Problem installing iPhoto 4

The hard drive on my PowerMac G4 (Quick Silver) recently went bad. I replaced the hard drive and installed OS X 10.3 instead of the original 10.1 that came with the G4. After installing the OS X updates, I realized that iPhoto 2 was installed and that my iPhoto library was created in iPhoto 4. I have iLife '04 with iPhoto 4 and in attempting to install I get the following message:
iLife cannot be installed on this computer.
This installation cannot proceed because one of the following applications is running:
iTunes
iPhoto
iMovie
Please quit these apps before installation.
None of these apps are running. Any suggestions? Thanks!
PM G4 (Quick Silver)   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

That would depend on what you did to get it to quit. I'll guess that you "force quit" the application. If that's what you did, and since it is a "startup item", then it would be reasonable to assume that a system restart would do the trick.

  • Problem with iPhoto 9.3.2: Any assistance or how to re-install?

    Hi all,
I've got a problem with iPhoto 9.3.2 whereby upon startup, I get a spinning wheel which goes on forever (I've left the computer alone for 5 hrs and coming back, it's still spinning). Symptoms are it pulls up the Library with Events, Photos, Faces, even Albums. But I don't actually get any photos displayed on the right.
    I've tried :-
    1) reinstalling Mountain Lion
    2) using Disk Utility Repair Permissions
    3) Rebuilding thumbnails & library
    4) Creating new library
    5) starting up under a new user account (therefore not a problem with a config file in my homedir)
    6) Starting iPhoto up in Safe Mode
Note during the spinning wheel, I can access the menu as such I can quit, import photos, etc.
It actually works (worked) under the following conditions :-
    a) Until 31st July iPhoto 9.3.2 was working fine. I cannot remember what I did/installed/uninstalled/changed/deleted to cause it to have problems
    b) I can get access to the very same library with Aperture with no problems at all (i.e. no library issues)
    c) Photos will only display if I import a picture. Then all Events will appear. I can get into each event, I can even select the photo I imported and delete it. This is my current workaround to accessing photos in iPhoto. However I cannot switch to any of the albums I created. It will only display Events. Clicking on Photos, Faces, Places, and any of the Recent doesn't do anything.
So finally now is to try to re-install iPhoto 9.3.2. Can any one please let me know how I can do this? I've tried Option-Click on Purchases tab in the App Store but I get a greyed out INSTALLED in iPhoto. Similarly I found a link that provided the iPhoto9.3.2Update.dmg but in attempting to installing that, it tells me it can only be done via the App Store.
    Any advice?
    Cheers

@putnik, yes I believe the update came from that site.
@mende1, perfect! That was easy! I thought I had to clean out plist files from my home directory, etc. Upon deletion and reinstallation, iPhoto started working again!
    Thank you so much!

  • Can not open and install iphoto! What`s the problem?

Can not open and install iphoto! What`s the problem?

The problem is, apparently, that you can neither open nor install iPhoto.
Seriously, you give us nothing to work with.
There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 10 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • When I want to edit a photo in photoshop, iphoto duplicates the image and I end up with two or three copies of the same photo and they are also duplicated on my computer.  This has only occurred since I installed iPhoto 11.

Ever since I installed iPhoto '11 on my computer, I have had a problem with images being duplicated when I want to open an image to edit in Photoshop.  I did not realize at first that the images were also duplicated on my computer.  This has taken up an incredible amount of space on my computer.  Why does this happen?  Is there a problem with the software?  Can I remove iPhoto and re-install?  Would that help?

saUnless you have a copy of your iPhoto 09 library you will have to start over from scratch with a new library and import the Masters file from inside iPhoto 11's library as described here:
Start over from scratch with new library
Start over with a new library and import the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from your original library as follows:
    1.  Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
    2. Open the library package like this.
    3. Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
    4. Drag the Origianls (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open iPhoto window.
This will create a new library with the same Events as the original library but will not keep the metadata, albums, books slideshows and other projects.

  • I am trying to install Iphoto on my new MacBook Air adn the install button is grayed out  Any suggestions

I am trying to install iphoto 09 on my new MacBook Air and the install button is grayed out.  Both for installation and custom install.  Is there a problem that I am not aware of?

    Check for receipts
    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store you can find it in your Purchases List.

  • Upgrade problems with iphoto 9.2

I just got a new Macbook Pro about two months ago. Life was already installed, as was Lion, when I received my computer in the mail.
I am running I am running iPhoto 9.1.5. I wish to update to iPhoto 9.2, which includes photo streaming.
Here's the steps listed in the article, iPhoto '11: Update your iPhoto software http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2509
You can also check for updates manually.
To check for updates manually in the Mac App Store (if you purchased iPhoto in the Mac App Store, or if iPhoto and Mac OS X v10.7 Lion or later were preinstalled):
Open the Mac App Store and click Updates in the toolbar.
If an iPhoto update is available, it appears in the Mac App Store window.
I did this. It shows an iPhoto update is available. I cannot download it. An error message comes up saying I must sign in to the account I used to purchase iPhoto. I am signed in with the only Apple ID I have. I click the "Purchased" tab, and none of the iLife applications show up under purchased. The only things listed are Bubble Shootix, Alfred, and Twitter. It goes on to say....
To check for updates manually using Software Update (if you installed iPhoto from the iLife ’11 DVD, or if iPhoto and Mac OS X v10.6.8 Snow Leopard or earlier were preinstalled):
Choose Apple Menu > Software Update.
If an iPhoto update is available, it appears in the Software Update window.
If you purchased iPhoto in the Mac App Store, or if iPhoto was preinstalled on your computer along with Mac OS X v10.7 Lion or later, updates don’t appear in Software Update. Check for updates in the Mac App Store.
Choosing Apple Menu > Software Update does nothing. It says all software is up to date.
To check for updates manually in iPhoto:
Choose iPhoto > “Check for Updates.”
When I choose iPhoto, there is no option listed for "Check for Updates"
I was then told by a 4th Apple Suppoort Technician, "If the steps in the above article do not work, please try to download the update from here: iPhoto 9.2 http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1462
I did this 3 hours ago and once the file is extracted, it says "You cannot update iPhoto from this download. You must update from the app store." As I've mentioned, the app store will not let me update.
Any ideas on how I can update my iPhoto software?

I spoke with an Apple Senior Technician on this problem.
It turns out, when they install iLife to your computer with Lion before shipping it to you, they don't assign it to your Apple ID in the Mac store. Therefore, when you sign in with your ID in the App Store when you get your computer, the App Store recognizes that you have the software installed, but will not update it until you sign in with the ID that was used to to install it.
There are two ways to get around this.
    1) Contact iTunes support and have them change the iLife license to coincide with your current Apple ID. Yes, this HAS to be done through "iTunes" support. Unfortunalety, iTunes support does not have a telephone number. You can only contact them via email. I tried this, and they said they couldn't help me. So I don't suggest this route.
    2) Contact Apple and request you get a hard copy disk of iLife. When they pre-install iLife with Lion, they do not include iDVD or iWeb. Previously, I requested a hard copy of iLife so I could install iDVD and they shipped me a install disk at no extra charge. They should do so for you.
Then, uninstall the current versions of all iLife programs on your computer, then reinstall using the installation disk. Once installed, use "Software Update" in the Apple menu and the update will work.
Evidently, Applications installed with a disk are updated via Software Update. Applications installed via The App Store are updated via The App Store.  You cannot update one with the other.
Hope this helps. It worked for me.

  • Problems installing VadoCentral_MAC_APP_LA_1_2_3.zip on Mac

Problems installing VadoCentral_MAC_APP_LA__2_3.zip on Mac? Preamble: st gen Vado HD
macbook pro running OS X Snow leopard 0.6.2
I'm having a tough time installing the Vado Central SW on my Mac. I tried installing VadoCentral_MAC_APP_LA___0_df6, too. Similar results with both, I get a message "Installation failed."? This comes as no surprise since my mac never installs anything without prompting for an administrator login. So, I ignored the instructions to plug in the Vado after the installation was complete, and plugged it in and tried re-installing the software with the Vado as the installation destination.... which makes sense since it seems to run the Windows Vado Central from the Vado. VadoCentral_MAC_APP_LA__2_3.zip would not let me select any device except the mac hard dri've.
With VadoCentral_MAC_APP_LA___0_df6 I was able to install change the install location to the Vado HD device. It appears to have created an applications folder containing Vado Central.app. But, now when I plug in the Vado, it still automatically starts iPhoto. If I browse the Vado and double click the Vado Central.app, OS X first prompts, asking me if I want to install the application to the local computer. Click "No", then I get prompted that Vado Central rquires the flv2ITunes transcorder downloaded and installed. Click "Yes", then I'm prompted that a newer version of Vado Central is available, "Do you want to download...", click "Yes". It downloads and installs somewhere, but apparently not on the Vado, because it puts me through all of this every time. Whatever/whereever the software is being updated, it's not changing the Vado Cental.app on the Vado, based on the timestamp.
Can somebody provide the correct installation instructions? The minimal instructions on the Creative download page appear to be wrong. (I've looked at the other threads complaining about the mac installation, they don't seem to match my experience.)
    TIA

I have a Vado HD 2nd generation. I use it exclusi'vely on my MacBook.
The firmware version that my Vado came with is "v.250.
I found out the version on my unit by holding down the Delete button
    while turning the unit on.
Is it possible that your unit is not installing v.23 because your unit already has a later version?
    Hope this helps.

  • I have just installed iPhoto 11 and all of photos on my iphone have now all disappeared and ended up in my photo stream and the library in iphoto does not display all my pictures?? Can anyone help?

I have just installed iPhoto 11 and all of photos on my iphone have now all disappeared and ended up in my photo stream and the library in iphoto does not display all my pictures?? Can anyone help?

And I cant work out why all of my pictures are not diplaying in iphoto?
Is this iPhoto on your Mac?  Are you referring to the photos that were in your iPhoto LIbrary prior to the upgrade to iPhoto 11?  If so then apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
If that's not what you're referring to then you should describe what is happening in more detail. Remember we can't see your Mac or your iPhone so need detailed and accurate descriptions of what you're experiencing.
Also we need infomartion like do you have an iCloud account and are you logged into it on all of your devices, iPhoto and Mac? do you have Photo Stream enabled on both.

  • Re-installing iPhoto from OS X cd

    Hello all,
I erased iPhoto a few months ago, but would like to reinstall it, using the OS X original cd. However, I opened up the installer but saw no way to just install iPhoto. Any suggestions? I would like to avoid reinstalling the entire system just for iPhoto...
    Many thanks in advance!

    maineman:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. I haven't had to install from the system disks but here's an Apple KB doucment about doing so: How to install iApps Using Mac OS X Software Install. Somewhere in the process there's supposed to be a Custom option where you can install only what you want.
If that's not right for you you can use Pacifist to located the iPhoto install package on the disk and install it. I've used it and it's very good.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB file backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
