Problem installing OS9 after OSX bugger up

Hey folks.
Ive got a G4 Tower that my brother got from his work. He wanted me to stick OSX on it which i did not realising you need to install the firmware update first. So ive tried to go reinstall OS9 on the drive in order to do this...herein lies the problem:
I havent seen my genuine OS9 discs for yonks, i have no idea where they are (plus they are the discs that came with my 400MHz iMac so they might not work anyhoo) so i opted for getting a copy through...questionable means. It all works fine, ive burnt the contents to a disc and can run the installer with no problems.
I connected the tower to my iBook using target mode and wiped the hard drive remotely using Disk Utility. There was no way i could use the drive otherwise, it just came up with the OSX boot screen then eventually the no entry sign. After wiping and reformatting the drive it comes up fine in target mode. I run the installer and it puts OS9 on the target disk with no problems, the installer finishes and everything. I went back into the the installer straight afterwards to confirm it worked and it said the version i had intalled was Z2-9.0.4 or something to that effect. When i restart the tower it comes up with the flashing folder that normally comes up when there is a system folder problem. I can access all the files on the drive when in target mode, but i cant boot up from the drive even though the OS installed with no problems.
Can anyone help with this problem, i know it was unethical to use a pirated copy but where else am i going to get a copy of OS9 these days?!

right update time:
i downloaded both of those updates (9.1/9.2.1) Went through the whole installation prcoess again starting with 9.0.4. That installed ok, straight afterwards i installed the 9.1 update. That had a small complaint about not being able to access a 'About Apple Script' file. It seemed like a non-core file so i just told it to carry on, which it did and it said the installer finished properly with no problems, and after checking in the installer app it said it had Z2-9.1 installed. Then i did the 9.2 update. Again it went smoothly, it had one hicup where it said something about a drive file not being right '-- Mac Help Guide.img' or something along those lines, again it seems like an unimportant file so i tell it to carry on. It comes up with a box saying something cannot be installed, i tell it to skip and it carries on. Eventually it finishes the installation, saying some software has not been installed, but it finishes none the less. Afterwards i go back into the installer and check to make sure it has worked and it says it has Z1-9.2.1 installed and when i went to install it again to make sure it asks if i want to remove/overwrite it or add more to it.
From this surely one would assertain that 9.2.1 has been installed on the machine. I went into the machine's system folder afterwards, looked up all the important files such as System, and it says that it is version Z1-9.2.1. HOWEVER when i go to restart the machine it comes up with the flashing question mark again. I dont get it! From accessing the machine through TD mode it says that it has 9.2.1 installed, if thats the case why isnt it loading the system folder properly?!

Hi recently bought snow leopard 10.6.3. Having problems installing. My i Mac has intel i3 and system 10.6.8 . After about 15mins the computer restarts but freezes with apple logo. Any ideas? thanks alan

Yes, 10.6.8 update was specifically to ease the Lion installation (apart from some security updates).
Juat log onto the App Store (Icon would be in the Dock by default) and find the download. If you're not already registered with App Store, you'll need credit card info to hand, and your Apple ID (the one you use to log in here or the iTunes Store if you use it).
You would only need the retail SL disc if you were running 10.5.8 (Leopard) or earlier.

  • Problems installing CS2 after uninstall

I am having a problem with CS2 after an uninstall. I recently got an error working with In-Design and it had me fix the problem of course I had to do a full uninstall and reinstall.
When I get to the auto install problem it will open than immediately close doing nothing. I have even tried to make a copy of the disc to the hard drive and install that way and it will get to the password part than stop to work.
I have also followed the manual removal instructions to remove all adobe programs.
Also tried the moving disc 1 and 2 to the hard drive mount them and run the install.
Nothing I have read so far works. Help please!

No to both I'm afraid. CS2 can't be used on a Mac running Yosemite. The only version of the Creative Suite that qualifies for an upgrade is CS5. Your options are to buy CS6 or subscribe to the Creative Cloud.

  • PLEASE help ...problems with Safari after  OSX 10.4.11

I am so , so frustrated. After trying to install the new osx, my safari will not open. A pop on the deck and nothing. I could not install the update either. I got an error message. I tried to reinstall 10.4.11 and still error.
I don't know much about my computer so please be very explicit...
I tried to call the tech support, but of course my 1 year expired and they will not talk until they get $$. Well I find that this is crap, since it seems after reading the postings that this is their doing. Anyway I ruined my Thanksgiving...CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP. I tried to read the posts, but not sure how to apply.

  • Problem instaling sp3 after rebooting

    Hi,
I've decided to install in my macbook pro windows xp sp3 to program with visual studio c++.
What I have done is, first of all, install windows xp sp2 using an original cd, instaling the drivers and boot camp 2.0. After that I install the actualitzation to bootcamp 2.1.
When I complete all these stuff I run the windows update, check if my windows copy is originaly and immidiately it tells to me to install sp3. I install it and when at the end of the instalation it force to me to reboot the system, so I do it. But when the system is loading for the first time after installing sp3 it gets stack in the loading image.
Do you know how can I solve that problem??
    Thanks a lot

Use the Repair feature in Programs -> Install/Uninstall seems to help some.
I get the sense that reinstalling BC 2.1 after SP3 install is necessary. Or don't install until SP3 (maybe uninstall BC 2.1, then upgrade to XP SP3, then install 2.1 again).

  • Problem install Jdev on OSX Mountain Lion, please advice

    Hi all,
I have been trying to install JDeveloper Suite 121200 on my MacBook Air running OSX 10.8.5 Mountain Lion for a couple of days but have not succeeded.
I have read every install guide I've been able to find, but still haven't been able to make it work.
Does anybody have any advice for me, I really need to install this to be able to do the assignments we get from school.
    Thanks in advance,
    Kristoffer

    Hi,
just installed the same yesterday with no problem. Make sure you download the Generic Installer (aka the JAR installer). Then install Java 7 to your MAC and ensure its the default Java version (type java -version on the terminal). Then call java -jar <jdeveloper install file name>.jar from the directory you copied the downloaded files to (by default this is called "Download"). Wait for the installer to pop up (may take a minute) and then install JDeveloper. The install directory then has a JDeveloper / JDev folder that contain the start icon to use for starting the IDE

  • How to install OS9 in OSX with OS9 disk?

I just got a G4 with OSX installed and no disks I want to load OS9 for classic support with the OS9 disk I own. Do I need to do anything special to install? All the forums mention the OSX disk which wasn't included in the purchase I made. I don't suppose I could just copy the os9 system folder from my old computer and place it where it belongs in OSX ? Thanks for the help. CJ

    CJ:
Welcome to Apple Discussions.I don't suppose I could just copy the os9 system folder from my old computer and place it where it belongs in OSX ?Yes, you may. Andrew is right. I have done it many times and it works perfectly. The beauty of doing this is that you don't have to do all the updates that you would have to do if you installed from disk.
The only concern I would have is whether Mac OS 9 drivers were installed when the disk was formatted for OS X. If they weren't, OS 9 would not work no matter how you installed. They very well might have been installed, though as DU usually has it selected by default.
    Good luck.

  • Problem Installing Adobe After Effects

I've heard about the Adobe After Effects CS6. And I installed the Adobe Download Assistant. But every time I clicked on the button "download" button, an Error thing came up. I also tried to download the other software and they were just fine. Only the After Effects CS6 has a problem. The Error thing I received is the " Error communicating with Adobe.com (Error 107), it asked me to restart the Download Assistant and I restarted it a lot of times... But I still just can't install it. Hope someone could help me.

Which Internet service provider are you using?  Many users have posted about this but I have never been able to duplicate the behavior.  No one ever seems to respond back though with their ISP information.
Beyond that you can follow the steps listed at http://forums.adobe.com/thread/981369 to initiate a direct download.

  • Problems installing code after flash upgrade

I just upgraded a 2600 router from 8 MB flash to 16 MB flash (that came from a working 3600). I know for a fact that the firmware for the router with the upgrade is good - I was able to upgrade a different router with no problem. However, with the new flash, the transfer of the code errors out with
    File reception completed.
TFTP copy: operation terminated due to bad checksum comparison.
As best as I can tell, the flash is the same between the 2600 and 3600. Please let me know if anyone was able to successfuly do this. Thank you.

I tftp'd the image for the 2600 into the flash when it was installed in the 3600, stuck the flash into the 2600, and it boots.

  • Problems Installing CS3 after CS4 install.

About 3 weeks ago or so i downloaded the beta for Dreamweaver CS4. And just a couple of days ago i tried to reinstall Flash CS3 from my CS3 Master Suite and i got this message.
Component install failed. The original installation media has been moved or deleted. Please replace the media at its original location: C:\Documents and Settings\Lucas\Desktop\AdobeCS4\Dreamweaver CS4 Beta\payloads\AdobeALMAnchorService2-mul\AdobeALMAnchorServices2-mul.msi
Right now i am trying to uninstall the DW CS4 but has anyone ran into a problem like this or have any advise on how i can fix this?

    >SURELY that is implied?
Absolutely not! My guess is that the average user knows what "beta" means and the implication not to use it for real work, just in case. If they can take the time to warn you about that then they could at least let us know of potential problems in simply removing the damn thing. In fact, not so much removing it, I can live with it on my machine, it's the realization that it can seriously interfere with further installations - of their own software! If I remember correctly the beta release was displayed prominently on the Adobe homepage - "BE THE FIRST TO TRY IT!" or something similar, the implication, to my mind, is that it's safe to download.
With my fingers crossed, I hope that my upgrade to CS4 will be trouble free so it may not be a problem, but it obviously is to Lucas at the moment. I've downloaded numerous betas and removed them without any problem and assumed Dreamweaver CS4 would be the same. As I said, the average user thinks of the bugs being in the operation of the program. I now know that there's much more risk involved (with Adobe at least) and I'll be more cautious in the future.

  • Problems installing on mac osx 10.2

I'm having issues installing the latest version of flash
player on my mac which is running osx 10.2 - I can download the
file and run the installation program but it just hangs at the same
point every time - it will say on the screen - Items left to
install 4 - searching: macintosh HD - it just stays on this
forever. I have tried running the mac flash uninstall program but
every time i run it it does essentially the same thing just sits
there and never completes - anyone have any suggestions on
    something to try?

    Hi Christina_F,
Follow these steps and then try installing the application:
    1. In the Finder, choose "Go" from the menubar and then select "Utilities". A new Finder window should open.
    2. Locate and run Activity Monitor.
This will provide a listing of all running processes on your Mac.
    3. Look for ShellExtLoader in the list. Select it and quit the process.
Reinstall the software from the disc.
Do let us know if you continue to face issues installing.
    Thanks

  • Novice trying to re-install OS9

Last night i tried to install OS9 over OSX on a Power Mac G4. It seemed to install correctly but when i tried to remove the disc it says i cant because it contains the active system software. If I loaded it onto the hard drive shouldnt it be running off of that and not the disc anymore.
most of my applications wont work (i movie, i tunes, etc) it cant find the programs to open them. any help appreciated

    Hi, Jeff -
    Welcome to Apple's Discussions.
When you boot the machine to a CD in order to install software, the machine will still be booted to the CD (meaning the OS on the CD is running the machine) until you select a different boot volume and restart. The machine can not switch to use a different OS until it is restarted. As long as the OS on the CD is running the machine, the CD can not be removed (ejected).
It sounds like you may not have done that. If the CD is running OS 9, use the Startup Disk control panel (Apple menu > Control Panels > Startup Disk); if it is running OSX, use the Startup Disk control pane (Apple menu > System Preferences > Startup Disk). In Startup Disk select the OS on the hard drive that you wish to use for the next boot, then restart the machine.
most of my applications wont work (i movie, i tunes, etc) it cant find the programs to open them.
That's not unusual when the machine is booted to a CD (or DVD). The OS on such a disk (the one used to boot the machine from the disk, not the one installed by it) is not complete - it is sufficient to boot the machine and to run the installer program, but has a very limited assortment of other services (such as extensions in OS 9) available.

  • Bluetooth problem with MBP after installing 10.6.8

    hi there,
my one is a mbp mid 2010 model. i've bought it on this february and it was running like a charm. but from yesterday, the bluetooth stopped working. there is a thunder sign over the bluetooth icon and if i click on it, it says "bluetooth: not available".
i upgraded to 10.6.8 at 2/3 days ago, but after that upgrade i didn't check the bluetooth status, so i'm not sure if this problem is from the update or just a coincidence of having a hardware problem after getting the update.
i've spent 2 whole days looking for a solution of this problem and hav tried every possible solution provided on forums. i've tried restarting several times, resetting pram and smc, verifying and reparing disc permission etc........ but none of them works.
i hav a windows partition through bootcamp. i've reinstalled the windows today and there also, i cant find anything about bluetooth. i think, that is a clue for having a hardware issue. again, i've done apple hardware check (both of the short and the extended one) with both of the mac installation disk and the application disk, and none of them has shown any error. shouldn't it detect a hardware problem?
the bluetooth doesn't work also from the safe mood. in 'about this mac', at the place of bluetooth, it doesn't show any connected device.
i'm really confused here. i did not have this problem on 10.6.7. pls help me with it, as bluetooth is very essential for me, mostly for connecting on the internet.
    any help will be appriciated.

Just back everything up... pop the dvd in; erase the partition in disk utility and create a fresh install of Snow Leopard.... If it's not hardware related everything should work... Sometimes it's not the update itself but applications of various and diverse users that can cause the problems... It would be impossible for apple to know about all the various combinations of software that can cause these problems.... When in doubt... I back my stuff up and install a fresh copy... (ERASE THE PARTITION) not just install over mac osx again. But have you tried installing over your copy of osx yet? Its not like windows... you don't lose anything when you install OSX again... You only lose your data if you erase the partition!!
