Problem learning Sony remote...

I have a Sony Bravia TV. With the previous Apple TV I could get it to learn this TV's remote when in DVD mode. However, with my Apple TV 2 if I try to learn this remote the progress bar stops about 30% the way through each time it tries to learn a new button. If I put the remote in TV mode then it appears to be able to learn the buttons but obviously then I can't control the TV.
Anyone experienced this problem?
Thanks, Dave.

I just hit this, but it only happened when trying to program the "left" command. All others were fine. I was able to get it to program by repeatedly pressing the button on the remote. I had to do it at the right pace -- not too fast or slow. Eventually I got the bar all the way to 100% and it worked. Give that a try.

  • Capturing Problem with Sony TRV330

Capturing problem with Sony digital8 trv330.
I recently purchased the above camcorder from eBay for capturing old 8mm/Hi8 tapes for editing purpose. The camcorder set to A/V -> DV OUT connected with Firewire to my Power G4 and the Easy Setup was DV-NTSC. The playback on the capture window looks OK except there were no timecode in the Timecode Duration Field and the Current Timecode Field (both shown 00:00:00:00) during playback but there was timedoce in the camcorder viewfinder. When I click the Capture Now button, the capturing window show up with message “waiting for timecode ….”. I have to click “esc” to stop the capturing operation. I trash the Preferences and Ran the Disk Utility without success. I also tried the Easy Setup with DV-NTSC DV Converter as well as DV-NTSC 32Khz, nothing work.
My set up is: Mac Power G4 version 10.5.5/ F.C.E. 4.0.1/ QT7.5.5/ Startup 160 GB-89 GB available/ Scratch 350GB-277GB available. Folks, I need help. Thanks everybody.

Hi, I have a similar problem. I am trying to digitize my 8mm tapes (via firewire) using final cut express (4.0.1). Using easy setup I use DV-NTSC DV Converter and do capture now. I transfer the entire tape but notice the audio is out of synch with the video. This problem gets worse throughout the transfer process. When I use the esc to complete the transfer I get the error " The audio sample rate of one or more of your captured media files does not match the sample rate on your source tape....." So after searching around it is recommended I change the audio sample rate to 32 kHz option. However, when I do this using easy setup and picking DV-NTSC 32kHz I cannot use capture now because I have no timecode and so the window comes up with the message "waiting for timecode". Since there is no timecode this option does not work. Any suggestions? Thanks, Dan

  • Strange problem with purple-remote

Hi, I experience a strange problem with purple-remote (program which allow to control Pidgin via D-Bus) :
To get the current status message, you have to type
    $ purple-remote getstatusmessage
This works, but when I type
    $ echo $(purple-remote getstatusmessage)
    this fails with the error
    Traceback (most recent call last):
    File "/usr/bin/purple-remote", line 238, in <module>
    print output
UnicodeEncodeError: 'ascii' codec can't encode character u'\xe9' in position 12: ordinal not in range(128)
    Why?
How can this program work in the first case but not in the second?
    Thank you
Edit: BTW, is there a workaround to put the output of `purple-remote getstatusmessage' in a variable? $(), redirections and piping doesn't work.

  • Help w/ Problem Connecting to Remote Speakers

I have remote speakers connected through my Airport Express. After I downloaded the latest version of I tunes, I am no longer able to use my remote speakers, Get this error message.
An error occurred while connecting to the remote speaker "XXX". An unknown error occured (-3256).
I have both a Dell Laptop w/ Windows and an I-Book, I downloaded the latest version of I tunes on both of them the same day, and get the same error message above on both when trying to use my speakers, I am able to use the built in speakers on my computer however. Never had a problem using the remote speakers before. Possibly a bug w/ the latest version?
    Any suggestions?

I was able to resolve this issue using the following two Apple Support articles:

There may be an omission in the first article. In my case, after step 4 of the instructions for Mac OS X 10.4.11 (click the Configure button) I needed to click the Advanced button and select TCP/IP in the new window.

I have just purchased a Vado HD 3rd gen & was looking forward to using my Sony ECM DS70p Microphone, but after a couple of tests, the recording is extremely low & barley laudable.
The Microphone works fine on My Kodak Zi8.
Is there an internal setting I have to adjust, or is there a fault with the Vado
The Sony ECM DS70pMicrophone can be clearly seen in use here on a official Creative video.

If anybody can offer some help or advice please, I would be very grateful.
Does anyone have a suggestion for a low profile stereo mic, to use with the Vado 3rd Gen
    Thank you.
    Thank you.

This is happening to me too, I don't know if this is an Adobe Flash Player 11.5's bug or it's just my computer. All my browsers, chrome, IE9, Fox, doesn't even load anime videos. I tried reinstalling 11.5 many times, it have no effect but I use IE9 64-bit to run the videos that couldn't run. I waited 25 min for a JW player to load an episode of anime and I'm sick of it.

  • Problems connecting Sony HandyCam in iMovie

I'm running a MacBook Pro 10.6.8 and trying to import movies from my Sony HandyCam HC-52 via the firewire port in iMovie. I have the camera set to playback/edit as required, but the camera never shows up in the "import" window.  I'm running a brand new firewire cable, but the only camera that iMovie recognizes is the built-in Web cam.  Why won't the HandyCam show up under "Import"?

    Hi
    NO CAMERA or A/D-box
    Cable
    • Are You sure that You are using the FireWire Cable - USB-Cable will not work for miniDV tape Cameras
FireWire - Sure not using the accompany USB-Cable but bought a 4-pin to 6-pin (or 9-pin) FW one ?
    • Test another FW-Cable very often the problem maker.
    Camera
    • Test Your Camera on another Mac so that DV-in still works OK
    • Toggle in iMovie pref. Play-back via Camera (on <-> off some times)
    • Some Cameras has a Menu where You must select DV-out to get it to work
    • Camera connected to "charger" (mains adaptor) - not just on battery
    • Camera set in Playback mode - NOT Recording mode
Does Your Camera work on another Mac ?
Sorry to say it is to easy to turn the 6-pin end of the FW-cable 180 deg wrong.
This is lethal to the A/D-chip in the Camera = needs an expensive repair.
(Hard to find out - else than import/export to another Mac ceased to work
everything else is OK e.g. recording and playback to TV)
    A/D-box
    • Is the dip-switches set right ?
    • Set to same standard as recorded/editing e.g. NTSC 29.97fps or PAL 25fps
    • Try resetting it
    Connections
    • Daisy Chaining most often doesn’t work (some unique cases - it’s the only way that work (some Canon Cameras ?))
Try to avoid connecting Camera <--> external HD <--> Mac but import directly to the Mac then move
the Movie project to dedicated external hard disk.
    • FireWire-port - Can be re-setted by - Turn off Mac and disconnecting Mac from Mains/Power for 20-30 minutes
    External device’s (hard disk’s)
    • Should be FireWire as USB/USB2 performs badly and so does Airport or Net-work connected ones too.
    • MUST BE - Mac OS Extended formatted - UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange - DO NOT WORK for video due to 4Gb barrier.
    Mac
    • Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk ? Please specify the amount of free space.
    (Other hard disks don't count)
I go for a minimum of 25Gb free space for 4x3 SD Video - and my guess is 5 times more for 16x9 HD ones
after material is imported and edited. No Camera or A/D-box
    • GarageBands fix - Close iMovie, Open GarageBand, Play some notes, Close GB and iMove can now be OK
    • Does Your Mac have a FireWire Port
    • White MacBooks - don't
    • MacBook-Air - don't
if not then a few Mac’s has a PCM-CIA slot and there are FW-Cards that makes a FW-port this way
    else - NO SOLUTION
Only option as I get it is either
    • Use another Mac to Capture material (to an external USB2 - Mac OS Extended formatted hard disk - or -
    • Change to another Camera that can be used with Your Mac (no there are no miniDV tape Cameras that can)
    • If Your Mac-Book has a PCM-CIA Card place - then there are FW-port-Cards and then
You can import via this - but I've not seen this on more modern Macs. My PowerBook G4
has one and this FW-Card-port works greatly.
    SoftWare
    • Delete iMovie pref. file may help sometimes. I rather start a new account, log into this and have a re-try.
    • Any strange Plug-ins into QuickTime as Perian etc ? Remove and try again.
    • FileVault is off ? (hopefully)
    • Screen Saver - OFF
    • Energy Saver - OFF
    Using WHAT versions ? .
    • Mac OS - X.5.4 ?
    • QuickTime version ? (This is the heart in both iMovie and FinalCut)
    • iMovie’08 (7.1.?), 09 or 11 ?
    • iMovie HD 6 (6.0.4/3) ?
Other ways to import Your miniDV tape
    • Use another Camera. There where tape play-back stations from SONY
but they costed about 2-4 times a normal miniDV Camera.
    • If Your Camera works on another Mac. Make an iMovie movie project here and move it
over to Your Mac via an external hard disk.
(HAS TO BE   Mac OS Extended   formatted - USB/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange WILL NOT DO)
(Should be a FireWire one - USB/USB2 performs badly)

Hi Bengt W, I tried it all, but nothing worked. Your answer has been helpful insofar as all the different trials led to the conclusion that there was something wrong with my iMovie software. I therefore threw everything away and reinstalled iMovie from the HD. After that the exportation of DV videos (there has not been any problem with HDV videos) to my Sony camcorders worked properly as it did before. Thank you. LKN 1935

in addition to Bengt's excellent '9 yards of advice' ..
camera set to 'Play' , not rec/computer/etc.?
camera not on battery, but power-line?
did your Mac 'recognize' this camera before...?
    a technical check.
    connect camera, on, playback, fw-connected...
click on the Blue Apple, upper left of your screen ..
    choose 'About . . / More . .
under Firewire.. what do you read . . ?

    • FileVault - Secure that it’s turned off
    • Network storage - DOESN’T WORK
    • Where did You store/capture/import Your project ?
External USB hard disk = Bad Choice / FireWire = Good
If so it has to be Mac OS Extended formatted
----> UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange is NOT Working for VIDEO !

Thanks for all your suggestions. What I learned is that I had a software problem. I had something called "Nikon Transfer" on my Mac that was recognizing my Canon camcorder as a still camera and was preventing iMovie from working properly. After un-installing Nikon Transfer and doing a reboot, everything worked great.
I never liked the Nikon Transfer software anyway--I guess I'll get a cheap card reader and use that to transfer photos in the future.

The problem was the external backup hard drive that is connected, you need to disconnect the external drive before the mac can see the video camera.

Maybe your problems is solved in the meantime, but for all others this might help as I had the same problem, also have the Sony HDR-HC7, but the 7e (Europe, PAL). I found this link today and it works perfectly
    //support.sony-europe.com/tutorials/dime/videotransfer/vtransfer.aspx site=odw_en_GB&sec=DVH&m=HDR-HC7E
What I exactly did.- put camera in play mode - open guide - choose connection guide - choose comp./printer (where to transfer movie to) - select connection.- i-link (on my camera) but equal to firewire - OK - choose HDV - choose NO for conversion of i.link.
Settings are shown then (VCR HDV/DV.- HDV and i.link-conv..- OFF), press OK, OK, END.
Switch camera off. Connect firewire cable to camera & Mac. Switch camera on, in play/edit mode.
Open i-movie, choose import from camera. On screen below the camera connection is shown.- DV (HDV). Now you can import, automatically or manually.
This worked perfectly for me. Took me 2 days to find out. Could not find any clear thread explaining what I had to do on the camera and the manual was not clear either.

  • Having problems viewing video remotely

Greetings, all! I am using a Sony camera with my PXI 1409 card. In my vi, I have an embedded video grab that is shown on one tabbed page. My problem is this: When I connect to remotely run this vi, the box where my grab is shown on the remote machine has the following words "Control could not be loaded." On the PXI machine where the actual vi resides and runs, the box showing the grab (which does indeed still show the grab in progress) now appears on EVERY tab (I have 5 tabs on my vi). Can anyone think of a reason that this is happening? I'll be happy to provide more information if needed. You just need to let me know what you need, as I'm pretty new to labview. Thanks!

What sort of indictor are you using to display the image? IMAX windows aren't really LV indicators. They don't have terminals and (though I have never really tried it) I can image that they wouldn't deal with tab controls real well--or remote viewing either.
Can you convert the image, and display it in an intensity plot or picture control?

  • Problems converting Sony/BMG CDs

Sony/BMG has released a new copy protection on some of their cds that will prevent the legally purchased music from being able to be transferred to an iPod, however, as the following link describes, the software used to enforce this protection is pretty controversial:
    http://www.securityfocus.com/news/11352
You can go here to uninstall the protection software, but I'm still not clear on if you can import the music into iTunes or your iPod after it has been removed, but I think that you can.
    http://cp.sonybmg.com/xcp/english/updates.html

I live near Paris, France, and my daughter just bought the Sony-BMG CD "System of a Down" at the local FNAC. Unknowingly (there's no warning) she uploaded this onto iTunes and was having problems with the very slow transfer. Sure enough iTunes refuses to transfer the music to her iPod, but the music seems to play okay on iTunes. After perusing the articles listed on this discussion board, we learned about the hidden software that the Sony copy protection system places on the computer.
We've written to Sony to complain about this unfair limitation on our fair use of legally purchased music (we just want the music for personal use on our iPod, not to copy it or burn it!). However, when we went to the Sony site to find out how to remove the software (assuming Macs are vulnerable to it), we learned that you have to submit a request (we did), then they send you a message with a further link and you have to submit more information and a further request, to which Sony says it will eventually reply (only open M-F, it says). It is indeed outrageous!

  • Problems with Sony NX3 AND Sony Z5 avi files

Very, very strange problem. I will try to give as much detail as possible so bear with me.
I currently edit with two different computers. One uses Premier 3 the other uses Premiere 6. I shoot with several different cameras, but for purposes of this discussion I will talk only about the Sony Z5 and the Sony NX3. I capture my footage on a CF card (Z5) or SD card (NX3)
All HD footage shoot with the Z5 and/or the NX 3 works fine on either system. However any SD footage that is over a certain length will not import into premiere 6 (if it's from the Z5) or the length of the footage will only be 2:37 (on footage from the NX3). However the SD footage from either camera will play perfectly on the system with Premiere 3.
Any ideas on what my problem with premiere 6 is?

I caputured footage from my ZU1 yesterday that encountered time code breaks. They should not have been there. My only thought is that the breaks occured when I shut the camera down and started recording later.
Maybe... I assumed it was user error... I was wondering if perhaps a setting in the camera was causing the breaks when the camera powers down.

  • MDP to HDMI display problem with Sony Bravia

    Hi,
I've tried without success to connect my 2010 MBP to my Sony Bravia KDL-40W2000 using a Griffin Video Display Converter and an HDMI cable.
The TV isn't displaying a picture and no audio is transmitted either.
When the Griffin adapter is connected, I see an additional Display preference window (titled 'SONY TV'), but whichever options I choose in that window, I can't get anything to come up on the TV. I've tried all the resolutions possible and have experimented with turning mirroring on and off. Every combination ends up with the same result: the display is fine on the MBP but nothing appears on the TV.
I've looked through the TV's menus but there seem to be only a few relevant settings to tweak, and tweaking them hasn't helped. Sony's support team told me that their TVs aren't designed to accept HDMI input from computers(!), which just doesn't seem right given that others have had no problems in connecting up their kit to Sony TVs.
I know the HDMI cable is fine as it works when connected to the TV via another device.
I'd guess that the Griffin adapter is faulty, although if this were the case I wouldn't have expected the extra Display preference window to have appeared.
Is anyone able to diagnose the problem before I try to get the Griffin adapter replaced?
    Thanks,
    John

    Hi John,
Did you fix your problem? I have an uncannily similar problem. I bought my MBP in December '09, and recently bought a Neet mini HDMI adaptor (http://www.amazon.co.uk/DisplayPort-AUDIO-v1-3b-adapter-cable/dp/B002SKJKE2/ref= sr126?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1282087795&sr=8-26) and HDMI cable. But I can get nothing at all through to the Sony TV through it. My Sony TV is KDL-40s3000. I went into the Preferences - Display and it didnt detect the Sony there, and in the Sony menu, under Settings - Set-Up - HDMI Set-Up, it never detects any device either. Under the channel on the Sony I chose for this, it does say "out of range". Perhaps that has something to do with it. Any solutions you found, please let me know!

hello! i have a problem connecting to one of our servers via Remote Desktop Connection. The story goes like this: the server works fine, i can connect using my credentials with no problems, the firewall is up. But, when i restart the server, after loading
