Can't use profiler (Performance Analyzer) in Sun Studio 12, please help!!
Hi,
I've mandriva 2008 (linux), and I've installed Sun Studio 12.
At the first start of Sun Studio a message appear:
Warning - could not install some modules:
ATD Sun Studio Core - The module named com.sun.tools.swdev.toolscommon was needed and not found.
dbx Debugger UI - The module named com.sun.tools.swdev.toolscommon was needed and not found.
ATD Performance Analyzer Actions - The module named com.sun.forte.st.mpmt/1 was needed and not found.
ATD Performance Analyzer Actions - The module named com.sun.tools.swdev.toolscommon was needed and not found.
All other modules works correctly, but unfortunately I need the profiler (performance analyzer) because I want to speed up my C++ code. What can I do???
Please help!
NOTE:
I've added to my .bash_profile this lines:
PATH=/opt/sun/sunstudio12/bin:$PATH
export PATH
PATH=/opt/sun/sunstudio12/man/:$PATH
export PATH
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/opt/sun/sunstudio12/prod/lib
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH
but unfortunately this don't solve the problem....
Edited by: MLX82 on Feb 1, 2008 11:24 PMIf I type `uname -p` this message appear:
[mlx@localhost ~]$ `uname -p`
bash: Intel(R): command not foundIf I type: --userdir won't work as you can see:
sunstudio --userdir /home/mlx/.sunstudio/12.0-Linux-Intel\(R\)\ Pentium\(R\)\ M\ processor\ 1.73GHz/I get an 426 line error (but this is the correct location, as man of sunstudio say), while if I type for example:
sunstudio --userdir /home/mlx/error 426 disappears, but I get anyway the error on the module:
Warning - could not install some modules:
ATD Performance Analyzer Actions - The module named com.sun.forte.st.mpmt/1 was needed and not found.
ATD Performance Analyzer Actions - The module named com.sun.tools.swdev.toolscommon was needed and not found.
dbx Debugger UI - The module named com.sun.tools.swdev.toolscommon was needed and not found.
ATD Sun Studio Core - The module named com.sun.tools.swdev.toolscommon was needed and not found.On the other hand I've searched the "id" exe and it is in /bin:
[mlx@localhost ~]$ id
uid=500(mlx) gid=500(mlx) gruppi=500(mlx)so I've created a sym link:
cd /usr/bin
ln -s /bin/id ./idbut when I start Sun Studio 12 I get again the error on the module.
So I've tryed to reinstall everything (yes, also OS) but it (partially) solves only the problem installing with batch_installer. Infact now I can use batch_installer but at the end of installation it say:
[root@localhost tmp]# ./batch_installer --accept-sla
Installation failed: cleanup successful.Anyway SunStudio 12 still works, but the main problem about the module of performance analyzer is still here...
how can I solve this? Please help!

Problem installing Sun ONE Studio 4 update 1, Community Edition
I recently downloaded the Sun ONE Studio 4 update 1, Community Edition and tried to install it. At one point it searches for a valid JAVA 2 SDK. This seems to go on forever. I quit after 5 hours of waiting. I already have Java 2 standard edition v1.4.1 installed. Can someone please help?
Well thanks Chuck!
With a bit of messing around and a LOT of patience I finally installed Sun ONE Studio update 1 on my laptop pc, running Windows ME.
The trick was (I think) to apply both of the above fixes, but also a couple of things that was not quite as evident.
1 - Do NOT install the SDK in "C:\Program Files\" or any directory path that contains spaces in the name! Apparently that causes problems, and is noted in one of the Knowledge Base articles.
2- When making the file noted in the Knowledge Base:
( http://forte.sun.com/cgi-bin/WebX?[email protected]@.ee815f4 )
- It says: Contents of this new file should be:.
jh=<jdk Home Path> (for example, jh=c:\j2sdk1.4.0_01)
Well it does NOT mention that there should be 2 lines in that file!
Make sure you include a carriage return and a second "blank" line!
OK, that's it. GO ahead & loose yourself in the IDE.
I hope this does not cause undue traffic in the forums but what the heck...

Help needed with evaluating Sun Studio Creator
I am evaluating Sun Studio Creator as a platform for developing JSF applications. I really like its WYSIWYG editor, but strugging with how I would fit it in my environment. I currently use a Maven generated EJB layer running on JBoss.
1) Ideally I would like to package my EJBs and WAR into one EAR and deploy it on JBoss. Is this possible through the IDE? I would still like to keep my Maven scripts for building the EJB layer (basically I like Maven lot more than Ant and I am not willing to give up its functionality). How would I go about doing EJB development using Maven in parallel with front-end development using JSC?
2) Does Sun Studio Creator somehow lock me into its framework? I see that the code it generates uses custom tags such as the Web UI tags. I have not seen any good documentation justifying why I should be using these custom tag libraries and framework - giving up my freedom to experiment with other approaches. For that matter, I was not able to find a "user guide" on the tag libraries at all - only the javadocs, which are more like reference material. Can someone point me in the right direction?
3) If I wanted to use just the standard components specified in the JSF specification, which tool bars should I limit myself to? The "Standard" toolbar? Also does it mean that I will need to manually rip out the auto-generated elements such as Web UI tags, framework specific backing beans etc. Would a "seasoned" JSC user even think of using the tool in this way?
I would really appreciate any guidance you can give me on this topic.
Thanks.Before I forget, I want to pass on the following feedback from my evaluation. Hopefully some of these items can be addressed in the upcoming release. Please note that I am not a JSC power user, so some of the impressions were made during a very limited evaluation period.
1) It seems that JSC was designed to allow only the use of its framework/components such as the Web UI components etc. It seems pretty hard NOT to use the JSC framework/components and introduce other frameworks such as Tiles. I would prefer if JSC took a more flexible approach of also supporting other ways in which people may want to develop JSF applications.
2) Support for a robust page templating mechanism. I really don't know how to create large complex web sites without introducing something like Tiles.
3) Native support for Maven. I am sure people know the goodness of Maven and I should not have to list its advantages. It would be really nice if I can just point to a Maven pom.xml file and build my project, instead of messing around with Ant scripts. This would also mean supporting nested Maven projects.
4) Full support for packaging and deploying ear files. This means the ability to support EJB projects living side-by-side with Web projects.
5) It was not clear from the tutorials whether the databound controls work only with databases or can I bind them to in-memory objects. It would be good to allow binding to data transfer objects received from the middle-tier rather that going directly at the database. -

I'm working with some plug-ins from ESRI (the gis software company) for ArcGIS Server 9.2. I forgot that you have to add some lines to the server.policy file (located at:
/<install directory>/SunAppServer8/domains/creator/config/
The text you have to add is
grant {
permission java.util.logging.LoggingPermission "control","";
permission java.lang.RuntimePermission "*","read";
permission java.util.PropertyPermission "PEOBJEDITHOME","read,write";
permission java.util.PropertyPermission "ARCGIS_RELEASEALL_SHUTDOWN_HOOK","read,write";
permission java.util.PropertyPermission "ARCGIS_IUNKNOWN_VARIENT_OBJECTS","read,write";
So there you go. -
Installing Sun Studio 12 on Ubuntu 8.04
When I try to install Sun Studio 12 with the graphical installer, I get a message half was through that Java is not installed. In my case Sun's Java was already installed. I tell the Sun Studio installer to do the update and it finished what it was doing. After the install is done, I found that the Sun Studio executable is missing, so it looked like the installation did not work. What version of Java is Sun Studio expecting and does it need to be tied to a specific path? Is there a known method for installing Java for Sun Studio 12?
After this I uninstalled Java and Netbeans and started the system prep tool, which correctly said I was missing netbeans and java. I had the system prep tool install netbeans successfully but I get this message when trying to install java:
error: Failed dependencies:
glibc >= 2.1.2-11 is needed by jdk-1.5.0_09-fcs.i586

Any suggestions?I could not find any log files with error information from Express or Sun Studio 12. Any ideas?Not yet :-) Can you try to build and debug a sample project? Does it show the same problem?
I mean one of several sample projects, that are shipped with the Sun Studio IDE.
Start "sunstudio", from main menu: "File->New Project", select Samples->C/C++/Fortran->Welcome
Did you try to run compilers and other tools?
Please, make sure they work. For example, run the following commands:
cc -V
CC -V
f90 -V
collect -V
dbx -V
dmake -v
(Note: the last one is small "v") -
How to install sun studio 12 under Centos 5???
HI, all,
I am trying to install Sun Studio 12 into Centos 5. The followings are what I did:
1. Download sun studio 12 package by selecting Linex (x86) for Centos from web site and save this package under /var/tmp.
2. I used bzcat to unpack this package by:
bzcat < SunStudio12ml-linux-x86-200709-pkg.tar.bz2 | /bin/tar xvf -
3. I did prepare_system before installation by:
./prepare_system [-d /opt/sun/ ] [-R /var/tmp/ ] [-C | -s netbeans | java | patches | all_patches | jdk_patches | all | print_needed_steps ]
where [-d /opt/sun/ ] is the directory where all missing softwares will be installed, [-R /var/tmp/ ] is the directory where unpacked programs are saved.
After running prepare_system, the resposes are:
bash: -s: command not found
bash: patches: command not found
bash: all_patches: command not found
bash: all: command not found
bash: print_needed_steps: command not found
bash: jdk_patches: command not found
*Usage: gij [OPTION] ... CLASS [ARGS] ...*
to invoke CLASS.main, or
*gij -jar [OPTION] ... JARFILE [ARGS] ...*
to execute a jar file
*Try `gij --help' for more information.*
4. I started to use installer with command line to install the sun studio 12 by:
./installer -nodisplay
The result shows me some exceptions and installation is failed as:

I followed installation instructions to install sun studio 12 under Centos 5. I can not make it. However, I made it under Solaries system.
So, is there any special for Centos 5?
Hunter 3DHi,
Thank you for your helps.
According to your suggestions, I downloaded JDK 6 update 10 RC, specifical in Linux platform : self-extracting JDK file named:
jdk-6u10-bin-b28-linux-i586-21-jul-2008.bin
I saved downloading under the directory where sun studio is located.
I used
yum search jdk
to find jdk exists in Centos 5.2 shown as the message as:
[root@localhost sun]# yum search jdk

Installing Sun Studio 11 on Gentoo linux?
I have been having problems attempting to install Sun Studio 11 on Gentoo. I emerge'd "alien", with the hope that I could trick the installation program into using it, but that doesn't work. I get all kinds of java errors (I am using sun-jre-bin 1.5 update 3).
Is there a way to actually get these various and sundry .rpm packages on the system? There seem to be an awful lot of them.
Thanks!hi guys, i posted in another topic, i m sorry for that.
I followed your advice, bhut nothing helped.
