Problem locating files in Lightroom 4

I imported a bunch of cr2s from a pc to a mac osx lion lightroom 4.1.
In the "show all on Hard Drive" I can find a file, but it says that it is missing or offline.
Then I use thelocate in finder. I locate the photo, and still lightroom won't recognize and catalog it.
Help!

I imported a bunch of cr2s from a pc to a mac osx lion lightroom 4.1.
I don't understand this ... photos must be on a hard drive attached to your computer (which I assume is a mac), they can't be on a PC

  • Locating Files in Lightroom 3

I am moving files on my hard drive to get a better structure.  I have no problems with locating most files in Lightroom but I do have a few problems.
I use Keywords for just about all of my photos in Lightroom 3.  Sometimes I click on a Keyword group and it isolates those photos but I am not sure where the photos are located on my hard drive.
Can I click on a photo in Lightroom 3 with a Keyword and learn where it is located on the hard drive so I can reassign it?
    Thanks

Thanks Carl.  That was very helpful.

  • Problem viewing files in Lightroom 2.6

Am using OS Windows 7, 64 bit. Have inages stored on an external USB hard Drive (320 GB Toshiba) and use an 8 GB thumb drive for administrative files. With both devices plugged in I open Lightroom and see the following:
    Catalog>All Photographs: 21,526
    Folders>Home (L:) [thumb]: 19,433 photos
              >Aggie (O:) [Toshiba]:  2,093 photos
Indicator light to left of "Home" is orange.
Indicator light to left of "Aggie" is Black or Green.
Problem One:  The desktop seems to find "Aggie" and then lose her - cycling "On" an "Off" so to speak and for no apparent reason. The drive is not being moved, cables jiggled or anything discernable. This cycling might happen every minute or so. This does not appear to be a function of the drive because I can work in the directory in Explore and drag and drop files, e.g., without any difficulty. So, the question here is -- is this a problem within Lightroom or even in the OS.
Problem Two:  The 19,433 photos that Lightroom indicates as being in the "Home" folder simply are not there! They are, in fact, on "Aggie". I prove this by doing a *.DNG search in the "Home" directory which comes up empty. The 2,093 photos which do show up in "Aggie" where they belong are recent imports -- possibly since upgrading to Windows 7.
    Questions:
        1.   Does anyone have a clue why the hard drive might be dropping out and/or cycling?
         2.  How is it possible that files which are clearly on one drive will show up in Lightroom as being on another drive?
         3.  Why is it that when the indicator light on "Aggie" is Green the folders on that drive still have a "?" beside them?

Maybe I am misunderstanding your terminology, but are you saying you have 19,433 photos on a 8GB drive?
If any folder is showing a ?, then right click on it and locate the folder on the drive.

  • Problem moving files in Lightroom 5 UPDATED AGAIN

    Hello,
I recently changed from LR3 to 5.2 and have a problem I hope someone can help with.
I have a lot of pictures taken on a trip and have created somenew  folders within the original folder to place them into categories. When I drag files from the main folder into one of the new ones Lightroom creates a new file in the new folder , but also  leaves  one in  the original one. If I then delete the file from the original folder LR deletes it from the new one as well.
I have checked the preferences and catalog settings and read the instruction PDF but can't find anything to help.
I should point out that the catalog was created in LR3 and imported into LR5 and has behaved fine in all other respects.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
    Graham
UPDATE: I've just discovered that it is only that particular original folder that's affected. I am able to move files around into and out of other mother folders OK. Perhaps the folder I'm having thr problem with has been corrupted in some way?

Further Update: If I open Adobe Bridge I can move the files around as I please, so I guess I can use this as a workaround. (Couldn't do that in Windows Explorer as you can't view DNG files there). I'd still be grateful if anyone can shed light on this. I'll investigate further tomorrow and post again if I find an answer.

I'm also having an issue with degraded exports. Here is a screencap of the RAW file
Here's a screen capture of the exported image after I've re-imported it into lightroom. This is a JPG with sRGB and 100% quality. It's resized on export with 3264pixel long edge at 240dpi.
Here's a screen capture of the same JPG viewed in Windows Photo Viewer, but it looks the same in web browsers too.
What changed? Why is there so much dark black color running into the photo? It's like a printer is printing too much black. I want to export it so that it looks the same in all other viewers as it does in photoshop.

  • Unusual Problem importing files in Lightroom 3

I am totally delighted with Lightroom 3 on my new MacPro, BUT I am experiencing a minor but mysterious problem when I download and import files. Here is what happens.
In the right-hand panel, under Destination, I select the folder where I want the downloaded files to appear. An arrow indicates that folder, in most cases a folder for the current year, in whch all my downloaded files appear in sepaerat folders for each day's shoot. I have also clicked the "Into Subfolder" box, and selected to organize the files by date, selecting a certain date format in the second box.
At this point, Lightroom 3 displays a greyed-out Subfolder within my selected destination folder, named in the way I have chosen, presumably showing me where the folder will appear once the import is complete. I then click import and Lightroom imports the photos.
But when I return to the grid view and look to see where that day's Subfolder of newly imported images actually shows up, I get a surprise. It is never in the destination folder I selected and that was marked with that small whit arrow marker. Instead Lightroom has placed it several steps up in my folder hierarchy, actually in the root level where all my image folders and subfolders start from.
But since that is not where I wanted this folder to appear, the first thing I try is to click and hold on the misplaced newly imported subfolder and try to move it to the folder where I had wanted it to appear. But I get a message saying that it is impossible to move because a folder of that name already exists where I wanted to move it. Sure enough, when I look at the folder structure in my Macintosh finder I see that the import is indeed in the correct place, with the new subfolder and files renamed as I specified in the Import dialog. But it doesn't show up that way in Lightroom 3.
I have even discovered a slow workaround to get it to appear where it really, already is. I select the newly imported but misplaced folder of images, and remove it from the catalog. Then I go to the folder in which I wanted it to appear, and click on Synchronize Folder in the Library menu, and then, final, in what is actually a second import, that folder appears, and in the correct spot.
This happens again and again, consistently. I am running SnowLeopard, of course, on a very new MacPro. What on earth can be happening. I find this very strange. Any suggestions or explanations would be greatly appreciated. Is this a known bug, or something just happening to me?
    Thank you, Lito

Thanks for your post and sorry you're also experience this two-folders-in-LR but only-one-at-the-Finder-level problem.
It looks like I've finally solved this problem, but I suspect I did so the hard way ... if I even understand where in the process things were fixed. As previously posted, when I tried to "move" one folder in LR into the other, LR got confused and deleted the entire contents of one of them! This was the existing one I had been using. Thousands of photos gone! I searched the hard drive and even used disk recovery software but, no, they had vanished. I luckily retrieved these photos from a backup drive, so that's good, but it makes one nervous to fiddle around with this particular problem.
Anyway, BEFORE I imported the new photos from the back-up drive, I first deleted LR prefs and in the process stumbled upon old LR prefs from LR2 and LR3 Beta. Cleaned them all out -- including LR prefs -- and wondered if that had anything to do with the problem. Then rather than Import>Copy the photos, I worked at the Finder level and copied them into position in the <2010> folder, retaining the month and date folder structure. This is at the Finder level. Then in LR, I used Import>Add and the photos properly were added to the existing <2010> folder (the newer of the two that was still there after the disaster ... the new one that LR is intent on importing into). It all works now.
Hope I've written that so you can follow along. Don't know if that will help you in your situation. If you have questions, please let me know.
Good luck, but don't work without a backup, OK?
    Best,
    Bradley

  • Problem Locating Files From HARDDRIVE

    So here is my story:
I had a 500GB harddrive which I had my ITUNES music folder. All of my music was nice and sorted and organized and all that jazz, I even went on to rate songs and make playlists for all my 500GBs worth of music. But then my harddrive got filled up so I got a 1TB harddrive. I dont really remember how I did it, but I was able to transfer all my music into that harddrive and keep all my playlists and ratings and play counts still intact.
I kept my older harddrive still connected and made sure my new itunes music folder location was going to my new harddrive..
No problems, until recently i deleted the contents of my old harddrive.. Now, when I click on a song that was added before I got the new harddrive, it wont play and shows the little "!" and would I like to locate..
Now all the songs I have are in the new harddrive as I can easily find their location, however, finding 74,000+ songs individually is a huge pain...
someone please help, as I'm afraid that I may have done something wrong in error..

  • Problem locating files which are using storage?

Afternoon, I'm trying to clear my Macbook air's storage. (I have emptied my recycled bin)
I can't find the files which my mac attributes these figures to. For example i've completely moved all my moves from my mac to my server, deleted all movies out of itunes and removed any MP4 files from Iphoto... I'm at a loss to how i've still go 9.36gb on my mac?
Same again with 'other' storage. I've deleted all large files apart for one coming to 20gb so I should have no more that 30gb, where is my mac finding 76.91gb?
In regards to my photo's, I can't seem to move them all onto my Icloud photo stream. I've paid for extra storage, I've set it up so that all new pictures go onto it but I can't seem to get my whole library on it. I've tried highlighting the images and dragging them across but this doesn't seem to work.
Any ideas on these problems would be very helpful.
    Thanks James

  • Having problems locating files

    Hey guys,
Im working with a flash program using actionscripts, the
program does this, once I press an area of the graphic it loads up
a profile from a html file on my server. Different areas of graphic
bring up different html files. I now have a new file and location
but I cant find where I am supposed to put in the new file location
in the JavaScript, basically I want to edit it so that I an just
change this one part and have it load up the new files.
    Any help would be appreciated

I've read that and a few other related articles. Those are for the database ADR homes, which i'm relatively comfortable with:
You goto ORACLE_BASE for the database oracle user (ie. /u01/app/oracle), cycle through all results in adrci exec="show homes", and do a purge -age XXXXX. Either that, or wait the 7-day rolling purge period in which ADR automatically purges for a SHORTP policy (30 days) or the LONGP policy (365 days).
I'm talking about the grid user. That means the +ASM instance's logs, CRS data/logs, the listener, and scan_listener entries.
my general understanding is for the grid user, adr homes typically reside under:
/u01/app/grid (which is the typical ORACLE_BASE)
/u01/app/11.2.0/grid/log (which is the typical ORACLE_HOME/log)
.. but there are a ton of other things.
MOS 1368695.1 spells out the clusterware log locations and some of their archival policies:
    <GRID_HOME>/log/$HOST/alert$HOST.log
    <GRID_HOME>/log/$HOST/client
    <GRID_HOME>/log/$HOST/racg*
    <GRID_HOME>/log/$HOST/srvm
    <GRID_HOME>/rdbms/audit
    <GRID_HOME>/log/diag/*
I've been told by ora support that these dir's are not auto-rotated.. have to be manually handled by the DBA. Some of these dir's under $GRID_HOME/log/<server_name>/ . . ., and they are owned by both ROOT and GRID users.  So I was wondering how the rest of the community is dealing with it? How large have people typically made their /u01/app filesystems?  Have they done purging via a cron script under the grid user or root user?

  • Locating and reinstalling missing files in Lightroom 1.4 ....

I would like to know how to re-install missing files once you locate a missing folder or set of files, I don't understand what to do next (once you have found the files) in order to put the file back into it's original location so the files will work in Lightroom (i.e. change the "red" wording back into "white wording" in the folder column). Initially I click onto the red word and a"locate missing folder" window pops up indicating the files original location at the bottom of the window. I have tried putting that file back into it's original location but nothing changes in Lightroom.
Also I notice that the file will still be listed in the library so when I have tried to just drag that fie back into Lightroom, I am unable to because a window pops up saying the file is already in the catalog. At which point it ask me if I would like to see that file in the Library. Once I see the file in the library I have to delete it in order to re-install the original file.
EEEEKKKKKS there must be a simpler way than this just to re-locate files and make the work again ????? I have tried finding information in Adobe's support manual for Lightroom but can't seem to find the answer. I have also tried using other sources like Scott Kelby's book on Lightroom.
This seems like such an obvious problem that would occur with all users so I know I must missing or overlooking something here. I love Lightroom but this is one of the little frustrations I have with the program. I wish a better manual came with the program when I bought it......
I would appreciate any help anyone has on this topic..... Wesley Wong

  • CS2 problem with 5D MKII RAW files from Lightroom 2.2

Ok, this one is weird. I have tried it on two different computers with the same resulting problem. If I convert a full size RAW 5D MkII to Tiff in the new Lightroom 2.2, then bring it into CS2 and covert it to 8-bit and try to save as JPG, it always comes up with a program error. I tried an sRAW file with the same process and it worked fine.
Just to make sure I did have something else messed up, I converted in DPP to tiff and then went to CS2 and saved as JPG just fine.
Anyone else try this and see a problem? Looks like it's a combination of a problem with the new Lightroom, plus CS2.
It almost seems like CS2 doesn't have enough memory to convert the file to jpeg. I have had this program error before in CS2, but with much larger files. The 5D MKII should not overrun memory.

This is a known bug in CS2 where it trips up because of the (valid) metadata written by Lightroom. You need to delete the xmp metadata written by Lightroom from the file before saving as jpg or export from lIghtroom with minimize metadata checked.

  • Renaming files in Lightroom 3 Upon Import (problems)

I can having trouble importing files into Lightroom name where I want to custom name them - sequentially. I am importing the data from one folder on my hard drive to the folder that contains all of my lightroom files. I am able to import and rename some files in folders with ease. Others I am told Lightroom 3 couldn't name them. Why? If I try to import and rename in LR2 I have no problems. I am basically taking a Nikon generated file, say DSC0001.NEF and renaming it to Ireland 07-30-08.NEF. Lightroom 3 can't do it. Does anyone know why? Thanks.

    Hi Franz,
Let me clarify a couple things (I hope Adobe is listening):
    1.     I am merely copying and renaming on import. I am not moving the original files.
    2.     Files are created in my TO: directory, they just contain the origianl filename.
    3.     I tried the exact same procedure with LR2 and it works fine.
It appears there may be a bug in the software.
    Eric
