Problem: Light color shadow on top of black background when printing

Using InDesign CS3, PC.
I have a book cover design that looks perfect on screen. There is a section with a black background and colored letters on top of it. Also on top of this black background is an image of a dinosaur (made in illustrator CS3). The image was placed into the InDesign file and does not have any color to the background. But when it is printed (Xerox Phaser), there is a colored shadow where the image overlaps the black background section.
There are also colored areas over other black background sections where drop shadows (35%) occur on top of the black background.
Could anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? I have never dealt with 100% black in my designs before and I must be doing something wrong.
Again, on the screen you cannot see any of these colored areas on top of the black background. It's only when I print that they show up.
Thank you,
Cathy

    1. Press the F2 key couple of times.
    2. Reset PRAM.  http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4405

  • How do I remove the black background when displaying photos in iphoto 8

    After upgrading to iphoto 8 my photos now sit on a black background when viewed from album, library or events. I have changed the slider from black to white in Preferences/Appearance but it only changes the display background for when the thumbnails are shown. The moment I click on a photo it displays at full size with an annoying black background. In previous versions it displays with a grey or white background.
    Can anyone help with some advice before I reinstall iphot0 6. Thanks

    wordleader:
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions. For the background in albums and in the Photos window use the Background slider in iPhoto's Appearance preference pane. In the Events window where you see the square events you can't change the background color.
    Do you Twango?
    TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
    I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Is it possible to get a black background when using Picture Book layout in iphoto?

    I want to customize the layouts more in iphoto--either be able to use a black background when using the Picture Book layout, or have more layout options in the Photo Essay layout.  Are either of these possible?
    Thanks!

    Yes.

  • How do I remove top and bottom margins when printing using Adobe Acrobat XI Standard.

    How do I remove top and bottom margins when printing using Adobe Acrobat XI Standard. (I selected 'Fit to scale' and there's a huge gap on the top and bottom).

    Those margins are usually reported from the printer settings to Acrobat. Meansif you have, for example, an inkjet printer and that printer can not print seamlessly, then there will be a minimum margin.
    Check your printer's page settings.

  • Issues with black psd files on black backgrounds when exported to PDF.

    Hello there,
    I'm having an issue since I upgraded to leopard and moved all my stuff from my old macbook pro (running OSX 10.4) to my new macbook pro (running OSX 10.5). CS3 didn't seem to have any problems before but now when I export an Indesign file with a black background containing a photoshop layered tif with a black background to pdf, the appears to be a big difference between the blacks - the Indesign file's black appears to be a mid grey.
    Any help would be appreciated!
    Here's how it all looks in InDesign: http://aycu14.webshots.com/image/48613/2005862333507831436_rs.jpg
    But this happens when exported and viewed in Acrobat (or preview etc.): http://aycu02.webshots.com/image/49801/2005871851784365159_rs.jpg

    In ID prefs go to Appearance of Blacks
    and set both instances to display Blacks Accurately.
    You will need to measure the rich black in the Tiff and make a rich black swatch in ID and use that for your book cover. now the blacks will match.

  • Black background when scaling images with transparent background

    I am implementing Zooming functionality for reports which have some icons. I am trying to scale icon by scaling its image. But the problem I am facing is that the icons have transparent background and the scaling puts a black background in place of transparent. Is there any way to maintain its transparency or better yet, Is there anyway to put a white backgound instead of the black one that is created by default ? Here is my code
         public static Icon getScaledIcon(Icon icon){
             if(icon instanceof ImageIcon){
                  Image outImage = ((ImageIcon)icon).getImage();
                      return new ImageIcon(getScaledImage(outImage));
             }else{
                  Image outImage = new BufferedImage(icon.getIconWidth(),
                            icon.getIconHeight(),
                            BufferedImage.TYPE_INT_ARGB);
                    JComponent comp = new JComponent(){};
                    icon.paintIcon(comp, outImage.getGraphics(), 0, 0);
                    return new ImageIcon(getScaledImage(outImage));
        public static Image getScaledImage(Image image){
             image = image.getScaledInstance((int)(image.getWidth(null) * getScale()),
                           (int)(image.getHeight(null) * getScale()), Image.SCALE_SMOOTH);
            return image;
        }I haven't done much image manipulation , so I would really appreciate any help or advice.

    I have also not done much of image work. But I guess you could achieve your functionality of showing scaled image in the screen by not scaling the image and show it, instead scale the image in paint method by calling g.drawImage giving the height and width. But use high resolution images so that scaling is good.
    If you do in this manner, you could give any colour you want as background to fill the transparent area or leave it as such.
    Regards,
    techece.

  • Can't get black background in Print project

    I am using the print feature in iPhoto '08 to print a batch of photos to PDF - one photo per PDF page. The intent is to use the pdf file to give a slideshow presentation that is hosted on a Windows machine - hence pdf. This works fine.
    But when I try to select a black background in the Customize window for the pages, the background still shows as white, which in turn will give a white border on all the eventually projected pictures which isn't desirable. If this isn't the right way to get the background of the pdf pages all-black, what is?
    Thanks.

    OK, further update.
    The white border inside the black border that Print Project adds seems to be actually part of the original photo, and only occurs where the "photo" was created by )e.g.) PowerPoint - I can fix that in the original.
    But outside the black border (if black is the color I select in iPhoto print) there is still a white collar which will show up when I project the picture, and I can't find a way to get rid of that. In addition, the black border crops the photos, which sometimes cuts off a bit I might want.
    I seem to have experimented with all of the features in iPhoto print that seem to be relevant, and can't go any further.
    Any thoughts out there?

  • How do I get my animation to not have a black background when it has a white background?

    When I export my animation with a white background it shows that it has a black background in Premier Elements.

    I am not sure how the relationship between Flash and Premiere works, but if it is anything like putting a Flash file in another Flash file then the loaded Flash file will not have a background.  What you should try doing is to draw a white rectangle on the bottom-most layer of the Flash file timeline that covers the whole stage.

  • Top margin too big when printing to shared printer

    We have a Canon Pixma iP6600D printer that is connected to an iMac on our home network and shared for printing with other macs in the house.
    Suddenly, since a few days ago, any prints made from these other machines are printing with too large a top margin (i.e. the print starts too low on the page by about an inch), and so the bottom margin is consequently too narrow (and sometimes the ink even overflows past the bottom of the page).
    When I attach the printer directly via USB to one of these machines then the printouts look just fine.
    All the machines have OSX 10.7.2 installed.

    This worked for me too, though I was in a rush and didn't really read what I was doing.  This tip removes all printers configured on your Mac, not just the one that is selected.  If you also connect to networked printers (not those with configured with Bonjour) or any other advanced printer, you'll want to write down any IP addresses or settings before proceeding.  My guess is that simply removing and then adding the Bonjour printer again would also do the trick.

  • Hp color laserjet 2600n, very dim grayish film when printing black only

    For some reason, my hp color laserjet 2600n has started printing with a very dim grayish film over each page. I've had this printer for about a year, and it didn't do this at first. Does it no matter what program I print from. I'm sure it's a setting issue, but haven't been able to figure it out. Any ideas?
    And, when I select to print in black only, it still prints the color on web pages. Is there a way to print from only the black cartridge? These are the options in the printer dialogue box under color: print in grayscale, black only, 4-color. Under these settings are other options, edge control, half-tone and RGB color. I've tried each setting individually and still the gray film. The only other possibility I can see is under Print Options, it has draft quality or image quality. I've tried both and still the film.
    Have any ideas.

    1. take out all of the ink cartriges and look at the big black roller on the door for streaking, if streaking, clean with a lint free cloth dampened with windex (window cleaner) then close the door.
    2. let it run to initializing.
    3. open the door and look and the black roller on the door to see if you have streaking. If no streaking put one cartridge in and close the door and repeat the steps until you find what cartridge is causing the problem.
    I did this and found that my cyan was creating the lines on my paper. I cleaned the cyan roller with a Qtip and some rubbing alcohol and it works fine now, no more lines on the paper.
    Cheers

  • Color Laserjet Pro M277dw making weird noises when printing

    Hello Everyone, At my office we bought the Color Laserjet Pro M277dw printer last week, and since then everytime we print, the printer makes really weird noises. We checked inside but everything inside looks to be okay . Here you have the link with an audio I recorded with the sound it makes. Thank you very much and it would be great if you guys could help us to find a solution! Best, Lorena

    Grinding can only mean physical damage to the printer.  You need to isolate the sound and replace the part to resolve the problem. The good news is that this is a new printer and will be covered by the warranty.  Contact HP directly and have them run you through the options.  It shouldnt cost you anything, but you do need to contact them directly.

  • Custom colors in FrameMaker 10 not being maintained when printing PDF using Distiller/Professional X

    Hello all,
    I am working my first tech writing job that requires printed material instead of just PDFs, and I am having problems with the logo colors when it comes to printing them.
    I created the two color definitions in FrameMaker 10 (using colors Pantone 485 CVC and Pantone 281 CVC). These colors are used for diagram callouts and doc titles.
    I recently upgraded to Distiller X and Acrobat Professional X, thinking that maybe the older versions just didn't support those colors, and I am still getting the same result. Instead of printing the colors I added, the PDF is printed with the default red and blue. FrameMaker is using the CMYK model.
    I have a feeling that I just need to adjust some settings, but I don't know whether to adjust Distiller, Acrobat, or FrameMaker. Anyone else have issues when trying to use their company's colors? Any ideas on what might work?
    Thanks in advance,
    Smitty

    John,
    I'm not even sure what printer we use since we send the PDFs out to be printed on a glossy paper (I'm new to the position so I don't have all the details yet). All I use is my Adobe PDF printer. I'm also not using FileMaker, I'm using FrameMaker since I am producing manuals that will be printed, not marketing material or anything with a lot of images. I am just trying to get the logo colors to appear correctly in the PDF so that when it does get printed off-site, the Pantone colors are seen and not the default in the final product. I will post this in the FrameMaker forum as well.
    Thanks for your response.
