Problem installing Oracle 8.05 on Redhat Linux 7.1

I am currently trying to install Oracle 8.05 onto Redhat Linux 7.1. I can get part of the way through
the installation, however, when it is installing the rdbms portion. I stops with an error about a failure
during relinking. Here is the part of make.log which details what really happened. Could someone tell
me how to proceed.
Thank you,
Nicholas Waltham

  • Problem installing Oracle 9.2 on RedHat Linux 7.1 and 9.0

    Hi everyone,
As the subject line says, I tried installing Oracle 9.2 on
RedHat Linux 7.1 and 9.0, strictly following instructions
    written by Werner Puschitz
    (http://www.puschitz.com/InstallingOracle9i.shtml). Both
    attempts failed with identical symptoms:
    - the installer asks for Disk 2
    - after the disk is inserted, it hangs. It turns out that
kernel is writing messages similar to these in
    /var/log/messages:
    Jun 16 02:45:19 boston kernel: 16:00: rw=0, want=317696, limit=149920
Jun 16 02:45:19 boston kernel: attempt to access beyond end of device
Unless interrupted, this continues until the /tmp filesystem gets full.
Has anyone experienced this? I haven't been able to find
    an explanation so far.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Regards,
    Ljubomir Buturovic

Providing a thread-bare configuration of your machine on which you are trying to install Oracle on Linux (and mind you - which kernel/distro, coz that's important) would definitely help you elicit more responses to your messages.

  • Problems installing Oracle 8i EE on Redhat 6.2

    Hi
I am fairly new to Linux and this is the first time I have tried to install Oracle.
I have downloaded Oracle 8i Release 2 for Linux and decompressed it into the /home/oracle directory on my system.
I have read the html manual and followed all the instructions up to the stage where I have to run the runInstaller shell script.
When I try to run this on my system nothing happens at all. It makes no difference whether I run it in X windows or from the Bash shell. When I type ./runInstaller at the command prompt, it simply says file not found.
I opened the script up in a text editor and found out it made several settings before calling the runInstaller executable in the [product]/install/linux subdirectory. I tried to run this, but it comes up with a error message saying it can't find the JRE at [square symbol]/bin/jre
I have run all these programs as the oracle user as required. Please help me as I am at a complete loss.
    Many thanks,
    Owen Barnes

Did you unzip on a windows computer ? If so, that's why your scripts don't work. Winzip will screw up the scripts.

  • How can I install Oracle database 9i on Redhat linux with OFA

    Hello,
    From the Unix installation guide:
Note: The Oracle Universal Installer supports, but does not require, OFA. The preconfigured database included with the Database installation type of Oracle9i database is created under a single mount point and is, therefore, not OFA-compliant.
So my question is how to install dabase with OFA structure. I have read the DOCs for OFA, but I still can not understand. I mean, within Oracle Universal Installer, is there some option allow me to support OFA?
    Thanks a lot,
    Grace

Why IBM said that their 64-bit server can run both 32-bit and 64-bit application in the same time?Because the CPU itself is capable of running both: 32-bit and 64-bit.
In order to do so you need a 64-bit operating system to run 64-bit binaries.
If you use LPARs you can partition your pSeries to have multiple partitions each running a copy of AIX. So you can run 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems at the same time if needed.
But as already pointed out i recommend to use 64-bit because most 32-bit applications will run without problems.

  • Unable to install Oracle 9.0.1 on Linux RedHat

    Hi,
I am unable to install Oracle 9.0.1 on Linux RedHat, tried many times. While installing i get following errors-
"Error in invoking target install of makefile

"error in invoking target ioracle of makefile

"Error loading native library : libnjni.so"
Installation halts while configuring Net Confugration Assistant....
    Any workaround ???
    Thanks in advance.

There are many versions of RedHat. Your post indicates you are using one of them, but your post really does not give a hint as to which one. Funny thing is - different versions have different install requirements.
I really don't understand why operating system version is such a big secret. Especially since it is logically so critical to installation issue. Even when installing on Windows, the first questions is 'which Windows'.
You have, of course, followed the suggestions at http://www.puschitz.com and noted the errors and workarounds, have you not.
Especially about things like packages and versions.

  • Problem installing Oracle 9i on a Debian 64bits (LD_ASSUME_KERNEL)

    Hi,
I'm trying to install Oracle 9i on a Debian 64 bits server.
When I launch runInstaller, the installation process stops at 18% "copying naeet.o".
I had the same problem when I installed Oracle 9i on a RedHat 4, but I solved it by setting this env variable :
    export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4.1
But when I do this on Debian, I can't run any command anymore, I get this error :
ls: error while loading shared libraries: librt.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
I've been searching, but I can't find how to set LD_ASSUME_KERNEL without these side effects !
    Can anyone please help ?
    Thanks !

it seems to be very very hard to install Oracle 9i on Debian Etch, I found this on the net :
    > Is it possible to install Oracle 9i on Debian etch?
So far I have had no luck due libraries requirement.
    I appreciate any suggestions.Officially no.
Unofficially, you should be able to with a loooot of tweaking. The
secret is in the "compat" libraries. Basically Oracle is a binary
distribution and relies on gcc296 - not gcc3. You should also get your
own jdk install. Get 1.1.8 (yep - good old one) and use it to run the
installer. With Oracle9i there's no gurantee that the jdk in the
installer will run on your distro. Luckily you can override the jdk with
    your own.
If anyone knows a simple way to do it, I'd like to know, but I'd rather give up about this idea
It seems to be to tricky for my poor Linux knowledge

  • Help! to set up Oracle 9i RAC on Redhat Linux 8.0

    hello,
we are setting up Oracle 9i RAC on Redhat Linux 8.0.
The problem we are having is at the point of sharing the raw partition and mounting the raw partition via nfs.
so we have two dell systems called linuxa and linuxb.
the partitions are made on linuxa (/dev/hda6...) and the raw command is used to bind the raw partition to the device (raw /dev/raw/raw1 /dev/hda6)
now when i run the command to mount
(mount -tnfs linuxa:/dev/raw/raw1 /mnt) i am getting an error
i know this problem isn't directly related with oracle but the whole point in doing this is to install oracle 9i on a shared device between the two system.
i have looked online everywhere for documentation and haven't come up with anything.
Any help will be greatly appreciated!
    sara

I don't know that you can use nfs to share a raw partition. This also defeats the idea of the cluster - If a host dies, the disk storage must still be viewable from the other node.
The raw device must be viewable to both hosts. Oracle controls which host is writing to the disk at any instant.
Use the firewire method or use two scsi cards (terminated, with different scsi id's) to a SHARED scsi disk (unterminated).
This works, I have it running here on 2 PC's with Redhat 7.3. The SCSI disk sits in its own external box between the two PC's. NFS is not used at any stage.

    Hi,
This can be solved by adding following environment variable in
    .bash_profile
    LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.2.5
    export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL
After adding , just relogin as oracle user and run the installation. It will proceed without any problem. (If u get any linker error u need run the patch glibc2.1.3stubs.tar.gz file from OTN downloads).

  • Install oracle 8.1.7 on linux 9.0

I want to install oracle 8.1.7 on linux 9.0,but where I run ./Disk1/runInstaller,show a error like 'symbol errno, version GLIBC_2.0 not defined in file libc.so.6 where link time reference (libzip.so)

use rpm ,I discover my glibc's version is:glibc-2.3.2-11.9
    Who can help me?
    thank you.

    I have seen this before.
    Quick Fix:
The problem with files still named xxxxxO is caused by the install. Sometimes it
works to just copy the file in this case:
    $cp lsnrctlO lsnrctl
There are probably other files that were not renamed by the install:
Finally, the listener can run! yipee.. :)
It failed to run because there're some file 'missing'.
I told u before, lsnrctl didn't exist in my box. Well, I found that not only lnsrctl.
There're three more files needed to be renamed. So, total in the list are
    dbsnmp, lsnrctl, tnslsnr, and oratclsh.
All of them still have their odd xxxxO name (I should have known it from
    the start).
Once I copied all the file to their 'proper' name, the listener can start
successfully. (Though i think the listener need only lsnrctl and tnslsnr,
    i still renamed them all).
But I wonder, why does the installer not rename those files?
I found that those file were created normally during installation, until
    i run setup_stubs.sh.
Is there any bug on setup_stubs.sh? Why you didn't experience it as I did?
However, the most important things is, the database running well :)

How to install d2k release 6i on redhat linux version 7.3?

have you tried using open motif 2.1.30?
the open motif version that comes with the redhat 7.3 is 2.2 and is not compatible with 6i. Once I used open motif 2.1.30 it worked fine. The environment variable setting is very similar to any other unix version. Ensure that you are also intalling the latest patch (10) for 6i (fixed lots of problems).

According to http://www.linux1394.org/download.php you should not need any additional kernel module support. You may need to install the libraw1394 RPM packages, but you can get those from your distribution media or from ULN, if your are subscribed.
