Problem launching itunes on XP

I downloaded itunes 7.6.2.9 and when I launch the app I get the windows error reporting error:
AppName: itunes.exe AppVer: 7.6.2.9 ModName: unknown
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 000b0120
I also did the dll modification of four dll files as well.
Any suggestions?

even after I did the removal with windows cleanup and re-installing itunes...
Thank you for clarifying when you saw what you saw in your Add/Remove Programs control panel.
Launch your Installer CleanUp again ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). (Let's not remove anything just at this stage, we're just taking a look.)
In addition to any QuickTime entries in the list of programs in CleanUp, are you seeing any mysterious entries which:
(a) Are a completely blank line (or just have a version number in square brackets, no name of a program)?
(b) Start with "(All users)" but afterwards are completely blank (no name of a program)?
(c) Start with "(All users)" but afterwards just contain a version number in square brackets (no name of a program)?

  • Problem launching iTunes 10.0... on Vista 64 bit machine

I have been trying for 2 days to launch Itunes 10; have totally uninstalled all components in the order suggested, i.e itunes, quicktime, applesoftware update, applemobile device support, bonjour, and apple application support.I checked all folders to make sure they were really gone.
I have disabled all anti-spy software and turned off security firewall when I reinstalled iTunes again; I also created a new user account on my system and tried to launch itunes from it; still did not work.
I was able to install and launch iTunes 10 on another system I have (Dell with XP) and it will work there, but that doesn't help because my music library is on the Acer (and of course my Ipod). Help ! I'm very frustrated

    no problem!
I think we might be able to make some further progress with this one if you're still game, joan.
'iTunes has been set to run in compatibility mode for an older version of windows. turn off compatibility mode before opening itunes'
Quit iTunes again. Now track down the compatibility mode tab for your iTunes, as per:
[iTunes for Windows: How to turn off Compatibility Mode|http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1489]
... but when you get to step 8, deselect any checkbox that is currently selected. (Not just the compatibility mode checkbox.)
Try opening iTunes again ... does it launch without the compatibility mode error this time?

  • Problem launching itunes after upgrade to version 7.

launching itunes in another newly created 'administrator' ser name does work. how can i get it to launch with my normal username ? i tried deleting the apple folder in local settings, and application data under my normal username or copy the folder from the new 'administrator' into my normal username, but to no avail yet....
    Any help ?

    Hi Jason,
I went through the whole msconfig menu and tried to launch itunes but no luck.
Also deleting the file in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\SC Info did not work. After I restarted and launched itunes, box came up stating it was installing itunes, but then it disappeared again. It is still trying to launch and I can see it appearing for one second in the Task Manager if I try to open itunes, but then it disappears and all goes quiet.
I have a Trend Micro Office Scan system operating on my lap top. But then again the 'administrator' user account uses the same settings and can launch itunes....
so the multimilliondollar question is how can I launch itunes within my own user account... Version 6 ran perfectly....

  • Problems launching Itunes

Having real problem since installing iTunes 10. Install worked fine but on launching nothing happens. In task manager, iTunes appears in the Process tab but not in the application tab.
Have uninstalled and resinstalled but no luck.
    Anybody have any ideas?

Yeah, I've completely removed Bonjour from my computer and uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes 10 and 9.1. Neither work. Can anyone find a link to download iTunes 9.2 that is not a .dmg file? I run Windows, so I can't open them, they appear to be designed for Macs.

  • Problems launching Itunes client

Hi, I installed the Itunes on my PC no problem, but when I attempt to launch the client I get a window pop up which reads: iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close.
We are sorry for the inconvenience.
I've re-installed a few times now and the same thing happens.
    Thanks in advance

I have exactly the same problem/error message. I had to rebuild my Dell from the distribution disks so I downloaded the latest iTunes and it won't launch, and neither will Quicktime. I get the popup:
iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close.
The support data referenced in the popup doesn't seem to indicate an actual error.
Just like you, I've completely uninstalled and reinstalled, and run the repair portion of the install.
iTunes was working fine before I rebuilt the Dell.
I can find my shuffle as a memory device in Windows Explorer - so the USB appears to be working.
I do have some Garmin devices on the USB, but I this is no different than before I rebuilt the PC.

  • Problem launching itunes

I can't seem to open itunes - nothing happens when I click on the icon. It was successfully downloaded and installed, and quicktime works, but not itunes. Whenever I shut down the computer, there is an error message saying that itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close, and then one that says that the program is not responding. What's going on?

try to uninstall it and then reinstall it via the download.

  • TS1717 Having problems lauching iTunes on my pc, dowloaded new version, getting error message that iTunes is not installed correctly or corrupted, reinstall. I'm afraid I will loose everything, tried to back up to earlier date, system diognosis said incompa

Having problems launching iTunes on my pc. Had iTunes on this particular pc for over a year. Have downloaded all of the new updated versions. Now I get an error message saying "This copy of iTunes is corrupted or is not installed correctly. Please reinstall." I have backed up the pc to an earlier date when when the program was working, and also performed serveral system diagnosis all saying the program is incompatible. Searched for several compatible programs, none worked. All this happened several days after visiting iTunes.  I'm afraid that if I reinstall iTunes that I will loose everything and have to start all over. Eventhough everything is saved in an iCloud account and this particular pc. Never had a problem till now. Appreciate any help.   Thank you,   cld

Let's try a repair install of iTunes first.
Restart the PC. If you're using Vista or 7, now head into your Uninstall a program control panel, select "iTunes" and then click "Repair". If you're using XP, head into your Add or Remove Programs control panel, select "iTunes", click "Change" and then click "Repair".
Can you launch your iTunes now?

When trying to launch ITunes I get an error message saying that application fail to start because MSVCR80.dll file not found. Reinstalling app may fix problem.

I've just (finally) managed to fix this problem today. I checked the Apple Support forums, and it seems a lot of people are having the same problem.
I rang the Apple Support line, and the very helpful man (thanks Alan!) talked me through it stage by stage. If you go to the following page on the internet: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5376   it takes you through the process. WARNING - it takes a little time!
Basically, the first thing you have to do is go to your Program Files and double click on your iTunes folder. There'll be a number of files with the suffix .dll - you need to move all the .dll files from that folder to your desktop - you can simply click and drag them on the desktop..
Next, uninstall iTunes - go to Control Panel / Add/Rempve Programs and when the list comes up remove iTunes. This will take a few minutes... Then reboot your computer.
Next, go back to Control Panel / Add Remove and Remove - IN THIS ORDER -
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
    Reboot again!
Next, check in your Program Files that the iTunes folder is completely gone - if it has, great: if it hasn't, right-click on the folder and press Shift and Delete - it will say "Are you sure you want to completely remove the folder "iTunes"? Click on "Yes".
    Reboot!
Then go to the iTunes download page and voila! It should download iTunes without any problems... well it did for me.... Good luck!

  • Problems when i launch iTunes

I can only launch iTunes when my ipod is connected to the pc.
When I try to launch without my ipod connected, I allways get the same troubleshoot: 'the folder iTunes cannot be found or created, an is required. The default location for this folder is inside the 'My Music' folder' ( i m using the latest version of iTunes)
    aer aspire 1714smi   Windows XP

wongske, i think you might be getting two different problems at once here.
is your "My Music" on a drive other than your C drive? if so, what i think is underwriting all this is a driveletter confusion between your ipod and that drive:
Windows confuses iPod with network drive and may keep iPod from mounting or songs may seem to disappear
when your ipod is plugged in, the drive letters align so that your registry is "seeing" the My Music folder. when the ipod isn't plugged in, the Registry ends up looking on the wrong drive for the My Music folder, and you get this issue:
iTunes for Windows: "Disk is locked" or "iTunes folder cannot be found" when installing or opening iTunes

  • Problem with launching iTunes

Whenever I go to launch iTunes, it launches, but then shuts down within two seconds. I have tried reinstalling iTunes, but it continues with this odd habit of launching but then immediately closing.
I recently moved to the United Kingdom for a semester of school and am unable to contact Apple Tech Support. Does anyone have any advice as to how to fix this problem?

greetings agrandel, and welcome to the forums.
you could try reinstalling iTunes properly. click here and follow the instructions.
or you could create a new admin user account, log in and try launching iTunes.
    what happens ?

  • Problems with iTunes Launching

I am having problems with iTunes launching on my G4 Mac Mini. Everytime I tried to launch it the application just carries on bouncing up and down on the dock, but never launches. I dumped the preferences folder then tried to relaunch it but that didnt solve anything. Then I tried uninstalling the whole application. I searched for any files associated with iTunes and trashed them. Then reinstalled iTunes 7 (previously had iTunes 6 on), thinking this would solve the problem but it didnt. Has anyone got any suggestions for me? My only other option is to reformat the whole machine just to get iTunes working again. Obvioulsy I didnt right away wanna go this route. I'm sure there is something I am just missing
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello Laura&Graeme, Welcome to Discussions.
First off great job with what you have done. I have some suggestions below. One which you have done but want to ensure you know the full list of apple programs that may actually be in your system. So you can remove them all.
