Problem moving CS5 to new computer

I am trying to move my CS5 to my new laptop. The original media was on discs, and the new computer does not have a disc drive. I downloaded the direct download from the Adobe site, but it does not accept the original serial number. Does this have anything to do with it being an Education Edition? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

No, that didn't actually solve my problem, but it did lead me to compare files from iPod and my computer. I discovered that the iTunes Library file that was on my new computer was much smaller than the one on my iPod, so I simply recopied the entire iTunes folder from my iPod and voila! there was all of my music in iTunes on my new computer! Thanks for guiding the way into the light

  • Problem moving music to new computer

I have just attempted to move my music from my iBook G4 to my new aluminum MacBook, running iTunes 8.1+, using my iPod Nano (3rd generation). I carefully followed the instructions in Article: HT1329. My music shows up in the Music/iTunes folder on my new computer, but does not show up in iTunes when I open the program. WTH?? Help!!

  • Where do I download from for moving CS5 to new computer from old?

I have deactivated the application from my old computer.  Now I don't see where, on the Adobe site, to start the download for my new computer.

Did you purchase a download version of Creative Suite 5?  If so then I would recommend reviewing http://forums.adobe.com/message/3980334#3980334

  • Moving CS5 to new computer?

My desktop is starting to have problems so I bought a new one and  need to move CS5 from the old to theDeactivate, I get the option of "Suspend Activation" or "Deactivate Permanently" I'm guessing I want to suspend, but would like to be sure. Anything else I need to know? Any pitfalls to avoid?
Thanks very much for your time.
ps   So . . .  there's not going to be any more DW CS*? It's only available via monthly subscription?

If you want to temporarily deactivate -- say while you install on an interim 3rd machine, use Suspend option.   If you want to donate your old computer to charity, use Permanently Deactivate.
Yes, you can still purchase CS6 but it's not being updated with new features and is now 3 versions removed from CC 2014.  Don't get me wrong, CS6 is a very good product.  I'm just letting you know what you're buying.   Creative Suite 6
With the Cloud model, you get new software and updates as soon as they are available.  No more waiting 18 months for bug fixes.  In addition, Cloud members get other perks that are not offered to perpetual license users.  It's just something else to consider when you're ready to upgrade.

Last version I had before CS5 was/is Illustrator 10,which has been installed on new computer.
CS5 install says I need CS2,3 or 4 before installing 5, but old computer went directly from 10 to CS5.
How can I repeat this 10 to CS5 install?

It does not seem likely that CS6 was upgraded from version 10.  You might want to check your purchase history in your Adobe account to see if there is some missing link in the chain of purchases you made.

  • I'm moving an internal hard drive from an old computer to a new computer.  How do I transfer the catalog data to my new computer so the Organizer of Photoshop Elements 6 will find the data on the hard that has been moved to the new computer?

I'm moving an internal hard drive from an old computer to a new computer.  (My new compute runs Windows 8.1) How do I transfer the catalog data to my new computer so the Organizer of Photoshop Elements 6 will find the data on the hard that has been moved to the new computer?  Is this possible or do I have to use the procedure of copying the catalog along with the photos to a back up hard drive and then restore them on the new computer?

The 'normal' procedure is to do a PSE organizer backup (not a copy or a backup from external tools) to an external drive, then a restore to the new location.
The advantage is that you have a backup of both catalog and media files and you don't have all disconnected files, which would happen with external backup tools. Also, if you restore with a more recent elements version, the catalog will be automatically updated to the new format.
The drawback in your situation is that you'll have either to overwrite all your files or restore to a custom location, creating a duplicate photo library (which supposes you have enough free space).
It would be possible to simply use the organizer in the old PC to move the catalog to a new 'custom' folder just under your C: root drive. The catalog would be accessible once the drive will be installed in the new PC. Then you would have all files 'disconnected' due to the fact that all your media files are now on a drive with a different letter. Reconnecting a whole library is a hard job with PSE6, less so with PSE11/PSE12.
If the idea of fiddling with the sqlite database with external sqlite manager tools is ok for you, I can describe the process more in detail. You only copy your catalog folder (as suggested above) to another location. Instead of trying the 'reconnection' way, you install the sqlite utility on the new computer. When the old drive is installed in the new computer, you simply edit a given record in the catalog database, catalog.psedb, and start the organizer with your copied catalog by simply double clicking the 'catalog.psedb' file.
Even if the last solution is much, much quicker, I would still create a new PSE backup : you have never too much safety .

  • Playlists not showing up after moving itunes to new computer

moved itunes to new computer and used an externa;l harddrive to move "iTunes" folder over.  the most recent "setup" of itunes on old computer is not showing on new computer.  For example "music" file size on external drive is 133GB - on new computer itunes, only 33GB.  and, playlists have disapeared.  any ideas?

See Make a split library portable for some background on moving the library successfully. You need the main iTunes library.itl file, its supporting files and the Album Artwork folder as well.
If you can find that data it should be possible to put everything together in the right shape and make it work.
Otherwise I have two scripts called ImportDevicePlaylists and SyncStats which may prove useful.

  • Upgrading & moving LR to new computer

Hello! I would love some help.
I have a question with a few question in it!
I have been using LR3 for 2 years and have one catalogue that has been on the same computer the whole time.
I just bought a new mac and want to do 3 things:
    1. Get LR on to my new computer (yes I still have the cd and #)
    2. Upgrade to the newest LR (5 I think)
    3. Get my catalogue that I have been using for 2 years on to the new computer  and have it work with LR 5
I want all these things to work together, I am hoping that I will be able to upgrade to LR5 and still be able to use my old catalogue.
So my question is what should I do first? Get LR on new computer, then upgrade, then transfer catalogue and will it all work like that.
I would love any and all help!  -- thank you - Alibaba

    Separate the two tasks.
Upgrade on the same computer, once you are sure everything is working, then move everything to the new computer; OR
Move eveything to the new computer in LR3, once you are sure everything is working, upgrade to LR5.
It probably doesn't matter which order you this.
Instructions on moving to a new computer

Also, throughout this entire process, do not use this as an opportunity to rearrange files and folders for any reason, do not try to "clean up" your folders or make the more logical. Move them to a new computer yes, but other than that, no rearranging or moving files or folders from here to there.

  • Problems with Apple ID when moving ITunes to new computer

I am transferring my music to a new computer. When I first started using Itunes I had an account ID '*@aol.com'. Now my Apple ID is '*@comcast.net'. After importing my music to the new computer, any song that was imported to the library when I had the aol ID pops up a message that the computer needs to be authorized. I follow the procedure to authorize the computer, it completes successfully and says that 1 out of 5 computers is authorized but when I try to play the song again, the same authorization window appears. It appears that Itunes stores information pertaining to the Apple ID attached to each song in the library.
Anyone have any ideas??? Is there a way to fix this ID issue?

  • Problem with moving itunes to new computer

I recently bought a new computer and when i downloaded Itunes some of my songs did not come through complete. About 50 songs in my library will randomly stop playing in the middle of the song and move on to the next song. I downloaded the latest version of itunes.  When I go to my library and play a defective song if i force it to fast forward it will play the remaining part of the song so the music is there. So far the only solution to my problems is an expensive one. only thing I can think of to do is delete the affected songs and pay to redownload them. Is there another way to resolve this issue? When I first noticed the problem itunes did let me redownload 3 songs for free then when I went to do it again ( because I have alot a music and haven't discovered ALL the defective songs yet. I cant find them till they play and I notice it) but when I went to redownload song I already paid for they wanted to charge me again.

    Thanks for your advice.
Unfortunately it did not solve the problem.
I’m now convinced that my problem is related to the Intel Viiv Technology.
In an article at tweakdown.com, http://www.tweaktown.com/articles/937/index.html , they proclaim that if you have a computer with Intel Viiv Technology "you’re locked out of iTunes".

  • Moved iPod to new computer and now it is all messed up

Help! I just got a new computer and I tried to move my ipod to the new computer. I backed up my library to CDROM, then deauthorized the old computer and authorized the new computer. I loaded iTunes on the new machine and restored my library. Everything looked fine until I tried to put new songs on the ipod from a CD. The new songs showd up in the itunes library and they show up up as being on the ipod on the PC screen, but when the ipod was disconnected, they could not be accessed from the ipod. I tried all of the R's but it not only didn't solve the problem, but now nothing is on the ipod at all. When I connect the ipod, i get the setup assistant box and when I put the Ipod name and click ok, it says that it synced and itunes goes back to saying eveything is still there, even though it is not. Any suggestions?

using migration assistant (or any other shortcut to properly installing adobe programs) is problematic.
at this point, uninstall using the adobe uninstallers, if possible.
clean (Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6)
then properly install using the adobe installation files.

  • 40000 files and 600 playlists need moving to a new computer

I'm overwhlemed with internet advice and it's all a bit too general. I need specific advice on transferring 40,000+ tracks and 600+ playlists to a new computer.
    Old setup:
40,000+ tracks on an external hard drive (so all files are recognised as "F:\..."). Roughly half are ticked for transfer to my iPod.
600+ playlists on the laptop's hard drive ('C:\'). Most tracks within the playlists are ticked for transfer to my iPod but some aren't.
The laptop is ancient and simply can't fit the 300GB of files onto the main hard drive in order to "consolidate" as detailed on the forums.
Windows XP (but Windows 8.1 on new laptop)
Version 11.3 of iTunes is being used.
There is room on the new laptop's hard drive to fit the 300GB of files but I'm concerned this will change the path name of all the files to "C:\..." and therefore this may create a problem. So, ideally, I want to continue to use the external hard drive.
So, what's the best way of setting up iTunes on my new laptop and making sure I can use my external hard drive and everything working without a hitch on my new laptop?
Is there a specific order I need to do things in (with regards to installing iTunes on the new laptop, plugging the hard drive in for the first time, moving my playlist xml file, and anything else)?
How do I ensure that everything that is ticked stays ticked and everything that's unticked stays unticked (as I don't fancy having to go through unticking 20,000+ tracks if everything gets transferred as ticked)?
How do I ensure that the playlists are populated (and ticked/unticked) rather than just empty titles?
Ideally I don't want to it through Home Sharing as I think this will just populate my new hard drive rather than me just wanting to use my existing external hard drive.
Help please. Please be specific with what order I need to do things in as I'm guessing the order will be vital.

Migrate an iTunes library from one computer to another
These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
    Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one, with ratings, play counts, playlists etc. preserved. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd normally recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library and unlike copying with Windows Explorer the process can be resumed if it is interrupted and it will continue to the next item if there are any read/access errors.
Note if you have iOS devices and haven't moved your contacts and calendar items across then you should create one dummy entry of each in your new profile and iTunes should  merge the existing data from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See Make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library or a backup then then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data.
If you can give me some more details on the location of the active .itl file, and the location of the media folder as defined under Edit > Preferences > Advanced I can turn the general advice into something specific.

  • Can't use songs that i moved onto a new computer

my family recently bought a new computer because the old one was having problems and we were afraid it would stop working, so i used a jump drive to take all of my purchased music from the itunes on my old computer and i put it all on the new one. i successfully synced everything onto my ipod, but i had to have the jump drive that i moved everything with plugged in. if i try to listen to or use anything without the jump drive the computer wont let me use it because it cant find the original file. i don't want to have to rely on the jump drive to use any of my itunes library, so how so i keep the computer from needing it plugged in to use the songs?

theres not a consolidate library choice under the library section in the file menu. and what does consolidating do?

  • Problem transferring Itunes to new computer

After unsuccessfully trying to use MA to move all of our files from our old G4 to a new Intel MacBookPro (our computers kept freezing up 1/2 way through, I've since read that this isn't the best way to do it) We then tried transferring everything manually via firewire cable and target disk mode but not using MA. This seemed to be working until we got to iTunes. We followed the instructions posted here, Consolidating the library, moving the iTunes music folder and putting it in the exact location on the new computer. Everytime it would seem to be working but after 4.28 g's it would just stop and freeze up. We have about 15 g's to transfer. I keep looking through all these posts trying to see if we missed something but it sure seems we were doing everything correct. We then tried using our iPod as an external drive by enabling disk mode but kept getting a message that there wasn't enough space on the iPod (even though there was) I have since read that even a 20G iPod can't hold more than 4G's in disk mode. Any advice on how to get our 15G of music and movies from the old G4 to the new computer would be appreciated. I don't have an external drive, but would consider buying one if I thought it would help. I'm just afraid I will run into the same problem trying to move it to an ED.

Thanks - but I discovered that my new itunes folder wasn't empty after all, in fact it was full of files that were invisible (not showing in the music folder) from my failed previous attempt. I dragged it to Trash (though didn't empy it), and dragged the properly organized folder from the external drive into the same place at users/username/music. A dialog box immediately came up and I selected "Replace all", which I hope has overwritten all the old data that may be hanging around. At least the music folder now has all the right files in it and the library file is the same. But will this have linked everything properly? Can I just open iTunes now?
