Problem installing iTunes. "Could not find key..."

Hi,
I am unable to install iTunes. When I try to install either iTunes or Quicktime, the message "Could not find key......." comes up. I have tried to clear my registry, change permissions and a few other things but none have worked. The only account on my laptop is an administrator account and I have tried runing everything "as administrator".
I am also unwilling to reinstall my OS.
Any help is appreciated.
Regards,
ZeroAlpha

... Drat, one of those. They can be tricky, and I don't have a one-size-fits-all solution for them (it depends on the precise nature of the problem with the key). But the following set of instruction is a good place to start:

  • Exclamation mark and the message "itunes could not find your song file

Hi everyone. I've tried doing a search but couldn't find this exact problem. I hope i'm not about to annoy everyone with a question that has been asked a thousand times before.
my problem is that every now A/some song file(s).that are already in my itunes library and played fine and synced with iphones ipod app fine. well sometimes I get this little exclamation mark on A/some song(s) in the library and the message "itunes could not find your song file would you like to locate it" and when i do and it always seems to be in what itunes find box locates first anyway.......( I'm paraphrasing...........i forget exactly what it says)........the funny thing is when i try and locate the files for itunes they are exactly where they are supposed to be........ and i've been able to put the mp3 back into the itunes library in the past, but now a certain mp3 will not show up in itunes library or play. like i said I can locate it fine, i've never renamed any folders or mp3's. other mp3's in this folder play fine , but i've had exclamation marks on some of them in the past, it seems that i know of 2 folders in my music folder that always have this problem with the mp3's in them at ramdom .
does anyone know why itunes is doing this?................it happens sometimes with downloaded music and sometimes with ripped music................sometimes a single track and sometimes just a few single tracks .........it's begining to become slighty annoying........
any help would be most appreciated.

Helpful but i was reading some posts and threads about consolidate library and it seems that if the song is not in the itunes library it will not consolidate it.i've had songs in the library that i deleted from the library and i remember getting a message when i do that action if i would like to delete it from the music folder as well ( in other words trash it completly from harddrive or do i just want to delete the song from the library and still keep it in the music folder but i guess those actions have little effect if you didn't have the song in itunes music folder,, but another folder. except for the part that it will remove the song from the library. if there was a way to consolidate your music folder(s) into the itunes folder that would be cool. and still leave your itunes library with out those songs you didn't want in there, but wanted to leave in the music folder.

    kindly advise

    hi karthi2lenovo,
    Welcome to the Forums.
If the conexant audio drivers from the lenovo website doesn't detect the device, can you try to:
    1. Open Device Manager (press Winkey+R > type devmgmt.msc)
    2. On the device manager, open Sound, video, and game controllers and Other Devices then check the status (if there's a yellow exclamation mark, error codes, etc.)
    3. As an alternative, try this conexant driver from station-drivers:
    Conexant High Definition Smart Audio
    Version 8.64.59.52 (Win8)
    Let me know your findings,

  • Could not find key?

I have tried to upgrade Itunes, but everytime I do it comes back saying it cannot be installed & that it needs QuickTime. But when I try to download QuickTime, it claims that it could not open key(?) I've even uninstalled Itunes completely, but it still does the same thing. Please, help!
I even went to Best Buy yesterday, and asked the "Geek Squad" and they've never heard of a situation like mine either! I have no idea what to do. I haven't had any problems until this new Itunes came along.
I hate you Itunes + QuickTime.

That worked. Thank you very much!Good. You should read [_Setting the class path_|http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/technotes/tools/windows/classpath.html] that tells you more about what the classpath is and how to set it.

  • "Could Not Find Key" error when trying to download iTunes 7

Everytime I try to install iTunes 7, it gets about half way done and then says that it cannot find some sort of key (HKEYLOCALMACHINE\Software\Classes\QuickTime.QuickTime\CLSID is the full text FYI). I have no clue what this means since I'm a far cry from a computer whiz. Any help would be awesome.

"could not write value APSDaemon to \Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Run. Verrify that you have sufficent access to that key or  contact you support personnel"
I then went to that key and changed the permissions on it so that for Everyone - it was Full Controll instead of limited and I also changed the permissions for my administrative account which also didn't have full control. • Trying to install Panther, could not find DVD player

While trying to install panther 10.3 if would get to the end and give the message that there were errors installing the software. I was asked if it would play a dvd and found out it wouldn't. The dvd icon would come up but when i clicked on it there would be a couple of things video and audio. Nothing would work and then I tried to find the DVD player and it wasn't in applications or anywhere else I could think of.
I don't have the original 10.2 disks, just the 10.3 upgrade.
    Any ideas?

I replaced the CD with another and it works fine -- I guess its the drive.

After following instructions for three different solutions that did NOT work; I found the solution that did work
on the support site for Syamntec.
Readers - Please, you must be VERY familiar with pc jargon and windows vernacular to accomplish the reset
of ALL the permissions in your registry.
Follow the ditrections below and pay attention to the notes for those running 64bit Win7.
Step one, back up the registry.
Step two, go to the MS KB: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=e8ba3e56-d8fe-4a91-93cf -ed6985e3927b&displaylang=en and download the file that installs subinacl. It is an MSI file, and will do a quick install of a few Microsoft files.  Hint: Look in the folder listed below, "subinacle.exe" may already be there.
Step three, create a batch file (subinacle.bat) with the following commands:  (Use Notepad - copy & paste, not the red stuff)
cd /d "Program Files\Windows Resource Kits\Tools" (only for 32bit/x86 machines)
    subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f
    subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CURRENT_USER /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f
    subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f
    subinacl /subdirectories %SystemDrive% /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f
    subinacl /subdirectories %windir%\*.* /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f
    secedit /configure /cfg %windir%\inf\defltbase.inf /db defltbase.sdb /verbose
For 64bit machines substitute for first line of bat file:
                        cd /d "c:\program files (x86)\windows resource kits\tools"
Step four, run the batch file. Let it run until the Command Prompt screen closes, may take 30 minutes or more.
Step five, reboot the machine and run the install again.
Ladies and Gentlemen; this worked for me and allowed immediate installation of two application packages I had been trying for three months!  (Including ITunes 10.5)
