Problem installing Oracle 11i in Linux

I have been trying to install 11i in Redhat Linux. I followed the documentation provided by Oracle, by installing Java SDK 1.3, by creating stage area for installation. However, when I go to the selected directory u01/...../RapidWiz and type rapidwiz, I get the message "command not found". I checked the directory and there exists the command. (just to see if it works in Windows, I popped the first Cd and restarted on another machine.. it came back with all the welcome screen etc.,). Can someone help me... Pretty Please!!!!!!!!!

How can I install Oracle apps using downloaded Oracle Apps 11.5.10.2 files? All the files in .zip format. The 'Rapid Install Start Here - Disk 1' is composed of 7 separate zip files (1 of 7 ... 7 of 7). Do I need to unzip the the files and burn DVD-R's first to compile them by disk?
Is there another way?
Has anyone tried installing from downloaded install files?
Please help.

I am not oracle expert. I think the installation itselft was ok, but maybe the database
    does not start correctly.
    my configuration is like this:
    cat /etc/sysconfig/oracle-xe

thanks. I added my username to the dba group and also tried the oracle user.

    Hi,
I think that Feedbak forum is not the best place for this problem.
    You should ask this into
=> Installation Forum : Database Installation
    or
=> Linux Forum : Generic Linux
Anyway, you can find an install doc here :

    HI,
According to Oracle "Unix Installation/OS: RDBMS Technical Forum", it is not supported.
I am pasting the final answer from one of the Oracle Analyst: (Hope it is OK)
From: Oracle, Amit Podder 19-Aug-03 15:14
Subject: Re : Does oracle support 9.2.0.2.0 on Redhat 7.X or 8.0
    Hi,
AS of now Oracle Server - Enterprise Edition Version 9.2 is not certified on Red Hat 8.0.
The information on future plans is not published so we are unable to convey any info on the same.

  • Installing Oracle 9i on Linux Red Hat 7.2

I got the following error when installing Oracle 9i on Linux Red Hat 7.2:
Initializing Java Virtual Machine from /tmp/OraInstall/jre/bin/jre. Please wait...
jre was not found in /tmp/OraInstall/jre/bin/../bin/i586/green_threads/jre
Any ideas how to fix the problem?
    Thanks

Try installing 9i on RH 7.1. I don't believe 9i runs under 7.2 due to library incompatibilities.

Please also read the install documentation. This has been noted as a requirement for oracle-xe (you need one more lib ;) ) This also helps you setup your DB, etc, etc.

  • How can i install oracle 10g on linux cluster

    Dear all:
please advice How can i install oracle 10g on linux cluster service ..
    thanks ,,

Without RAC, you can only have one instance manage the database. One instance = one set of processes communicating via IPC.
Unless you know of a way to have processes use memory-based IPC across nodes, you need to pick a node and install & run the database software on that node.

    Hi there!
The first thing you should do if you get ANY (almost) error when
installing Oracle Server in RedHat Linux v6,0 is to read this
    document carefully: http://jordan.fortwayne.com/oracle/
After hours of struggle it finally worked for me :-)))))
Only two things to add here:
    1) If you want to be able to connect to the Linux server
(telnet) and running utilities like sqlplus locally on the
server, you should copy the ".profile" file to the users home
directory, add the user to the group "dba" AND make sure that
the $ORACLE_HOME directory has execute permissions for members
of the "dba" group (mine had default ONLY permission for the
    owner to execute).
    2) The file "listener.ora" was (for some reason) written
with "oracle_sid" where it really should say the real SID name
that is in my case "ORCL".
I just can't thank the guy who wrote the step-by-step
Installation guide for Oracle on RedHat Linux enough... THANK
    YOU!

  • Problems Installing Oracle 8i on Gateway laptop W/ 1.6 GHz CPU

I'm having problems installing Oracle 8i on a Gateway 600X with a 1.6 GHz CPU and Windows 2000 Professional. The Install/DeInstall screen appears, I click Install/Deinstall, the screen disappears, the hourglass disappears a couple seconds later, and the the install ends without any messages. I tried installing on slower machines and the software seems to install correctly. Is there an issue with Intel's new Mobile Pentium 4 processors or Gateway's laptops?
    Thanks,
    Mike

have a look in your $ORACLE_HOME/dbs directory. If the init<ORACLE_SID>.ora file has remote_login_password=exclusive then you should also have a file called orapw<ORACLE_SID>. If you haven't, then create one by running "orapwd file=orapw<ORACLE_SID> password=internal entries=5".
This has worked for me in the past, hope it helps.
