Problem - keep getting an intermittent connection (wired connection)

For the last few months our internet connection has been completely intermittent. Some days it will work perfectly fine all day long, other days like today it will disconnect / reconnect every 30 seconds - 5 minutes. I tried doing Live Chat several times and most of the times I can't even get through their questions before my net disconnects. One time I did manage to let them take over control of my computer to "fix" the problems, and at that given moment it worked. But literally as soon as the person disconnected from my computer my net died again.
Part of our setup uses Vonage, which means if the internet does not work our phone doesn't work. I hardly think Vonage is the problem because it works perfectly fine other days. Same goes with the Verizon people saying gaming can effect it which shouldn't be a problem either. I've tried to use my cell to call them but as soon as I go downstairs to mess with the modem / router my phone loses service.
It seems like this is a day to day problem. Last night my internet was perfectly fine, today it keeps disconnecting. Power cycles fix the problem for a few seconds to a few minutes, and letting it reset itself does the same thing. As i'm typing this post my internet has disconnected several times. I can't seem to figure out the problem and need some advice.

*All of that repeated SEVERAL times from 15:26 - 15:31*

SNR Margin (Downstream/Upstream):23/12
Attenuation (Downstream/Upstream):18/12
I think those are the numbers you are talking about. At this moment in time my internet is working fine today, but that doesn't mean by later today/tonight or tomorrow it will be acting the same. Since it's an ongoing problem I'd like to try and fix whatever may be causing it anyway.
I'll have to figure out how exactly our lines are configured before describing them, but i'll try and give you the entire setup of our network at least. So here it goes:
Our setup is in the basement:
Modem/Router - Actiontec GT704WG
No filter coming from main phone line to modem (Is this supposed to be filtered?)
Ethernet 1 -> Vonage -> Motorola VT2542-VD
-Phone line from Vonage goes to "Multi-line" box (I'm not sure if it is a filter itself..)
-From the multi-line 2 separate phone lines coming off with filters
-Those 2 connect into 2 possible filters, that connect into spiltters for the lines through the house.
House Phones:
-1st Floor - Kitchen phone is a regular phone (no filter)
-1st Floor - Living room has a 5.8GHz portable (no filter)
-1st Floor - Sun room has a portable set from the 5.8GHz
-2nd Floor - My room has a portable set from the 5.8GHz
-2nd Floor - Office has a regular phone (no filter)
-2nd Floor - Bedroom has 2 regular phones (no filters)
(I'm guessing the house phones don't need filters directly because they are already filtered?)
Ethernet 2 - My room, connection goes into a Linksys 10/100 5-port workgroup switch (model: EZXS55W). PS3, 360, and PC all wired connections to the switch.
Ethernet 3 - Brother's room, connection goes to his laptop (he doesn't use it wirelessly much in the house)
Ethernet 4 - Office room, connection goes to laptop (not used wirelessly either.)
Besides having an extremely complicated set of lines, I was wondering if the length of ALL the Ethernet and Phone lines matter? Also I read in the other topic that if they don't have Xbox / Playstation they should disable UPnP, and since I do, should i actually ENABLE it? I know that's un-related to my problem but if it makes online gaming connections better i'll do it. I used to have Static IP's for my PS3 / 360 / PC and "rules" setup that supposedly opened the Ports to make them better online but I didn't really notice any increased speeds when downloading off them or playing online.
If I need to provide more info please let me know. Or what should be the next step I take....

I keep getting an error message "cannot connect to the internet."  Is this a problem with my internet provider, or has anyone else had this problem.

I get that problem once in a while and I will not be able to connect to the Internet with any of the 5 or 6 (or 7 or 8 ) web browsers that I use on my iPad. The one thing that I do that has never failed to work for me is to close all apps on my iPad and reset the device. I can't guarantee that it will work for you, but this works for me every time I get the server failed to load/can't connect to the Internet message.... Or whatever the exact message is.
If you have a ton of apps in the multitasking display, it can take a while to close them all, so you could just trey resetting the iPad first and that might be all that you need to do.
Closing apps in iOS 7 works like this. Drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

hi i had the same problem today when i updated my itunes to latest version. however, i have just found my songs in the 'itunes media' folder. this was accessed through 'my music'  then keep clicking through until you find itunes media and all my library songs were in there and i then just added these files to my library and all were restored however, i have lost all my playlists but at least my 700 songs are back. very dissapointed with apple that they have let this happen with their latest update, the previous version was miles better than this one . hope you find them. stevo

    m1doc,
Are you migrating from a Mac or a MS Window machine? Either way you probably should be in touch with AppleCare, you have 90 days of free AppleCare telephone support. They can usually help on issues like this. If you don't know the phone number please use http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57 to help find the number in your country.

I keep getting the error 306 cannot connect to the iTunes Network when downloading songs on iTunes. I've tried all the troubleshooting steps from the forums and my technical issues are still unresolved. I have Windows 7. Please help!!

iTunes Store loads partially or returns "Error 306" or "Error 10054"
Proxies, parental control settings and software, security or filtering software, or a bad iTunes Store cache can cause this.
To address proxies, Remove Internet Options proxy settings  ( http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1490 ) and connect to the Internet without a proxy.
    To reset iTunes Store cache:
In iTunes, choose iTunes > Preferences (Mac) or Edit > Preferences (PC).
    Click the Advanced tab.
    Click the "Reset cache" button.
Click OK and see if the issue is resolved.
    Adjust Parental Controls in iTunes:
    Open iTunes.
    Access iTunes preferences:
On a Mac: From the iTunes menu, choose Preferences.
On a Windows PC: From the Edit menu, choose Preferences.
    Click the Parental Controls tab.
    Remove restrictions on Parental Controls.
For more information on parental controls or content filtering software, see iTunes 10.5 for Windows: May see performance issues and blank iTunes Store.

I use GarageBand 09 to record voice overs via the Podcasting then Female Narrator Noisy utility. I have a good quality external mic plugged in. I keep getting an intermittent clicking sound on the audio track. It's not the metronome as that is turned off. I have to edit out the clicking after recording. I can see the spikes on the waveline. Any ideas how I can prevent this happening?

Hi again and thanks so much for replying.
The 'mic jack' on the old mic is both wide and large, measuring about an inch and a quarter from the base (where it comes out of the black encasing) to the edge of the tip (sort of cone shaped). As I can't plug this in directly to any port in the back of the Mac, I thought it might be possible to to buy some sort of adapter so that I could plug in the jack at one end, with a USB connector at the other end to go straight into the Mac. But I see from your comment that you are suggesting a smaller jack itself (i.e., large size jack to small size jack and then plug in to the small round port, instead of jack to USB port)?
At the Mac shop I bought a USB adapter to connect up a second monitor (screen). I've just dug out the package and it's called a mini display port to VGA adapter. But back to the mic issue, I don't want to use the old mic really, I'm just trying to eliminate whether or not my usual mic, or its USB cable, is at fault and causing the clicking.
I looked on Amazon for a suitable adapter but there was mention of these little gadgets having a sound card. As the Mac obviously has its own internal sound card, I couldn't see the point of another (exernal) one, unless it was actually required to convert the sound from input to output (playback) or something. One review said sound quality was lost but the person had a problem with his speakers, not a ticking sound while playing back recordings - which is obviously my problem.
I do have a headset that I used to use for Skype. It has a pink and a green jack. I could plug one into the "headphones symbol' port and try recording again with Garageband. At least the jack is the right size. Again, this is just for the purpose of eliminating whether my good mic on a stand with the anti-popping sheild is at fault.
While my Mac does have both inbuilt speakers (I don't need external ones) and an inbuilt microphone, the latter is not of a high enough quality for voice overs, hence buying an external mic etc. But whatever is causing the clicking or ticking is obviously affecting the quality of my recordings. As you can imagine, it is very time-consuming to edit out the ticking spikes and if the noise appears during speech, you can't edit it out at all.
Please keep the suggestions coming. I am determined to get to the bottom of this for my sake and everyone else who is suffering from the same problem!

    HI,
From the Safari Menu Bar click Safari/Preferences then select the Appearance tab. Tick the box next to: Display images when the page opens.
If that box is already ticked, from the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset. Relaunch Safari. If you still have problems loading images, go here for trouble shooting 3rd party plugins or input managers which might be causing the problem. Safari: Add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
Web pages now include a small icon or 'favicon' which is visible in the address bar and next to bookmarks. These icons take up disk space and slow Safari down. It is possible to erase the icons from your computer and start fresh. *To delete Safari's icon cache using the Finder, open your user folder, navigate to ~/Library/Safari/ and move this file "webpageIcons.db to the Trash.*
Make sure Safari is not running in Rosetta. Right or control click the Safari icon in your Applications folder then click Get Info. In the Get Info window click the black disclosure triangle so it faces down. Where you see Open using Rosetta... make sure that is NOT selected.
If you still have problems, go to the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari/Preferences. Make note of all the preferences under each tab. Quit Safari. Now go to ~/Library/Preferences and move this file com.apple.safari.plist to the Desktop. Relaunch Safari. If it's a successful launch, then that .plist file needs to be moved to the Trash.

  • Actiontec MI424WR dropping wireless connection intermittently; wired connection works

I've had this router for about two years, with no issues.
Beginning on Saturday, our two laptops and phones began losing their connection to our wireless network, dropping the signal every 30 seconds or so.  I tested the wired connection by plugging the laptops directly into the router, and both computers functioned properly - no issues connecting or staying connected.  I have my Roku hard-wired to the router, and that also has had no issue, so it'd definitely a problem with the wireless signal to my devices.
Spoke to a CS rep, who had me first check the internet signal (green, blinking sporadically, which I was told indicated no issue with the connection), then had me reset the router and unplug.  No dice. She said the internet signal seemed fine, and that "everything looked good on her end", whatever that means.  They're sending a new router which I'll receive today or tomorrow, but I have trepidation.
Has anyone else had this issue?  I saw alot of router issues on the forums, but wasn't sure if everyone was having this specific problem (just wireless connect issues).
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

This turns out to be good advice. I changed the channel on my router settings to 11 (per an earlier post on a different thread), and I haven't had an issue since. Here's the original post: "01-21-2011 11:32 AM that type of problem doesn't sound like a router issue, but instead sounds like a wireless transmission issue. you may be able to resolve that fairly easily.. Try to change the wireless signal. you can do that in the router. open a browser, and go to http://192.168.1.1, user name is admin. and the password is most likely the serial number found on the service tag of your VZ router unless you changed it. Once you login successfully, go to the top and hit wireless, then on the left basic security. then go to option 3 which is channel 1, 6 and 11 and are the only channels you should try. So it will likely be set to auto, change it to 11 and put the check for keep settings even after reboot (Directly under the channel) and then hit apply., after you hit apply, test your connection out, if you notice a difference, leave it like that until the problem happens again, and if it happens again, go back into the router, and try channel 6, test it out. and then finally 1 if the first two don't work."
