPhoto 7 will continue to work with that theme but if you switch to another to see what it looks like you can't go back. Another approach is to make a copy of the book in iPhoto 6 for backup just in case, select it and type Command-D.
It apperars that the new large hardcover books have printed dust jackets with the cover photo instead of the photo on the hard cover.

  • Only 90MB disk space after installing iLife '11 - how to move iLife?

Hi, my installation of OS X is on a small SSD and I just barely had enough space to install iLife '11. I need more free disk space though so I need to move the largest iLife programs or maybe the whole thing. Obviously I wouldn't be posting here if the iLife '11 installer would let me install to my external drive but that wasn't the case. I tried "moving" iMovie but I got an error saying that I didn't have permissions. Thanks for any help!
MY LIBRARIES ARE EMPTY! So moving them won't help!

Well - I partially figured out my own solution. You can move iLife. I moved the apple loops in /Library/Audio and all the iLife directories in /Library/Application Support to my storage drive. I made symbolic links for each folder I moved. Then I moved the apps to the other drive. I also moved my home folder - thanks Tom. Now I have 4GB of space back and I'm not seeing any more slowdown. I realize now if I have any other problems I'll just symbolic link more stuff off my startup SSD. Works like a charm for now. I'll update this thread if I run into any trouble. I ran GarageBand and all the loops play instantly off the symbolic links. So to all of you - remember to think creatively! My only alternative was to reinstall os x on the regular HDD - glad I took a moment to learn about symbolic links.

  • CANNOT OPEN OR EDIT PHOTOS SINCE INSTALLING iLIFE 08 and OS 10.5

I have recently installed iLIFE 08 and OS 10.5.1 and I cannot open or edit or use any of the photos in iPhoto. I get a white circle with an exclamation point in the center each time I try open open a photo.
I did back up iPhoto before installing the new software. Should I reinstall from the back up or is there another fix for this problem. Thank you in advance for the help.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. I believe that's an indication of a permissions issue. Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select the option to repair permissions.
If that doesn't fix it download and run BatChmod on the iPhoto Library folder with the settings shown here, putting your administrator login name, long or short, in the owner section and the current group in the group section. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field.

  • I installed iLife '11, but iPhoto doesn't work.

I installed iLife '11, but when I try to open iPhoto, it says it needs to be updated, but when I open Software Update, it doesn't have an update. It might help if I said iMovie and GarageBand updated no problem.

I've got a way to just open iPhoto, but it will not stay open if you quit terminal. Ok.
Go to the original iPhoto probably in your applications folder
    Right click it (or control+click)
Go down to "Show package contents" and click.
Open the Contents folder, open the MacOS folder, open the application iPhoto
Terminal should run, and behind it is iPhoto, i havent checked this for bugs, but let me know if you did
    PS:
DO NOT CLOSE TERMINAL, IT WILL CLOSE IPHOTO
    THIS IS FOR MAC ONLY

  • Installed ILife but iMovie does not show ANYWHERE

I cannot find iMovie anywhere after installing iLife. I've heard many dissapointing things about iMovie 08, but I had no problem with the older version of iMovie. Any suggestions?

If you mean you installed iLife '08 over iLife '06, look for a folder named "iMovie (previous version)" in your main "Applications" folder.

  • Problems installing Adobe Elements 4.0

Wow, do I love my Macbook Pro. No waiting to order it. Got it 3 weeks ago at the Apple Store. No noise, no problem installing my old files .etc.
However, tonight I tried to install Adobe Elements 4 two times. Both times at the last seconds of installing I get a message to try installing again. Is this a known issue with intel Macs? Or do I have defective software?
Thanks for any info about this.

is it best I pair the upgrade and just put another 512 MB in second slot, or can I put 1 or 2 gig in that slot and get dual channel performance?
That's a good question which often leads to a lot of debate. Most benchmarks show the effect of dual channel is minimal, probably because with most applications memory is not the bottleneck, other sub-systems like the hard drive or graphics are.
It really depends on what you're going to do with the computer: if a lot of Elements 4 work under Rosetta with many windows open etc. I think you'd be well served by going to 2GBs of RAM. If intensive use like that will be minimal, and mostly you're going to "iLife it up," e-mail, surfing, etc. then you'd probably be happy adding another 512MB. Over time as more programs go Universal the overhead imposed by Rosetta will be less & less of an issue.
When shopping be sure to check out OWC (Other World Computing) for their pricing on genuine Samsung memory (I'm not a fan of their "no name" brand). Apple uses a lot of Samsung itself, as well as Micron which you can buy from Crucial.com. Others will have their own favorites to recommend, of course.
