Problem Making Copies of DVD

Hi all,
I just burned a DVD using iDVD and gave it to a friend who was going to make 30 copies of it using equipment he has.
Unfortunately it didn't work. His computer (not sure what kind of equipment he has) gave him a "read error" and was not able to continue. He said the only time he's seen that happen was when he's tried to copy a DVD from Blockbuster, so presumably when a DVD has some kind of copywrite protection. Does iDVD put such "protection" in?
He also mentioned that it took about 4 hours to read the DVD (only to fail at the end) when normally reading a DVD (before churning out copies) takes about 15minutes.
My workflow here is at a standstill. And I don't know what to do.

It sounds like burn error-rate problems. Discs burned at high speeds (over 4x) may have a level of burn errors that make them difficult for some readers to read.
iDVD offers no control over burn speed and will burn discs at the lowest of the rated disc burn speed or burner speed rating. This can easily be 8x or higher with new equipment.
To burn at a lower speed you must 'burn' to a disk image (an option under FILE in iDVD) and then use Apple's Disk Utility or Roxio's Toast to actually burn the disk image to writable media. Both offer burn speed choices. I recommend burning at no more than 2x for maximum compatability.

Making Copies of DVDS

I recently used Costco services to transfer a 16mm movie to DVD. (The movie was a college project. The copyright is my own.) Now I want to make additional copies of this DVD for friends and family and I cannot. When I tried using Toast to input the movie to my HD, where I would then use iMovie to do some additional editing, then transfer back to iDVD, the Costco DVD is "copy-protected"! I can't make any additional copies. I'm a bit stunned. This is MY movie.
Anyway, does anybody have any suggestions on how to import the project to my HD?

Toast will make a 'cloned' copy without any conversion if that is all you want.
If you want to convert back to DV for further editing, try changing the permissions on the TS folder in Get Info (Finder). If you are successful, then you need to convert the VOB files back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:

This issue has nothing to do with Time Machine or local snaphsots. No built-in feature of OS X does what you describe.
Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software — potentially for the worse. The following procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed. Don’t be alarmed by the complexity of these instructions — they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
These steps are to be taken while booted in “normal” mode, not in safe mode. If you’re now running in safe mode, reboot as usual before continuing.
Below are instructions to enter some UNIX shell commands. The commands are harmless, but they must be entered exactly as given in order to work. If you have doubts about the safety of the procedure suggested here, search this site for other discussions in which it’s been followed without any report of ill effects.
Some of the commands will line-wrap or scroll in your browser, but each one is really just a single line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then either copy or drag it. The headings “Step 1” and so on are not part of the commands.
Note: If you have more than one user account, Step 2 must be taken as an administrator. Ordinarily that would be the user created automatically when you booted the system for the first time. The other steps should be taken as the user who has the problem, if different. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign (“$”) or a percent sign (“%”). If you get the percent sign, enter “sh” and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
Step 1
Triple-click the line of text below to select it:

Copy (command-C) the selected text to the Clipboard. Then click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). Post the lines of output (if any) that appear below what you just entered. You can do that by copy-and-paste as well. Omit the final line ending in “$”. No typing is involved in this step.
Step 2
Repeat with this line:

This time, you'll be prompted for your login password, which you do have to type. It won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. You don't need to post the warning.
Note: If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before taking this step. If that’s not possible, skip to the next step.
Step 3

Remember, steps 1-5 are all copy-and-paste — no typing, except your password. Also remember to post the output.
You can then quit Terminal.

Sounds like a permissions problem ie read only.
If running repair permissions from your DiskUtility.app does not sort it,
Someone should jump in here with erudite and concise fix.

Problem converting the matrix dvd with videora

Hi, Iv'e been using dvd decryptor and videora ipod converter to get my dvd's on my ipod and it's been working until now but I'm having a problem with the matrix dvd (the first one widescreen edition). For some reason when ever I convert it with videora a little piece of the video gets cut out (the part where trinity goes into slow-mo and kicks the cop in the face) but the audio dosen't so for the rest of the movie the av sync is off by about 5 seconds. If anyone else has had this problem or has any ideas please help.

I tried ripping the dvd with smart ripper instead of dvd decryptor and got the same problem so it seems like the problem is with videora. Are there any other programs like videora that might work? Also I do have quicktime pro and the mpeg encoder for it so is there a way to do it using that?

Why does Mac OX 10.6.8 keep making copies of a file anytime I download, copy, or move a file? It will copy, dowload or move the file, then begin making copies until I reboot. This makes it impossible to deal wit hfiles unless I want to spend a lot of time rebooting after every time, then deleting all the redundant copies.

If I understand what you are saying this is very strange. Sure you tried Reparing Permissions and all that. Also sure you're aware that when moving a file from the hard disk to an external - the default is to make a copy rather than a move. If the movement is with the same disk (e.g. hard disk - hard disk) the Default is a Move rather than Copy.
Anyway try this: Move a file between location where you would normally have this problem while holding the Command Key (which triggers a Move rather than a Copy). I would also try quickly setting up a New User Account and see if the problem is present within this New Account. This may provide a clue as to what is happening.
Also, what browser are you using when the download problem happens?

Problem with display of DVD's on MBP CD 2,0

Just got a refurb MBP Core Duo 2.0 with 1mb mem. when a DVD movie is inserted in the drive, it plays it, but the screen display looks like something from the Matrix with little rectangles all over the screen and the movie itself barely visible. I've updated the player, but still on 10.4.6 as I didn't want to move to 10.4.8 given some of the problems indicated with wireless networking. Any thoughts as to what this might be? You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions. To do this, click here and pick a method; if that page doesn't list one for your country or you're unable to call, fill out and submit this form.
They wouldn't be security questions if they could be bypassed without Apple verifying your identity.

How to add files, without making copies?

Hi,
I want to add folders to the iTunes Libary, without making copies. Want it to simply moves the folder directly.
Now I have copies of the files in the "old folders" as well as in iTunes.
If it's doable: How can I make it permanent that the folders won't copy, only move(or delete itself after?)
Second.. How can I stop iTunes from making copies of files?
Example: I add the same folder by mistake..
And how do I correct the copied files? Any tip?

Turn off the option to "copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library" in the iTunes -> Advanced preferences. Then when you add a file or folder of files to iTunes, it will just point to them where they are. Note that having your tracks in multiple places outside of the iTunes Music folder will complicate making backups as well as moving your content to another volume should you ever need to do so (should you run out of room on your current hard drive, for instance).
As to correcting the extras, try the Show Duplicates command (under the File menu in iTunes 8). That should help. You can also find scripts for dealing with duplicate content on Doug's AppleScripts for iTunes.

Problem in COPA ( Urgent)

Hi All,
I have a problem in COPA. The issue is-
There was a mistake in SD Billing copying controls, it allowed the item category ZBC1 Batch item category to copy to the billing document. The item did not have any quantity or value, but it had cost, so double entries went to COPA. Copying controls have since then been adjusted back, but copa needs to be adjusted for all companies.
First of all how does the customer best find the double entries?
Should the correction be made from SD side by creating credit and debit memo?
Or can the correction be done by creating new entries in COPA with eg KE21N?
Please can any one let me know shall the entries be made in COPA. IF yes how to solve the issue

I have executed transaction KEAT.
The total cost of goods traded is showing as 23784.76. But the actual cost was 11,892.38. ( Its showing as double, since copying control was active). And when i go to T.code VF02 the invoice is showing two line item
1) 1st line item contains quantity+ cost ( 11892.38)
2) 2nd line item conatins Quantity (0) + cost ( 11892.38)
Now i need to reverse the second line item in COPA? can this be done by KEAT or any other transaction. Please let me know as i have never used KEAT

Anyone else having problems making a hyperlink to a file?
I have a document in CS4 that I'm exporting to pdf. When I create a hyperlink in CS4 to a file, I am getting the message when I click the link in the pdf ' Cannot find the file:C%5Document' etc.
When creating the link, File is selected, Shared Destination is unchecked & checking the link using 'Go to Destination' shows the link works.
In Acrobat 9 Pro, I've checked the properties of the link - when exported from CS4, the Link Properties - Actions are 'Open a web link' 'file:C:\Documents%20'etc whereas if the link is created in Acrobat the link properties are ' 'Open a file' 'file:C\Documents and Settings' etc, and it works.
Is this a bug or am I missing something?

I'm only getting that to work with the catalogue & sample in the same folder. In any case from a useability standpoint using URL brings up the Security Warning & putting the catalogue pdf in the same folder as 100 sample pdfs makes it more difficult to locate.
I'm at a loss to understand why the functionality of creating a link in InDesign cannot be the same as Acrobat; where you can select 'Open a file', browse to that file and the relative links are maintained when you burn to a disc. InDesign looks as if it will do the same but when you select File as the link & browse to the destination file but InDesign treats it as a URL & brings up the the web link cursor in the finished pdf. That still looks like a bug to me.

I also have tried many other options and procedures, but each time the playlist that ends up on the player has only a few of the songs that I put on the play list. all the songs do exist on the player, but seems to randomly select only a small subset of the songs - example: 6 original, 2 get on the list, 30 on teh original, 6 get on the player's play list.
The odd part is if I go back to the player at some later time and connect via creative central, the correct playlist displays on the PC. However, is still wrong (truncated) on the player. So it seems to remember the correct play list, but just does not display correctly on the player.

?After many attempts? (like 6) with creative support to convince them this was a software bug, the end state response was to send the player back. Using better judgement, I waited for a new software release and indeed the problem was fixed in a subsequent release of the software.
My main frustration here was they seem to not want to escalate problems quickly to the right level of technical support that actually understands the software/debugging? vs hardware? and can look through a set of debugging steps and tests I sent in the first notes and realize it is not something hardware related. Even after citing my degrees in computer science/electrical engineering and having designed/debugged systems much more complex than this, all I got was simple procedural steps to repeat or send it back, it is a hardware problem. Ug!
