I have the following problem when i try to install Oracle Database 10g Express Ed R2 on Windows 2003 Server Enterprise Ed.:
Error Number: 0x80040707
Description: DLL function call crashed: GetHostnameDll.GetHostname
Setup will now terminate.
please help me, thanks

Maybe it's a little late, but if it helps someone.
I have had the same problem and the cause was that the host name was too long.
I put a name shorter and the error has disappeared

Issues when Sharepoint Services 3.0 OS upgraded from windows server 2003 standard to windows server 2003 enterprise

In my sharepoint 2007, I have upgraded the OS from windows server 2003 standard to windows server 2003 enterprise R2 SP2. After the OS upgrade when I run the central admin it's showing this error "Microsoft Windows Sharepoint Services 3.0 Error 2908
error has occurred" screen shot below of the error.
Any help?

Not sure I can help. In general MS does NOT support the upgrade of the Underlying OS without re-installing SharePoint. Many of the prerequisites that were installed when SharePoint was installed are OS specific. You can either contact
Product Support and see if they can provide any assistance or re-install SharePoint from scratch and re-attach/migrate all the existing databases with content into the new system on the new OS.

Access Denied to report file on Windows Server 2003 Enterprise

Hi,
I have a deployment problem for which I am out of ideas. I have an ASP.NET web site deployed on a server running Windows Server 2003 R2, sp2. It makes extensive use of Crystal Reports, including both displaying them and e-mailing them to specified recipients as PDF files. It all works great.
Now I need to port the web site to a different server, running Windows Server 2003 Enterprise, sp1. The reports display fine as long as I am not trying to convert it to PDF for e-mailng. When it gets to the following line in my code:
MemoryStream memStream = (MemoryStream)rptDoc.ExportToStream(ExportFormatType.PortableDocFormat);
It reports the following error:
Access denied.Error in File JobDetails {DC64A5D3-9DD7-4E4C-90F5-A08731409B29}.rpt:
Access to report file denied. Another program may be using it.
I finally got it to work by granting Modify permission to Everyone for the c:\Windows\Temp folder. Obviously this is not a good practice. Granting Full Control to the IUSR_servername account did not solve the problem on Windows Server Enterprise, although it did the trick on R2.
So the question is, which account needs which permission to the Temp folder to enable the PDF to get written?

What ever account the app is running under will need read / write permissions on the temp folder. Your working server should be a good place to look to see how the premissions were set there. The same will apply to any other server(?).

Failed Windows Server 2003 Enterprise SP2 to Windows 2008 Enterprise OS Upgrade

Attempted to upgrade the OS on our Primary Domain Controller which is running Windows Server 2003 Enterprise with Service Pack 2 installed on a HP ProLiant DL360 G4P Server with 2GB of ram, 3.2 GHz Processor and 53.2 GB of free space on C. I took
the following steps prior to attempting upgrade.
1. Determined that Server meet the minmum requirements for upgrade.
2. Installed all Windows Updates.
3. Uninstalled McAfee Virus Scan Enterprise Application
4. Backed Up and Imaged Primary Domain Controller.
5. Tested Domain Replication to ensure Primary and Backup Domain Controllers were communicating with each other.
6. Set Domain Function Level at Windows Server 2003
7. Placed ADPREP folder on C:\ on Primary Domain Controller and ran "adprep /forestprep" and "adprep /domainprep" successfully
8. In the C:\Windowd\System32 renamed the WindowsPowerShell application folder to WindowPowerShell-Old, the application failed the Upgrade compatibility test.
Loaded the DVD: "Windows Server 2008 for Enterprise, Standard and Datacenter 32bit Edition", ran installation in upgrade mode to preserve existing settings and software.  The Ugrade ran to last step, application install and failed at
26% complete with the following errror message:
"Windows installation encountered an error and cannot continue. Your computer will now restart and your previous version of windows will be restored"
My questions are why did the upgrade fail? What can we do to ensure the upgrade will succeed next time?

Here are some limitation of upgrading:
Upgrading is supported from x86-based and x64-based computers, but cross-architecture upgrades are not supported.
Cross-language upgrades are not supported.
Upgrading from Windows Server 2003 to a Server Core installation of Windows Server 2008 is not supported.
We cannot upgrade the failover clusters from Windows Server 2003 to Windows Server 2008. Before upgrading, we must uninstall failover clustering.

Besides, to confirm that it isn't an IO issue, could you please try to copy the DVD to the local disk?

Do I need the /3gb switch on Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition

I have an Oracle 10g database running on a Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition with 16gb of RAM. Do I need to set the /3gb and or /PAE switch in the boot.ini file for Oracle to use this memory?

As you might know 32bit system has limitation of 4G max addressable memory issue. In Windows that's 2G limit because Windows reserve 2G for system. With /3G switch you can let Application address 3G with 1G for OS, if your system has more than 4G you need to use /PAE to address memory beyond 4G.
Of course if you don't plan to allocate more than 2G to Oracle SGA then don't need the settings.

Why Windows server 2003 enterprise edi is the recommended OS for Netweaver?

I am in a client discussion stage and the client is a huge enterprise going for SAP installation.
In order to implement SAP Netweaver 2004 S, the recommended OS is Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition?
I need to be equipped about the difference feature wise between Enterprise and Standard Edition.
Any kind of help is really appreciated.

as you might see, the standard edition of win2k3 only supports up to 4 gb of ram, 4 cpus and it seems that there will be not 64bit edition...so, these might be some reasons, why sap recommends the enterprise edition

As I read FMS 2 system requirement, it only support Microsoft
Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition (not mention 32 / 64-bit).

At this time, FMS is only officially supported on the 32 bit
version of Windows Server 2003.

Can WebObjects 5.2 or 5.2.4 installing on Windows Server 2003 ?

Regarding to the topic above, i tried to install completely, even tried also update to version 5.2.4, but i found that one of the services still fail in loading, open.exe
The error msg pop-out: " invoker error", and the log stated that openexec is hung in starting. Meanwhile, my suspicion on this happen might be that "open.exe" is NOT support on 64-bit of the Windows OS, which is Windows Server 2003 instead of Windows 2000, which only 32-bit.
So, any idea or solution to solve this matter?

I don't think that it is related to the windows server 2003 R2 because it is supported if it is a standard edition.

What is not supported is windows 2003 x64.
It is either you don't have R2 standard edition or the problem is something else. IMHO I think that ACS will be able to be instealled correclty with R2 enterprise edition as well.

Zdm won't install on Windows Server 2003

I'm having the exact problem outlined in TID10098058. I'm trying to install
Zen Desktop management on Windows Server 2003 with sp1 and the install is
failing due to the error 'Error: copying files to server. Be sure that no
ZENworks Desktop Management files are open or locked'
Edirectory was installed on C drive and not on any other drive. The only
thing that I can think of is that the server a virtual server hosted on
VMWARE ESX Server 2.5. Could this be the problem?

2007A SP01 PL10 not installing on Windows Server 2003 ?

Hi all:
Yesterday 2007A SP01 PL10 was released. Trying to keep our customer's installations current, I proceeded to try and install the patch on different systems. So far I was lucky with Windows XP and Windows Server 2008 trial installations. However, on all the Windows Server 2003 installations I have tried (OS patched completely), the COMMON database upgrade either closes without error message, or opens up a debug message with no error number or description after clicking the very first "Next" button in the installation program.
Has anybody seen the same effect anywhere? Has anybody been able to successfully install PL10 on a Windows Server 2003? Are there any known issues?

I got the same answer to my support call for my error messages. We are loading that patch and will attempt again. Ironically, I had looked at the same note, and even bookmarked it becuase of the slow 8.8 client upgrade thread, but I didn't think the two were related.
The note indicates only that SAP Business One does not start after patch file application.
"You might encounter one of the following situations after having applied a new SAP Business One patch file:
Your SAP Business One system fails to start after you have applied a new SAP Business One patch file that you downloaded from SAP Service Marketplace.
If you want to find out whether you are affected by this problem, refer to section "Detecting whether SAP will not start up due to missing MS patch" in the attached PDF document.
Your SAP Business One system runs fine but you did not apply the Microsoft security fix mentioned above. However, future downloads of SAP binaries from SAP Service Marketplace might not work (depending on release, etc.)."
If it is also affecting the installation of patches (i.e SAP runs fine, but you can't run a patch installer) the message should also indicate that so that people will know to use this fix in the future.
Hopefully I too will have a resolved issue. I'll post the results.

Install On Windows Server 2003

I download Oracle 9i release 2 for windows server 2003 from http://otn.oracle.com/software/products/oracle9i/htdocs/win2k3soft.html. After extracting the zip files I dont see an install files. The files that I downloaded look like they are for a patch. I have installed oracle clients for windows but have not done a full install yet. Any help would be great.

NO autorun folder like all of the other oracle installations I have done.
When I first unzip the downloaded file it makes a zip file named: 9203_nt_release_redo.zip and a Readme file about "Oracle 9i Release 2 Database Server Patch Set 2". After unziping the redo zip file it creates a Disk 1 folder that has the following folders: preinstall_rac, response, stage, and a file patch_note.htm.

I have a Windows Server 2003 installed on my laptop and need to install a Solaris 10 as well .Is it possbile to have both on my laptop?If so ,I put the first CD when booting the system but nothing came up .It heppened also when I wanted to install Fedora CORE 4 on my laptop to have 2 different OS's.

check your bios if the boot up priority options boots the CD first instead of the harddisk.
You should boot the CD ROM drive then the harddisk to detect any boot installation disc.

I had the old version of SpiceWorks working fine on Windows Server 2003 SP2 & thought of upgrading the version to 7.4. When i double click on the downloaded setup, the windows hour glass would show up for few seconds & nothing was happening. Thinking that this was due to old version, i uninstalled it completely & removed the installed directories. Even then i am unable to install the latest version & not finding the source for old version.
Please help.
