Problem Installing Leopard Update 10.5.2

When I run software update it downloads 10.5.2 and start to install but the progress bar only moves about 1/4 inch and then stops. If you leave it for 24 hours it never moves. All of the other updates install fine. Ideas?

Not sure, try this Combo Update. It's the Combo Update so it's larger but if there's any system corruption it should fix it.
EDIT: Remember to Verify Disk before update and repair permissions after update from /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.

  • I am having a problem installing the updated version 10.3.1.55 on my laptop.

    I am having a problem installing the updated version of Itunes 10.3.1.55 on my laptop which uses Windows XP operating system. I have download the software from Apple's website and have successfully installed it. However, when I launch Itunes I get an error message "Itunes was not installed correctly" "error 7 (windows error 999)". I have uninstalled the software, deleted all associated files, and reinstalled the software, but I am still having the same problem. I did not have any issues with the older version of Itunes. Does any one have a work around for this problem, or how can I download the old version I was using?

    Hi all,
    Sylonious, did you manage to sort this problem out? I have been experiencing similar problems. I think my problem was because I had many different versions of JDKs. I have done a complete re-install. I would be really grateful to you (and anyone else) for help with this problem.
    I have re-installed JSDK1.4.2_03, set the "path" variable to "C:\JSDK1.4.2_03".
    When I compile using "javac" I get an error saying "javac" is not recognised.
    When I compile using "C:\j2sdk1.4.2_03\bin\javac Freq.java" no error is thrown.
    Every time I try to run a java file, I always get the NoClassDefFound error. When run with the -verbose option, files are loaded from C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_03\bin - is this correct?
    I have removed all previous references to java in the registry editor.
    Please help !
    Regards,
    Vipul

    Hi, i have a small issed ever since i owned this desk top. whenever i do an update it always tels me thatThere was a problem installing this update to your super drive?

    Hey bdkj,
    What I meant was I copied back the user/cindy/library/mail folder contents from the laptop backup so as to resurrect my Mail boxes, accounts, emails.
    bdkj I emptied & trashed the caches as you suggested, still no luck.
    I've also noticed as soon as Mail starts to lock up and show declining 30gigs on my drive, I disconnect the internet, quit Mail and my laptop seems to come back to normal. One weird thing...during the Mail glitch when I watch my drive drop from 30gig available to 28 to 25...once Mail is closed and I go on with word processing, browsing, my drive numbers come back up to the 30gigs actually available. Is this weird or what? The entire Mail crap out/quit Mail/drive returns to 30gigs all takes about 2 minutes to transpire. Thank you
    Cindy

  • HT4059 Problems installing ibook update

    I can longer access ibook on my ipad.  I went through the normal process of installing an update in App store, then clicked install and that app jammed. I cant even access ibook anymore. Need advice on how i can fix problem.

    Here's what happened in safe boot mode.
    I click on apple logo > software update > see's that Super Drive 3.0 is checked > click install
    I wait for the install to go through.
    First pop up says " There was a problem installing this update" Quit all apps before installing bla bla bla... I noticed a sound when this pop up appeared. It's the sound of when you restart the macbok. There is another popup behind this saying that software update has been sucessfully installed.
    So what I did first was click "quit" on the popup saying "There was a problem installing this update".
    then I clicked "ok" where it said that the software installation update was successfully installed.
    I get another pop up which is the Software Update window. I let it look for any updates and it then says that my software is up to date. I noticed that Super Drive 3.0 is listed and cannot be checked [x]. There's a Check mark with a green circle around it.
    I quit the software update window and click on apple logo > software update and let it do its thing. Next thing you know, It says that Super Drive 3.0 needs to be updated. I also checked the SERIAL ATA and still shows rev. CP06.
    I just recently installed this mac os X so there is no "important" data on this laptop. I don't have any money for OS Lion or Mavrick nor meet the system req to run it. 2gb to 4gb is expensive for a ddr2 800 200 pin ram

  • Airport problems after leopard update

    Hello, guys.
    I need your support to solve a "mistery". I remember a similar post 4 or 5 months ago but in this case issue was solved with the next patch.
    I have been installing several leopard updates and now I can't connect me to my wireless lan. Leopard cannot understand my password.
    No problem if I want to connect me to unsecure wireless lan.
    I think that is a problem with the password entry window code.
    Some kind of suggestion ?
    Thsnks in advanced.

  • Unreadable Files After installing Leopard UPDATE

    Okay, so I went through a bunch of problems and though I should share my experience to hopefully help others with the same problem.
    Installed leopard after being told it had no conflict with FCP6. Well, it did, as i couldn't open any of my older project files and got the dreaded error message: Unreadable or may be too new for this version of Final Cut."
    Tried many things, like trashing preferences, reinstalling FCP6, opening files different ways. None were successful, heard I had to do a clean install, which I didn't want to do. Went to the genius bar, spoke with tech support and browsed these forums for another way.
    After realizing that there wasn't any way for me at leats I decided to do a clean install, and IT WORKS now.
    Bad points: H
    1. Have to back up all your content on harddrive.
    2. Spend a lot of time installing everything again
    3. Spending time updating everything again.
    Good points:
    1. You can work again with FCP and Leopard
    2. The computer runs faster.
    3. You realize a lot of junk you didn't need to begin with and you have a nice new clean computer.
    Hopefully this will help others.

    Also my boss figured out another solution. On the computer that I was getting the other files from, I had to have it export the FCP file in an XML format. Then once I opened the XML file on my computer I just reconnected all of my media and it worked.
    For some reason the intel/G5 switching didn't like something about FCP6 project files but it worked when the file is in XML format.

  • Problem Installing Leopard - am Forced to Erase and Install... :-(

    - MacBook Pro
    - Mac OS X 10.4.11
    - Used Disk Utility from the Tiger Install to repair, and S.M.A.R.T is all good.
    - Did a full bootable backup onto an external disk
    Now, when I start installing Leopard (Version 10.5.6), a problem emerges. While I would like to start with Update and Install (to preserve my current bunch of programs as they are), the following happens:
    1. My disk is shown with a little yellow triangle on it.
    2. When I select it as a destination for install, I get the following message at the bottom of the screen, just above the buttons:
    "You cannot install Mac OS X on this volume without changing your installation settings." And tells me to click Options; when I do, I get the following:
    "Destination disk must be erased for installation of Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" (which is strange, because this is what I have installed).
    Would appreciate any suggestions or ideas...
    Thanks,
    Simon

    Well, miracles do happen...
    The woman at the Apple store found out a strange thing on my machine - it was showing 2 mounted disks. Both the same name, both boot the same, both don't show in Disk Utility (only one). We figured there is really no other way other than Erase and Install. She did mention the migration step, when configuring Leopard, which is what I did during the install.
    A couple of hours later, my whole system is migrated and looks like it works. All Microsoft Office 2008, Firefox and Opera (with all the bookmarks and all), all my system setups, preferences, key chain, and passwords. iWork. Little Snitch and Peer Guardian. Even HamachiX. Seems as though everything is here. Have not yet checked Adobe, as I have heard they don't like to migrate... might have to be a reinstall.
    Looking good, it is, and I am impressed. No more fear of Erase and Install... I say, go for it, while having a full bootable external disk, just in case.

  • Problems installing Leopard Server on Xserve

    I have an Xserve with no monitor or keyboard access. I need to install Leopard server upgrade, I read the instructions on-line and in the booklet that comes with the software. Obviously, I cannot press C upon boot since I cant see the monitor nor can I see if I need to update my bios.
    I tried enabling Remote Desktop using the kickstart command, but whenever use Chicken of the VNC to connect it says it cant find the server.
    I used the "Server Assistant" and it tells me the same thing "Cant find server" but i can ping it and log into it using terminal. I can also run all the other applications like "Server Monitor", "Server Admin", and "Workgroup Manager" just fine.
    The server is in another segment because it is in our server room I used one of the server room connection and still cant find server.
    Can someone please help getting Leopard installed on this Xserve?
    Thanks

    The general answer is yes. But the conditional answer is that you must have the original installation media from the Xserve model before it started shipping Snow Leopard exclusively. This means you would need to have bought an Xserve as recently as December to have the combo OS pack as I believe Apple stopped shipping Leopard around early January (although that might be on BTO models so if you got one from the channel it may still have the original media kit). You need to be mindful of the machine's Boot ROM version. The change of one digit can cause some issues with older installation media.
    If you don't have recent media kits, you "should" be able to construct a functional OS by building on other hardware and patching up to 10.5.8. Then cloning it to the new unit.
    And, you've peaked my interest. What specific issue have you had with 10.6 and Xsan?
    Hope this helps

    Troubleshoot Update Errors
    Many update errors are caused by missing or modified files required by Photoshop, typically by a disk cleanup utility (Ex: CleanMyMac, MacKeeper, etc). Make sure you have the latest updates for your clean-up utilities or discontinue use.
    Explanations of error codes:
    U = Updater.
    44 = Install Update Error
    M1 = Automatic
    M2 = Standalone mode
    P = Patcher
    6 = Done With Errors
    7 = Installation Failed
    ISSUE: Installation failed. Error Code: U44M1P7, U44M2P7, U44M1P6
    SOLUTION: Run the installer. Reinstall Photoshop CS6 to repair/replace the missing/modified file. Select Help>Updates… to run the updater again.http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/error-u44m1p7-installing-upda tes-ccm.html
    ISSUE: The adobe update 13.0.1.2 errors with code U44M1I210.
    SOLUTION: Restart your system, download and install the updates manually. See “Solution 3″ here. http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/error-u44m1i210-installing-up dates-ccm.html
    Note:
    After I installed CS6 on top of itself all the Updates installed without problems. My Plug-ins, Extension and Script tree addition were all still intact and working.

  • Problem Installing Software Updates

    Hi everyone
    I have another question for the sages of this forum... I've had my macbook pro for only a few months now and I've only just got around to installing the various software updates it requires.
    Now, the ones I'm first trying to install are the updates for iTunes and for OS X. The macbook tells me I need to restart in order to install the updates. It then closes down the desktop and a 'Software Update' dialogue box pops up with a progress bar. This box reads: 'Installing 2 Updates' and under the progress bar it says 'Configuring Installation'.
    But the problem is nothing seems to happen. The progress bar fills slightly (maybe a couple of millimetres, or a fraction of an inch for those of you in States) and then doesn't seem to do anything else.
    Is this normal? How long should this process normally take?
    If this isn't normal, what can I do?
    This is the second time I've attempted to install these updates and this has happened both times.

    It should not hang there like that for too long. I've seen some installs (especially OS X updates, e.g. the 10.5.6 update) take 10+ minutes, but there's a fair amount of activity in the install progress window. Normally, Software Update does a good job.
    First off, make sure you are connected to AC power, and if possible, try connecting via Ethernet (assuming you are using Wi-Fi).
    Alternatively, you can apply the update(s) manually. In this case, I expect it's the OS X update causing the hangup - so, you can download and manually install the 10.5.6 combo update:

  • Problems installing Leopard 10.5 on eMac that has 10.3.9 installed

    Hi, my sisters eMac (1Ghz, 512MB Ram, and 500 GB HDD), is unable to install Leopard. The problem is that once the machine reboots, as per the Leopard installer screen that asks you to reboot, the machine is stuck on the grey screen with the apple logo. She left it like that all night, in the hope that it would continue, but no luck.
    Any thoughts, we've tried forcing it to boot to DVD by holding down the option key at restart, but that isn't doing anything either.

    IF you have a repair disc run a repair disc and optimizer..sounds like you have a conflict. If you don't have a repair disc, there is one built in..do a search.Your files need a tune -up. Once you have cleaned up your hard drive and restarted. then insert the CD and follow the instructions..don't try any fancy custom installations.....You need install on a perfectly healthy hard drive.
    shedone
    P. S. If you can't figure out what I am talking about..reinstall your original OS this will surely clean up your hard drive...
