Problem joinning wireless networks (software bug?)

After the last software update (some 15 days ago), provided by Apple via download, my iPhone can not anymore connect to wireless networks. It always displays the message "Unable to join the network "....". I have gone to an Apple store and they reinstalled the basic system software but the problem was not solved. I think it may be a "bug" in this last software updating... How can I proceed?

I've tried all I could, but it isn't working yet... How can we demand Apple some attitude?
Call the Applecare support line in your local area.
Apple will continue ignoring this problem? We can see this bug (?) is affecting maybe some thousands of people...
Unles the thousands of people you can see call Apple, then nothing is likely to happen.
Can we users of this product take some active position to defend our customer rights? Apple will not give us at least some explanation? Apple is acting as it is not their responsibility!!!
Unless you call them, they are not likely to know - they don't read these forums, and millions of users don't have the problems you have.

When trying to access my wireless network, get a message "unable to join the network".  I tried turning everything off and back on, reset phone, etc. (all of the suggestions under troubleshooting guide).  It was working until last night - it suddenly wasn't on anymore and then I couldn't get back on.  Any suggestions?

1- try updating your phone (If you can)
    2- try reebooting
3- (I know this sounds crazy but) put it in the freezer for a few hours.

  • X201 running Windows 7 Home Premium problem with wireless network adaptor

my x201 shows that my wireless is on and my wireless network is available. it keeps trying to connect but is not able to hold a connection (continuously trying and failing). i'm on windows 7, 32 bit, home premium. i downloaded the latest update for the intel wireless today but it's still not working. any ideas?

    1) This could be a software problem, so try to uninstall the Wireless card software, and reinstall.
    2) If that fails, then try to do an OS reinstall.
    3) If OS reinstall fails, then it is a hardware problem, which most likely you need it replaced (if you are under warranty, then call the warranty support, if not then you can source a Lenovo branded wireless card for your machine).

  • HP 175nw Problems with Wireless Network Connection - Mac OS X 10.8.3

    Please help!
I have an HP 175nw, from one day to the next it decided it was no longer going to connect to the wirless connection.
    I run a Mac on 0S X 10.8.3.
I can't find the installation software (the whole software not just the driver) on the web and the CD is worthless b/c this is a Mac.
I installed the printer on my windows laptop and it works fine, it connected to the wireless network using the setting sets on my laptop, it now prints wireless no problem, but not with the Mac.
I have plugged the printer directly into the Mac but the Mac doesn't even seem to recognize it.  The printer shows up on my printer list but when I try to print or scan from it the Mac says the printer is offline.
I need this printer/scanner for work desperately,  Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

  • Problems seeing wireless networks

Hello, I am having some problems getting my room mates power book onto wireless networks. I created a wirelss network with my linksys router then when i look for the network under the airport signal icon i see no networks so I select to join "other" network and type in linksys (the ssid) and boom, i connect to the network . When I take the computer somewhere that I know there is an open wireless network it sees nothing, If I get the ssid of the network form another computer I can enter it in and the computer will connect to the network but it will never "see" any wireless networks???
any ideas how to fix this

One of the problems with WEP is that the actual standard relies on a 10 character HEX key for 40bit WEP and a 26 character HEX key for 128bit WEP.
In order to make things easier for people, vendors use certain algorithms to convert simple alphanumeric passwords (or passphrases) into HEX keys, thus enabling people to use simple memorable WEP password rather than lengthy HEX keys.
The problem is that different vendors use different algorithms to generate the HEX key and therefore a ASCII password on an AEBS will be hashed differently on a Netgear client and vice versa.
One thing is a 13 character 128 bit WEP password will be hashed by all vendors in the same way (if you use 40bit WEP then a 5 character password is required).
Though sometimes not even that works and the HEX key must be used regardless.

WEP is considered insecure, you should think about switching to WPA.

  • Where did "Join wireless network" go ?!

I've previously gotten my Time Capsule to work with the following setup: Cable Modem -> Ethernet Cable -> Airport Express -> Wireless network -> Time Capsule & MacBook Pr.
Yesterday I wanted to do some faster file copying to the Time Capsule so I connected it to my laptop by ethernet cable. For some reason I thought it was a good idea to set TC's wireless mode to "OFF".
Now I want to go back to my old setup but can't seem to get it to work. I've tried replicating all the same settings as before, but it just doesn't work.
The only difference in the setups i see is that what in Airport Utilitys Wireless page previously was "Join a wireless network" has disappeared and replaced by "Extend a wireless network". I'm guessing this is the problem.. Where did "Join a wireless network" go?

Thanks, but let me clarify. My Airport Express settings are the same as before and I don't want to change them since everything has worked fine. It's some solution to how to get the Time Capsule to join the existing network I'm loking for. Going through the default setup only results in Amber blinking and the Airport Utility not finding the Time Capsule wirelessly anymore..

  • Mac Pro "error joining wireless network", G5 and iBook OK?

Trying to connect to internet via wireless. The airport recognizes my WPA Personal password but still show "Error joining network", the airport bar is full but cannot connect to internet. The Network Panel says:
"Airport is connected to the network. Airport has a self-assigned IP address and may not be able to connect to the internet"
Here's my setup, every firmware is up-to-date:
Mac Pro 2.66Ghz Dual Core Intel Xeon
    OSX 10.4.10
    Linksys BEFW11S4 V.4 (firmware 1.52.02)
Airport Extreme card (update to 2007-003)
    In Network panel:
    Airport- Automatic
    TCP/IP- Using DHCP
    PPPoE- no click
    Appletalk- active
    Proxies- manually
    In Sharing panel:
    Firewall- On
    Internet Sharing- Off
I am 100% sure that the router is working because we have a G5 (10.4.1) and a iBook (10.4.9) in the house and there's no problem for both devices, both takes the password and connect to the wireless network no problem.
And one thing, when I go to the setup page of the router (192.168.1.1) and disable the WPA password security, the Mac Pro works perfectly. So whats the problem? It doesn't recognize the WPA?
Mac Pro 2.66Ghz Dual Core Intel Xeon Mac OS X (10.4.10)
Mac Pro 2.66Ghz Dual Core Intel Xeon   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

First question:  Is there a wireless card installed?  It was optional on a 3,1.
Go to System Preferences - Network and see if you have AirPort listed on the left. It also may be turned off which you can fix there.

  • Airport Time Capsule to join wireless network

    Hi there,
I just bought a new Airport Time Capsule 2 TB because my old one suddenly died. I just can't join my existing wlan network, it won't find it in the settings. I use a Macbook pro with the latest OS, a D Link router/modem AC1750, a Windows laptop and Iphone 6. All are connected to the D link router without problem but I can't get the Time capsule to work with it. Any help and advice would be appreciated!
    Thank you
    Michael

It used to be possible to configure the Time Capsule to "join" an existing wireless network, but Apple took away that feature several years ago when the Lion operating system was introduced.
The only exception to this would be if the Time Capsule is extending an existing network provided by another Apple router.
You will need to connect the Time Capsule to one of the Ethernet ports on your D-Link router using a permanent wired Ethernet cable connection, as the Setup Guide illustrates.

  • New TC problem seeing wireless network.

I can't join my TC to my wireless network ? Should it be as easy as plugging in, and picking up the wireless network or do I need to plug TC into the router via ethernet and configure?

Yes, you can join your wireless network. It's the execution that's the problem. Like any wireless device, your existing network won't allow just anything to join it unless you have all the details configured. That may mean plugging the TC via ethernet into the Mac to configure it. Try to follow the TC's setup instructions and re-post if you have a problem.

  • Time capsule, joined wireless network, no internet on LAN sockets

I have a problem, no internet access from the ethernet sockets on the Time Capsule.
    Here is my set-up:
I have a new wireless router from BT in the UK. A BT Home Hub 2.
This provides my internet access and a wireless network fine.
I have my TC connected to the wireless network using "join an existing wireless network".
I cannot reach the BT router to plug in an ethernet to the TC so need a wireless connection.
All is working fine, backing up etc....
But, If I plug into the ethernet sockets on the back of the TC I cannot connect to the internet.
I think the TC is using DHCP.
Anything I plug in cannot access the internet.
Is this a problem with the set-up I have made perhaps, as I have previously used the ethernet sockets when the TC was extending a wireless network in my past home and it worked fine, but I had an AEBS as the wireless router and a simple modem connected to the AEBS via ethernet.
So the only difference is the TC is joining a wireless network instead of extending one.
TC cannot extend the wireless network of the BT Home Hub 2.
Is there a way around this does anyone know?
    Thanks in advance!
    Gary.

Welcome to the discussion area, Gary!
I have a problem, no internet access from the ethernet sockets on the Time Capsule.
When the Time Capsule "joins" a wireless network, the routing functions within the device are disabled, so there is no signal present at the ethernet ports. In this type of configuration, the Time Capsule becomes in effect, simply a wireless backup device.
If you need to enable the ethernet ports on the Time Capsule on your network, your only option is to connect the Time Capsule to your main router using an ethernet connection. If it's not possible to run the cable, you might want to take a look at a pair of ethernet powerline adapters to accomplish the same task by using the AC wiring in your home to transmit the signal.

  • Time Capsule - Join Wireless Network - DHCP

So I have a Apple 1TB Time Capsule here. I have it joined to the wireless network that's existing using a Linksys WRT300n v1.1 as the router to the DSL line. The Time Capsule receives an IP address giving to it from the Linksys which is acting as a DHCP server. However, if I plug-in my printer or laptop to one of the Ethernet ports on the Time Capsule, they do not receive a DHCP address.
If I check the setup of the Time Capsule in the AirPort Utility, on the Internet tab, then Internet Connection tab, the Connection Sharing is set to "Off (Bridge Mode)", which seems like it should pass the DHCP request from the printer or laptop to the Linksys and receive an IP back, but that doesn't seem to happen. Not sure why, wondering if anyone else has a suggestion.
Also noticed that the Time Machine backups over the wireless are painfully slow. It took 12 hours to do a 2GB backup, no idea why, never been slow like this in the past before I was connected to the Linksys device.

I have a similar setup (1st Generation Time Capsule). The TC is wirelessly connected to a Linksys WRT610N Simultaneous Dual Band Router.
I have no problem seeing the TC on my network, or backing up to the TC. I however have a couple of devices in the same location as the TC in which I would like to connect via ethernet to the TC, but it is not assigning out an IP address via the wired connection(s).
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Trouble with internet connection when using extreme to join wireless network

I have an airport extreme that I want to use as an ethernet hub.  I have successfully connected it to my wireless modem, and I have a solid green light; however, when I connected the ethernet to my tv/computer/anything there is no internet connection.  I tried powering down everything in order and rebooting as appropriate modem then router then computer, but still not internet connection.  Any suggestions.

The AirPort Extreme does not provide any routing functions when it is configured to "join a wireless network", so the Ethernet ports are not active in this type of setup. The only thing that really functions is the USB port, which could be used for a remote printer or hard drive.
If you have another Apple "n" wireless router acting as your main base station, you can configure the AirPort Extreme to "extend a wireless network". The Ethernet ports are enabled in this type of setup....and the Extreme will provide more wireless coverage in the area where it is located.

  • Join wireless network

Ever since updating to 10.7 my Macbook Pro no longer automaticaally connects to my wireless network -- most of the time at least..... It does connect on some occassions but I can find no reason as to why it only works some of the time. Most complaints I've read about wirless and 10.7 involve losing connections and that happens rarely. But not joining the netwrok automatically is a real blunder Apple. This OS does not seem ready for Prime time.

I have the same issue. If you ever figured a way around this, please let me know.

  • Airport Express Join Wireless Network Disables Ethernet

I have one of the the older Airport Express (firmware 6.3) and I'm trying to use it to connect a non-wireless machine to an existing network.
Act as a single Wi-Fi interface to any computer or almost any other devices such as game consoles that has an Ethernet port but doesn't itself have built-in Wi-Fi
If I choose "join a wireless network" it appears to disable the ethenet port. Any ideas what I might be doing wrong.
    My Setup
ADSL Modem ------ Time Capsule ---[wireless-g]--- Airport Express ---[ethernet]---Computer

Unfortunately, the Ethernet port is disabled when you configure the older AirPort Express version that you have to "join a wireless network"
It can be enabled in the newer 802.11n version, which uses firmware 7.x.x.  Sorry, not possible up update the Express that you have since hardware changes were made in the 802.11n model.
