Problem loading Blank DVD

I used to be able to burn blank DVDs on the MacBook Pro. But now when I insert a blank DVD, it is ejected automatically after half a minute.
I have seen many threads on the internet. Some suggested it might be due to iTunes update. How do I have the macBook recognize the blank DVD properly so that I can burn data on it.
I have iTunes version 8.2.1 if that helps. Help in getting this issue resolved is very much appreciated. I am able to work with data DVDs properly.

I would suggest you ask this question in the Optical Drive and your MacBook Pro forum. This forum is for questions about Mail and Address Book in Mac OS X and so not the forum where you'll be most likely to get a quick answer.
Regards.

  • Problem getting blank DVDs to show up on desktop or in iTunes

    Hello,
I have been trying to burn playlists in itunes onto a blank dvd. I can burn CDs, but when I try to insert a blank DVD, it checks media and spits it back out. Neither will my MAC show the blank dvd on my desktop when I insert it outside of iTunes. I have an internal DVD drive and an external one....same story!!??
The very last time I tried to burn a DVD in iTunes, it started, but then I got some strange message about the spool running out?? I've never seen it before.
    My DVD drives are a Yamaha CRW2100E and a Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-1600D
Also, the drive keeps opening and closing...with or without a DVD in it. Again...it works for CDS!!!
I have verified and repaired my preferences. Any ideas as to what could be wrong?
    Thanks,
    John

Most likely your external DVD burner is causing a problem, disconnect it and reboot.
Try a different brand of media, handle only the edges.

  • Leopard problem loading a DVD on the machine it was burnt on ??

I burnt a DVD+R today at the "max possible" speed. After it finished I tried to watch it on the Mini - it claimed the disc was damaged. So I thought "Drat, coaster" and made another. That one, having been ejected after the burn, was refused loading by the drive. Rather than burning a third, I tried both with the DVD player connected to my TV - both played fine.
Now, I see on some forum that "this is a known Leopard problem". Anyone know anything about that?

Burning at the max possible speed is a sure path to poor finished disk. It's recommended that you burn at the slowest speed possible to produce the best disk possible. Also those in the know here recommend Verbatim DVD-R disks as the best you can use. It has the highest concentration of dyes in the various layers. What brand disk are you using.
Also I suggest you save the project to a disk image before burning. That way you can preview the project by mounting the disk image and playing it with DVD Player. If it plays OK on the computer then you can narrow the problem to the media.

  • I need assistance in burning an imovie to a DVD.  I've done this before, but am having problems this go around.  When I get to the import section and insert the blank dvd it runs a few seconds and ejects it.  Any ideas?

I am struggling with getting the imovie I just created to burn onto a DVD.  I have done this before, I'm following the tutorial for imovie '09 and it isn't working after several attempts.  Any suggestions?  When I get to the import phase and insert the blank dvd it runs a few seconds and then spits it out.

My TV digital optical out is hooked up to my stereo digital optical port 2 without any 5.1 problems either, sort of.
My BP530 is hooked up to my stereo digital coax to digital coax but I cannot get any 5.1 sound at all. Not through any of the digital channels on the stereo at all.
The player only comes through as standard stereo through all 4 speakers and I am not sure if it is coming through the base speaker at all.
I have tried every setting on both the TV and the blue ray player to no avail. I have even tried to not use the digital on my blue ray but when the stereo is set to play from my tv optical I still don't get 5.1 sound.
When I do not use the TV optical out but I do use the digital coax out from the DVD player I still cannot play my DVDs in 5.1. I have new HDMI 15gbps HDMI cables and a new digital coaxial cable so I don't think it is a cable thing.
The real question is how do I get to hear my blue ray and DVD discs in 5.1 sound? Will this work if I exchange my blue ray player for a Denon 3D blue ray or other player?

  • Problem with leopard DVD loading in PowerPC G4

Hi having problems installing Leopard DVD on Mac G4 desk top - 1GHz PowerPC G4 (3,6), 1MB L3 Cache, 768 MB Ram.
    A few of the details:
    1) I have installed Leopard on my Laptop and it is running fine and it is a family pack edition DVD.
    2) I wiped the G4 I am trying to install clean and re-loaded the original system software, then loaded to Tiger to see if that was the issue...When I put in the Leopard DVD it doesn't even show as being in the computer. It doesn't come up on the desk top...it doesn't show in the HD...it doesn't make a sound at all when put in the DVD slot...basically, the computer is not recognizing the DVD. I have tried other cd's and DVD's in the drive....everything is working except the Leopard DVD.
    Any ideas?

  • HELP!! Blank DVD problems?

I've never had a problem with this, but today when I desperately needed a DVD burned, DVDSP-2 will not take my blank DVD-R's. Cd's will burn, I can burn on to the blank DVD-R's in other programs, and I can even put my project on a DVD-RW. BUT every time I put in a DVD-R and hit Build and Format, or Format, or Burn (I've done it in all the orders) it ejects and tells me to put in a blank disc. Then I'll reinsert the disc and get the same thing. I've restarted and reinstalled DVDSP-2. I have it well below the 4.7 GB on the DVD
And for some strange reason I no longer have QuickTime Pro (would this create a problem).
I'm not the greatest on this program-But I've never had a problem.
    Thanks,
    Todd

    Hi Todd,
I 'm experiencing the same problem as you've described above. Did you find out what went wrong and how to fix it?
Any suggestion will be greatly appreciated.

  • HT1583 What blank DVD disks are compatible with burning a film from Idvd on an applemac?

I have just finalized a project in imovie and this message came up on the screen - "Your project exceeds the maximum duration. To burn your DVD, change the encoder setting in the project info window".
I have changed the encoder setting from best fit to Professional but I am having burning the film to a dvd. The computer tells me to load a dvd or my driver is busy - which it isn't it only has a blank dvd disk in it. So I was wondering whether my DVD disks are compatible with the applemac computer!
    HELP!

    Hi
So I was wondering whether my DVD disks are compatible with the applemac computer!
And if You tell - what brand and type You are trying to use - I will be so much easier !
But most often the problem is
    • Do NOT - insert the DVD disk before iDVD specifically as You to do this. As Desktop will catch it and try to format it as a Data-DVD - Not what You want (a Video-DVD) as Data-DVD can not be played on standard DVD-players.
To get it even better I do
    • Use Verbatim - Never Memorex or NoName etc cheap brands (as they don't work OK for Me)
    • DVD-R - as they play on even older DVD-players
    • Burn Speed - set down to x2 or x4 MAX ! - Best IS NOT BEST at all here !

  • Blank DVD not recognized

I built my project in Encore and checked the project for any errors and then clicked on Build to burn the project to a blank DVD, but I get an error message stating, Please insert DVD media, close the tray, and click OK. My DVD burner works with other applications so I know that the driver works. Does anyone have any idea what is going on?

    John,
I have many problems with Adobe CS5. I have problems with CS4 and I have
    nowhere left to turn.
I have problems with Fireworks in both versions.  I can't associate image
file types with Fireworks CS4 or CS5  Adobe Support logged into two of my
computers and they were not able to solve the problem on either of my two 64
bit computers. They created new admin accounts on both machines. No change.
I went back to using Fireworks 8, which fits my work model better anyway
because I had to repeatedly "float windows" to build animated GIF files. I
totally gave up on that one.
I have problems importing Premiere Pro 1.5 project files in to Premiere
CS4 - Most of the AVI source files "cannot be imported" when loading a
prproj file. Error message:- "Cannot link media: selected file cannot be
linked because its type (audio) does not match the original file's type
(audio and video)".  If I import the files they appear as red boxes with
    Chinese writing.
I cannot build a DVD with Encore CS5. 1: click "Build - 2: Pop up screen
shows DVD, says "Drag file" Then the drive door opens and the pop up screen
goes away. 3: "Please insert DVD" - Close. Goes back to 2 with the pop up
    screen (endless loop).
Apparently all Adobe phone and chat support is in India. They keep asking
the same questions over and over and over: "What is the error message" -- I
tell them the error, then they ask "what is the error message"... etc. They
asked me to enter a URL for access - I get a gray screen. They said use a
different browser. I loaded the same URL in three other browsers, same
result. Then there was a "server error". I asked that they email me the URL
in case I wasn't understanding it.. I was told they do not have access to
email until after they have failed to solve a problem. Now that's logical!
Well, After Effects works, at least.  Dreamweaver "works" but they've just
managed to make it more difficult to use. They took things out that should
have been left alone. It now takes several steps to do what took one step in
CS3. The audio editing program distorts with my $80 USB microphone.
What am I to do at this point? I spent a lot of money and all I got was a
bunch of problems that nobody in India seems to have a clue how to fix. I am
informed that there is no one connected with Adobe support who speaks
English well enough to understand or be understood.
Sales (chat and phone) got my order wrong four times in a row, and when they
finally got it right they shipped it the wrong day.
AMD 64 - Windows XP Pro (4GB), Windows 7/32 Pro (4GB), Windows Vista Home
    Premium (4GB).
I'm building a new machine (Windows 7/64 Pro, 16GB RAM, AMD Phenom II x6).
Maybe something will work on it.
Needless to say, I am very disappointed with my large "investment" in Adobe.

  • Itunes 8 Makes Vista lockup when inserting a blank DVD

After upgrading to iTunes 8.0 my PC will now freeze if I put in a blank DVD, the only way past this freeze is to hit the power button. I have burned blank DVDs in the past with no problem. After upgrading to iTunes 8 I can't even insert a blank DVD in my machine without it locking up
Does anyone have a fix? I cant uninstall iTunes since I don't have a backup of my music.

iTunes performance on Windows has always been lousy and seems to keep getting worse. I am uncertain if your conspiracy theories are well founded, though every time I load this piece of bloatware I have to admit the thought crosses my mind.
What I can't get over is how the new version seems to dominate my machine... demanding all its resources. When it's syncing or downloading content my CPU is at between 95 and 100% for the duration. I also love how when it is processing 'DRM Free' content from the iTunes plus store it maxes out your CPU and takes forever. What is it processing?! These are supposed to be unencumbered files -- but they sure encumber my PC when they are being processed.
I am certainly not about to buy a Mac; however, I do have a significant investment in Apple products and would like to see a resolution to this downward spiral in performance in the PC version of the iTunes application.
Is anybody listening? Your next release should have +no extra features+ and simply be a performance and stability release for your Windows customers who I would be surprised if they didn't eclipse Mac users in terms of numbers.

  • URGENT: MBPro Superdrive can't recognize blank DVDs

Hi I have this MacBook Pro (Model version 3,1) purchased last August and I am covered by AppleCare since this July. I currently wanted to burn some data into blank DVD+/-RWs through Toast Titanium, but failed. Sometimes Finder recognizes the existence of a blank DVD inside the drive, but most of the time it just doesn't at all and ejects my blank DVD. In Toast, whenever I tried to burn the data, which is like 4.3GB worth, it "completes" the process at the blink of an eye, which means it didn't burn anything at all.
I've tried multiple DVDs and brands and it just won't work. I have also tried resetting PRAM but to no avail.
This is very annoying since I have to burn the data and mail the DVD out within these 3 days, so it's quite urgent and I didn't expect this to happen since I seldom use the Superdrive and I've been very tender with the slot-loading.
If anyone could help or refer me to a previously-dealt similar case, I would be very glad. Thanks.

Woops! I just realised that my 1st post to this topic didn't get posted so my subsequent one (which is the one listed) doesn't really make sense.....
......anyway, I was probably moaning about the drive with some specifics. Yep, it was cd reading/burning that was the main infuriating problem and had my visit to the genius bar this morning. The guy tested the drive through his operating system and its still didn't work so yes, he said the drive is useless. Only 2 years old and not overused at all but I do have a slight dent on the casing near the drive which may or may not have made any difference. He said to buy an external rather than replacing the internal which I did - a LaCie d2 and have just raced through loads of old music cds which is great and backed up lots of stuff to cd which is great too. And its fast.
More money I know but couldn't stand the frustration anymore and its a result and no more time wasting.

  • ITunes Thinks my Blank CD is a Blank DVD

I tried burning a music CD for the first time since installing iTunes on Windows 8 x64, even though windows tells me that the disc is a CD-R, iTunes pops up a message saying "You have inserted a blank DVD but originally selected a CD format.  Are you sure you wish to create a data DVD instead?"  I have rebooted, multiple times, uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes, still the same problem.

Same problem. Just got a new Windows 8 machine and loaded iTunes 11.0.2.26 on the machine.  After days of importing, syncing, etc... I can NOT burn a single CD.  I am using CD-R and iTunes is reading them as data DVD's.
This is very frustrating. Anyone with a solution to the iTunes error?

  • Superdrive won't recognize blank DVDs

This problem sounds similar to several I've seen here, but appears to be different, hence a new topic.
My PB has been in to Apple for repairs "several" times, and has multiple logic boards replaced and the DVD drive replaced at least 2x in the past 12 months.
I have the CD and DVD prefs both set to "ask". CD media immediately pops up the "You inserted a blank CD." dialog, so I know the drive is online and working. CDs with content load and run fine.
DVDs do not. Some DVDs burned on my 15" iMac read fine, while others get ejected or have read errors. Trying to burn off my nearly full internal disk to data DVDs, I've tried Disk Utility and Toast, and it doesn't matter. I get the same result. The program asks for a writable DVD; I insert a blank DVD; The drive churns for awhile; I hear a beep every so often while it is churning; The DVD is ejected without ever being seen by the Finder, Disk Utility or Toast.
I hadn't tried to burn a DVD since it last came from the shop, so I do not know if this specific drive ever worked for burning, but previous drives all worked fine. The fact that the DVDs never register anywhere I can see before getting ejected is just weird.
Is there some software config problem here, or should I just take the PB back to Apple and say, it doesn't work. Help. This is pretty frustrating.
It's not the DVD media, because it works fine in the iMac, and my other PB.
    PB Ti G4 1Ghz 10.4.7 512MB/ 15" iMac G4 800Mhz 10.3.9 256MB   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Although, since when has a DVD that was rated for a higher speed NOT been able to be burned at a slower/lower speed?
Since always, if the data layer in the disc is sufficiently different from what the drive expects. In a high-speed drive, a disc with a high speed rating can be burned at any speed within the drive's range, often including very low speeds. But in a low-speed burner, high-speed media may not be usable at any speed, because its data layer is very different from what the drive was designed to work with. You may not be able to see the difference easily, but the drive does, and rejects the disc thinking it's defective.
Back before DVD drives and media were common, this problem arose all the time with people trying to read early CD-RW discs in the CD-ROM drives of older Macs: it couldn't be done. When the speed ratings of CD-R media skyrocketed to 48x and 52x, some CD-ROM drives couldn't read the high-speed CD-R media either, though that problem was less common.
When optical drives generally cost upwards of $200-250, it was hard to tell anyone that the simplest solution was to replace the outmoded drive with something newer and more capable. Now that you can buy a slot-loading high-speed dual-layer DVD burner with all the bells and whistles for under $100, it behooves anyone who can use those capabilities to go ahead and get one. As for me, I've never tried to burn a DVD in my UJ-815, and now that slow media are almost impossible to find, I probably never will. If I decide to burn more than one or two DVDs sometime, I'll replace my drive. You might save yourself some hassle by doing the same.
As for -RW media, I never bother with it: it's way overpriced and too often has problems. I've always had good luck with the cheapest CD-R discs on sale at Costco, Staples, etc. for about 15 cents apiece in large packages. I occasionally burn an archival disc using high-priced 200-year Delkin or MAM-A media, but for the most part, cheapies serve me fine.
