Problem loading Facebook in Safari

I'm having a problem with Facebook and Safari. I think it's a network related issue, but cant understand why it would be. Im at university halls connected via Ethernet.
The webpage misses out backgrounds, buttons and everything graphical on the facebook site, instead loading what looks like a very simplified HTML plain text version of Facebook with everything presented in a single list.
Can anyone help?

Back up all data.
Unlock the Network preference pane, if necessary, by clicking the lock icon in the lower left corner and entering your password. Cllck Advanced, open the DNS tab, and change the server addresses to the following:
          8.8.8.8
          8.8.4.4
That's Google DNS. Click OK, then Apply.
In Safari, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
and confirm. If you’re using another browser, empty the cache. Test. Any difference?
Notes:
1. If you lose Internet access after making the above change to your network settings, delete the Google servers in the  Network preference pane, then select the TCP/IP tab and click Renew DHCP Lease. That should restore the original DNS settings; otherwise restore them yourself. Remember that you must click Apply in order for any changes to take effect.
2. I don't use Google DNS myself, though I have tested it, and I'm not recommending it or any other DNS provider; the server addresses are offered merely for testing purposes. There may be privacy and technical issues involved in using that service, which you should investigate personally before you decide whether to keep the settings. Other public DNS services exist.

  • Mac OS X v10.5.8  problems loading Facebook

I have been having these problems for over a year now.
I am trying to load Facebook on Firefox and I am getting the following  text on the bottom left of my screen.
    waiting for fbstatic-a.akamaihd.net
I have been able to use Firefox for loading and Safari didn't want to work. Now Firefox will not load. Two days in a row now.
    Anyone know what that means?
Safari is stuck also. It says "loading "https://www.facebook.com/", completed 2 of 6 items
It's stuck on number 3. That could be the same thing holding up Firefox.
    I'm using  a Mac OS X v10.5.8
    Any ideas?

    Hi, tough to tell, but...
Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
    If it still doesn't work...
Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712
    10.5, 10.6, 10.7 & 10.8…
System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.
    10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x instructions...
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
    If using Wifi/Airport...
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
For 10.5/10.6/10.7/10.8, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
(There may be better or faster DNS numbers in your area, but these should be a good test).
    Click OK.

  • Problems with Facebook on safari and chrome

Since a few days i am unable to view Facebook on Safari or Chrome.
Just lines with text but no images only question marks.
On top of that unable to open Firefox ( says Unexisting Profile)

Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive & clear caches.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.

  • Problems loading firefox and safari

When I try to open firefox or safari I receive the following error  " The connection was reset"  The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.
This happens with or without my wireless connection.
Does anyone have any clue as to what the problem may be or how to fix it?   it is driving me nuts!  Thanks

as this is happening in either Browser, I suggest you contact your ISP. It is obviously a network problem and not related to Lion.
If you use a router ( wifi or LAN ), try resetting ( rebooting ) that device, so you are assigned a new IP adress.
In OSX you can do this also, go to Systemsettings -> Network, click your connection device ( Ethernet,Wifi,Modem ), go to the advanced settings of the connection, DNS/DHCP there is a button "renew DHCP lease", this will force a new IP adress.
But the router might be the cause if you use that. Basically the router aquires the DHCP settings from the ISP and then assigns IP adresses based on that to all connected machines , regardless of Wifi or Cable.

  • Flash problems on Facebook using Safari

I seem to be having a problem when trying to play YouTube videos embedded on Facebook.
When I click the links, I get a message saying: "Flash Player upgrade required."
and under it, it says, "You need to download and install the lastes version of Adobe Flash Player to view this content"
and also a green button saying "Get Flash Player"
I never had this problem before and thought the plug ins were suppsed to be built into the operating system.
I even tried downloading Flash manually but still it didnt fix it.
    PLEASE HELP

A month ago I started having problems with YouTube videos on Safari.  My problem was not exactly the same as yours, so the solution I found, thanks for this forum, may not work; but this is what I did.
    1)  I reset Safari, deleting the cache and deleting all cookies. I exited Safari.
    2)  I deleted all Flash cookies, using the Flush utility mentioned by Carolyn.  Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be available anymore.  Are there any other utilities available that can perform the same function?  Here's a webpage that discusses how to delete flash cookies manually:  http://osxdaily.com/2009/11/13/delete-flash-cookies/.
    3)  I rebooted the computer.
    4)  I uninstalled Flash player using the Flash uninstaller:  http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/909/cpsid_90906.html.
    5)  I then installed the up-to-date Flash player.
    6)  I ran the Repair Disk Permissions in Disk Utility.
    6)  I re-booted the computer.
Suddenly I was able to watch YouTube videos again.
I suspect you have already done all of this, but it can't hurt to try it again.  Good luck!

  • Problem loading pages on safari.  Each time I load a page it seems to be trying to load the same page multiple times.

I can see the address loading repeatedly on the address line and the page itself loads repeatedly.  The internet is working fine and the other programs on my macbook pro are working fine.

Go step by by step and test.
    Reset Safari.
Click Safari in the menu bar.
From the drop down select "Reset Safari".
    Click "Reset".
    Delete Cookies
Safari > Preferences > Privacy > Cookies and other website data:
    Click “Remove All Website Data”.
    Empty Caches
    Safari > Preference > Advanced
Checkmark the box for "Show Develop menu in menu bar".
Develop menu will appear in the Safari menu bar.
Click Develop and select "Empty Caches" from the dropdown.
Turn off Extensions if any, and launch Safari.

  • Safari fails to load Facebook

    Hi,
For the last 2 months, whenever I try to load Facebook using Safari on my Mac OSX 10.8.2 I receive the folllowing error message:
I would be grateful for any suggestions on how to resolve this. Many thanks.

    v10.8.2 ..
Your OS X software is out of date. Should v10.8.5 which will also update Safari.
Click the Apple  top left in your screen.
From the drop down menu click:   Software Update
Restart your Mac after updates are installed then launch Safari and try Facebook.
If you still have problems ..
From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Privacy tab.
    Click:   Remove All Website Data
    Then delete the cache.
Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If nothing above helped, troubleshoot Safari extensions.
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.
I it's not an extensions issue, try troubleshooting third party plug-ins.
Back to Safari > Preferences. This time select the Security tab. Deselect:  Allow plug-ins. Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that made a difference, instructions for troubleshooting plugins here.

  • Why will my Macbook OSX.10.8.3 not load Facebook?, says Safari cannot access server.

I have a Macbook OSX.10.8.3 It will not load Facebook, says Safari cannot access server; and second, suddenly 2 days ago I cannot use the internet without being attacked by random sites. Each time I click on a site, or choose an option, I want another site opens up. e.g. just now doing this Shards of War  and Adcash just opened when I went between two pages here.

It sounds like you may have run out of free disk space & OSX corrupted something.
Tough without the Install disc, but some things to try...
Does it boot to Single User Mode, CMD+s keys at bootup, if so try...
    /sbin/fsck -fy
Repeat until it shows no errors fixed.
(Space between fsck AND -fy important).
Resolve startup issues and perform disk maintenance with Disk Utility and fsck...

  • Problem accessing Facebook (Safari and Chrome w/ 2 different Macs)

For over a week im having problems accessing facebook and netflix, the timeline does not seem to load properly and some links dont work, im having the same issue using the latest version of chrome and safari. im using two different macbook pros, and both have the same issue, a windows computer in the same network doesnt have those issues. my router is a apple extreme.

Someone here with a similar problem seems to have fixed it by adding some DNS settings:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/15783303#15783303
    To do it:
System Preferences>Network, click on your WiFi connection on the left then click on the Advanced button, select the DNS tab. Under the panel DNS servers click on the '+' sign and insert the numbers 208.67.220.220 - click the '+' again and insert 208.67.222.222
Alternatively to the numbers listed you can use 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
Save the settings - hopefully it'll make a difference.

  • Facebook not loading correctly in Safari

The last few days my Facebook profile has not been loading correctly in Safari. When I first got the phone, all pages would load. Now, every time I click the 'profile' link, only text shows up, no photos or media. I have cleared the cache and history already. At first, this was just my profile, however, now it is doing it to my friends profiles as well.
The main page loads fine with all graphics and such. I have also noticed when I click on 'profile', it constantly adds iphone.facebook to the beginning of the link. Even if I change it, it always loads it.
Anyone know a fix for this? Very annoying.

Don't try to "change" it. They are reading your browser type and directing you to the mobile version of the site. If you don't want it, go to the bottom of the page and choose the link that says load the Full Site. Then the site will act like it does on your computer.

  • Using Firefox 7 loads Facebook very very slowly whereas Firefox 6.0.2 has no problems nor does IE

When I or my family attempt to load Facebook and the apps it either takes forever or not at all to load. Other websites are slow, but not as bad. This happens only when we upgrade to Firefox 7, but when using Firefox 6.0.2 we do not have any problems what so ever.

Reload web page(s) and bypass the cache.
    * Press and hold Shift and left-click the Reload button.
    * Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
    * Press "Cmd + Shift + R" (MAC)
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
