Problem navigating in Recovery HD

I am running a late-2009 iMac with Lion 10.7.5. I was going to upgrade to Mavericks. Just to be cautious I ran a full backup with Time Machine then ran verify disk under disk utilities. I've always been clean ofter doing that but this time I got this:
Verifying volume “Macintosh HD”
Checking file systemPerforming live verification.
Checking Journaled HFS Plus volume.
Checking extents overflow file.
Checking catalog file.
Checking multi-linked files.
Incorrect number of file hard links
Checking catalog hierarchy.
Checking extended attributes file.
Checking volume bitmap.
Checking volume information.
The volume Macintosh HD was found corrupt and needs to be repaired.
Error: This disk needs to be repaired using the Recovery HD. Restart your computer, holding down the Command key and the R key until you see the Apple logo. When the Mac OS X Utilities window appears, choose Disk Utility.
So I restarted computer, held command and R key at the same time. Menu came up with four choices, last one is Disk Utility. The only way I can navigate though is with arrow keys. My trackpad moves cursor but does not activate anything on screen. I hightlight Disk Utility with the arrows, press return and nada.
Did this twice. Still nada. I have to turn off machine with back button and unplug it, then I'm back in normal mode.
I cannot seem to get anywhere in Recovery Mode. Am I doing something wrong? Is the trackpad not active in this mode? I also have a wireless keyboard. Does Lion assume I don't? That seems unlikely. How do I get to disk utility...
Thanks for any help you can provide.
Please, I am not an idiot with computers but I've just got a basic understanding. Simple, step-by-step instructions are best!

Nothing? No one has any ideas what's up here?
Bummer.

  • Problems Navigating this Discussion Website

Using either Safari or Firefox I have big problems navigating this site. I can log in OK but it keeps hanging. With Firefox I sometimes get the message box 'This document contains no data'. With Safari I get 'Safari can't open the page "http:/discussions.apple.com/post!post.jspa". The error was: "lost network connection" (NSURLErrorDomain:-1005) Please choose Report Bug to Apple from the Safari menu, note the error number, and describe what you did before you saw this message'. Also it seems to navigate a bit better if I don't log in and use the site as a guest. Could it be something with my account? I've had great difficulties posting this query, also when changing my settings. It's like the address bar doesn't colour over past the http part when I click. No problems with other sites - I have phoned Apple and they can navigate round it OK. I've tried clearing the cache and cookies which improves it slightly but only for a short time. It has taken me days to submit this and I'm finally doing it from a Windows PC with Internet Explorer. Maybe I need to delete my account and start a new one? Please can anyone help?

This site is frequently slow, sometimes incredibly so. I can only hope that sometime soon, Apple will finish their tinkering (actually, I don't know what was wrong with the previous iteration, it seemed fine to me), restore levels and mark the page construction "solved"!

  • Problems navigating through old posts

I am having problems navigating through old posts.  The slower the forums get, the longer it takes me to read them, and the further behind I get in reading them.  Eventually, when trying to read posts that are a couple of months old in the SQL and PL/SQL forum, when trying to navigate from one post to the other, I frequently get an error message.  This happens whether I try to use my browser's back arrow to the previous page or click on a page number on the forum page, or change the start number in the url.  However, sometimes I actually get back to the page and can select the next post.  It is not consistent.  Sometimes I can click on the same thing four times in a row and the first three times I get the error, but the fourth time I get a page of posts.  So, the error message is not actually saying what is really going on.  The following is the error message that I keep getting:
"You have reached the maximum amount of pages in this set of content results. If you are looking for something specific, try applying a content type filter or entering a search term."

Yes, I am still seeing the problem sporadically.

  • Problem with Rescue & Recovery

    Hi!
I have a X61 running on Vista Business. I am facing 2 problems with Rescue & Recovery:
    1. RR tries to run a backup on every bootup even when I schedule it to run Monthly or Never. The program appears not to register the changes to the backup schedule. I upgraded to the latest version of RR, but it didn't help. (Note: Another user posted about the same problem (http://forums.lenovo.com/lnv/board/message?board.id=Special_Interest_Utilities&thread.id=604) some months back, but his problem hasn't been solved.)
    2. Whenever RR tries to perform a backup, I get this error message: "R2R.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close." I downloaded the patch KB917422 but got the following message when I ran the installation pgm: "Could not find any previously installed compliant products on the machine for installing the product."
    Will greatly appreciate any advice!

First you should try to fix the bad sectors, you can use the following command:
    chkdsk c: /f /r

  • Problem navigating in my iPad mini

I am new to Apple products I have a problem when I'm on a site I don't always see away to go back a page, screen or to my initial search.

The navigation arrows on the top left allow you to move forward and back on a tab. The Address Bar and Search Bar are combined at the top of the page. You can navigate directly to a page or start a search there. Both will work.

  • Problem with system recovery for a new hard drive in my Pavilion p6210y Windows 7 Premium 64bit

I decided to swap out  my hard drive when my computer would fail to start up or crash right after starting. Diagnostic tool at startup said the hard drive was faulty and other times I would get BIOHD-1 and BIOHD-2 errors. I replaced the old WD Caviar Blue 640GB with a new Caviar Green 1TB. I ordered and received from HP a system recovery disc set which included five discs labeled:
    Use This First! System Recovery,
    System Recovery 1:1,
    SYstem Recovery 1:3,
    System Recovery 2:3, and
    System Recovery 3:3.
After putting in the new hard drive I used the "Use This First!" disc and everything seemed to be going fine. The scene showed "Loading Windows" or something like that. After about 10 minutes the CD drive opened and the Monitor showed three images: a big green check mark which I assume meant everything was good up to that point; a graphic showing the removal of the first disc; and a graphic showing three discs to be put in. Wondering whether to put in the System Recovery 1:1 disc or the System Recovery 1:3 disc, I noticed that the drive bay closed with the "Use This First" disc still in. I managed to get the Drive to open after pressing the open button quite a few times. I closed it with the 1:3 disc and nothing happened (no light showing activity in the DVD drive). After a minute or so I managed to get the drive open again after quite a few times pressing the open button. I put in the 1:1 disc and still nothing. At this point I could only open the drive bay with a paper clip in the release hole. With the computer unresponsive and the monitor still showing the same as when the first disc came out, I decided to turn it off with the "Use this First!" disc in the drive hoping to start from the beginning again. Now the directions that came with the HP System Recovery discs state:
CAUTION: Do not turn off the computer, or use the keyboard or mouse during this time. Doing so will interrupt or damage the software installation.
Now when I turn the power on I get either:
the HP blue screen with the green hand, (F11=system recovery), (F9=Diagnostics), (F10=Setup) and (ESC=Boot Menu). pressing esc, F9, F10 or F11 does nothing.
Or the HP blue screen appears and then almost immediately goes to the black screen with " Reboot and select proper boot device or insert Boot media in select Boot device and press a key". I've gotten this scene while trying almost every System Recovery disc in the drive. Hitting a key does nothing other than repeating the same message.
Once I got a "The file is corrupt. The file header checksum does not match the computer checksum" error. That appeared only once in about 30 try's.
The open DVD drive button works sometimes and not other times. I can't seem to figure out a pattern for when it will work.
I don't know whether I might have accidentally moved the mouse or hit the keyboard during the first attempt. Can I  do something to the new hard drive to get it back to a state where it can start from the beginning again? Might it be a problem other than the old hard drive. Anyone have any suggestions?

    Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit
Yes, of course! See the link to your model's spec above.
My apologies. The previous link went to a spec for the Satellite A505-S6960 (which came with Windows Vista installed). I had too many spec pages open at the same time and got them mixed.
So, are you telling me that I won't get this one to work?(the BPKT)
No. But you may face the problems that I outlined in this message.

  • Having problem to do "Recovery HD" on Mac Pro?

    Hi,
I had Lion 10.7.3 installed on my Mac Pro with four internal harddisks connected to an Apple RAID card. I was trying to re-install Lion by using Lion's "Recovery HD" feature.  So I shutdown my Mac Pro and reboot by pressing "Command+R" keys to start up the "Recovery HD".  I then selected "Reinstall Mac OS X" from the first startup screen.  After confirming the License agreement, I was presented with "Selecting the disk" for installing OS X Lion.  This is where I had the problem.
My Mac Pro has four internal harddisks connected to an Apple RAID card.  The first disk (1TB) was dedicated as boot disk with OS 10.7.3 installed along with the Recovery HD partition.  The other three disks (2TBx3) were setup as one Volume RAID for data only.
And for the Lion re-install on the Select disk screen, it only showed two choices:
         1)  Recovery HD (which is grayed and cannot be selected),
         2)  DATA-01 (which is the 3 disks RAID for data only).
There was no boot disk to select from.  I don't know what happened why the boot disk was not there.  So I returned to the first screen and use Disk Utility to examine all the disks in my Mac Pro.  It showed both the boot disk and the DATA-01 (RAID volume) were there.  But as soon as I went back to re-install Lion, it only allowed me to select my RAID volume.  The boot disk with the original Lion installed was just not there.
Any help what might have happened?  Thanks.

I don't do RAID stuff, so all I can do is point you to Recovery and About Lion Recovery. Also, see the Related Articles links in the second doc. Maybe there;s something there that'll help. Otherwise, contact Apple's Express Lane.

  • HP Pavilion DV6 - problem with HP recovery - error 1005

I'm trying to format the computer and reinstall windows.
The laptop does not have a hard disk partition for the recovery. I'm using the DVD's that where made when I got the computer.
I can open the HP recovery system and get about 36% in, before i get the message: "error 1005"
I have tried several options that i could find on google like: cleaning the disc's, setting the BIOS to default, checking the disc's are DVD+R.
Someone suggested that Wireless has to be turned on when using the recovery. Mine is turned off. I can't turn on the computer and switch it on, and the keyboard button (touch button) don't respond.
Any suggestion on how to turn Wireless on, or how to fix the recovery?

    Hi,
There may be a work around if you have ( or can borrow ) a retail Windows 7 installation disc that is exactly the same version as your OEM installation - ie if your notebook came with Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit this is the exact retail version you would need.
If you have access to this, use the retail disc to perform the installation, enter the activation key found on the underside of your notebook when requested and when the installation has completed, use the 'Phone Method' detailed in the link below to activate the OS - this is fully supported by Microsoft and is popular with people who just want a clean installation of Windows 7 without the additional software normally bundled with OEM installations.

Any additional driver can be found starting Here.

  • Problem in Database Recovery..

I m working at Test Environment, My database is running in ArchiveLogMode. I have current backup and old backup (one month old),
For practice of Backup & Recovery, I deleted the control files, online redo logs and data files and restored from old backup(one month old).
Note: I want to let you know that I have all the ArchivedRedoLog files and I have also created one tablespace (tablespace: abamco_test)that is not available in old backup.
Is it possible to recover that tablespace with only ArchivedRedoLog files (No datafile backup)??????????

This is a syntax error and by removing the trailing comma the create control should bypass this error.
Wow ! Oracle made a syntax error ! why am i not surprised ? :)

  • Problem navigating from iframe

    Hello.
I have this problem: I have a page that, on the left side has a page fragment within a <div>. This fragment has the code to a navigation tree. When the user clicks on a node, it navigates to an IFRAME on the right side. That's easy. Now comes the trick...
In the Iframe, I have a button which executes a method in the javabean. But, after executing the javabean, the data in the database is changed and this change must be reflected in the tree's nodes. I thougth I solved it by using this in the onClick() property for the button: "parent.location.reload()". Actually, it does the job, but RAMDOMLY. Sometimes it does it, sometimes it doesn't. I assume this is because the server doesn't know what to execute first: the javascript or the javabean. The thing is, I need to refresh the tree (or the entire page) after executing the code in the bean.
So, basically, I have two possibilities:
    1. Find a way to execute the javascript code always AFTER the javabean, or...
    2. Find a way to use the Page Navigation xml to navigate to the "top" of the page. My main page is called mant.jsp and my iframe (where the button is) is called mant_1.jsp. If I set to navigate to mant.jsp from within mant_1, the main page will be loaded INSIDE the iframe, and obviously that's not what I want. Could there be a way to use the navigation tools to set something like "target=_top" as I'd do in normal html?
If somebody could give me a hint I'd be very grateful. If you need any more information just tell me.
    Eric.

    Sorry Andy!
I can't think of anything that would be causing this. Especially since it appears to be intermittent. There is no toggle switch for the TAB key's behavior in LR that I can find. Without having clicked in one of the number fields to start with TAB will hide and show the side panels. It shouldn't bring the focus to a slider.
If you first click in a number field and then hit the TAB key does it take you to the next number field or send the focus to a slider?
Do you have any utilities running on your Mac that may influence the TAB key's operation?
    It is a mystery!

  • Problem with usb recovery media

    Hello all,
I own a Lenovo L412. A disc test complained that my HDD is about to die, so I decided to upgrade to an SSD. I bought an SSD, an 16gb USB flash stick and an external disk enclosure. The plan was to get the OS from my R&R to the USB flash stick, replace the drive, reinstall windows from the flash disk, and use the enclosure with my old drive to copy the files I need to the new one, as long as it is alive.
So I used the thinkvantage menu to get the OS to the USB stick, it says this was done successfuly and it also does not allow me to repeat it. The problem is when I try to boot from this stick, all I get is an empty screen and the cursor blinking on the top left corner. What can I do?
    Best wishes,
    plutonas

    Hello and welcome,
Did you prep the USB flash drive before running the recovery ceation?
New or used USB memory keys or USB flash drives require an active partition created from within Wind...
If this is the problem you may be able to rescue the flash drive by one of two methods:
    1) Just set the partition active.  Use the instructions in the link above, but don't clean create or format.  Just select the partition and set active.  Anything else will erase the drive.
    2) Prepare a 2nd drive per the full set of instructions in the above link.  Then just copy the contents of the 1st drive to the 2nd one.
You've already used your one opportunity to create a recovery drive, so be careful to not erase it.  On some systems it's possible to do a hack to create a 2nd drive if necessary.
I can't guarantee this is causing the boot failure, but it's at least a possibility.

  • Problem in creating recovery media disks

I tried to create the recovery media and i am getting the message "Resources required by this application are already in use. Please retry after the other application completes". Can any one help me to solve this issue? I haven't created the recovery disk so far. Your help is much appreciated.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Been in touch with tech support about this. They said they'd call back to propose a solution but they didn't call, so after a few days I called back and found they'd closed the call and dispatched the recovery disks to me.
Just to add, my sister has an n200, its 8 months old, and has no problem creating the factory recovery media. But Its running version 4.0 of the rescue and recovery software, whereas I am running 4.21. Wondering if it was a problem with the latest version, I tried uninstalling version 4.21 on my new machine and installing the older version downloaded from the Lenovo site, but the RR app just plain wouldn't start at all.
It could be a problem with the latest release, so an update in the future could fix it.

  • Problem Navigating Apple Support Discussions

Whenever Safari 2.0.3 loads a web page in the Apple Support Discussions, all of the items beginning with "https://ssl.apple.com" return the error message "bad server certificate" in the Activity window.  Once a page loads, some of the navigation buttons don't work.  They include the "reply" buttons on some posts as well as the buttons to go to the next page.  So far, I haven't had this problem on any other web site.
Any ideas on what is causing this?

    Klaus & Ramón -
Thanks to you both for your helpful advice.  My 1st real introduction to OS X was in August when I bought a PowerBook G4.  (On 'retirement' last century, I was happily running System 8.6 on a PowerBook G3.  Forced to upgrade(?) to System 9.2.2 -- to run QuickTax.  Why is it that so many bad things are associated with taxes? [smile]  Bought the G4 after lightning took out the internal modem in my longtime companion.)
When buying the G4, I had -- naively -- assumed that the applications loaded would be the latest versions for the version of OS X that it was running.  You set me straight on that, Klaus.  So, took your advice and downloaded Safari 4.1.3 that same night -- at 4.1 to 4.5 kb/s.  Yes, I still use a dial-up internet connection.
As Ramón anticipated -- and kindly shared, Safari 4.1.3 requires OS 10.4.11.  Calculated it would take the 180+ mb combo file about 12 hours to download.  Before figuring out how to do that, the problem was solved.  Bought a 2nd G4 -- in case some unkind fate happens to the 1st G4.  It has Safari 5.0.6 installed (running OS 10.5.8).
Thanks again to you both for your assistance,
    David
