Problem: Kt6 Delta, Barton XP3000 (333)

Dear all,
first, sorry for my possibly bad english.
A few days ago i recieved following Hardware:
Mainboard: "MSI KT6 Delta"
CPU: "AMD ATHLON 3000 BOXED" (BARTON)
GRAKA: "MSI FX5600-VTDR128"
RAM: "1 x 512 MB Corsair XMS3500 (2-2-2-6 T1)"
HDs: "2 x 120 GB, Barracuda SATA V, Seagate
SATA150, 7200 rpm, 8 MB Cache"
My Powersupply is this one: Enermax 460 Watt EG-465AX-VE
This should be more than enough
(http://www.enermax.com.tw/eg365ax-ve-fca.htm)
What happend:
After each reboot (Reset Button or on/off) System freeze at RAID Bios. D-LEDS "Green-Green-Green-RED" (Atempting to Boot) to get the system up again i have to reset the Bios settings via jumper JBAT1. After that of course i had to reconfigure the Bios again.
So, after a while, i got WinXP installed.
Reboot initialized by the OS worked most of the Time so i had an unstable OS.
CPU temperature at 55 Degrees, Main at 35 Degrees.
After a while when i tried to continue the installation the Mainboard couldnt initialize anymore at all. The Diagnostic LEDs said "RED-RED-RED-RED" (CPU damaged or wrong installed). I waited a few minutes than i tried again - and everything works fine after clearing Bios again of course.
I tried 3 different Powersupplies until i got the Enermax with no differnce behaviour.
Temperature is LOW. 55/35 Degrees.
Bios Settings: I tried: Save and Custom (FSB166)
The end of the Story is that the current status is:
RED-RED-RED-RED -> since yesterday.
I dont think i ll get it up again - so which part is the damaged Hardware? Any Hints?
I hope i wasnt too confusing ,
yours,
fne

THNX for the hint. But my current Status is that the Board does not initialise. The Diagnostic LEDs are RED-RED-RED-RED which means an CPU error. I have already changed the CPU. Mounted and cooled as shown in the guide. At the moment i see no other solution as send my Mainboard back. :(
greetings,
fne

  • MSI KT6 Delta and xp2600(333) cpu clock

I am new to this so thanks in advance to everyone. This may not be a pure overclocking issue but it seemed like a good active forum.
Just put together a kt6 delta lsr and xp2600(thoroughbred B 333 fsb machine). The 2600 according to AMD(and everything else I have seen) should be clock speed of 166 x 12.5 as the multiplier...so up to 2.088 GHz. The BIOS on this board doesn't separate the 12.5 from the 13(I hope there are others out there that have had this) as it is 12.5/13.
Now when I install and do the BIOS stuff if I pick the 'auto' selection I get BSOD with some cryptic error code. If I manually pick the 12.5/13 multiplier it doesn't work either. I have managed to get 163,164, 165 'auto' or 12.5/13 at times but it is not stable. Sisandra didn't like it at all.
I am currently settling for 166 or 167 x12 as this has been extremely stable and functional(3-4 hour video compressions have worked great). If I go any higher to 168-170 I have had some issues and not totally stable(not as bad as the 12.5/13 mulitplier I used with 163,164 etc).
Now since the 'manual' multiplier is 12.5/13 together does this mean by choosing 'auto' it uses the same one, it seems like it so hence it may be trying to push the 13 at which point the RAM or something may be causing errors. ??? ( just some thoughts as I attempt to reason)
Almost all my components are new except for the harddrives but can't imagine that has anything to do with it all. So basically I have a good cpu but can't utilize it to the fullest and have to 'overclock' just to get to where it should be operating. I can't seem to approach that either.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. If there are settings/setup that I forgot please just ask.
    Thanks.

    Thanks.
My temperatures seem fine. Low 40's. Even after 4-5 hours of video compression with the 167 x12 that I am using I only hit 43 or so.
I do wonder if anyone else out there as they same set up in terms of the same xp2600-333 chip and this motherboard. That choice of multipliers still seems odd.  I think I may have mentioned it but does the 'auto' use just 'select' from the choice of multiples that we can pick manually? Unless it creates its own multiple that must be the problem. Can it oscillate between the 12.5 and 13 and hence just screw things up?
    Thanks.

  • [POST problem] kt6 delta sr + athlon 2800+

    configuration:
    -athlon 2800+
    -kt6 delta sr and 2 x 512mega ddr 400mhz banks
-ati radeon 9700 pro (AIW shappire)
-PSU 400w (and the amperage meet the requirements)
    what i did already:
-The system doesn't post even if i clear the cmos.
-The 12v cpu connector is inserted.
-Trying everykind of permutation memory banks, memory slots, with 1 or 2 memory banks.
-changing my mobo with another kt6 delta sr
-changing my cpu with another athlon2800+
-changing my new ati radeon with my old video card (gforce2mx)
-powering on while hd/floppy/cd has connected/disconnected (every kind of permutation you can imagine)
    - powering on while singing "row hide"
    The best results i got:
-I was able to start the computer and just enter in the bios settings 4 times in 100 efforts.
-In the bios i was able to check the cpu temperature wich is stable on 39-42 degree after 40 minuts.
-In the bios i configured the value as suggested in this forum
-Anyway i put fsb to 166 and i tried to set cpu ratio both to auto or to 12.5/13
    Question:
anybody know if this mainboard has any jumper that force cpu ratio or fsb frequency or any other stuff? The manual doens't mention any of that kind of jumpers... but... i don't know whatever more i can consider to solve this mistery.
    Anybody can help me?
    -zenner

    Could your PSU be erraneous?
When possible, enter BIOS and select default parameters, I'd suggest. If you can get your configuration working just a little it is often easier to trouble shoot.
    Thank you for replying.
I think the cpu is seated correctly... i really don't know how to seat it uncorrectly
It wouldn't fit the cpu slot.
I don't know if it is a boxed AMD (how to check it) anyway i'm not using thermal past but just the heat pad.
The PSU is erraneous? Do you mean a faulty PSU or a miss placed power cable?
Anyway the PSU ha 5 days of life as i bought it for the new computer... i and asked "a psu that can manage an athlon 2800+ 2HD, 2CD and an ATI RADEON".
Looking at the paper on the PSU BOX, it should meet the amperage requirement for my situation.
I tried the bios default settings already: it doens't work
I also tried to manually configure the right setting: it doesn't work.

  • KT6 Delta stability and performance problems

    Hi all!
My brother and I recently assembled my new computer. Since then I’ve been experiencing two problems that really bug me. I’m no expert at this stuff so if you guys need more info from me to try to help, just say so!
    Problem 1:
The optimum setting for my processor is a CPU FSB Clock of 166 Mhz, but I’m only able to reach 160 Mhz. 161-163 will work but is extremely unstable. 164-166 will cause Windows to dump to a blue screen and reboot.
I’ve seen that other people on this board have had similar problems. Note that I’ve set CPU Ratio to Auto and SDRAM Timing to SPD. What could be causing the problem? Could a simple BIOS update help (I’m running the one that was delivered with the motherboard)? How about clearing CMOS?
    Problem 2:
Maybe due to the above problem, I’m also having stability problems when I do get into Windows. On some days it’s fine, other days it’s a mess.
All of a sudden, while surfing the net or gaming, the computer will dump to a blue screen with the info that Windows has been shut down to prevent further damage to the system. One of two error messages will be displayed:
“A thread tried to release a resource it did not own” (more common message) or “IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL” (less common).
The computer will then reboot automatically. It’s really hard to specify when this happens: it could come at any time.
The system I have is the following:
    KT6 Delta (MS-6590) motherboard
    AMD Athlon XP2500+ (1.833 Ghz)
    TwinMOS PC3200 DDR-DIMM (2x256Mb)
    Seagate Barracuda 80Gb S-ATA
My old IDE 12 Gb harddrive
    PowerColor Radeon 9800 Pro 128Mb
    TDK CD-RW (40x/10x/40x)
    Windows XP Professional with Sp1
Have any of you had similar problems? I appreciate any help I can get!!!
    Regards,
    Stefan

judd321: couldn't agree more! Thanx to all the people who post here and try to help out computer illiterate people like myself. Interesting to see that you've had the same problem.
Thought I'd give you an update on my situation. I've done some surfing and gotten some mixed messages. Some say that the included PSU that came with my Chenbro Gaming Bomb (FSP Group 350W, delivers 28A at +3,3V, 30A at +5v and 16A at 12V) is plenty to power a system with my specs. Others, like the good people on this board, claim that 350W just won't cut it.
I've just invested in an Aspire 520W (looks creepy and mod-ish). The dealer claimed that it really does deliver 520W at maximum performance and not just at peak. Before I install it I will try the following just to make sure it's the PSU that's causing me problems:
    1) Confirm that I still cannot boot up with CPU Clock at 166Mhz. If all is still the same, Windows won't even start. If I, by the grace of the good Lord, do get my system running at 166, I'll monitor unwanted reboots. If system is stable, fine. If no:
    2) I'll start by clearing CMOS, with battery and power cord out for at least 10 minutes. Then enter BIOS and run default settings EXCEPT CPU Clock which I'll set to 166Mhz. I'll try to reboot computer to see if this has done the trick. If yes, great. If no, I'll try the same thing but also set memory speed to 333. If that still doesn't work:
    3) Clear CMOS with power cord disconnected. Unplug unneccesary components like CD-ROM, fan (not heatsink  , floppy drive, any USB devices and my old IDE hard drive. Reboot the computer and set CPU Clock at 166. If the system works, it was definitely the PSU since the absence of the disconnected components will have allocated more power to the connected components. If it doesn't work...does anybody want to buy a pretty decent system that doesn't allow for full processor power and experiences frequent, unwanted reboots?
I'll let you know how things work out!

  • MSI KT6 Delta PROBLEM

    First, my hardware :
Everything running @ default speed & settings.
AMD XP 2700+ (running @ about 47C idle and about 55C in work)
MSI KT6 Delta (v2) with latest bios

    +12V 18A
    -12V 1.0A
    +3.3V 28.0A
    +5VSB 2.0A
I keep getting some strange BSOD. No matter what I do with the machine. Windows locks up completely and after about 1min, that BSOD comes and machine boots.
In normal usage, it comes about 1-3 times/day.
Mostly it comes when I copy some files from disk to other.
But it comes everytime when I try to decompress big (over 400mb) ZIP-files.
Everything did work with my old board, MSI KT4A. The problems begun when i changed the motherboard and added the Seagate S-ATA hdd.
I have ordered new memory, Kingston HyperX 512mb (333). Could it be memory-related or something with S-ATA ????
I have tried everything, latest BIOS, latest VIA4in1, memchecks etc...

I had the same problem on a differnt mobo and all I did to fix it was switch the IDE cables around on the devices.
    ?Give it a try?
It may be a jumper you forgot to change on  the IDE devices.

  • KT4V-L XP3000+Barton FSB 333 doesn't work

I have a problem with my above mentioned board.
I used the board with an XP2000+ and I had no problems. I decided to buy a new processor. An Athlon XP3000+Barton FSB 333. I bought also new memory ->    512 MB DDR 333/2700 and a new Power Supply.
The new CPU runs only if I set the FSB Clock in the BIOS to 133. He runs only as a XP2200+. That's clear. But If I set the Clock up to 166 the system stands still while booting Windows XP. All green LED's on the D-Bracket are green. But the systems crashes every time when I set the FSB Clock up to 166.
The board runs with the latest BIOS update.
    What going wrong?

    and a new Power Supply

  • Problem with KT6 Delta-LSR

    Hello
I bought MSI KT6 Delta-lsr today and haven't had it work yet.
Usually when I turn on the power only fans start to run and i get memory or processor error from d-bracket leds. Memory chips and processor should be ok since sometimes If I clear cmos and start pc, it seems to start fine and all leds are green but system will hang in winxp loading screen. Changing options in bios doesn't seem to do any good, usually boot after editing bios will cause again memory or processor error.
Any idea what is causing this problem?
    Specs.
Amd TB 1ghz -> too old for this mobo?
256mb seitec ddr 333 (also tested Twinmos memory chips)
    Msi kt6 delta-lsr
    Msi gf4 ti 4200
harddrives, cd, cd-rw, the usual stuff...

Thank you for moving this topic to right forum.
I was wondering if those memory chips just doesn't work with my processor.
Could someone explain me this fsb and ddr speed stuff? Not sure if my tb runs
with fsb 100 or fsb 133. Or does those setting even matter for ddr rams?
Manual says that if I have cpu speed 100 and 333 ddr it's not supported but 133 and 333 should work. Still pc sometimes seem to start up but freezes soon. So to me it seems memory and proccessor works.

  • Msi kt6 delta lsr temp problem?

i have just installed a msi kt6 delta lsr , but when i have ran the system a while the sys temp is around 40-42 c and the cpu temp is around 52c .
on my old mobo the temps never went above 35c for the cpu and 25c for the sys temp .
my specs for old mobo etc =
    AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2600+
    jetway v400db (kt400 chipset)
    400w psu
    ata133 80gb hd (maxtor)
    512 ddr333
    geforce fx5800 ultra
windows me (but same in win xp pro)
2 fans blowing air into case and 2 sucking air out
does anybody know a way to improve the temps please

Yippee! A ME user, like me! You know I guess MS support for W98 and ME has been prolonged til 2006? It has partly to do with Linux.
The temperature for the CPU is a little high, but not alarmingly so. Barton gets a little bit hotter on these boards, and I think it is the placing belovw the PSU that is the cause. The system temperature for you is no problem.
To get the warmth away from the CPU I suggest a fan placed in the case door/side, that sucks it out.
Perhaps you have not got such a case door? Then I suggest a quiet 80 mm fan on the back of the case as high as possible, again sucking air out in order to make a nice air flow. Another suggestion is to tie away cabling to the sides of the case as much as possible, power cables, IDE cables etc.

  • KT6 Delta-LSR...BIG problem

When I try and copy something from another computer in my network over the onboard networkcard, I get a BSOD: KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR
When I update my Windows XP PRo, my computer reboots after a while and usually windows\system32\ is corrupted, so Windows won't boot anymore...
Am I doing something wrong here??????
It's a fresh install of Windows XP Pro, I use the VIA SATA RAID controller and drivers which were with my motherboard.
There are no PCI cards in the system and only one hard drive (Maxtor 120GB 8mb SATA 7200rpm).
It's an AMD 3000+ Barton boxed with 512mb Apacer Ddram PC3200 (one memory module).
It's not bad memory, cause my father (same motherboard etc) has exact the same problems...

Well, it looks like VIA SATA controler doesn't like single drive.
    - I didn't succeed in having a working system using it and I turn to a PCI RAID controler from Silicon Image to be able to load succesfully windows and run it stable. ?(
    - Other user doesn't succeed too (see KT6-LSR installing windows on SATA thread) ?(  ?(
    - According to the last post on that thread, it seems MSI says it's working with single drive  ;(
Finally, I get the choice of 2 solutions : buy two drives and make them running RAID 0 or 1, or buy a KT6 Delta FIS2R and use the Promise SATA Controler.
To be sure, I bougth all of them. As soon as I'll receive these items, I will have a test and see. :D  :D  :D
Good luck in setting youd drive.

  • KT6 Delta MOBO Problem

Just what you need on New Years Eve!
I just purchased the following hardware to upgrade my current system.
    KT6 Delta MS-6590 (v2.X) TX Mainboard Version 2.0 G52-M6590XD Mobo
AMD Athelon XP 2600 with L2 Cache of 512 KB Quantispeed
PNY Technologies 256MB DIMM DDR 333 Mhz-184pins Memory OEM
    NVIDIA Sparkle GeForce4 MX 440-8X AGP8X 3D Graphic Accelerator
    Microsoft Internet Keyboard
    Current system is as follows.
    American Megatrends Inc. Mobo
    Intel Pentium III 550MHz
    128MB Ram Installed
    S3 Inc. Savage4 (Engineering Bit Flip) 1024 x 768 32-bit Video Resolution
    19GB Hard Disk
    Mitsumi CD-ROM FX4824TIB Max Read Speed 8467KB/s (48X)
    Windows 98 operating systems
Now your probably saying “Yeah so what…!”, well here is where the fun starts.
I went out to get some more memory and asked a member of staff at the store if the new memory would improve gaming on my PC. He explained that this would not resolve the problem and a new processor was the best option. Unfortunately due to the age of my motherboard he advised me to buy a new one along with a new graphics card and memory to boot along with the new Athelon.
I removed all old hardware, installed the new as per the manual and………nothing. Fan on the processor is working, as is the one in the box but apart from a LED light on the front nothing works. The D-Bracket 2 Connector:JLED1 has all four lights on which indicates that the processor is damaged or not installed properly. Re-installed but no joy still getting the same four lights. Is it really that simple…is my processor damaged or not installed properly? Find it hard to believe that anybody could install it wrong, as there is only one way to install it.
I also have two sets of Serial ATA Cables left over. One Black at both ends with Orange Cable and the other I presume is a power Cable (4 pins) connected via two black plugs using two black, a red and yellow wire. Also the audio lead for the CD ROM cannot be connected to the MOBO but I am told this is not a problem.
Now it’s at this point you hopefully will start asking me about jumpers. Could this be the problem? Or maybe my operating system does not support this motherboard. I tried to install the software that MSI supplied but it told me I needed windows SE etc.
As you can probable tell this is my first upgrade and maybe the Athelon is buggered and I will be knocking on the stores doors Friday morning, PC in hand asking them to have a look. But I don’t want to do that…I want to solve this on my own with a little help from you.
Just to prove I’m not a total fool I have reinstalled all the old hardware so I can obtain some help over the New Year using the old set up.
    Look forward to your advice
    RJL :^(

New system is up and running thanks to the new PSU and all your help. Noticed a few other people have had similar problems with the PSU. It shuts down now so quick that I don't have time to get my butt out of the seat.
The D-Bracket is still showing all 4 green, lights indicating that the operating system is booting. I presume this is ok?
I'm certain that I have connected everthing up from the power ok but there is a three-pin head connector which I was not sure where it should go. It would either go in the NBFAN1 or the SFAN1 if any...any ideas?
In device manager I have a few unknown devices where the driver has not installed (code 28).
    PCI ETHERNET CONTROLLER
    PCI MULTIMEDIA AUDIO DEVICE
    PCI RAID CONTROLLER
    PCI UNIVERSAL SERIAL BUS
Can you give me any pointers?
    NVIDIA WDM VIDEO CAPTURE (UNIVERSAL)
This is either not present, not working properly, or does not have all drivers installed (code 10)
It says try upgrading drivers for this device so I will see if I can download some.
I would image the above is why I am getting no sound when I play a CD?
Also the Drivers & Utilities CD which came with the KT6 Delta will not load as it is asking for OS Windows 98SE and above. Do I need anything on this Disk or is it a load of rubbish which will fill up my C-Drive and never get used.
Also getting the annoying network passwork request when I boot up...how do you get rid of that again?
    Look forward to you replies
    RJL :~)

  • MSI KT6 Delta-L sound problems

Hi, I have an annoying problem. My sound gets disorted and after one or two seconds I get a Blue Screen..
This only seems to happend with Operation Flashpoint Resistance and Lock On Air Combat (both uses a lot of memory). Computer is rock stabile unless this.
I have tried both Win2k/XP and flashing my BIOS to the most rescent one, as well as the drivers.. I have also tried without the PCI-cards, and disabled some features at the motherboard, but with no help.
But when I used Via AC97 drivers instead of C-Media, it crash no more (aswell as no sound drivers at all), but I have no surround sound (I suppose that driver don't support my sound chip fully)...

  • MSI KT6 Delta LSR SATA to PATA High CPU Usage Problem

Well recently I've switch to my one of my other motherboards on my network to a MSI KT6 Delta LSR, it was working fine after a reformat, but I notice a few problems and that is 100% cpu usage for SATA to PATA, and vice versa, which seems really crazy. Then my network card performance is ISDN speed sluggish, and I tested my line to be working 100% with another mobo. But when I put another NIC on the same mobo it suffers the same speed problems.
Any suggestions? The rig is specs:
    Barton 2500+
    Antec QuietPower 350W
    200GB Seagate SATA HDD
    40GB Seagate PATA HDD
    ATI Radeon 7500 AIW
    Audigy 2 Value
    Realtek 8139 NIC
    MSI KT6 Delta LSR Mobo
    2x512 MB PC 2700 RAM
    Pioneer 107D DVD Writer
    LG 16X DVD-ROM
    56K Modem (A-open)

Shouldn't say what I don't know about SATA, but since I found below, I need ask if VIA 4in1 drivers are installed, preferably while in SafeMode I say:
    http://www.google.se/search?q=cache:X6ewgPiIHYcJ:www.qdi.nl/cgi-bin/bbs/YaBB.pl%3Fboard%3DP4I865%3Baction%3Ddisplay%3Bnum%3D1074174096+sata+to+pata+cpu+usage&hl=sv
I recently installed 160g Seagate barracuda 7200.7 drive on SATA port. (I enabled the Bios using Auto) I have a P4I865pea-6al mother board, with two PATA drives . When copying files between the PATA drives on ide ports, to or from, the SATA drive, I notice the CPU usage goes up to 100%, but when copying files from one ide drive (the PATA drives) to another the CPU usage is very low.
Is there a bios setting that will allow me to copy files from the SATA drive to the Pata drives using a small amount of CPU power, found when just copying between the Primary and Secondary IDE drives? I am using Adobe premiere pro, which uses a lot of CPU power, and the high CPU usage of the SATA drive crashes this program? Any help would be appreciated

  • KT6 Delta and XFX 6600GT Problems

I have had this mobo for a while now and have not had any problems until today.
I recently got a XFX brand Geforce 6600GT AGP video card.
I uninstalled the drivers for the current 5900 card and installed the new card and here is my problem.
With the new card in, it will first see the bios of the video card then go to the boot screen where the system memory test is done. Once this test is done it hangs. Doesnt do anything. Cant even get back into bios. Crossed the jumper and get back into bios. reset all settings and reboot. Same thing.
I reinstalled the 5900 with no problems. have run msi autoupdate and updated the bios to the current version and the via chipset drivers still wont work.
Anyone have any suggestions on how to get this card to work with this system>?

    Sorry,
    Spec's are:
    MSI Kt6 Delta-LSR
    Barton XP2800
    Windows XP-SP2
    Thermaltake 480W
    1G Corsair 3200C2
    WD 80G
    Maxtor 160G
    Audigy Platinum
    NEC 2500A
    Samsund dvd-rom
    (Nothing is overclocked)
    Rails read (live)
    3.3v = 3.38v
    5     =  5.13
    12    =  11.98
Just seems that its an issue with either the bios or the chipset?? Dont know.
The emachine has a P4 but it is an older emachine. When I hooked it up to
the P4 I didnt even have the molex plugged in and it worked!
I currently have the PNY 5900 and all is well. Posts and boots.
Im about to give up on the 6600 unless someone can rescue me!

    Hello!
Pull out the main power cable
Clear CMOS by moving the JBAT jumper or removing the battery for a minute or two.
When booting again, enter BIOS by pressing Del button.
Set FSB to 166, and set the correct time. Don't do anything else. Save&Exit.
If the problem remains, you have to remove the HSF/cooler and the processor. Clean both with pure alcohol and nail polish remover (garnish?), so no old grease is still there. Add new thermal grease, by putting a small drop on the very chip, of the processor. Before putting them back, look carefully on the thing in which the processor is placed, so you don't put the HSF/cooler on back-wards.
Good luck! Please come back if you wonder about above, or if problem remains.

  • [VIA] Problems with MSI KT6 Delta

    MSI KT6 Delta
    AMD XP 2000+
    256 MB DDR 400
    GeForce FX5200 128 MB DDR
I installed WinXP+SP1 and VIA4in1 v4.55 with NVIDIA 66.93 drivers. The screen fades out and in less than a second the picture shows up again.
Note: What should appear in device manager in section "System devices" after installing VIA4in1 v4.55?
I tried: changing video card, RAM memory, installing WinXP+SP2 (worse results!)
    Thanks in advance

The system reports no errors nor conflicts in Device Manager window. This problem appeared when I did an upgrade from WinXP SP1 to SP2. I use Fedora Core on the same computer with NVIDIA drivers installed and there were no problems. I tried to change the monitor but it was the same. I think I managed to solve the problem by installing WinXP SP1 and an older NVIDIA driver (version 4.5.2.3) and VIA 4in1 pack 4.55. Everything runs smooth for now.
