Problem MacBook and BenQ Projector
Hi everyone.
Hopefully someone can help me with this. I just bought a MacBook 2.0Ghz 2 Gig RAM and I tried to have it work with a BENQ PB2140 projector that I have. I used a mini-DVI to S-Video adapter (from Apple) to connect both, uisng the S-video port of the projector. Unfortunately, the screen always flicker, sometimes just a few lines at a times, sometimes much worst. I tried all resolutions and scan rates (50 and 60), etc. I just managed to make it work once, after much trial and error. Of course, upon restart (to make sure that I could duplicate my success) the problem came back and I was never able to fix it. As I wanted to use the MacBook (otherwise a stellar machine: my best notebook ever) to make presentations to clients on the road, I am a bit frustrated and could use some help here guys...Thanks in advance.
MacBook Mac OS X (10.4.7) 2.0 Ghz, 2 G RAM
MacBook Mac OS X (10.4.7) 2.0 Ghz, 2 G RAM
If you have used this projector with another computer
before, is there any clue from those settings?
I have used the Apple adapter to run S-video into a
high definition TV. As I recall, I bumped the
resolution up from whatever it initially defaulted to
(800 x 600?) to the highest it would allow (1024 x
768).
Is NTSC versus PAL an issue? That's on the Color tab
in Display settings.
Thanks for the reply. I know the BENQ works great with the S-Video port of a Toshiba Satellite A70 that I would like to sell to keep only the MacBook I will check into the NTSC and PAL thing but I think I already fiddled with that. Ans yes I believe that the highest resolution the BENQ takes is 1024 by 768.

Macbook Pro and Vga projector problem
Ok this is probably an easy question for someone clued in on apple tech.
I have a macbook pro 15 (2010) I connect to my classroom projector via a vga cable to the mini-port on the side. When the projector shows the picture it is not what i want to show, but a blank homescreen. If i go back to my macbook and drag the document or movie all the way to the right, so it is off the screen then it shows up on the projector screen. After it shows up I can use it, but have to use if from the projector screen as I can no longer see it on my computer.
Have I messed up my settings, or is this normal. I would just like to plug the projector in and see what i see on my screen on the projector screen, at the moment I can choose either edit on my mac but the class can not see it, or edit on the projector which is hard as the mouse is on the mac.
Can anyone offer a suggestion
Many thanks
Aky HuntI know what to do on a PC but not a macbook. Basically it sounds like your display is extending to the second screen, not duplicating (meaning what you project and what you see on your mac screen are the same)
Try to poke around in the set up slideshow or display settings of your program (keynote?) and see if there are controls for extending or duplicating the screen.
What program are you using? If there's a forum for it I can ask the hosts to move this to the specific forum and see if it can get you a more precise answer faster. Or we can just get them to move it to the macbook forum. -
MBP worked with my BenQ projector for a year and then all of a sudden won't connect.
I have been using the BenQ MX511 projector with my 13in MacBook Pro together for at least a year. I just hooked them up and everything worked! Then a couple weeks ago, I tried to hook them up and the projector was telling me no source found. I usually use a HDMI cable with the Mac adapter - so I tried the VGA cable and was able to make that work with a resolution of 800 x 600, but that was too low to allow my PowerPoint software to work.
Now I have a presentation to do again (tomorrow of course) and try as I might I can not get these two machines to talk to each other. I cannot think of anything that changed - maybe updating Lion to 10.7.2? (My daughter used the Projector with her PC a few days ago to watch a movie - no problems. I cannot believe I may have to use a PC to do my presentation!)HDMI cables have a lifespan. Yours hit it. Remember the simplest solution to the problem is usually the best.

Connect Benq projector to early Macbook Air
Model Benq projector MX518 will not connect to MacBook Air 11" early model using adaptor as suggested by my Mac Dealer with DB9 cord connecting to
computer No.2 /or Number one, only signal received is desktop imge and tht image is one which was the original from purchase image!
Might a USB to HDMI or similar connection be preferable?
Oh and yet another connecting cord???
Thank YOUI'm sitting at my iMac now.
I clicked:
Apple Menu -> System Preferences -> Printers and Scanners
Click +
It should say under nearby printers the name of your printer.
When you had the USB cable before you probably 'confused' it because it was already set up you know?
Hopefully that works for you!
It reminded me to add my printer here on this computer -
Problem with MacBook and TimeCapsule (with Workaround)
Hi,
thought it might be helpful to post my recent experience with my new MacBook (2,4GHz) and my *Time Capsule*.
I am using the Time Capsule as my main WLAN router and for backup. Reproducible, the MacBook (with OSX 10.5.6, all Airport updates applied; TimeCapsule with most recent firmware update 4.7.1) corrupts the TimeCapsule connection when waking up from sleep. Whenever the MacBook wakes up from sleep, it tries to (re-) connect to my wireless network. The airport sign in the menu bar changes from light grey bars to dark bars and the connection time counter appears next to it; but just a second later the counter disappears again, although the Airport signal bars are staying black. The result is that there's no wireless connectivity anymore; even the Airport admin software cannot find the TimeCapsule anymore. Furthermore, all other Macs (I have an additional iMac) loose there connections as well. Only thing that helps here is to restart the TimeCapsule (by disconnecting the power cord). After that, both MacBook and iMac can access the TimeCapsule again and everything works as normal.
This whole scenario can completely be reproduced and only happens when the MacBook tries to (re-) establish its Internet connection after wake-up from sleep. When I shut down the MacBook and boot normally, the MacBook connects without any problems.
After several hours of finding a solution, I've called Apple Support - and they told me that this is a *known bug*, but they currently have *no solution* for it. According to the Apple Support guy, I was not the first to report this problem (which was somehow a relief, but on the other hand a surprise as I haven't found similar problem descriptions on Mac forums yet), but they couldn't tell when and how the problem will be fixed. (Of course, they also recommended applying the most recent software updates (which I had) and resetting PRAM (which I did) - without any success.)
As now I got the impression that this is a bug with the current Late 2008 MacBook (it has a Broadcom BCM43xx based Airport Extreme Card) which I cannot solve myself, I looked at least for a workaround. I realised that this error doesn't occur when I turn Airport off before sending the MacBook to sleep, and activating it some safe time after waking up again. With the great resources at macosxhints.com, I found a small program called "Sleepwatcher" and a scripting addition called "XNetwork". Sleepwatcher runs as a demon in the background and can execute small tasks before a Mac goes to sleep and after it wakes up. XNetwork allows you to turn on and off Airport from within AppleScript (or the OpenScript Architecture). Now I use Sleepwatcher to turn off Airport just before my MacBook goes to sleep, and use it as well to (re-) activate Airport with a safe delay of 10 seconds after my MacBook wakes up again.
As of now, this works just fine (and as it should right out of the box...) - so I can wait more relaxed until Apple comes up with a real solution for this problem!
Sorry, this has become quite a long post - but maybe it is helpful for anyone.
Cheers,
MarkI believe this was the problem I was experiencing at first, but it is now worse!
TC works fine EXCEPT for the AirPort feature when also using AirPort on my MacBook (late 2008, Unibody).
At first it seemed random, but I can now reproduce the problem at will. The TC stops working and the light goes solid amber or even no light at all sometimes.
The scenario is the following:
TC works fine, I have an iBook G4 connected via ethernet and can surf the web; iPod touch (1st gen) can surf the web as well; everyone's happy. Turn on the MacBook with AirPort on, TC stops working; light goes amber or sometimes stays solid green (I configured it to flash on activity) or completely off. iBook and iPod can't surf the web. AirPort Utility does not even see the TC (hit Rescan many times, no luck). Restart TC by unplugging, waiting 20 seconds or so, plug it back, light is solid amber; AirPort Utility still does not see the TC. Repeat this a few times, waiting in between, no success. Turn off AirPort on the MacBook, unplug and plug the TC, it is now working in less than 30 seconds. iBook and iPod can surf the web; connect the MacBook via ethernet to the TC, everyone is still happy. Turn on AirPort on the MacBook, TC stops working. You get the picture. It has been 2 days now where I can reproduce this constantly.
I have an AirPort Express that I use to stream music, which extends the TC. My DSL modem/router is in bridge mode where the TC connects via PPPoE. My configuration has been the same for almost 2 years problem free. I reset the modem too but the above scenario still applies.
I did a hard reset of the TC by holding the reset button at the back until the light flashed amber rapidly. I re-entered all the configuration again, but still no luck.
I re-installed OS X 10.5.7, no luck. The firmware on the TC is 7.4.1 (74100.25). The AirPort card on the MacBook is listed as Broadcom BCM43xx 1.0 (5.10.38.35)
I set the log level to debug on the time capsule and entered the IP address of the iBook (which is connected via ethernet), but I could not find anything in the system.log or other logs via the Console application.
When the TC is working and I then turn on AirPort on the MacBook, this is the last entries from the logs on the TC:

I turned on AirPort on the MacBook at 20:29 and then nothing after those few lines; in this last case, the TC light was solid green but the iBook or iPod could not surf the web (it was flashing green with activity just before as I opened a web page on the iBook).
Still no solutions as of yet... -
I have a tesco router and an external hard drive attached to it as a network drive (shared) for my macbook and MB-Air. Have no problems with my MB accessing it, but with MB-AIR it says - 'the version of the server you are trying to connect to is not supported. pls contact your system administrator to resolve the problem'. MB-Air uses maverick downloaded yesterday - upgrade from mountain lion. MB uses snow leopard still, as i am quite used to it and am thinking of upgrade if mavericks work fine on air. Also have parallel on snow leopard but it is no longer supported according to mac website - if i upgrade am i going to lose my parallel and will have to buy a new one!!!
Yes, the Old Master file has a folder for each year where I find all photos from that specific year. I am attaching a screen shot of the file.
In the meantime i have managed to download all photos (it did not download any video files though in mpg, avi, 3gp, m4v,mp4 and mov format) to a new iphoto library. Unfortunately the photos are quite mixed and often doubled up. I ma considering to purchase iphoto library which checks all duplicates in iphoto. this will save me a lot of time. What do you think? -
Back button only works about 50% of the time. Have to hit it twice, sometimes three times before it works. Problem is intermittent. Firefox 3.6.10 on Mac OS 10.6.4 (same on both MacBook and iMac machines).

Problem MacBook Lion and TC file recovery from previous Mac
I had backed up my Macbook (white) with Snow Leopard with Time Capsule. After having upgraded to a new Macbook Pro with Lion, having done migration, I found that not all photos or files have been transferred over.
I am now trying to get them back from Time Capsule but it seems the new Macbook Pro does not communicate well with it.
So i dug up my old macbook and tried to restore files there - but now getting an error (cannot mount disk images)
Very disappointed and worried. Anyone had the same problem please or good tips to overcome please? ThanksNot sure what to say. In the first case, your using a comptuer with a totally different OS, and different hardware, to try to communicate with your sparse bindle from the orignal. I can see where you may run into issues here.
Can you quote the message exactly on the older nbp that you've getting? -
I run Tiger OSX on one MacBook and SnowLeopard on another. Photos were downloaded from Tiger to SnowLeopard, and now iPhoto won't open on the Tiger Mac. Will upgrading iPhoto fix this problem?
What matters is the version of iPhoto you have on the different machines. Can you tell us what they are, and what exact error message you get.

I want to buy a new projector: there are many projectors out there and I'm interested in an HD projector. On this site (http://www.projectorcentral.com/home-theater-multimedia-projectors.htm) I found what I want but there is a question. What appens if I connect my new macbook (1280x800 native res) to a 720p projetor (1280x720 native res)?
Does the macbook external video out work at that resolution? what appens in mirror mode? Can I see my dock? Or I can't see the 80 rows? Does it scales down to a non-native resolution? Can the Macbook work with HD projectors?
All mac video resolutions are 16:10, all projectors and TVs are 16:9 what can I do?
ThanksI had my MacBook (black) connected to EPSON Projector (1280x720) throught the USB-VGA addapter. It worked like a charm - I didn't check the resolution - but I know it did change it for the projector - I believe it was changed to the native 1280 by 720. Either way - the resolution was amazing - BETTER THAN MY MACBOOK - and the colors were unbeliveably crisp and life like. I watched few movies - browesed the web - I was impressed.
I'm getting the Panasonic projector (1280x720) portable (5lb) very soon - spec are even better than the EPSON I was using - so I'm very excited.
I think you will be very happy with the purchase - the macbooks work great with projectors and stay very cool - as they don't need any additional CPU power to run through the projector. -
I purchased Macbook Pro i5 in March 2011. Now the screen has problem; one vertical blue line is in the screen (at the right side). I noticed this last week when I opened the macbook and now I am always seening it. I am seeing the blue vertical line always in the screen. However, I am not seeing this line when I open Word, Excel, PowerPoint files (without pictures). But I am seeing this line always when I see movies, pictures, and all the files which have pictures. Please do let me know how can I remove this vertical blue line (blue tint) pernamentally from the screen.
Regards,
UjjalBackup your files to a external hard drive and disconnect.
Call Apple and make a warranty call, then take it to the nearest Apple Store etc.
You can run these things and it might clear your issue or give further informaiton

Problems opening and running iTunes on MacBook
I have had some MacBook issues lately. After resetting the PRAM and SMC and repairing Disk Utilities/Permissions, the MacBook seems to be running again, albeit still a little slowly.
But today, I tried to use iTunes to listen to my music, and couldn't get it to open. I tried to open it from the dock multiple times (at least 7 different times), all with the same result. iTunes reports an error/ it crashed, and reports the error to Apple. Any idea what the problem is, and if my music library is alright?

The only games that can be run on pre 1.4.5 webOS devices come from the App Catalog. Flash games will not work. To my knowledge, any other game formats will also not work. -
Suddenly all of my Office-programs have stopped working and will not launch on my MacBook. They were all already installed when I bought the computer. Could anyone give an amateur from Norway a hint of what may cause the problem? (And I can not find the installation-disc for the Office Programs...Super!)
Have you contacted Microsoft support - http://www.microsoft.com/mac/support ?

just buy my macbook last week, and the problem is i cannot start my macbook and is making are beep beep sound. And is become warm. But when I connect to a charger is can start like normally. What I'm need to do so? Thank You.
Since you are covered by warranty, I would take it to your nearest Apple store immediately. There might be a problem with the RAM. And, you have 14 days to return the machine, so if it is not an easy fix, you might want to consider returning it for another machine.

I have a new Macbook pro and need to run some Windows software, it appears "Parallel" should work well from what I've have read. Will I have any issues or problems accessing and printing from various printers on my Windows 7 network within Parallel? Is Parallel in fact the best way to go?
First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive might be failing.
There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
Reset the System Management Controller.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. That should be easy to do if your extract is not too long.
