Problem launching iDVD

I've been an occasional user of iDVD 6.0.2. Tonight when I tried to launch the program, I get a modal dialog box which states: "Connection failed The server may not exist or it is not operational at this time. Check the server name or IP address and try again". Clicking the OK brings up the box again. A force quit appears to be the only way out. What server is it talking about? All of my files are on my computer. No sharing involved. Does iDVD check an Apple server? I tried opening iDVD from a PowerBook G4 and got the same results. What gives?

Can only guess but if I was told that it originates in Unix I wouldn't be surprised.
I would start a new account and log into this and see if the problem is solved.
If so I would delete the pref file connected ti iDVD so that iDVD has to make
a new correct one.
- Repair permissions (Apple disk util tool)
- Repair harddisk (Apple disk util tool) You have to start from CD or ext hard disk.

Problems launching iDVD

Does anyone else ever have problems when launchung iDVD? When I open from the icon in the dock, the top menu bar appears, then the spinning beach ball, and then it just hangs there without loading up fully. This seems to freeze my G5 and I have to re-boot.
I use iDVD 7.0.4 which has been fine up to now for 1 year..it's only lately this problem has arisen. I found that if I launched the app from an old existing project it launches fine. I wonder wether it is trying to find the last project worked on and cannot find all the files...I may have trashed them as I no longer need the project.
Any ideas..thanks in advance.

Also I trashed my iDVD prefs (com.apple.idvd.plist) as I read in a post this may help... I have re-started a couple of times and this file does not appear anymore in my library.

Self has a MacBook Pro, which al new software.
My problem is, when my burn a slideshow, prop process ever before burning.
Box show: Multiflexing and burning: write Lead-in, then the process stops and ejects the disc.
I have burn a Movie test – no problems.
Self use Verbatim DVD-R

How did you create the slideshow and get it in iDVD?
As a general comment try following this workflow to separate the encoding and burning processes:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it. If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality. Always use top quality media: Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

Aspect Ratio Problems with iDVD

I am putting together a video presentation with video from several different sources. I have had a whale of a time getting the video to display uniformly at the same aspect ratio. I put all my separate clips into Quicktime Pro and set the aspect ratio to 960 X 540. FINALLY, in Quicktime Pro I was able to assemble the full video so that ALL the footage played in 960 X 540 and looked seamless. I thought I was in great shape.
Then......I thought I would test the video in iDVD because I need to burn about 40 copies of this presentation. Lo and behold, iDVD takes part of the video footage and somehow changes the aspect ratio of certain footage. Part of the video plays in a small postage stamp area in the upper left of the screen, while other segments play in full widescreen just fine. Obviously, my aspect ratios are still messed up somehow, even though the the entire video plays in full 960 X 540 glory in Quicktime Pro. I'm stumped.
Anybody run across this problem in iDVD before?

I'm finding out, thanks to more research on my part, that iDVD does not like the aspect ratio of 960 X 540. The only reason I used that setting is because part of of my video has an iMovie 9 "trailer" and iMovie 9's "large" export is set to 960 X 540. The weird thing is iDVD handles segments of my video that is 960X540 just fine, but it completely bungles up the iMovie 9 trailer segment that is 960 X 540.
I have also found in further testing that iDVD does like a .move file in 853 X 480 and displays that aspect ratio in full widescreen glory.
Hopefully this information will help somebody someday avoid the headaches I have had.

CS6 Beta-on going problem launching CS6 Bridge. Will not open up but CS6 PS does and will work with CS5 Bridge. This obviously is a issue as others have posted this. Have also gone back via "Time Machine" and restored the original CS6 Bridge download which worked for one day, but this no longer works either. Hard to do a beta test when half the program doesn't work! *

Problems launching exernal .chm, part 2

We have are having major issues trying to conver our Winhelp
files to HTML. We have several .hlp files linked. Unfortunately we
can't recreate those links in our .chm files. I have read and
followed Pete Lees suggestions from the first "Problems launching
exernal .chm" thread, but they don't work. Yes, we've made sure the
.chm files are in the same directory. Each file works fine alone,
so I know the import worked. The only way I've found to get the
links to work is to import all the htmls from the second .chm into
the first. That's not acceptable. Any other ideas for us?

The path that you specify in the Program Parameters field
should match the actual path to the topic file inside the CHM. For
example, if you've compiled the topic file into an "html" folder
within the CHM then the path would be:
ms-its:voipgenerators.chm::/
html/sip001.htm
To double-check what the path is, open the target topic in
the CHM, right-click the topic pane, and then click Properties on
the context menu. The address shown in the Address (URL) field is
the absolute path to the topic file.

If this works - You can burn Your DVD in another way via Disk Util tool

Problem launching mail App on ipad2

Whenever I try to open the mail app it immediate closes.
The contacts, mail, calendars setting cannot be opened either. When I highlight that option, i get kicked out of settings back to the home screen.
This, also, happens when I try to access Notes settings. However, there is no problem launching the Notes app.
I've already shut down the mail app, rebooted the device and restored to the original factory settings.
My mail app includes gmail, hotmail and Lotus Mail (enterprise)
I've reloaded Lotus Mail.
Issue started last week with ios 6. I migrated to 6.0.1 with the same results

I am having problems launching the standalone version of Lightroom 6 after I have gone through the install and activation process? Lightroom starts to open but "hangs" before any photos in the catalgue are displayed. I have contacted the chat support twice but they have not been able to fix the problem.

I went through the activation process yesterday and shut down my PC when I went to bed last evening. When I got up this morning and turned my PC on and then started Lightrom 6 (I upgraded from version 5) it started to launch but then just hung and became "not responsive". I I then uninstalled and then reinstalled the product today but the same thing happened. What is weird is that when I install from the standalone file I downloaded when I purchased the upgrade it looks like it's downloading the software again over the Internet? I have been having these problems for the last four or five days. I have contacted the chat support folks twice and they were able to get it working but whatever they did did not last as the problem reappeared again once the PC was shut down and then started up again.

Try this basic troubleshooting fix:
1 - delete the IDVD preference file, com.apple.iDVD.plist, that resides in your
User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete IDVD'S cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iDVD folder.
3 - launch IDVD and try again.
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
If you're running Mavericks, 10.9, go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:

I have iMovie but when I go to create a DVD it doesn't launch iDVD - I understood that iDVD was part of the package

I have iMovie and have created a project that I want burn to DVD
The help tells me it will launch iDVD after finalising and rendering the project but this doesn't happen
Also I can't find iDVD in my applications
I thought iDVD was part of the iMovie package.
Am I wrong and if so how do I get iDVD?

Apple no longer includes iDVD on Macs running Lion.
Apple believes that the entire world has access to fast broadband and wants to distribute home movies to friends and relatives via download (iCloud) rather than mailing them a DVD. The fact that in reality not all users do, has so far had no effect on this policy. If you scream and shout loudly enough down the phone Apple may send you a free copy of iDVD. That worked for some, but is now said to have been withdrawn by Apple. Also, you can complain bitterly here, perhaps suggesting that Apple could have provided a choice between using iCloud and burning DVDs:

Whilst Macs with a Superdrive continue to be able to burn video DVDs, the software for so doing, iDVD, is no longer included in the iLife bundle that comes with OS 10.7 Lion (which also omitted iWeb) or will come with OS 10.8 Mountain Lion. And it is no longer included in the iLife 11 from the online Apple Store: http://www.apple.com/ilife/. Your only solution is to look on Amazon or eBay and try to get an older version that includes iDVD.
However, the vastly more expensive FCPX can burn a DVD without iDVD or DVD Studio Pro involvement, but lack the themes etc of iDVD. Also, of course, there is Roxio Toast.
And if you think Microsoft are any better, their new Windows 8 operating system will not play DVDs, or burn them, unless customers buy an extra upgrade, the company has announced.
In other words, computer manufacturers have declared optical media as dead, long before consumers are ready to stop using them, which is fine as long as they offered us a choice, but they won’t even do that.
