Problem installing on a Mac iBook G3

Tried installing AL on an older Apple iBook G3 and the video is all screwed up. It only shows half the desktop and t he desktop itself is split in two. Any way to fix this? Thanks.

  • Problem installing Silverlight on Mac running Yosemite 10.10.2

I've been using a streaming service successfully last year and re-signed up today.  When I tried to pick a video I was presented with a window indicating I needed to install silverlight and it provided a link.  To make a long story short I've tried
installing silverlight (using the stream service's link which was the Microsoft download page) and using it with Firefox and Safari and get to response from the streaming site.  Checking Activity Monitor  all that appears installed is Silverlight
preferences.  When I click on 'Microsoft Silverlight.app all it shows is a 52 bit alias. Each subsequent install I first removed EVERY file related to silverlight.  I'm stumped.  Thanks.

I have zapped the PRAM and reset-all/reset-nvram/set-defaults in the open firmware screen, and still get the same error when trying to boot the Panther CD for install, I'm all out of ideas and badly need panther installed for some programs. The one thing I have not tried is updating the firmware but I'm not sure if I have the most recent or not.

There is no firmware update required for your iBook model. It is possible there is a hardware problem - bad RAM for example or a logic board problem.
Are you starting up the installer from the Installer icon on the CD or are you using the "C" key to boot from the disc? If you are doing the former, then try the latter. Also disconnect all peripherals (if any), be sure the battery is installed, and you are running off the AC Adapter.
If you still have no success (truly strange) you can connect the iBook to one of your other computers via Firewire and install using Target Disk Mode or if you have Panther installed on another computer simply clone it over TDM.

  • Problems installing Panther on G3 ibook

I recently bought panther off ebay to install on my 3 year old ibook G3 [700mhz, 640 RAM, 30g HD]. I am currently running 10.2.8 without problems.
During the installation process I got the message 'An error has occured during installation' 'Please try to reinstall' I've tried to install, in various ways, 5-7 times at this point with no luck.
I've tried upgrading, I've tried erasing the HD and installing, I've tried only installing/upgrading the necessary componets to run the system, all of which have ended in the same error message. The error occurs during the 'Preparing Base System Part 2' part of the installation process [somewhere around 4 minutes remaining].
I thought it was the discs I purchased, but I was able to install Panther on my external and boot the computer from there, so it seems the discs are good.
In my latest attempt I erased my HD and reinstalled 10.2 from my original disks, upgraded to the most current versions of everything through Software Update and tried the upgrade ... still getting the same error ...
Any suggestions of what might help?

    Hi Again SloMocean!
Unfortunately, those CDs will not work on your iBook.
They are CDs that were designated to be shipped with a specific iBook model.
Although you have an iBook, it may not be exactly the same as the model that those CDs were intended for.
More info here Tip: Mac OS X Install CDs/Use On Multiple Macs.
You need a Full Retail Version of the Panther Install CDs, which can be purchased rather inexpensively, at some online Apple retailers, Amazon, eBay, etc.
They are no longer available directly from the "Apple Store", as "Tiger 10.4.x" is the most up to date OS.
You may find one on this eBay Search Results Page, but CAVEAT EMPTOR, as you have discovered!
If you do an expanded search on eBay, or Amazon, you will probably find more.
Once again, make sure the CDs that you purchase, look like THESE.
Once 10.3.x is installed, you can use the 10.3.9 Combo Update.
Shop Carefully, Read All Documentation, and Good Luck!

  • I'm having problems installing fonts in MAC

I have downloaded a free font.. is a .ttf file.. i double click the file the
i click on INSTALL FONT (instalar tipo de letra) and then this windows appear
but the new font is not there... i have search the font in the folder [User]/library/font
and the new font is there when i double click appears the first windows again asking to install the font.
I have installed many fonts before and i had no problem.. i dont understand why now i cant install any font..
i think could be a problem with some permissions or something like that.
Does anybody knows how i can fix this?

    3lii
Yes, I ran into the same problem.  Mine is a fairly old (3 or 4 years) Mac Book, and I'm guessing that it came this way from the factory.  I don't think I have ever reformatted this hard drive.
And when I opened up Disk Utility, it was not immediately clear how to enable the journaling, as Im used to selecting the pick list, and that was not budging.
But under File there is a Enable Journaling option, and if you select the partition in Disk Utility, that option should become black and selectable.
If you do that, then Journaling will start.
    Hope that helps.

  • Problem installing LR5 on mac os x mavericks

    Hi all
    Need help please
I have un Mavericks on Mac Book Pro system.
My processor is a Intel Core 2 duo
I try to install LR5 on this. Anyway problem to fix software for 3 weeks.
    Here my hard drive configuration.
Do you know this issue ? Which solution to access software ?
    Thanks everybody
    Aym.

Lightroom does not install on case-sensitive file systems.
The only official solution is to reformat your file system to be not-case sensitive and reinstall your computer from scratch.
The installation used to be possible but had some problems in the map module which could be fixed easily. Now Adobe have changed it so you cannot install the software at all, which is much worse.

  • Problems installing bootcamp on mac pro

    Hi guys,
i am trying to install bootcamp on my mac pro, however i only get as far as partitioning and this seems to take hours with no progress on the progress bar.
It just says 'status partioning disk'
i am only doing it with 32gb as recommended yet i've tried twice and thought something was wrong after leaving it for 2/3 hours and nothing happening
    is this normal?

While it makes sense to use the single drive in other Mac models, on Mac Pro.... I'd avoid using OS X and put it on another drive.
32GB isn't recommended, just that if you want to use FAT you have to.
Have you got a backup? have you run Disk Utility and Disk Warrior (or another 3rd party disk utility?).
Should take 1 minute unless it runs into a bad sector; can't alter partition table or other error; there really isn't enough or large enough contiguous free space to create 32GB.

  • Problem Installing CS on Mac Lion OS

I just upgraded to Mac Lion OS and can't install Creative Suite - I have CS2, CS3 Update and CS5 Update. I have to install CS2 to enable installing CS3/CS5 but CS2 is a powerPC app that Lion doesn't support. Is there a workaround for installing CS5 Update without having to install CS2 first?
Sorry - User malfunction - I didn't need CS2 installed on the system to allow installation of CS5 (that's how I'd always done it in the past - old habits...). Start installing CS5 (not CS2 which is the original qualifying product for the upgrades) and the CS5 installer will ask for the CS5 serial # then it will request the serial number of a qualifying product. It allowed CS3 but didn't have selection for CS2. The CS3 upgrade s/n was acceptable for installing CS5. After that, all of CS5 installed fine and all apps appear to be working correctly.

CS2 is not compatible with the Mac Lion. CS3 or later are compatible with Mac Lion but there are some known issue , please find the link for the same:- http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/known-issues-mac-os-10.html
Now to install the CS5 there is no need to install CS2 , CS3 , CS4 and so on , Just run the installation of CS5 and when asked for the previous version serial number put it in and your CS5 will be installed.

  • I found a fix for problems installing Air on Mac Lion OS

I had Air installed which I needed to run this porgram You Select it which needs adobe flash and Air to run.. The other day the program would not open up.
I tried a number of things could not get it to work. Deleted the program, and tried installing Air again, and Flash. Flash would install fine but not Air.
I searched the WEB and found a forum which said if You install Firefox web browser and run it while you install Air it will work.. I did and got Air and my Program installed fine.
I have no clue why that worked but it did.
    Craig

Thanks - this strange solution worked for me too.  Shaking my head, just as I thought Flash was safely killed, Air pops up as the next Weirdo app

  • WRT54GL causing bsod only when an Mac ibook g4 connects wirelessly.

    Hello all you tech gurus!
I consider myself a pretty adept pc user. I've built systems, installed wired and wireless networks, many kinds of peripherals, and so far, have not run into any problems I have not been able to figure out.
    Here is the situation:
I set up a wireless network for a friend using a WRT54GL router with a firmware version of 4.30.11. There are only 2 wired pc's connected to this router using c5 ethernet cabling. The first and main pc (which is the pc getting the bsod) is a Compaq Presario CQ5320Y running Win7 Home Premium 64-bit. The second pc connected by ethernet is an ancient home built system running XP Home. Both pc's work well in all regards, both internet and non-internet items. There is an Apple pc (don't know the model of this one) that is connected wirelessly with no problems. These 3 pc's can all be using the internet at the same time with no problems what-so-ever.
The problem arises when a Mac ibook G4 connects wirelessly to the network. When the ibook connects to the network wirelessly, it causes a bsod (error code 0x00000007)on the Compaq Presario within 10 minutes of the ibook connecting to the network.(yes, I've researched that error code and ruled out hardware problems on the Compaq. The Compaq can run for weeks on end without any bsod, it only bsod's when the ibook G4 connects to the network wirelessly.) IF the ibook G4 is connected to the network via an ethernet cable, there are NO PROBLEMS with the Compaq. The Compaq ONLY gets the bsod when the ibook G4 connects to the network wirelessly.
Sad to say, I have almost no experience with Apple pc's and I am not sure if this is a router configuration problem or a configuration problem on the ibook G4. Remember, there is an Apple desktop connected to the network wirelessly with NO PROBLEMS.
If anyone can point me in the correct direction in trying to fix this problem, I would greatly appreciate it.
    Many thanks!
    Chuck

Or you can assign a static IP address on the computer it self.
If it is a MAC computer then click on APPLE icon. Go to system preferences. Click on Network and select Ethernet. Go to Advanced settings and go to TCP/IP settings. Change the configuration to Manual and assign a static IP address to the computer.
If it is windows computer then open Network connections. Right click on Local area connection/ wireless network connection and go to properties. Click on Internet protocol TCP/IP properties. Assign a static IP address.

  • Problem installing Safari 4

I've tried installing Safari 4 and I get the following error:
"The Installer could not install some files in "/". Contact the software manufacturer for assistance."
I have tried installing through software update and I've also downloaded the Safari installer and tried to install that way. I have also had a problem installing JavaForMacOSX10.5Update4, with the same error.
I tried Disk Utility, thinking it was a permissions issue, but I get the error message:
    "First Aid Failed
Disk Utility stopped repairing permissions on "MACHD" because the following error was encountered:
The underlying task reported failure on exit."
Also, in the Disk Utility information area at the bottom of the window, the Mount Point just shows a "/". I'm not sure what that means but when I click on my other partition I get more directory info.
I didn't have a problem installing the latest Mac OS X update or any other updates. Any ideas on how I can fix this?

Make sure that you used the Repair Disk button & not either of the permissions buttons when running Disk Utility. (If it is grayed out, you either haven't started up from the DVD or haven't selected your startup volume on your internal hard drive from the list one the left.)
Also, the repair cannot give you the same error, since it doesn't install anything. I suggest that you try again, being careful to start up from the DVD, to select Disk Utility from the "Utilities" menu as soon as the menu bar appears at the top of the screen, to run the disk repair on your startup volume, & to take careful note of any errors that result.
If any of this doesn't match what you see when you try to use Disk Utility in this way, please describe what you do see.

    Hi Tommy,
Using install discs created for another computer is the problem. I suggest you get a stand alone install disc for Leopard and give that a try. I know it's a bummer since you have a perfectly good install disc but you can't take an install disc from a new computer and use it to update an older computer. As a matter of fact you would have problems using your install disc on the same type of computer if it didn't have the same build number. In the old days of Power Macs that wasn't an issue. You could take an install disc for one computer and update every Mac you owned. Sorry.
