Problem installing multi-disc software

I've got a 15" Macbook Pro running Leopard (10.5.2) and Bootcamp with Windows XP. I use the windows partition primarily for PC games. Games that have a single disk (e.g., Half-Life) install and run just fine. I am having trouble installing games that come on more than one disc though (e.g., Call of Duty). I put Disc 1 in and the installation begins. It then asks me to eject Disc 1, put in Disc 2 and hit "OK". I do this and the installation hangs. If I go to the Windows task manager it says the Installation program is "not responding". This has been a problem with multiple games.
I got around this problem with one game by copying the entire contents of the 2nd CD to the hard drive and then directing the installation program to the files. But with Call of Duty it doesn't give me and option to tell it where the files are, it just says hit "OK" so I don't think this same approach will work.
Suggestions? Thanks!

Autorun.exe is a Windows/PC executable, not a Mac OS X file. You cannot run .exe files in Mac OS X.
Generally the installer will ask for any additional discs required. If none were requested during the normal installation, then the other discs aren't required for the Mac installation. This should all be explained in the installation or user guide that came with the software. However, if you feel you are having an installation problem then you need to contact the software developer for assistance. These discussions do not provide support for third-party products.

  • Problem installing multi-disc software with USB Superdrive

I'm trying to install a large virtual instrument library for music production (Komplete 5). On a brand new Macbook Pro Retina, using the USB Superdrive for installation.  Typically with these installers, once it's finished with one disc, it asks you to insert the next DVD in the sequence to continue installation. The problem I've run into with the Superdrive is that it won't allow me to eject the disc, giving me an error message that the disc is "in use by the installer." This never occured on other Macs with an internal optical drive. I can't find any way to force eject the disc in order to move on with the installation.  I'm stuck until I can find a workaround.  Any suggestions?

The Disk Utility repair disk can't be run on the boot disk from the boot disk.  You must boot into another hard drive and run Disk Utility from it on your boot drive. Or you can try booting into the Recovery HD that Mt. Lion creates.  There you can run Disk Utility.  I'm not sure if you can repair disk with this method but it's worth a try. I've only used it to reinstall the system on my iMac. Apple - OS X Recovery restores your Mac with a few clicks.
Another possibility is to boot into Safe Mode, Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode.  During startup it will run some of the repair routines that disk utility does.  That may be sufficient.  Reboot and verify the disk again with DU.

  • Problems Installing Adobe CS2 software

    Hi,
I purchased my iMac aswell as Adobe CS2 software back in September. I started installing the CS2 software (4 discs) and by the last disc, installation froze and the drive sounded like it was in a continuous search on the disc. So I had to reboot and eject the disc. This continued for 2 more tries. I contacted Adobe and they said it was a disc problem, so I exchanged my CS2 for another CS2 disc set. I completely erased the previous CS2 applications, reinstalled OSX and tried again. This time it was the 2nd of 4 discs that just got skipped over - nothing even installed from that disc - the computer just spat it out and said: "disc 2 complete, please insert disc 3..."
Anyone think I have drive or hardware issues???

    Hi Bushfire.
I had a very similar problem when I installed CS 1 under OS X 10.3 on an iBook. In that case it turned out that the version of Stuffit Expander supplied with the OS was too old. (The stuffit engine is, I believe used to unpack some or all of the goodies from the installer). After upgrading Stuffit Expander to - I think to version 7 at the time - the install went perfectly.
OS X 10.4 doesn't have any version of stuffit expander included with it at all. Have a look on versiontracker.com to download if you haven't allready got it. Could be worth a try.
I have subsequently installed CS 2 on my iMac G5, and everything went OK -so it CAN work.
Good luck - and let me know if it works.

  • I am having a problem installing the JDK Software. Please Help

Please help I am Having trouble installing my JDK software. I tried to make a simple program saying Hello World and the program fails to work because it can not find my class.
    C:\Jfiles\DIR
    ILoveJava.java
    ILoveJava.class
    C:\Jfiles\Javac ILoveJava.java
    C:\Jfiles\Java ILoveJava
    Exception in thread "main" Java.lang.NoclassDeffounderror
The Path seems to be set correctly because the Javac compiled.
I have tried a number of different ClassPath Definitions like C:\JDK.14\Lib\Tools.jar and ClassPath=.;C:\JDK.14\Lib\Tools.jar and ClassPath=. and ClassPath=
I made sure that the capitilization and the spelling was the same between the ILoveJava I specified in notepad and the program name.
I am also having trouble with JBuilder, Eclispe and NetBeans with finding Classes.
Another error that I received after I changed the ClassPath to ClassPath= .;C:\JDK1.4\bin\ was a
nosuchmethod error, When I tried to run the program I made using Java ILoveJava.
Is their any other problem like a conflict of some sort that could be causing this problem?
Could the problem be anything besides the ClassPath and Path Settings?
Please, help me? I really, really, need to learn Java. Thank You.
    Java -Version
    Java Version 1.4.2.
    Windows XP

    Hi all,
Sylonious, did you manage to sort this problem out? I have been experiencing similar problems. I think my problem was because I had many different versions of JDKs. I have done a complete re-install. I would be really grateful to you (and anyone else) for help with this problem.
I have re-installed JSDK1.4.2_03, set the "path" variable to "C:\JSDK1.4.2_03".
When I compile using "javac" I get an error saying "javac" is not recognised.
When I compile using "C:\j2sdk1.4.2_03\bin\javac Freq.java" no error is thrown.
Every time I try to run a java file, I always get the NoClassDefFound error. When run with the -verbose option, files are loaded from C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_03\bin - is this correct?
I have removed all previous references to java in the registry editor.
    Please help !

  • Administrator problems installing 3rd part software

I have an iMac G5 running Mac OSX (10.5.2). I have installed some third party photo software (Olympus Master 2). If I try and update this software or the software for the connected Olympus camera from inside the software, it keeps giving me the following error: "To use this function administrator privileges are required. Log on as an administrator". I am the only administrator on this computer, and I am logged on, so I do not understand the problem. I have reconfirmed I have admin privileges. All other software on this computer generally asks for my admin password when I update it and everything is ok. Am I forgetting something? Does this look like an Apple problem or with Olympus software. Is there a work around?
    Thanks
    --bbarclay

    Hi BBarclay-
Greetings and welcome to the Apple boards
I am not so sure that software is compatible with 10.5.x. Does Olympus have anything on their site referencing this?
If you use iPhoto you probably won't need Olympus Master 2.

  • Problems installing third party software on Mountain Lion.

I received message "Your security preferences allow installation of only apps from the Mac App Store and identified developers."  Where is this security setting so I can change it to be able to install third party software? "
    Thank you in advance.

Open the Security & Privacy preferences. Click on the General tab. At the bottom you will find your Gatekeeper settings. Click on the lock icon and authenticate so you can change the selection. If software does not have a developer's signature in it then the software will not be installed until you change the selection to "Anywhere."

  • Problems Installing Envy D410 Software on my Macbook - OX Lion 7.5

    Hello @Hilsalive,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! I see you are trying to install your HP Envy 100 to your MacBook running the Lion 10.7.7 Operating system, you are using the HP Printer Installer Wizard however you keep getting an error. The reason this is happening is because the HP Printer Installer Wizard was designed for Windows users, it is not compatible with the Mac.
Please go ahead and complete the steps listed below to get started:
    Scrub/ Uninstall
    • Open the Applications folder > HP or Hewlett Packard folder > HP Uninstaller
    • Click continue, click on one of the printers in the list.
    • * Only do this step if you do not have any other HP Printers. Hold down Control, Option and Command, While holding the three buttons down,
    • Click uninstall.
    Reset Printing System
    1. Click the Apple icon (   ), and then click System Preferences.
    2. In the Hardware section, click Print & Fax/Scan. The Print & Fax/Scan  dialog box opens.
    3. Right-click (or  Ctrl  +click) in the left panel, and then click Reset printing system…
    4. Click OK to confirm the reset.
    5. Type the correct Name and Password.
    6. Click OK to reset the printing system. The Print & Fax dialog box shows no printer selected
Note: This will remove all printers in the print and Fax/Scan, any printer removed can be re-added later by clicking the plus (+) symbol..
    Repair Disk Permissions
1.On the Dock, click Applications, and then click Utilities.
    2.Double-click Disk Utility.
3.Highlight your hard drive/partition on the left (by default this is "Macintosh HD").
4.Click the Repair Disk Permissions button at the bottom of the window.
5.Once the repair is complete, restart the computer.
Restart the printer. Now you can download and install the printer software and install it. Click on the link below to begin the download and follow the on screen instructions:
HP Full Feature Software and Drivers - OS X v10.7 Lion
I hope this helps, please let me know the outcome!

  • Problems installing CS6 with software disc

I just purchased the student/teacher version of CS6 extended and when I insert the disc to install the software, nothing happens. I disabled my firewall and even tried to install it manually by going to setup, but no setup.exe file exists on the disc. I use windows. Please help!

attach a screenshot showing the main contents of your disc including file extensions.

  • Problem installing third party software

I have encountered an issue whereby on trying to install downloaded upgrades to third party software I am asked to insert a disk entitled with my user name. At first I put this down to dodgy software, but have now had the same issue with installing Adobe Acrobat Reader 9.0. The installation software appears to be something called iNosso.
Essentially the installation gets as far as stating "This software was successfully installed" but before coming up with the summary window comes up with:
*Please insert the "username" disc to*
    *continue installation.*
You have chosen to install software that requires this
    disc.
(username isn't actually shown what is shows is presumably the local name I have given to the computer).
No such disc exists and have tried the original installation discs for 10.5 but to no avail. I end up force quitting the installer but am concerned that by doing so I may corrrupt the installation and build up problems for myself going forward.
Has anyone else encountered this issue and if so is there a fix?
    Thanks in advance.

Allan, I had hoped not to have to go through the steps you suggest as one of the reasons for doing Migration Assistant was to avoid re-installing all my applications and all the relevant license information. Also note that my old apps are running fine it is just third party installers that appear to be the issue. As a test I ran the Apple installer loading some additional apps that came with the computer with no issues. I would also add that all my applications old and new appear to be running without issue. Indeed even those apps affected by this installation issue (incl Acrobat Reader 9.0) seem to run normally so it does appear to be an annoying glitch in the installation that simply stops the automatic completion of the process.
My nervousness however is that something more sinister is going on in the background that I am not aware of that may affect the performance of the computer going forward.
However from both yours and Barry's comments it would appear that this is not a common fault therefore is likely to be peculiar to the way I have set things up so in order to resolve I will have to try either re-installation of everything per Barry or a re-installation of apps as you suggest. Now I just need someone to find me the time!!
If anyone else has come across this issue before and found an easier resolution I would be eternally grateful. Thank you Allan and Barry for the speed of your responses and your suggestions.

  • Problem Installing QuickVerse Bible Software

I just recently purchased Bible software from a company called QuickVerse. It is designed for a mac, but I can't get my computer to even recognize that the disc is being inserted. I have tried another cd-rom with tech tool on it and it read and and found it fine. I havn't had any other problems with cd's or dvd's. I own a macook pro with a 2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo Processor running Mac OSX 10.4.8. If you have any suggestions it would be helpful.

Thanks for your help. I returned the cd and went with a different software company. This was the second cd I had recieved from quickverse and recieved no help from their tech support after countless attempts to contact them. I would not recommend this software to any mac users.

  • Having a problem installing Quicktime/itunes software can't control where it's going to download

so i'm trying to load quicktime/itunes software on my Win7 laptop. had it on the same laptop but with vista. i can not control where the software is being downloaded too. Trying to send to my external drive labeled originally F: somehow it got changed to I:. The package doesn't recognize the label F: and says there's not enough space. I have 410gbs free! The package doesn't give me the option to change where i want to send it. Can't DL bonjour for the same reason. Safari 5 wasn't a problem. So what's the verdict, y'all? I can't update my itouch, which i'm sure sorely needs it.
    Thanks in advance
    Nagoosh

ok so after days of trying I finally got it to work...
    here's what I did.
    1. Uninstall old versions of iTunes. Reboot.
    2. Uninstall old versions of Quicktime. Reboot.
    3. go in and remove any left over traces of QT or iTunes from hard drive
    4. Remove temp files related to itunes or quicktime. Reboot.
    5. Uninstall audio driver for audigy 2 (WDM)
    6. Install new version of iTunes
    7. reinstall drivers for audio
    8. reboot
    9. check audio drivers (for some reasons even though I reinstalled it didn't come back as the right one after the restart and was listed as disabled) update the driver.
    10. Reboot again
    11. now things should work again.
2 quick notes... Make sure to save a backup copy of your itunes library.itl and your itunes music library.xml so you can system restore back and have the old version work, just in case.
now I Can't be sure... but I assume something like step 9 was happening and not showing up that way in my drivers... although that doesn't explain why uninstalling and fresh installing after installation didn't fix it earlier. but it works now and I'm thrilled.

  • HT5287 Problems installing DVD Sharing Software

Hi! I have an iMac and a Mac Book Aire. Y dowloaded in the iMac from the link above the software but when I'm going to install it a message tells me that it can be installed because is from an unknown source. How can I fix this??? Thanks!!!

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
You don't have to install any update to use Remote Disc with your Mac. You only have to install the DVD Sharing update if you are running Mac OS X 10.4.11, but your iMac is using OS X 10.8.2, so you don't need it. Follow the steps of the link to use Remote Disc with your computers

  • Problem installing used fcp software

    Hi.
I bought a used Final Cut Studio 1.0.1 Academic Version package, and when I try to install it, after I type in the name, organization, and serial number, I get an error message that reads that the program won't copy to disk because of a licensing error. I've tried using my name, as well as the name of the guy I bought the software from. After the error message, I then have the option to download the software, but once downloaded it won't open, presumbably because of this licensing issue. I called Apple who assured me we are legal and that I can use the software, but I couldn't get info on how to get over this licensing error issue. Any help out there??

This is your first post so try not to take anything said here personally. We see similar posts often.
Look at your inquiry from our point of view: The license agreement for the academic versions is crystal clear on many items including ownership transfer and upgrade pathways. We have no way of knowing if your position or ownership is legitimate. You gotta admit, it sounds kinda fishy. So, if Apple couldn't help you, why do you think WE can?
