Problem installing itunes, quicktime or anything else. Stuck at "Publishing Product Information" then error. Please help!

Dear apple community, I'm having trouble installing ANY apple programs, i.e. Quicktime, iTunes, Application support etc. The installer gets stuck at "Publishing Product information" and eventually gives me an error information. Please help! I desparately need to install quicktime atleast! I tried installing an old version but it says "install apple application support" or something along that matter. When I unrar'd itunes installer and tried installing just the application support, but that too got stuck at "Publishing Product information". This is making life very hard for me. Any help would be awesome!!

These ones are typically caused by underlying problems on the PC that also often cause Windows Updates to fail to install. If we can fix the Windows Update trouble, we can usually get the iTunes trouble cleaned up en passant.
Go into your Windows update and try to check for new updates. If updates install, stock up on the ones you're behind on, restarting the PC if requested to do so. After the restart, try installing iTunes again. Does it go through this time for you?
If windows updates fail to install, go into your Update History and doubleclick the failures. What alphanumeric codes appear for you? Are they also 800736FD, or some other number? (If they're another number, what number are you getting?)

    hi Katrina!
IF you are running DCOMCNFG to fix something, does that mean you got an error 1607?
here's what i think is going on with this poor chap.
our "publishing product quit"/1607 KB doc got revised on 31 january 2006:
iTunes for Windows installation quits while publishing product information
... and there's now an alternate set of treatment possibilities given in there for XP home users. people are being linked to the DCOM settings tip over at InstallShield:
Configure the DCOM Settings on Your Computer
so i think here that our OP has a "publishing product information" quit version of this problem, and followed up on that link, which is why DCOMCNFG got mentioned.

It's stuck on publishing product information when i try to download itunes 10.7

Thanks, kochdo! I thought there might have been one of those beasts lurking in the background of this.
    A couple of questions.
    (1) Do you currently have a copy of the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package installed on that PC? If so, try downloading the following security update:
[Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package ATL Security Update|http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=766a6af7-ec73-4 0ff-b072-9112bab119c2&displaylang=en#filelist]
Does iTunes install for you after applying that update?
    (2) If no joy there, head into your Windows Update and click on the Update History. Have a lot of Updates also been failing for you recently? If so, doubleclick on the entries for the failed updates to bring up more information on each. What error codes appear for you for the failed updates? (Precise spelling, please.)

  • Problem installing iTunes + QuickTime

So, I uninstalled QuickTime (last week) and then installed QuickTime Alternative, because it's smaller in size and I don't use QuickTime at all. That's probably what's caused my problem, and here it is.
So today I double clicked on the iTunes shortcut and I got a pop-up saying 'iTunes needs QuickTime in order to run. Please uninstall & install iTunes + QuickTime'-or something like that. So I uninstalled iTunes but now I can't install it. It freezes during the installation at 'Copying New Files'. What do I do?

    hi RockDad!
let's try enlisting some additional technical help with this one.
let's try getting a installer log to someone who can interpret installer logs.
Start menu -> Run... In the text field of the dialog that comes up, type in "cmd" and hit return.
In the command prompt dialog that comes up, find the iTunes installer on your desktop and drag it to this window. Then on the same line type in a space and then the following:
    /Verbose"c:\log.txt" /V"ENABLE_QTLOGGING=TRUE"
There is no space between the e in Verbose and the double quote ("). There is no space between the V"Enable...
    Hit return.
The installer will create two log files:
    C:\log.txt and C:\qt.log
Find those files and send them to this email address Put the URL to this discussion thread into the email, so that the person who gets it has some context. Let them know the version of itunes you’re trying to install, too … in general, give as much info as you can.

  • ITunes installer stuck at "publishing product information"

I have been trying to install itunes for Win7 64 Bit for the past few days.
I have - deleted all apple folders, uninstalled all apple products, restarted windows seven, disabled firewalls, resintalled. I get this error, it rolls back, then reinstalls successfully, but does not recognize my iPhone - defeating the purpose of me having itunes if I can't sync my phone.
And then when it tries again - it errors and says Service (Apple Mobile Device) failed to start. Verify you have sufficient priveledges to start system services.

We have the same problem over here and investigated that the source of this problem is not the iTunes setup itself furthermore it's the setup of the Mobile Device drivers ("AppleMobileDeviceSupport64") that raises the provided error.
Maybe someone could work on a solution with this information.
    We'll follow this thread...

  • Problem installing iTunes + Quicktime 7.4.1

Today when I opened my iTunes application it informed me that a new version was available. I went through the normal update process to install version 7.4.1. After completing the install process I was not able to load iTunes and received the following message when trying to open the application:
"The iTunes library .itl file cannot be found or created. The default location of this file is in the "iTunes" folder in the "my Music" folder."
I ran the iTunesSetup file to repair the application without success. I then uninstalled ITunes and QuickTime and reinstalled version 7.4.1 using the same file. This also did not fix the problem; I still am receiving this same error message.
What should I do to correct this problem?????

    Hi there,
I also have this exact problemt 'Today when I opened my iTunes application it informed me that a new version was available. I went through the normal update process to install version 7.4.1. After completing the install process I was not able to load iTunes and received the following message when trying to open the application:

I was hoping that someone may have found a solution and posted it by now, I have been trying everything I can think of and still no luck.
    Has anything worked for anyone?
I really don't want to reset my computer again, I only just finished doing this before this happened.

The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

  • *Problems uninstalling itunes/quicktime after using windows install cleanup

I was having problems installing itunes/quicktime 7.6. Everytime I tried to install it it would say that it does not have a valid digital signiture. So one of the suggestions I saw on this forum was to install windows install cleanup and use it on itunes and quicktime. So I did but all it did is mess up my old itunes/quicktime. Now when I go to try and uninstall itunes and quicktime from the add and remove programs in the control pannel it does not even show itunes or quicktime in my program list. Any suggestions??

Ok, Update. I was able to remove itunes and quicktime manually after going into my windows task manager and to the processes tab and ended all processes involving itunes, apple, or quicktime. So now when I install itunes/quicktimes via apples site when it gets to the end it just disapears and nothing happens. I searched to see if it installed anything and it didn't, didn't even give me any reasons why. Can anyone help me with this?? It would help me a ton!

I'm not a big fan of that Apple Software Update. Try downloading and installing itunes from this page, instead of using that. Make sure to SAVE the iTunesSetup.exe file to your hard drive.
Turn off security software while it's installing.
