okay, this looks to be the key piece of information:
Windows ® Installer. V 3.01.4000.1823
that suggests you've got Windows Installer 3.1v1 (or 3.0) on your PC at the moment. try upgrading to Windows Installer 3.1v2. see:
Windows Installer 3.1 v2 (3.1.4000.2435) is available
does an itunes install go through properly with a 3.1v2 in place?

  • Cannot install itunes, windows installer package error

I've been looking around for a solution and I still can't find one that is specifically for my case. I've never had itunes before (well I guess I did but THAT never installed for some reason).
Anyways, I can't install the latest itunes (and I tried itunes 9 as well), it keeps giving me this message:
There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor.
I tried everything! I uninstalled everything and redid the installation. I did this method with the extract.bat to get the msi files to individualling install from the itunes64setup.exe...the only msi files that don't download and give me that error are the updater and actual itunes msi file.
    I'm on a:
    Acer Aspire 8930G
    Windows Vista Home Premium
    Service Pack 2

    Repair your Apple software update.
Go to START/ALL PROGRAMS/Apple Software Update. If it offers you a newer version of Apple Software Update, do it but Deselect any other software offered at the same time. Once done, try another iTunes install
If you don't find ASU, go to Control Panel:

  • Cannot install iTunes - windows installer problem!

I have spent two days trying to fix the registry and use a clean utility. Nothing works! I see that this is a fairly common issue that has been around for several years, but none of the fixes (including the msi utility that MS has now taken down) works. Some suggested that I just uninstall the windows installer utility, but I'm can see how to do that. I've tried stopping the service, but it doesn't work.  I am looking at my new iPhone which is a lovely paperweight.

This did not work for me, but you might want to try.  I have both an iPhone and an iPad2.  I think that I am going to have to reformat my drive.

  • Problems installing iTunes -- Windows XP

A few days ago I went to open my iTunes, however it got stuck/froze while trying to access the itunes store. Had numerous problems with this each time I opened iTunes--even after shutting off and/or restarting my computer. I ended up uninstalling all of the apple programs-- itunes, bonjour, ipod, etc.
After doing so, I downloaded the latest version of itunes form the apple website. It downloads, however when I go to install it I get a message that pops up saying the following:
"iTunes Installer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. If you were in the middle of something the information you were working on might be lost. Please tell Microsoft about this problem. We have created an error report that you can send to us. We will treat this report as confidential and anonymous." I can click on a link that shows me what data the error report contains, and when i do so the error signature is: EventType : InPageError P1 : c000009c P2 : 00000003
On this box that pops up, I have a button to "Debug", "Send Error Report" or "Don't Send"-- I have tried clicking on each one during separate installations, however nothing seems to work.
I've shut my computer off for a while, I've also tried restarting it, and I have also tried downloading an older version of iTunes. I used to have iTunes on this computer for 4+ years and it had been working fine. Can someone PLEASEEE HELP

I got a similar problem though I'm not upgrading because my screen reader, JAWS from Freedom Scientific, and the JAWS scripts for ITunes for the version of JAWS I have is version 10 and the scripts is version 4.1 only works with ITunes version 8.2.1. Now that I've got that out of the way, on to my dilemma. I Get An Error Using ITunes 8.2.1 When Opening
    I'm having trouble
with ITunes. When I open it to say play a radio station,
say smooth jazz sky.fm, when I open the application
using WinXP Home Edition service pack 3 all my
windows stuff is up to date, however I get this error
when I select ITunes and press enter on it. Anyone
know how to troubleshoot this? iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on
    might be lost.

Close button or more details button is all I see so I chose close so I can write you, well now I'll leave it to you to give me options in troubleshooting
this. Thanks so much for your valuable feedback and help.
Also I tried to uninstall it, deleted all associated files, probably accidently deleted the Apple software update stuff including bonjovi or whatever it is called, hahaha, anyway, I'm a mess and don't know what to do regarding this problem can someone please email me at [email protected] because I'm at a loss as to what caused this and what to do about it. If I were to press the more details button, I get: iTunes
    Error signature
AppName: itunes.exe AppVer: 8.2.1.6 ModName: unknown
    ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 10001040
To view technical information about the error report, click here. Close And if I were to press the technical information button I get: iTunes

    ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 10001040
To view technical information about the error report, click here. Close So, what can I do?

  • I am trying to upload itunes 10.5, but get a message "There is a problem with this Window Installer Pkg. A program required for this install to complete could not be run.  Contact your support personnel or package vendor".  What is it I need to do?

I am trying to install itunes 10.5, but during the download I get the following message, "There is a problem with this Window Installer Package.  A program required for this install to complete could not be run.  Contact your support personanal or package vendor."  If this is my personal computer and was able to upgrade to the previous version (pre 10.5), why not now?  What is my "package vendor"? And what is it I need to do to fix this?  The message is unclear.  Unfortunately, I deleted my itunes program, thinking that in doing so, 10.5 would finally load.  Now I have no itunes on my computer and unable to sync my iphone.  Help!
    Thanks - Rick

    Hi Rick,
by "repair" I mean I went to the control panel, option - programs and features, and in the list of all my installed programs I selected "Apple Software Update". On top of the screen you find the options Uinstall, Change and Repair. I clicked the repair button and that did the trick. After the repair I could uninstall the program. I also uninstalled iTunes, Apple Application Support, Apple Mobile Device Support en Bonjour, thus all Apple programs. Then I installed iTunes 10.5 again and everything went fine.
    Success,
    Peter

  • How to re-install iTunes after receiving "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package ..." message?

    Hi,
This is how it all started. When the new update for iTunes 11 came out, I tried to update it. After I had updated it I found nothing had changed. So i tried rebooting my computer and everything and found that still nothing had changed. So I tried uninstalling it. After that I tried to re-install it, but it came up with the
"There is a problem with this Windows Installer package ..." message. So I looked around the internet and found a website that told me to uninstall all Apple products. So i did that. When i tried to uninstall Apple Software Update, it came up with the 'problem with windows' message again. So I used Revo to uninstall it. So I rebooted and tried to install it again. It installed Bonjour and all of the other programs but stopped halfway and gave me the 'proplem with windows' message again. I've looked around and most of the solutions have been to try and repair Apple Software Update, but the problem is, I've already deleted it. So can someone PLEASSEEEE help me fix this problem! (Sorry for droning on)

  • I'm not able to download Itunes.  I keep getting this Apple Software Update message that states "There is a problem with this Windows installer package.  A program required for this install to complete could not be run.  Contact your package vendor"

Not able to access Itunes store anymore.  Just quit working for no reason.  I've tried deleting Itunes and related components from the Control Panel, but when I try to remove Apple Software Update, I get a message that states "There is a problem with this Windows installer package.  A program required for this install to complete could not be run.  Contact your support personnel or package vendor".  Not sure what this message means.  Am I suppose to contact Apple ?  What is meant by package vendor ?

Apparently it's an itunes issue. I just tried to update and got the same issue. Called att to activate my iphone 4s and they say they can do the swap but apple is telling them itunes is down atm.  So will have to wait

I have also tried extracting the individual components to the temp file and attempting to install them individually despite being unable to remove the previous install of Apple Software Updater.  The outcome, both Apple Software Updater and itunes encountered the same error message during the install process.

Perhaps let's first try updating your Apple Software Update.
Launch Apple Software Update ("Start > All Programs > Apple Software Update"). Does it launch and offer you a newer version of Apple Software Update? If so, choose to install just that update to Apple Software Update. (Deselect any other software offered at the same time.)
If the ASU update goes through okay, try another iTunes install. Does it go through without the errors this time?
