Problem installing itunes after computer reformat

I resently reformatted my computer, and during this my brother transferred some programs from his computer to mine, one of these being itunes. The problem is, he has windows 7 and i have vista, so now itunes isnt installing properly. i have followed all the trouble shooting options in the guide, but still says it cant install it. I have heard it may be a problem with itunes on my registery, is there a way i can safely remove it from there so i can reinstall it?

FIXED!!! here is what i did: Downloaded and saved itunes, dled WinRAR. right clicked the itunes.exe icon and opened with winrar, double clicked all the icons in the winrar page for itunes, some didnt work, but the ones that did i clicked repair. Then i deleted the itunes.exe file and redownloaded itunes and it worked!! Not sure how doing what i did solved it, but it did so i is a happy sausage.

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Apple Mobile Device Support entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • Re-installing iTunes after computer crash and syncing Ipods

Our computer recently crashed, and needed to be completely wiped out and reset.... unfortunately our tech was unable to back-up our music files. I have all our music saved onto my iphone and an ipod nano....
So now that I had to re-install itunes, and each ipod can only be synced to one library, does this mean I have to erase all the songs on our ipods, and start from scratch??? Or is there a way around this?

Restore the iTunes library from the backups you were keeping regularly of your computer.

i have the only account on my laptop so have checked and am the account administrator
i run windows 7 home premium
I have the same problem and
have followed the link uninstalling in the correct order,
    then restarted as per instructions,
went to Apple to download itunes,
    hit download now,
Visit the iTunes download page. Click Download Now to download the iTunes installer. When prompted, click Save (instead of Run).
did not get a save instead of run prompt
Right click on iTunesSetup or iTunes64Setup (the installer you downloaded in step 3).
If you have Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8: Choose "Run as administrator."
i can only click run as administrator from right clicking the shortcut on my desktop screen
If iTunes fails to install or repair, it might be necessary to remove components left from a previous installation of iTunes and then reinstall.

    troubleshooting no better
please help. pulling my hair out at this stage
it was working fine until 2 days ago when i opened itunes it offered to update to 12.1
not working since i clicked yes

really dont want to have to restore factory settings

  • Problem Installing iTunes 11.1.4

Hi, so during my update for iTunes 11.1.4 something happened and it couldn't be installed completely. I uninstalled iTunes and its components and tried to reinstall but got an error.
I completely followed the following link: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1925
I uninstalled all components and related programs, deleted all Apple files off my computer from both Program Files and Program Files (x86) and tried to reinstall iTunes. After that I noticed that there was a part in the installing where it said "Rolling Back Action". With further research I found out it was due to the Apple Mobile Device. So once iTunes installed it would run fine but if I connected my iPhone it would say that the software required is not installed and to reinstall itunes. So I did the following steps before and it always did not install the Apple Mobile Device Support.
After that I found more articles describing how to restart AMDS using: http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1567
And tried that but after the reinstalls it gives me another error because AMDS isn't even in the Common Files\Apple\ folder.
So I looked at more articles and found out that I could extract the installers separately through the itunes installer. I did that and got the AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi installer separately but it gave me another error and wouldn't let me install.
I will attach pictures of several of the errors to get a feel of what I've seen.
I have Windows 8, I have installed the LATEST version of iTunes (11.1.4 at the iTunes website), I restarted my computer several times during each uninstall and reinstall. I followed the articles before perfectly.
    What could be the problem?

    To further explain:
The first picture is the error I get when trying to restart the service, which I can't do because the file is not there.
    Following this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1567
The second picture is the AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi window that happens when I tried to install JUST the AMDS after unpacking the .exe installer.
The third picture shows my Apple folder in the Common Files section and it shows that it doesn't even have any folder for Apple Moblie Device Support. This is what shows immediately after I install iTunes after a clean wipe.
And just to let you know it isn't the MSVCR80.dll error or the ERROR 7 problem listed in this article:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5376
In summary, my iTunes opens and runs with no problem and no errors, but I only get an error when plugging in my phone because it never installed the Apple Mobile Device Support. After following countless articles and uninstalling and reinstalling it never installs AMDS so nothing helps. Thank you.

  • Problems Installing itunes on XP

    Hi all,
I have windows XP and had to recently do a system restore due to having a virus on my computer.
Unfortunately my restore point was set prior to installing itunes on my pc. I’m now up and running, but when I come to install itunes after I download it I get the windows error message saying that the programme cannot be installed and do I want to send an error report.
I have tried to install it again and I got the same message.
Does any have any ideas on how to help me
    Thanks
    Toshiba   Windows XP

If I understand correctly, iTunes installed OK on your pC, but whne you try to run it you get an error message.
The first thing to check is Quicktime as iTunes will not work without it.
Does Quickime launch OK and work normally?
If it does use the method in this article to troubleshoot iTunes:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1421
If QUicktime does not launch, describe what happens with any error message in full.
Have you installed any of the following:
ACE & K-Lite mega codecs package, QT alternative, Storm codec, WinAVI video converter, Mpcstar, (possibly starcodec pack, 3ivx)
If so uninstall them, they are know to cause problems with QUickitme.
Then download the version of Quickime without iTunes (it is not the default option):
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
Now Remove Quicktime using the method for Quicktime in this article (just Quicktime):
    XP
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
    Vista
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
When you come to your C:\Windows\system32\ folder you can delete any file or folder with Quicktime in the name.
    Restart you computer
Install the stand alone Quicktime and check if it starts.
If it does you are in a position to find out if iTunes is OK.

  • HT1589 problems with itunes after updating..can't locate some of my songs..some have an exclamation point beside them how do i get these songs back in my itunes

I'm having problems with itunes after updating. I've lost all my playlists,,finally played around with it and got the songs back but some have an exclamation point beside them and can't be located. they are songs i've purchased. I'm not very computer literate so this is a major problem. I have spent hours with this. I just want all my songs to play even though I'm not happy that I have to recreate my playlists. It would be so much easier if I knew and understood how to correct this. Has anyone else had this problem and if so..is there an easy way to correct it?

Not sure how this is an ipod touch question.
Perhaps you should post in the itunes forum.

  • Cannot install itunes on computer

I don't have internet on computer.  I downloaded itunes newest version and saved to flash drive.  When i try to install onto computer, I get this error message.
"The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows your running.  Check your computers system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program and then contact the software publisher."  I have already deleted all previous itunes that was on the computer so thats not the problem.  I know i don't need internet to install itunes onto computer because it worked for me before.  If anyone could help me out I would appriciate it.  Thanks

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

You posted this in the OSX 10.4 forum but your computer profile says you are running OSX 10.6.8  Which system version you are running makes a big difference.
