Problem locating photos in LR5 after batch renaming them

Hello
I imported and edited several hundred photos. Then, I batch  renamed several dozen photos using Bulk Rename utility. Naturally, LR showed an exclamation mark icon in the upper right corner of each of the missing(renamed) pics. After clicking on the exclamation mark I choose "Locate" and manually located the photo. On the bottom I checked the "find nearby photos" checkbox. LR located the missing photo but doesn't see the other renamed photos. I think the "find nearby photos" is only useful when you move photos to a different folder, not when you rename them. Any solutions for my situation?

Yeah, I guess it's the only way. Thank you. This is silly, but for some reason I thought I wasn't able to batch rename in LR

  • Bridge removing file extension after batch rename

    Hi All,
I've been having trouble with what appears to be a problem with Bridge in Photoshop CS2. I'm well aware this is an older version but, in this case, I don't think that should matter. Here is my situation:
After batch renaming jpeg files, I've had a problem with Bridge simply stripping off the file extension on all the newly renamed files. This never happens right away...always later. In other words, I'll batch rename a folder full of photos without issue, note that the rename was successful, and then return to that same folder a short time later to find white thumbnails and missing file extensions. This has happened exactly the same way on two different computers - and always with the delay.
This is getting to be very annoying. Has anyone had or heard of a similar issue? Thanks very much...

  • No photos after batch rename

    MacBook
    CS3
    iPhoto '08
I tried to rename some photos in iPhoto and now i can't see them. Every time I open iPhoto it tells me that it is rebuilding thumbnail caches yet still no photos. This is what I did:
In Bridge went to Batch Rename.
    Rename in same folder
    New filenames
    Sequence Letter Uppercase
    Date Time Date Created YYYYMMDD
    Text
    Sequence Number 2
I did this and it renamed the iPhoto thumbnail bridge. I then changed the filename back to "iPhoto" and now there are no photos.
How do I get them back.

Once you upgrade to Yosemite you need to upgrade the iPhoto application to iPhoto 9.6 from the App Store.
Also, if your previous version of iPhoto was iPhoto 7 (08) or earlier you'll need to download and run the iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.1 on the library before iPhoto 9.6 an open it.  The updater will be located in the Applications/Utilities folder.
You iPhoto Library should be located in your Home/Pictures folder.  It is there and how big is it according to the Finder?  If you're still having problems connect the two Macs to gather via ethernet cable, Target Disk Mode,  Transferring files between two computers using FireWire  or other direct method and just do a direct  copy, i.e. drag the library from the 2009 Mac to the Pictures folder of the 2012 Mini.

  • Original pictures deleted after batch rename in Bridge

    Hi,
I have just gone through the process of renameing photos in my collection using batch rename in Bridge.
I have just gone into the wastebin on my computer and all my pictures (with the original filenames) are in there?
Is this right? As far as I can tell I have all my photos, with their new file names, its just the original photos that are in the bin.
Can I safely delete all the photos in the watebin?
    Thanks
    Tom

Collections are a little different that images in folders as they are not images, just an address to find image.  I just did a test rename of file in collection it it renamed image, nothing in trash heap.
So can't say why you are seeing what you are seeing.  Are you using folders in Bridge, and the folder is not write protected?

  • Problem emailing photos from iPhoto after installing OS 10.5.1

Since installing Leopard I have had problems emailing photos from iPhoto. I can send from my laptop to another Mac without problem BUT when I try to email pix from iPhoto to a PC user or to post on my Google Group board it only sends the 'title' I gave it in iPhoto or the 'PC134567.JPG' the camera assigns it. I have tried exporting and attaching to emails but that doesnt work either .. at least not all the time. AND when I do send them from iPhoto to my office PC they arrive NOT as an attachment but are embedded in the email message .. seriously what the heck is going on and why is this not working the way it used to pre-OS 10.5.1? What changed? How can I make this work the way it used to?
Thanks for reading and hopefully solving my problem

Thank you again .. I got home and immediately tried the fix you suggested .. sent a 'test' email and it worked perfectly.

  • CS4 Bridge not returning to selected thumbnail after batch rename

Using Bridge CS4.  Directory has several hundred RAW files.
I grab some images from the middle of the bunch and do a batch rename.  Sometimes Bridge returns the thumbnail display to the ones that were selected, sometimes it doesn't.  When it doesn't, I have to scroll back down to my selected images. I can't figure out what is or isn't set that gets Bridge to return to my selected images instead of leaving me at the start of the thumbnails......

  • HT204120 i deleted the photos from the location on my pc after i got them on my iphone so i am unable to deselect and remove them as per you helped me ?? what can i do further

i was somewhat helped. but still i am getting problem to delete my photos that i synced last night via itunes on my pc. problem is i deleted the photos from the location on pc after getting them on my device, so i am unable to resync them, deselect and remove them as per i was helped by this communities i am new to use apple products so please help me as it has taken lot of memory in my device/

you say:- You need to keep the photos on the computer, since the ones that are synced to the iPhone are of reduced resolution and cannot be moved anywhere else. You can always remove the other folder if you do not want it.
BUT I DONT HAVE THE PHOTOS ON MY DEVICE(MY PC) I DELETED THEM.
further i tried this:-If you do not have another folder of photos that you can sync, then create an empty folder on the computer and sync that folder. That will delete the photos from the iPhone, then you can go back to iTunes, remove the checkmark by the empty folder and sync again, removing that folder from the iPhone.
Trying this it just removed the checkmark nothing else it did
i think i have no other option rather than to keep those synced photos on my device>

  • Photo titles disapear after batch change

After I batch change the title on several photos the title line goes blank - iPhoto does not display any information under the photos that were just changed.  But the rest of the photos in the event still have the correct titles.  Also - the information box (lower left corner of the Iphoto screen) shows the 'title' line but it is blank.  i am using iPhoto '09 v 8.1.2.  what is happening and how do i fix it?

No, i haven't run any cleaner apps. Should I?
No, that is unnecessary on a Mac and can lead to problems.
Try to rebuild your iPhoto library, see: iPhoto 6 and later: Rebuilding the iPhoto library
I hope somebody else will drop in. I have not used iPhoto 8.1.2 in a long time, so I cannot experiment.

  • ITunes is reverting filenames on playback after i rename them

Hello all, in order to clarify exactly what's happening and to reduce incorrect solutions being suggested i have to go in detail, sorry for the length.
My issue is similar to what is described here Automatically Renaming Songs and here Itunes renames files when they're played. The annoying thing is that both those threads are locked and were never resolved anyhow.
I am using iTunes 12.0.1.26 in OSX Yosemite. iTunes uses 2 files to store database info "iTunes Library.itl" and "iTunes Library.xml" both act as backups to the other should either be corrupted.
My files are not being renamed because iTunes is grabbing info from the web, or any of the its checkboxes have permitted it to change files etc. It is changing the files using the information stored in "iTunes Library.itl" or "iTunes Library.xml" once it realises there are inconsistencies against the data within either of the those files.
Now i have tried to rename all my tracks from the filename using a script on Doug's Scripts called "File Rename" you can get it here (along with hundreds of other excellent scripts in case you didnt know  >> http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=filerenamer) which grabs a file and renames it in whichever format you specify using tags within iTunes (in my case [song] - [artist].extension) from its root location. Now the script works fine and renames the files. The issue is whenever i playback a track, it defaults the filename back to its original name held in either or the aforementioned files above.
I have asked my own programmer to even try and hack iTunes  and write me a custom script, which he did, and it worked.. however yet again, iTunes insists on renaming all the files back on playback or application relaunch. My programmer also noted that even after corrupting the iTunesLibrary.itl (which you must do in order to force iTunes to use info in the iTunesLibrary.xml file where his script actually affects the information) iTunes automatically rechecks its own tickboxes and begins renaming the files based on whichever sources it finds available (web, iTuneslibrary.itl etc).
There are reasons why i need to change each of my tracks filenames that i don't want to go into here, so please don't suggest otherwise. I also need to make the changes via iTunes in order to keep all the tags, ratings and comments that i have built up over the years and ensure the newly named files are linked to the correct record in the database file so i am kind of at the mercy of iTunes here.
If anyone know of a way to stop iTunes from doing this annoying rename then please let me know. It will be a dream for me to have consolidated all my songs in the format stated above and in organised from root level so that i can easily find and play them with or without the need of iTunes once i export my whole library to 1TB WD Passport drive in order to play at some professional gigs (i DJ in clubs etc.).
Many thanks in advanced for reading and any help you can offer!

The threads are locked because they are very old (date from 2009).  Anything in them would have been discussed under the context of the iTunes version at the time.
The .itl is not a backup for the .xml, nor the other way around.  The .xml is in a format that can be used by other applications but is only about 90% the content information of the .itl which is the primary library file.
I think despite what you say the files are being changed from the web. Something in purchased media (I am pretty sure this has only happened with purchased media) is periodically checking back with the iTunes Store and resetting the tags in the iTunes library file but not in the actual media files (metadata are stored in both).  I haven't seen a truly systematic diagnosis of the issue (I use an old iTunes and have no iTunes account so I can't test anything myself).  There are temporary workarounds but tags will still revert after a time.  I don't think this tag reverting has anything to do with checkboxes in preferences.  It does it because of the source of the file..

Send feedback to Apple about this so they know it is an issue they need to investigate:

Don't expect an immediate solution (and don't be too optimistic since this was already happening before iTunes 12 was released and no cure appeared in that release) but it adds one more voice to make them aware of the problem and maybe they will do something about it.

  • Having a problem printing photos from Iphoto.  Seems that "themes" are required in order to accomplished the task.  Where are the Themes found?

Where can I find the themes, possibly formats, for printing photos for Iphotos?  Are these still being used or have they been upgraded to another program such as ilife?

You'll need to reinstall iPhoto.  If you MBP came with Lion preinstalled move the iPhoto applicaiton to the Trash bin in the Dock, go to the App Store, go to Purchases, download and reinstall iPhoto.

  • Why are my rejected photos still visible after I delete them?

I am not an advanced LR user by any means, so I'm hoping I can get some insight here. When I go through my photos, I first reject them. I take a look at all of my rejected ones, then I select the "delete rejected photos" option and then "remove from disk."
When I go to my "All Photographs" collection, I can still see all of my rejected photos, except they are grayed out. Why is this? I don't want to see them anymore, I'd like them to be gone forever!
Any help you can give would be great. Thank you!

I think we will need some more information.
What do you mean by "All Photographs" collection?
    Is it a regular collection?
    Is it a smart collection?
When you created the collection did you choose to create virtual copies?

    Hello there,
Does anyone know of a way to get LR5 to batch rename all it’s photos to CAPTURE DATE+CAPTURE TIME+ORIGINAL FILENAME?
I know the data is in there somewhere but my DATE+ORIGINAL FILENAME import rename preset has named all our photos with the date photos were imported not created (eeek!)

If you are using Macintosh, you could also try purchasing A Better Finder Rename 9—I love it, and you can create droplets for all your file-renaming chores.
Beware: such app is best used *before* importing.
If you rename (outside Lightroom) after importing, your files will go missing and you'll have to re-link (or god forbid: re-import). Maybe that will be OK with you, and maybe it won't..
Also, such app has no idea what the original filename was, so in this case it would not do what the OP wants.

  • Quandary with batch rename  of photos

This seems like it ought to be a simple task, but I'm stumped. I've got a couple hundred photos in an Event that I want to rename with a title + number. This part is easy using iPhoto's "Batch Change".
But then some time later, I need to be able to add more photos to that Event and rename them with the same scheme. The problem is that the Batch Change doesn't let me specify what number I want the new photos to start at. It just starts them at 1 so I end up with duplicate titles within the event. Is there some clever way to do this that I haven't found yet?
The Batch Change feature does allow for renaming the Title to match the Filename, but I've read that messing about in the Finder (to actually rename the files themselves) is a big NO-NO, so I don't think I want to go that route. But I haven't been able to find anything within Automator or any plug-ins that will allow for this changing of the photo title while specifying a starting index number.
Hoping someone can point me to a way to do this. Thanks.

I thought I'd follow up here in case others run into this. It turns out that you can achieve this as long as you sort it properly before the rename. An easy way to do this is to rename the newly added photos to something alphabetically after the set that is already in the event. Then just sort by title, Select All in the Event and do the batch rename again. All the original photos will retain their original titles (including the appended number) and the new ones will get new names that begin numerically after those.
It would still be way better if the batch change just let you specify the number you want to start with.

  • Batch rename of queries ?

We are starting our upgrade of HCM 8.9 to HCM 9.0. Our end users have written over 10,000 queries with very little naming convention - usually just starting with their initials. Our University is 'Sonoma' so we want end-users to rename the ones they want to keep to start the first 4 chars with 'SON_' and make them public. This way as the DBA my job is easier to put them into a project and move them to 9.0. end-users complain that it's 'too much work', because some of them have written hundreds of queries.
Is there a way to batch rename them using a SQL script - the problem I see is that there are many query tables they exist in, eg, PSQRYDEFN, PSQRYFIELD, PSQRYRECORD, and many views also so I am worried that trying to rename them by adding 'SON_' to the beginning would miss some tables and screw things up.
I would be interested to hear other folks query strategies during upgrades.
    Thanks,
    Allen Cunningham
    DBA Sonoma State University

I guess my first response would be, Do you really want 10,000 public queries? In our environment only the development team and those functional users that are associated with the development team have the ability to create public queries. Once a query is made public, it's the development team's responsibility to support it. No doubt you've got at least a couple of users that have created some poorly written queries. You probably don't want to support those.
Secondly, upgrades are a time for clean up. At the very least I think I would go ahead and ask them to review their own queries. If they find that they have a query that is useful to other users, offer to make that public for them and have the team support it. I would also have them consider deleting queries that they no longer use. In reality, we didn't care about the naming conventions for private queries. The whole idea of the convention is to be able to separate our queries from the delivered ones. With private queries it's pretty easy to make that distinction.
Third, I would categorize the queries more than just prefixing them with your organization. We are on an HRMS version so our queries are prefixed by HR, PR, TL, BA, etc. A little more categorization to the queries should be helpful so you don't have to scan 10,000 queries for the one you are looking for. Of course I would only do this for the public queries.
In our upgrade from 8.3 to 9.0 I ran each of our public queries for efficiency and validity. It was over 1,000 queries and took several weeks to get through them all. After that we went back to some of our power users and offered to assist them with queries that would no longer work (i.e. tables that no longer existed in the system).
One final thought. Have the users make the changes in your existing production database now. During our upgrade some effort was made to rename production queries. In one of our final copies of production we had these new queries come in that we had to redo simply because the name had changed.
