Problem installing Ipod software

I have a brand new nano but cannot get the software installed. OS is XP home SP 2, fully updated. Problem started trying to install from CD -- I get InstallShield error 1608 -2147024894. I have done everything on the InstallShield site that was suggested for that error.
I have gotten the latest programs from Apple sites -- I could install iTunes + Quicktime (installer works ok on them, had a little trouble with Quicktime but finally got it installed. iTunes runs fine but refuses to work with the nano (it says to reinstall ipod/itunes). I got a new IpodSetUp.exe from the web, but it gives exactly the same InstallShield error as the original one on the CD. I double checked the 1608 procedures, turned off virus programs, etc, nothing helps. I have not had any trouble installing other programs lately, and computer is operating normally. My computer setup is fairly extensive and I would hate to risk an XP repair, so hope someone has some other ideas.
Thanks much,
David

I'll reply to my own question -- I got it working, though I'm not really sure how. It might have helped running the install in Safe Mode - THAT didn't work (error 1607) but the next time I went back to normal mode I finally got ipodsetup.exe to run all the way through -- but then it still didn't recognize the nano, so I changed USB ports and did a Reset and a few other things and all of a sudden it started to working. I transferred music, listened to it on nano, etc. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
I probably spent 10 hours on this silly thing, but NOW it is pretty cool. Oh well, maybe if apple makes a few billion on these things they can afford to hire 1 or 2 windows programmers and make the install work a little better. And I never have seen why they can't make the USB thing, plug/play etc, work better - that's mickey soft's fault for sure.
Best
David

I get the message "The software for this ipod is not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes to install the required software." I have reinstalled iTunes and still get this message.  I have the latest version of iTunes installed (11.1.4.62) running on Windows 7.  Any suggestions?Problems

    Hi welcome to Apple Discussions!
Yes, I do know what could be the issue. Your computer may be confusing your iPod with a different drive (thus not recognized or keeps repeatedly asking to name iPod).
In this case the thing to do is try assigning your iPod a different drive letter. in "Control Panel".
Go to "START -> Control Panel".
Click on "Administrative Tools" (if you can't see it, switch to the "classic view" in the left panel).
Go to "Computer Management", then "Disk Management" button in the left area.
Right-click on your iPod there, and click on "Change Drive Letter and Paths...". Change the letter to something like "M" or "N" (further along in the alphabet).
It should look like this picture:
For more details, see this articke , which basically says and explains the same thing:

I hope this solves your issue

  • Can't burn blank CD after installing ipod software

Can't burn blank CD after installing ipod software - I have the system prefs set to launch Toast 6 when inserting a blank disk, and the drive just churns and then ejects the CD. It mounts and runs burned music and data disks with no problem.
My job requires me to burn data disks from pictures I take at work. Should I re-install Toast? The OS? I ran Disk Utility to check/fix permissions, and no change.

The CD that came with the nano won't have anything on it that you won't get with a full iTunes install. In fact, it may have been an OLDER version of the iTunes software than what you had installed before.
I'd reccomend downloading the latest version of iTunes from Apple and installing that to rule out software reversion issues.
If the problem still exists, try booting into toast before inserting the blank disk and see if Toast can still burn to the CD. If it can, then odds are you have to re-instruct your computer to boot toast when a blank CD is inserted. If it can't see the blank CD, or the Finder spits it out again, then I think you'd have to re-install Toast.

  • Problem with video after installing ipod software update 1.2

I recently downloaded the ipod software update version 1.2 for my ipod. It seems to have changed the video screen output as some of my videos now do not play full screen and instead have black boarders down each side of the screen while playing.
At first I thought switching off the widescreen option in the video settings screen would fix the problem but doing this cuts off a large portion of the picture at the top and bottom of the screen. I can only assume this change in screen ratio came with the update and was wondering if anyone knows of a way to fix this problem or if it will be fixed in the next ipod software update with some kind of option to switch screen ratios in the video settings menu.
I would like to keep updating my ipod but have since reset it so icould get full screen video playback and have been avioding the updates incase it happens again.

hmmmm. were those videos that you converted yourself
with QT Pro, alg2? if so, it might be worth checking
on the possibility from this document:
QuickTime Pro: DV format movies may require
    adjustment for iPod
(if the source files were DV PAL, that can produce
the "bars down the side" effect ... unlike NTSC where
you get the "bars along the top" effect shown in the
    graphic in the document.)
I did convert them myself but but not with quicktime pro will this solution still apply if were to purchase QT Pro or should i contact the company i bought my programme from.

  • Problem downloading iPod Software / Network connection could not be made

I am trying to upgrade to version 1.2.1 of the iPod software. I am using version 7.0.2 of iTunes. Whenever I connect my iPod it indicates that there is a newer version of the iPod software. Whenever I try "download and install" or "download only", I get the following error message: "There was a problem downloading the iPod software for the iPod 'My iPod'. The network connection could not be made.".
I am able to get on the internet in my browser and I am able to get to the iTunes store just fine.
I checked the solution at: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304468, but this article isn't the same error message as the one that I am getting. Note: I did try the solution stated in this article and it didn't help.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated!

    1. Purchased category is only for media, I think.

  • Problem installing ipod mini hardware error msg

Installed software ok but when I connect ipod mini to USB 2.0 I get "Found new hardware wizard. There was a problem installing this hardware: apple ipod usb device. An error occurred during the installation of the device. One of the filter drivers installed for this device is invalid." If I click finish I get a pop up at bottom saying" A problem occurred during installation. Your new hardware might not work properly." Click out of that and my ipod and itunes works ok. How do I correct this nusance? Tried reloading 3 times now, same results. Brand new to ipod.

hey, i finally figured out how to do it! i had the same frustrating problem as you until just a moment ago : ) This is what you need to do:
    1) Reset your iPod Mini by holding down on the Menu and the Select button until the Apple appears.
    2) Plug it into your computer, windows and mac should be the same for that
    3) Go into the iPod Updater and update the software : ) should work... if you need anything else, just ask or go to the following:

  • Problems since iPod software update

Since I updated my iPod software the computer and iTunes do not recognize my iPod. No amount of resets and charging, changing USB ports changes this. When I do plug in iTunes also freezes. Once iTunes worked and acknowledged the iPod and said it was corrupted and that I should restore it, but I cannot replicate this result now. Furthermore I have 10 gigs of hi res photography stored on which I would lose. Do I have any more options? At this point I couldnt restore it even if I wanted to.
This is all ridiculous since it came IMMEDIATELY after the software update.

Pdtaylor, I have some of the same problems. I purchased the 30gb video ipod from Bestbuy yesterday. Had itunes 6 on my pc, but when I connected my new ipod, I got a warning that I had to upgrade to itunes 7 or higher. Fine. I uninstall itunes 6, restart pc. I go and download the latest itunes 7 software from itunes, installed it and reboot my pc. Next I start itunes 7, plug in my new ipod. Winxp detects it as a removable drive. Fine, this is normal. I start itunes 7. It briefly detects the ipod, does some kind of software update to the ipod, which I assume is a firmware upgrade? The ipod shows up in itunes 7. I can add some music, see old playlist, etc... I disconnect the ipod and it plays back music, as it should.
BUT, the next time I connect my ipod, winxp see's it, but itunes 7 can't find it. I get a 'do not disconnect' message on the ipod. After 30 minutes of this, I decided to unplug the ipod and uninstall the itunes 7 software, restart and then re-install intunes 7 again, restart. I connect the ipod, winxp see's it, but still intunes 7 does not detect the ipod. *** is this sh**?
For 2 hours I google the web reading about some people having very similar problems with intunes 7 with 5th gen ipod video models. Some folks say it the firmware upgrade, which is suppose to fix video playback problems, so maybe the new firmware is funky?
Today I'm going to take my new ipod back to Bestbuy for an exchange. If I still have problems with itunes 7, then I'm going to get a refund of my hard earned money and look for a non-ipod music player.

  • Computer crashed after installing ipod software

Please, help. My Dell computer wouldn't restart after installing the software for a brand new ipod nano. I'm afraid that it's related to the software CD and I don't know how to get another one under warranty. I just want them to send me a new software CD. Any suggestions?

Not sure if this will actually solve you problem, but...
there's no need to order a new software CD.
You can download all of the necessary iPod software from Apple's website. In fact, this is often preferred over using the CD, since the website will have the latest versions, while the shipping CD might be slightly out of date.
Here's some links to download the software:
    iTunes 6
    iPod Updater
EDIT: Just realized I might be giving some pretty bad advice since your computer won't boot. Obviously my suggestion will only work if you have a bootable machine with Internet access.
    My apologies.
Perhaps if there is an Apple store nearby, you can ask the folks there to put the software on CD for you. Even still, this might be a moot point since you don't have a working computer. You might want to reach out to Dell and get your system in a functional state before proceeding with the iTunes/iPod setup.

  • Problem downloading iPod software...

I need to restore my iPod, as it is not working properly. When I connect to iTunes (the latest version), the Restore screen comes up because right away it says that my iPod has become corrupt and needs to be restored...
...so, I click the "Restore" button, and I get the following error:
There was a problem downloading the iPod software for the iPod "iPod". The requested resource was not found.
    Any ideas???...

    ok guys heres your solution
To reset your 5th generation iPod with video:
Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.
Tip: If you are having difficulty resetting your iPod, set it on a flat surface. Make sure the finger pressing the Select button is not touching any part of the click wheel. Also make sure that you are pressing the Menu button toward the outside of the click wheel, and not near the center.
If the above steps did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep

  • IPod won't restore - problem downloading iPod software

When the restore window comes up and I select the restore button, an error window pops up that says "there was a problem downloading the iPod software for the iPod "iPod". The requested resource was not found". I've tried several of the tips including redownloading itunes and deleting the Temp files. Any other things I should do?

I was able to finally get iTunes to recognize the iPod by putting it in disk mode (pushing the menu & select buttons together then the play/pause & select buttons together) and connecting the iPod to the computer. When I did this, a window came up saying a software update for the iPod was available with a prompt to update. The software updated ok and then the iPod sync'd with iTunes. The only side effect seems to be the iPod is a lot slower now and sometimes acts like it is going to freeze up. I'm not sure if there is anything else I should follow up with to eliminate the resulting side effect.
