Problem: no modules loaded

Okay, here is the setup. I've been running the 2.6.8.1-3 kernel since October and have booted in and out of it a few times. When I came home today, I found that there had been a power outage. So I start up my computer and see that the network daemon as well as the alsa-mixer daemon failed to load. First the network daemon, because I'm running off of my Knoppix live cd. When I run lsmod, no modules show up. Running uname -a shows that my kernel is 2.6.8.1-3, and /var/log/pacman.d says that this has been my kernel since October. The options on all of my hard drive partitions in fstab are 'defaults'. The driver for my nic, eepro100, is in /lib/modules/2.6.8.1/kernel/drivers/net/. I'm not running hotplug, but instead loading every module I need individually, or at least trying to load. Sorry this is so scattered, but I'm just throwing out everything that I've already told people on irc.freenode.net#archlinux. Any suggestions would be helpful aside --- even "Hell I don't know, reinstall your kernel" or "reinstall Arch" would be helpful.
I'm going to go get drunk to drownd my frustrations.

I recompiled the kernel, now version 2.6.11.10. But now I have no mouse wheel, which is very annoying. Yes, the kernel was custom. I just disabled isa and irda and built modules for my hardware into the kernel. I built in eepro100, emu10k1, alsa, and usb-hid. My mouse is a Logitech MouseMan Wheel mouse. I've looked everywhere from the wiki to google. The section of my xorg.conf is as follows:
Identifier "Mouse1"
Driver "mouse"
Option "Protocol" "Auto"
Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
<edit>
Neither xev nor imwheel show any events triggered with moving the mouse wheel.

• Problem with module loading another module

I have run into what appears to be a bug in Adobe Flex 3.3, but would like others opinion. I have a simple application which loads a module.
If a user checks a box, then the module loads a submodule and calls a funtion in that submodule which modifies the UI slightly.
It really is simple code, but not easy to explain, so bear with me on this :-) All code is attached. Rename from *.txt to *.mxml.
I have added an event listener to the submodule loader for the ModuleEvent.READY event so that I can call a function in it once it is loaded (the function modifies the UI):
private function onModuleReady(event:Event):void{     Alert.show(
"Module load successful", "Success");
if (loader2.child is SubModule) {
var module:SubModule = loader2.child as SubModule;          module.createCompleteHandler();
module.modifyUI(pnlMain);
}else {          Alert.show(
"loader is NOT SubModule", "Failure");     }
Stepping through the debugger, loader2.child IS INDEED a SubModule Class, yet I consistantly step into the else clause. As I debugged this, I added a similar event listener for the READY even on the loading of the first module. By just defining a new function in the main module, this code now works. I don't have to actually call that function, just define it, meaning that if I comment out the entire function onModuleReady (the one defined in the main application that is just printing out a trace), I get the error stated above.
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?><mx:Application
xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" layout="absolute" creationComplete="createCompleteHandler()">
<mx:Script>
<![CDATA[
importMainModule;
importmx.events.ModuleEvent;
private function createCompleteHandler():void{loader.url =
"MainModule.swf";
// loader.addEventListener(ModuleEvent.READY, onModuleReady);loader.loadModule();
private function onModuleReady(event:Event):void{
if (loader.child isMainModule) {
trace("here");}
Please try the attached code, and try running it with the function onModuleReady implelented in the Application body and with it removed. Why would defining a function that is never called for the first module affect the second module?

I figured this out.  I needed to add loader.applicationDomain = ApplicationDomain.currentDomain;
This fixes the problem.

• Acer Aspire One, modules load failed and autologin problem

Hi,
I am having problem with modules loading. I haven't updated my netbook for a month or so (my motherboard was broken and it took me that long to finally repair it). After updating, which took ages and the installation size was about 2,2 GBs I have come across two problems.

I can't get the LazyModuleLoadPolicy working correctly.
In my main application (the one that loads the modules), my parsley context is the following:
<cairngorm:LazyModuleLoadPolicy objectId="lazyLoadPolicy" type="{ OpenViewMessage }" />
<cairngorm:ModuleMessageInterceptor type="{ OpenViewMessage }"/>
<cairngorm:ParsleyModuleDescriptor objectId="test"
url="TestModule.swf"
applicationDomain="{ClassInfo.currentDomain}"
/>
And to load my module:
[Inject(id="test")]
[Bindable] public var test:IModuleManager;
<core:LazyModulePod
id="moduleLoader"
moduleManager="{test}"
moduleId="testModule"
/>
with  LazyModulePod.mxml:
<mx:Canvas
xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml"
xmlns:module="com.adobe.cairngorm.module.*"
xmlns:parsley="http://www.spicefactory.org/parsley">
<mx:Script>
<![CDATA[
import com.adobe.cairngorm.module.ILoadPolicy;
import com.adobe.cairngorm.module.IModuleManager;
[Bindable]
public var moduleId:String;
[Bindable]
public var moduleManager:IModuleManager;
[Bindable]
[Inject(id="lazyLoadPolicy")]
public var lazyLoadPolicy:ILoadPolicy;
]]>
</mx:Script>
<parsley:Configure/>
<module:ViewLoader id="moduleLoader"
moduleId="{ moduleId }"
moduleManager="{ moduleManager }"
loadPolicy="{lazyLoadPolicy}">
<!--<module:loadPolicy>
<module:BasicLoadPolicy/>
</module:loadPolicy>-->
</module:ViewLoader>
</mx:Canvas>
OpenViewMessage.as in a swc:
public class OpenViewMessage
private var _moduleId:String;
private var _viewId:String;
public function OpenViewMessage(moduleId:String, viewId:String)
this._moduleId = moduleId;
this._viewId = viewId;
public function get viewId():String{
return _viewId;
[ModuleId]
public function get moduleId():String
return _moduleId;
In another flex project, my module context is:
<mx:Object
xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml"
xmlns:controler="com.cegedim.myit.controler.*">
<controler:WindowControler/>
</mx:Object>
The module implements IParsleyModule
<mx:Module xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" layout="vertical"
implements="com.adobe.cairngorm.module.IParsleyModule"
xmlns:spicefactory="http://www.spicefactory.org/parsley">
<mx:Script>
<![CDATA[
import org.spicefactory.parsley.flex.FlexContextBuilder;
import com.adobe.cairngorm.module.IParsleyModule;
public function get contextBuilder():ContextBuilderTag
return contextBuilderTag;
]]>
</mx:Script>
<spicefactory:ContextBuilder  id="contextBuilderTag" config="{ MyITTestModuleContext }"/>
<spicefactory:Configure/>
</mx:Module>
and the WindowControler:
public class WindowControler
public function WindowControler(){}
[Init]
public function initialize():void
Alert.show("Module Initialized");
[MessageHandler(scope="local")]
public function openViewMessageHandler(message:OpenViewMessage):void
Alert.show("Opening view " + message.viewId + " in the module " + message.moduleId);
If i uncomment the basicLoadPolicy in LazyModulePod.mxml and remove the lazyModuleLoadPolicy, everything works fine. The module is loaded when it's added to stage and it receives correctly messages dispatched to it. But with the lazy policy the module never loads.
I may have missed something or there is somthing i don't understand because i tried the ModuleTest provided in example in cairngorm sources. It works fine (i mean loading the moduleA2 when receiving a message), but if i replace the change the lazyModulePolicy to listen to broadcasted messages instead of a pingMessage, the module never loads too.
<cairngorm:LazyModuleLoadPolicy objectId="lazyLoadPolicy" type="{ BroadcastMessage }" />
<cairngorm:ModuleMessageInterceptor
type="{ BroadcastMessage }" moduleRef="moduleA" />
public class BroadcastMessage
public function BroadcastMessage()
If someone has any clue, i'll be happy to test it =)
Thanks.

Hello, back on my issue, i tested a little bit more the message dispaching.
I read the lazyLoadPolicy class and noticed that it always has to have a ModuleId property in the message to work, that's why the broadcast message didn't work to awake the module with the lazy loading policy.
So i added copy of my module:
<cairngorm:ParsleyModuleDescriptor objectId="test"
url="TestModule.swf"
applicationDomain="{ClassInfo.currentDomain}"
/>
<cairngorm:ParsleyModuleDescriptor objectId="testbis"
url="TestModuleBis.swf"
applicationDomain="{ClassInfo.currentDomain}"
/>
Set them both with a basicLoadPolicy, and tries to dispatch a message to only one of them using the ModuleId metatag. I then noticed that both modules received the message and not only the one i expected.
I then changed the ModuleMessageInterceptor configuration to dispatch to only one kind of module:
<cairngorm:ModuleMessageInterceptor type="{ OpenViewMessage }" moduleRef="test"/>
and this worked as expected. Only the first module catched the message. I am obiously messing with the ModuleId metatag but i cannot see what's wrong...
I compiled with
-keep-as3-metadata+=ModuleId
but this hasn't changed anything...

How can i modify my modules loaded and daemons to lower some boot time.
And why is that bluetooth is still loaded even if it's !bluetooth? And is it possible to background ntfs-3g?
Thanks all for advices!

Please clarify what you mean. If the bluetooth service is started, then there is a bug or something very very odd. IF on the contrary you mean that the bluetooth-related modules are loaded by udev, this is perfectly normal: udev autoloads modules according to your hardware, not to your services. You need to blacklist the loaded bluetooth-related kernel modules (check them with 'lsmod') and to blacklist them in the MODULES array.

• Audigy 4: DLL Module Loader (DLLML.exe) problem at shutd

Hello,
I would like to get feedback and/or confirmation on the problem I am describing below from Creative and owners of Audigy 4 Pros that are running the latest Audigy 4 Pro updates in Windows XP SP2 and an nForce 4-based system. I am convinced the problem is a driver issue. I am not sure, though, if this is similar to the known conflict between Creative's Remote Control service and nVidia's RAID service.
For Creative, I am willing to try and test a newer build of a DLLML.exe file if any are available.
Thanks in advance for your help on this.
---------- 8< cut here ----------
Summary: There seems to be a problem with version .0.3.0 of the DLL Module Loader (DLLML.exe) file that is installed by one of the 3 available web updates for the Audigy 4 Pro. In particular, after these updates are installed, the Windows XP SP2 system generates the following error on every "Turn Off" and "Restart": Application popup: Audio Driver Emulator: DLLML.exe - Application Error : The instruction at "0x0ac42f" referenced memory at "0x00000008". The memory could not be "read". Click on OK to terminate the program
The problem can be easily reproduced continuously.
Workaround: Replacing the file DLLML.exe version .0.3.0 with version .0.8.0 found in the Audigy 4 Pro CD seems to solve the problem. This file is installed in C:\Program Files\Creative\Shared Files\Module Loader. The DLLML.exe file seems to be loaded at Windows startup by a service (?) called "AudioDrvEmulator" which runs the line "C:\Program Files\Creative\Shared Files\Module Loader\DLLML.exe" - AudioDrvEmulator "C:\Program Files\Creative\Shared Files\Module Loader\Audio Emulator\AudDrvEm.dll". It li'ves in the registry under HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
Notes:
- As of today, the updates available at Creative's web site are:
* Creative Smart Recorder Patch for Creative Sound Blaster PCMCIA Audigy 2 ZS Notebook and Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 4 Pro audio cards version 2.0.56 (2 Dec 04)
* Creative Audigy 4 Pro update version 3.00.55 (20 Dec 04)
* Creative MediaSource 3 web update version 3.0.6 for PCMCIA Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Notebook and Sound Blaster Audigy 4 (29 Dec 04)
- The updates were applied from the oldest to the newest, one at a time, rebooting after each update was installed.
- The system is a freshly installed Windows XP SP2 (slipstream) w/all the latest WindowsUpdate updates. Data Execution Prevention (DEP) has been disabled in the "boot.ini" file to work around a known issue with the latest nVidia network driver available for the nForce 4 chipset.
- The system runs on an Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe w/003 BIOS, AMD Athlon 64 3500+, Mushkin 2GB PC3200 DDR 222 Black L2 Hi Perf LII V2, and Asus EAX800XT/PE/2DHTV/256. The system runs a Stripe RAID setup with a pair of WD Raptor HDs.
- The system is run at stock speeds (i.e. no overclocking) and all the drivers are the latest version available from each manufacturer (none are BETA).
Additional notes: The stock Audigy 4 Pro drivers have a known conflict with the "nvraidservice.exe"-based service when the Creative Entertainment Center's remote control service is run. Having these 2 services running at the same time would cause the "nvraidservice" to fail at Windows startup, and a few DCOM-related errors to be logged in the event logs. This issue with the nVidia RAID service stopped after applying the Audigy 4 Pro updates and disabling the remote control altogether in the Creative Entertainment Center control panel.

Yes, using the DLLML.exe from the CD should work as it does in my setup. Do a search using the Windows search tool, and it should find two identical instances of the file in the CD, one of them in a CAB file. You should be able to copy & paste either instance to your C: dri've's location as long as the DLLML.exe file is not already loaded/running in memory.
I had sent Creative's support an e-mail with exactly the same information, but unfortunately the first response I got from them was to do a cleansweep and install of the Creative software. I say "unfortunately" because Creative did not describe what are we trying to accomplish by "tainting" a fresh format/XP SP2 install with a massi've uninstall & reinstall of Creative software, even when I hoped narrowing the issue down to what seems to be a trivial EXE would have triggered some ideas as to what might be wrong with that particular version of the EXE file (i.e. it seems to be, after all, a DDL file loader, which does not seem to be driver engine code per se, but instead a DLL memory loader).
As I mentioned to them, this system simply has a fresh XP install, all OS updates, all peripheral drivers, and the Creative card and software was the last thing installed in the box. No tweaks other than DEP turned OFF, no overclocking, no extraneous services running in the background, not even any additional software. Installation of the software was done by the letter, with proper reboots.
I would appreciate if someone has an idea of what may be accomplished by a re-install of Creative software on a fresh OS install when the problem is squarely on the DLLML.exe file. You can be as specific as pinpointing DLL or registry entries that such a re-install is suppossed to fix (i.e. I am using the wrong files; a registry entry has the wrong value, etc.), and how this would have happened when following the installation steps as documented.
Thanks in advance.

• Module loader problem

Hi,
when a user click on menu item., I am using module loader to load the module which will be added as a child to the tab navigator in my main application. The user can click on same menu item more than once.
so same module can present in the diiferent tab of tab navigator.
when can i unload the module?.If user closes every tab, do i need to call unload() on every loaded module. If i call unload() on every loaded module, the same module present in the another tab is not working properly. It gives an null object reference, if i click on an button in it.
Regards,
Thiru

Hi,
Thanks for your reply.
When i use unload on module loaded on tab, will the corresponding module swf file from memory will be removed or not?
If the module swf file is removed , then will it affect same module loaded in another tab?
I am not clear about , when the module swf file will be removed from memory.
Regards,
Thiru

• [Solved] ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2300 Problem - fglrx not loading

I changed the currently unreliable GS 8600 nvidia card in my laptop to a compatible old ATI HD 2300 card from a similar model laptop but I can't get the Catalyst drivers to work with it. The open source driver xf86-video-ati works well with it for basic use, but is not so good for 3D. This card should work with an Amilo xi-2428 & has done for other people who have developed faulty nvidia cards.
I have the legacy driver installed from AUR (Catalyst-total-hd234k) and have enabled Vi0L0's [xorg112] server properly in pacman.conf & downgraded to Xorg-server 1.12. I also tried downgrading to Xorg-server 1.11 & reinstalling the drivers from AUR. Plus I have enabled and tried Vi0L0's [catalyst-hd234k] repo in place of the AUR package each time too. Made no difference. I've blacklisted radeon too.
When the laptop boots systemd-modules-load.service shows as failed.
$ sudo systemctl --failed
UNIT LOAD ACTIVE SUB DESCRIPTION
systemd-modules-load.service loaded failed failed Load Kernel Modules

It is only the fglrx module which fails to load:-

I have no idea how to get fglrx to load & since it fails to load so early during boot I doubt the problem lies with my Xorg.conf. Likewise neither aticonfig or the ATI control center work.
aticonfig: No supported adapters detected
amdcccle just give this message

Solved. The ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2300 was based on an earlier design & was not really one of the HD 2*** cards, even tho it was released as one (HD 2*** cards are R600 series while the HD 2300 is based on the R500 generation). So the offical drivers for it were relegated to legacy in 2009 with AMD's Catalyst 9.3 release & are no longer supported. Pretty crappy considering the HD 2300 was only on the market from 2007.
To use the official catalyst drivers would require xorg 1.5.3 and kernel 2.6.29..... with no support for newer distros.
Using open source drivers, cannot remember all the packages but have listed some below in case it helps anyone:-
xf86-video-ati
ati-dri
lib32-ati-dri
libtxc_dxtn
lib32-libtxc_dxtn
mesa
lib32-mesa
No xorg.conf needed for it using kms, but can make a config file to tweak if you like in the xorg.conf.d directory called 20-radeon.conf

Thanks for the response. It is not an obvious hardware issue. I would contact HP phone support to get the hardware addressed. You can utilize this website to learn how to contact HP appropriately, based on your region: Contact HP Worldwide

• [SOLVED]3.18.5-1-ARCH + system-modules-load.service on Macbook Pro 9,2

After upgrading from 3.18.4-1-ARCH to 3.18.5-1-ARCH this weekend, my systemd service system-modules-load fails during bootup. I checked out
# systemctl status system-modules-load
and found nothing but a warning that my journal has been rotated and the log output is incomplete. I have not hunted down the log or rooted through dmesg as of yet - I need my system functional while working during the week, so I downgraded my kernel back to 3.18.4 for now (under which system-modules-load loads fine). I will reinstall 3.18.5 next weekend and see if I can locate the problem - this post is just a feeler to see if anyone else is encountering this problem with the latest kernel.

Yep. It was my own fault. I had been using the b43 driver for my BCM4331 wifi card, and recently switched to broadcom-wl. However, I still was trying to load b43 in /etc/modules-load even though I had removed the driver and module from my system. Not sure why my system only started complaining in 3.18.5, but in any case removing the offending .conf file solved the problem. Thanks, graysky.

• PHP server didn't have mysql module loaded

i'm using dreamweaver 8 and develop application on php +

Run <?php phpinfo(); ?> and check whether mbstring,
mysql, and mysqli
are listed in the configuration. You need all three to work
successfully
with MySQL 5 and PHP 5.
Remove the semicolon from the beginning of the following
line:
;extension=php_mbstring.dll
Also add this to the list of Windows extensions in php.ini:
extension=php_mysqli.dll
If MySQL and MySQLI aren't listed in the configuration page,
it means
that Windows can't find libmysql.dll. You either need to add
the PHP
folder to your Windows PATH, or to copy libmysql.dll from the
PHP folder
to C:\Windows\system32.
Restart IIS after making the changes.

The only difference I have with respect to a standard installation is that I downloaded an older version of the backport drivers, and in doing so I surely re-installed gspca.
So my questions are: where is systemd-module-load searching for gspca? How can I persuade it to search in the right directory? And in any case, why is it searching for it in the wrong place to start with?. Just in case,
# uname -a

Problem solved, thanks to both of you guys. For some resason, I had a webcam.conf file in /etc/modules-load.d containing the single line *gspca*, which is not a module: both modprobe and insmod fail, because the correct module name is one of those listed in /lib/modules/`uname -r`/kernel/drivers/media/usb/gspca. They are called gspca_benq.ko gspca_konica.ko and so on. I simply deleted the file since I do not need it.
As for backport drivers: this site, http://drvbp1.linux-foundation.org/~mcg … backports/ has the most recent versions of Linux drivers, backported so that older kernels can install them (I understand this is not a concern for fellow Archers). Whenever I need to upgrade (mostly on Debian) or downgrade (a few times on Arch, because an older version of a driver is free of a newly minted bug) I download these drivers, compile them and install them from source.

• Failed systemd-modules-load - X won't start

So i recently updated my arch system, and after a restart i couldn't start a vnc session with it.
Soon after that i discovered that X isn't running, so i checked journalctl -xn to find out that
systemd-module-load
has failed to start.
At the startup, it also shows that that module has failed to load and the startup process is stuck at
[reached] target graphical interface
Only way to do stuff is to get on another ttyl or connect per ssh.
What i tried so far (read somewhere that these helped some people)
- Reinstall catalyst with aticonfig --initial
- Reinstall systemd-tools
- mkinitcpio -p linux, result is successfull
Current version i'm running:
Arch 3.8.5-1 64bit
Ati Catalyst 13.3-5

Fehler: Konnte den Vorgang nicht vorbereiten (Kann Abhängigkeiten nicht erfüllen)
:: lib32-catalyst-utils: benötigt catalyst-utils
It's german, but it basically says that there are open dependencies.
So trying to delete lib32-catalyst-utils states same message with other packages.
So i try to recursively remove the packages dependent on catalyst-utils
sudo pacman -Rnsc catalyst-utils

• Best place to specify module load

Hi all, I am having problems lately with the network modules. I have an nforce2 board with integrated network hardware and a realtek network card, and now and then the integrated interface stops working, so I have switched to the external to avoid the nuissance.
But it raises a question that has been looming for a time (with all these changes in initrd, etc.): What is the best or appropriate place for specifying module load? /etc/rc.conf, /etc/mkinitrd.conf, /etc/modprobe.conf?

The recommended way to load modules is to make sure /etc/rc.conf has
MOD_AUTOLOAD="yes"
so that the modules required by your system are detected and loaded automatically. If you have some unusual hardware that escapes autodetection, or some undetected modules that require boot-time loading, they should be listed in rc.conf MODULES.
mkinitrd.conf is used to specify the modules required to allow your system to boot, and modprobe.conf allows you to fine-tune module loading by setting aliases, module options, or additional install commands.

• Systemd system-modules-load error [Solved]

Might be just that naming of sg has changed have updated and tried to run mkinicpio but it still does not find module?
Solved put it down to a bad dd clone of drive partition, have rerun and all seems to working now.

• Kernel module loading error. "relocation error: R_AMD64_32"

I am in the process of porting a stable sparc64 kernel module to amd64 and have run into a road block. When the module loads on amd64 I recieve many errors like the one below.
Jun 25 10:35:09 earth genunix: [ID 370954 kern.notice] symbol :
Jun 25 10:35:09 earth genunix: [ID 780480 kern.notice] value 0xffffffffc008b708 does not fit
Jun 25 10:35:09 earth genunix: [ID 286029 kern.notice] relocation error: R_AMD64_32:
I using Studio 12 and I have used many combinations of compiler flags the latest of which is:
-m64 -KPIC -fast -xmodel=medium
Nothing to this point has solve the problem.
Have I missed something in the documentation? Are there other compiler flags for amd64 that I am not aware of?
Thanks

unfortunately, that's the case now. I forgot to say about it:
CC -fast -xtarget=opteron -m64 -xmodel=medium -KPIC -DLEVEL=0 ...thanks for your reply,
