Problem - No Video Preview in Monitor Window

Hi,
I recently got the CS4 bundle, and I installed the update for Encore (4.0.1).
I wanted to insert some chapter markers in a timeline, but I need the video to display in the monitor view of the workspace. I can hear the audio, but I can't get any video to display in the monitor view. It usually just displays the grey color used as the background color of the workspace. The monitor view acts like it's freezing up. The flowchart doesn't perform this way. The monitor worked fine in Premiere Pro, so why is it having problems here? Has anyone else had this problem? If so, how did you remedy it?
I don't think it's a hardware issue. I realize I could go back into Premiere Pro and insert the chapter markers, but at some point, I need that monitor feature! Again, any insight would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for your time!
Mick

Mike,
Sorry that I cannot comment directly on CS4, as I do not have it yet. Going back to pre-CS3 versions, one just Exported from PP to files (I happen to use DV-AVI (video only) and AC3 (Audio only for DD 5.1 SS). I use PP2's Export>Movie for the DV-AVI and Export>AME for the AC3.
With CS3, one could Export>Encore. This seemed to be a fairly direct Export, but did cause problems for some. With CS4, Adobe has added a version of DL (Dynamic Link), similar to what has existed between PP and AE. Now, one could use DL between Encore2 and AE, but it was not quite full implementation (IMHO), and was more suited for animated Menus, more than full AV files. Here, I do not know exactly how the DL function works between PP and Encore. Others will have to step in here.
You *should* still be able to do your Export>AME from PP, and then manually Import these files into Encore to do your Project. I'd still use elemental streams (one Video file and one Audio file) for these, though many Export muxed single files.
For the use of the newly implemented DL (it just might not preview - I don't know), maybe Jbowden, Stanley, Jeff or Ruud can give you the definitive statement and also instructions for doing it the best way. In the meantime, I'd try the old Export method. I'd also do it so that Encore does the Transcoding on "automatic" so there are no bit-rate problems.
Sorry I do not know CS4 better,
Hunt

  • Poor video playback in Encore 2.0 preview and monitor window . . .

I'm having a strange issue with my video playback in the preview and monitor windows. At some points it displays as blocks (like digital noise). I unchecked the "Automatic" option in the A/V Output dialog as described in the manual. Still, nothing changed.
To make sure it was Encore that had the problem, and not the file, I played my MPG2 files through PowerDVD, and nothing wrong with the playback in there. What is Encore 2.0 doing? How can I fix this problem???
    Any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks!

What Mouse drivers are you using please?
This might sound silly, but under 1.5 (Different preview engine, true, so this may be completely wrong) I found that with a later revision of the MS Intellipoint drivers, I had exactly the same issue.
We worked this out by realizing the green blocks appeared as soon as the mouse was moved. As with your cases, the discs still burned true proving it is a preview related issue.
Uninstalling & reverting back to version 4.1 made it all go away.
But since the preview engine is now the PPro one, this might not work any more.

  • Can't resize video in Sequence monitor window anymore ???

OK Help... I have been working on a project in CS4 and the project settings are HD 1080. I have been able to bring in other SD clips and simply "click" on the video in the monitor window and a box comes up around the video and I can resize it and then render and it looks acceptable. This works if I want to shrink it and have a black border also. Now the ability to do this is GONE ! Same computer - same everything. I click and there is no box or ability to re-size. Only thing I ever did was load up another project at one time in standard DV - NTSC and encoded with Encore.  Whats Wrong

Glad that you found it. You can also do the same thing with the Bounding Box, if you open the Effects Control Panel, and then click on the name Motion in the Effects list there, and you'll get a Bounding Box in the Program Panel. Personally, I like the numerical method, but some like the Bounding Box.

  • Problems with video previews: image freezes when scrubbing (CS6)

I just installed CS6 on my computer after working with CS5.5 and I encountered a strange problem with my EOS5D Mk 2 and also Ixus 100IS footage in Bridge CS6 (actually this happens with every video).
In CS5.5 I was able to preview my mov files and scrub through them without many problems (aside from a casual crash, but hey... )
In CS6 now the video preview starts and everything seems fine, until I scrub to a later point in the video. At that point the video freezes but the sound goes on. The only way to make the video run again is to click pause and then click play again. You can imagine that scrubbing through videos isn't much fun..
Has anyone ever had a problem like that with CS6?
Since CS5.5 is still installed, I checked and found out, that in Bridge CS5.5 everything is still working fine: No video freezes there - only in CS6
I already updated to the latest graphics card driver and all updates from CS6. Does anyone have an idea what I could do?
    some stats about my computer:
    win7 64bit
nvidia geforce GTX 590, driver 301.42
    no other video software installed
Aside from that, I also realized that video quality in the preview area isn't particularly brilliant (neither in CS5.5 nor in CS6). Since the video is scaled to the preview window size, I sometimes get scaling artefacts/moirees. Is there a way to smooth the video playback, like you could in a regular video player?

Perhaps your understanding of rendering is different than mine.  I think of it more as combining edits to form a new video.  Are you using rendering as the same as playback?   Also, not sure how you can have a system that has only CS6 files, as files are the same for CS5.5.  I must be missing something here.
Manniac described the error well "In CS6 now the video preview starts and everything seems fine, until I scrub to a later point in the video. At that point the video freezes but the sound goes on. The only way to make the video run again is to click pause and then click play again".
Believe that error is fixed as my video play OK now.

  • Cinelerra problem with video in the composer window

    Hi,
After going through many distributions here I am a happy User's Arch.
One thing I feel very lacking in Linux, even more today that I do not use windows at home for anything is the fact that I can not find video editing software that is really good.
As researched a lot and not found anything that is really good in terms of video editing, I believe that it should meet my Cinelerra nescessidade because he in fact work this transaction and videos, etc ... Despite not liking anything on your interface would be able to use it.
If anyone has any tips please help!
The problem is that some crashes are annoying in the Composition window where it plays the video, it's not like I had with 3D acceleration.
And really annoying, I can not do anything without seeing the video in real time as it's getting and the parties must move ...
I tested several software recommended and one that I liked was the Avidemux which unfortunately does not work with multitrack and has no effect. The demics found it very bug. The Pitivi the crash here whenever I zoom in the video track ...
An error that could not noticing this is in red below when I install Cinelerra.

    Hi,
I noticed that the problem is related to libgl same.
The NVIDIA drivers make a link to this file sombolico thus
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 10 Out 10 20:12 /usr/lib/libGL.so -> libGL.so.1
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 15 Out 10 20:12 /usr/lib/libGL.so.1 -> libGL.so.256.53
    -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 765460 Out 10 20:12 /usr/lib/libGL.so.256.53
I tried to remove the symbolic link and the program crash when I play the video
I think that's why I can not use other programs that want video acceleration, eg
Pitivi -> lock and close (crash) when I zoom video
Google-Earth -> tb's crash when a dialog will appear (those with balõezinhos info)
There is another that I can not remember now.
I tried using the nvidia driver directly from the site, version 256.53 Geforce 9800 GT
    It's the same problem ...
I tried the version contained in the 173 nvidia pacman repositories and it's the same problem.
If someone can give me a help, thank you!

  • Problem with RAM preview in Windows 7, AE 5.5

Hi there, I'm kind of a newbe with After Effect 5.5, have to make an animation for school and although I've already figured out how to make some magic with the program, I'm stuck on the RAM preview (yes, the one you get by hitting 0 if anyone asks). It gets stuck after 15-22 fps and that's it. I've searched forums, and comments and articles and whatsoever and the authores where having this issue when having Macs. Well, I don't, that's what I have:
    64 bit Windows 7
    Intel Core i7-2630QM CPU @ 2,00GHz
    6,00 RAM
graphic card NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M
    (any more details needed?)
I've also tried many combinations with checking/unchecking OpenGL, changing Video Preview (Computer Monitor Only or IEEE 1394 Pal <=don't even know what that is, but maybe you'll want to know), and of course Multiprocessing (image below) turning it off ond on.
Compositions in my animation are for now just jpg's, png's and some psd layers, with some scaling and small dropshadows, nothing too fancy for now so I'm even more surprised I get the "Insufficient RAM" allert. (AE is the only running program except for GoogleChrome to search for possible solutions) Of course I need to add the sound but it's pointless until I figure out the RAM preview problem.
I think that's all the details, but if you need more just ask.
Please help me guys (and try to answer in simple English), it's really getting on my nerves and my deadline is coming...

I'm not sure that I completely understand what you are saying. Depending on the amount of available ram and the size and frame rate of the composition (not in your post) you may only get 15 to 22 seconds of playback. If it's only playing back at 15 to 22 FPS then you're choking your system. The first thing to do is to try setting the resolution of our comp to half and the zoom factor to 50%.
Now that I take a close look at your screen shot, that's not going to help much. Surprise, surprise! You don't have nearly enough ram to have Render Multiple Frames Simultaneously checked. You need 4GB per processor minimum. With 8 CPU's you'll need 32 GB of ram to take advantage of all your cores for AE and you'll still need 1 of them for background apps. Take a close look at the settings:
How much ram is allocated for background apps? 1GB, How many CPU's will be used for the background apps like writing to disk and reading from disk, which are necessary for ram preview? 0, zero, nada. That's not exactly accurate or your system wouldn't run at all, but it shows the problem clearly. You've manually choked your fairly powerful computer by tying upp it's resources in a manner that causes it to choke on memory and read write cycles. Even with 6GB of ram you've starved the system to death.
You've also allocated all of your ram to AE. Don't do that. Leave at least 1 GB for other apps, 2 would be better.
Redo the settings and AE should work just fine. BTW, this info is clearly stated in the ram and memory allocation help pages for AE.

  • Elements 3.0.2 jumpy video playback in monitor

i am using premiere elements 3.0.2 and get really bad jumpy video in the monitor window. this is for very short mpeg4 clips that play beautifully in other media players on my laptop e.g. zune software - so this is NOT a computer hardware issue.
i am using an xacti camera that shoots 720p hd at 30fps and i have set all the project settings correctly - i am shooting 720p at a high bit rate.
any clues on what is causing the jumpiness?
    thanks
    andrew

i rendered a section of the timeline using the enter key - that gave me smooth playback. it's disappointing that premiere 3 wont play mpeg4 hd smoothly without this.
next i outputed the whole project to mp2. i am not clear why it wouldn't allow me to output to an mp4 hd format. what i am finding is that this software has tons of limitations with respect to editing hd
    in mp4.
any clues on whether 7.0 is improved in this department?

  • Audio,  Premiere Elements 13 (Trial), Samsung Ultrabook NP730U3E with Windows 8.1 ! The problem: If I transfer a clip  from the monitor window to the timeline the audio disapears

On the moment that I transfer a scene from the monitor window to the timeline, my audio disapears. In the monitor window the sound is playing well. How can I solve this problem ?

    gertdd
    Please explain.
You cannot move a clip from the Edit area monitor to the Timeline. When you write "monitor window", are you referring to the Preview Window that opens when you double click a file's thumbnail in Project Assets?
If that is the case, are you waiting for the audio imported to Project Assets to conform fully before you start to work with the import? See bottom right of Expert workspace and the appearance of a progress bar. See any conforming going on there?
Do you get sound for your clip if you drag it from Project Assets to the Timeline Video Track 1/Audio Track 1 rather than if you drag a trim from the Preview Window to the Timeline (as it appears you are doing).
Please review and consider, and then let me know if I have misinterpreted any of your problem description.
The answers will be in the details.
We will be watching for those details to help us help you.
    Thank you.

  • Dual Monitors Windows 7 Problems

Ok, this problem is getting really annoying and I think its a problem with windows 7 itself and not my computer.
Basically I have a dual monitor setup with the left hand monitor as my secondary and right hand monitor as my primary.  Whenever I have an application with any graphics on it at all such as a progress bar on my left hand monitor moving windows around becomes laggy and juddery, yet this doesn't happen when the graphical app is on my primary monitor!

    What iv tried:
    Updating to latest drivers
Upgraded system memory from 2GB to 4GB
    Installing 64-bit version
removing sound card and re-installing windows from scratch
    upgraded my PSU
    Thanks for your help!

(Latest update) This is the best I can do to alleviate the problem, and does reduce its severity immensely, but I found myself still noticing some slight playback glitches in videos on my second monitor which probably also translate to anything else with movement. I have tested with a panning scene in one of my videos and there is a subtle micro-stutter on my second monitor which I can find no way to fix. This doesn't occur if outputting to a single display, one or the other, nor does it occur when playing the video on my primary monitor in a dual-monitor configuration. Note that when I say "primary monitor", I am not referring to the monitor Windows has marked as primary, but my actual monitor rather than TV. In a dual-monitor configuration, this micro-stutter will only occur when playing video on my right monitor (TV), regardless of settings or which ports the monitors are connected to on the GPU. The micro-stutter occurs with no relation to the activity on the other screen, as it can be completely still. I can confirm the micro-stutter does not occur at all with Desktop Window Manager (Aero) disabled. In short, this is a nightmare.
(Note that this micro-stutter is equally replicable in the 182.50 (WDDM1.1-less) driver, meaning there is no way to solve it other than disabling Aero or outputting to a single monitor.)
I think I've solved the problem.. for me, anyway. I've divided this into short answer and "long answer", which is closer to a stream of consciousness in some ways, as I found out about Force10Level9 as I was writing.
    The short version:
I've found some registry keys which seem to have fixed the problem for me. I haven't experienced any side effects, but use the tweaks at your own risk!
I don't know exactly what they do. This comes from a lot of.. experimentation. I believe FrameRateMin tells the Desktop Window Manager that it's crucial to try to keep the framerate at or above the value specified (more details below), and Force10Level9 sounds like it forces DWM to use DirectX 9. I'm fairly certain about the former, not as certain about the latter, but together they do wonders.
You can view the fix below. You can then save it as a .reg file and import it into your registry. Restart the Desktop Window Manager service or reboot to see the changes.
    Fix: http://pastebin.com/FFDbubw9
    Undo: http://pastebin.com/zA8CJY06
(P.S. Just ran a FurMark test between fix applied and no fix. No difference in performance, with an inactive secondary monitor. I also noticed no difference in Physical Memory usage as reported by Task Manager. YMMV, let me know if you have any side effects.)
(P.P.S. The screen fade that happens when you log in/out is just as choppy as before (or if it wasn't choppy for you, that shouldn't have changed). Oh well, how often do we see that thing, anyway? :))
By the way, it appears 10Level9 is Windows 7's emulation platform for running DX10 on DX9 hardware. It's reported to be at least a 0.5x performance hit, so it's surprising that it actually makes Aero run better. If this article is anything to go by, Force10Level9 makes Aero run exactly the same as it does with older WDDM 1.0-only drivers like 182.50: http://www.techarp.com/showarticle.aspx?artno=637&pgno=1
    The long version:
Well... I was able to do one more thing.
There is an undocumented registry key which allows you to fine-tune the Desktop Window Manager's scheduling. Unfortunately, all of its values seem to be defunct in the final version of Windows 7 we all use today... except one: FrameRateMin.
From what I gather, the Desktop Window Manager (Aero) carefully monitors the framerate it is able to achieve, and when it can't measure up to its own expectations, it will perform a "step down", or framerate reduction, and maintain this lower framerate for a given period of time (at one time specifiable with a registry value) before trying again at maximum speed.
I presume it does all this to keep things looking "smooth".
The problem is, in most cases, it doesn't help, and actually prolongs the stuttering duration. By "in most cases", I mean in every case it's happened in my personal usage of my Windows 7 computers.
So what helped me was setting this FrameRateMin value to 60. That way, the Desktop Window Manager considers anything under 60fps to be unacceptable and will not remain at a lower framerate for purposes of perceived smoothness. Thus, the stuttering will take up as little time as possible, making it nearly unnoticeable most of the time.
Keep in mind DWM shouldn't be having performance problems to begin with, but apparently in some cases, like with my particular hardware (desktop and laptop) and the latest NVIDIA drivers, it does.
Down to brass tacks. The registry key is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\DWM\Schedule. The value is FrameRateMin, a DWORD representing the minimum framerate DWM will consider as acceptable. I set it to 60, but you can set it to whatever you want.
To repeat, this WILL NOT prevent Aero from ever getting below the framerate you specify; it simply prevents Aero from retaining a lower framerate after a stutter in order to give the illusion of smoothness (an illusion which fails).
I imagine the main reason it fails so spectacularly in my usage is because I watch a lot of videos which play back at 24fps. Such a framerate plays back terribly with a 30Hz refresh rate, which is what Aero would reduce itself to for extended lengths of time. Now, performance hiccups are minimal, but sadly still existent.
So this isn't a solution, but it does help. I am still uncertain of where the problem lies, considering GPU-Z shows graphics card loads to be as low as always when it's happening.
Oh, and I found one more registry value. This one is far more important. :) It solves the problem for me entirely, from what I can tell.
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Avalon.Graphics
add the DWORD value Force10Level9 with a value of 1.
I haven't noticed any side effects, just smooth performance.
Apply these tweaks at your own risk!

  • Bridge CS 6 preview problem with video files

    Hey Community,
I have a problem with the preview in Adobe Bridge Cs 6.
With the pictures and photos everything is fine, but every kind of video format is not displayed as a preview in the preview window, so that I have to open each video manually by doubleclicking on it, so that it is opens in Quicktime.
Is there an opportunity to get that fixed? I just see the Quicktime or VLC-Icon, nothing more.
I tried to purge to cache, to set everything to defaults but nothing worked.
Thank you in advance und best regards.
    Alex

Doubleclicking on the files in Bridge causes that quicktime or VLC or itunes (depending on the file format) will open that, but bridge does not handle anything?!
Bridge CC and Bridge CS6 both handle my .mov files from EOS 1Dx and iPhone without any problems. The show in the preview window and can be played with sound in this same window. (MacPro with 10.8.4)
Purging cache is what it is, it dumps the previous cache of the preview and forces Bridge to create a new one, nothing else is set to default.
First try a reset of preferences and hold down option key while restarting Bridge and choose reset prefs. then try again.

  • Multiple Screens Disables Monitor Video Preview

I have noticed a new bug (for me anyway) that on my Mac Pro with two video cards I cannot load clips into the monitor and get a preview. I see the clip thumbnails in the timeline, but no video preview. I just tested this by unplugging my secondary displays and that resolved the issue. Haven't yet tested with the laptop using an external display.
I did just update to Mac OS 10.9 Mavericks, but I was seeing this behavior prior to that. Anyone else seeing this behavior?

    Hi -
Thanks for your post and attention!!
I could reproduce your problem on a Mac Pro with two graphic cards. The video could playback in Timeline panel and could hear the audio, but could not see the thumbnail view in Monitor panel.  I have opened a bug for this and our team are investigating it.
    Thanks & Best regards,

  • Monitor window problems in CS4?

I just upgraded to CS4 from an older version.  I have Premiere Pro 4.2.1.  I'm using it on a Windows XP machine.
The monitor window is not behaving at all as expected.
I imported a Photoshop file to use as a still for a few seconds.  The thumbnail in the upper left corner of the project window looks fine, but the colors in the monitor window are really bizarre.  For example, the white background of the Photoshop file is displayed in the monitor window as a horrid salmon color.  The places that should be red in the Photoshop file display in the monitor window as royal blue.  I tried exporitng the sequence to an AVI file, and the colors came out fine in the AVI file.  So the problem appears to be confined to the behavior of the monitor window.
When I move the slider back and forth in the timeline window, I would expect the monitor window to display whichever frame I'm passing over.  But it doesn't.  It'll update the view (with incorrect colors) when I pass the slider in the Timeline window over a still, but if I pass the slider over a clip, it just preserves the display of the most-recently-displayed still.
I have also noticed that there is no longer a help file local on my hard disk - when I click o nthe "help" choice from the menu bar, and then pick "Adobe Premier Pro Help", instead of accessing a local help file, it goes out to Adobe's web site.  This was EXTREMELY annoying when I was trying to use this stuff on an airplane without web access!  How am I supposed to get help when I don't have Internet access?????
Can anybody point me in the right direction to solve these problems?

The links in this ARTICLE might prove useful. Most often, this is caused by either an outdated video driver, or perhaps a setting for Hardware Acceleration, OpenGL, or similar.
Also, as Harm mentions, make sure that your PSD is RGB 8-bit, and is also appropriately Scaled in PS to near the Frame Size of the Project. Usually, CMYK, or 16-bit PSD's will yield error messages.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Weird video preview problem... frustrating!

Hi, I wonder if anyone else has had this problem... ?
I had a project that was working fine, but now I cannot watch a video preview by pressing enter or space. The timeline renders the preview then does nothing, just sits there. The play button in the program monitor changes to the stop symbol, just like it does when the video preview plays normally, but no video or audio is playing...

  • Time line monitor window video size

I don't know what I have done, But I am working on Christmas videos and had made one video and it was all right. I then started a new one and in the work space monitor window everything looks way to big and I only see part of the video that I am previewing. I have found by searching that I can move the window off to one side and grab the bars and resize it down to the right size. But a soon as I grab another video I have to do it again. Like I said I have done some thing and don't know what I did. I have been searching and trying things for about 3 hours now and it is time for a rest. I have been using abobe premier for many years and I have never encountered this before.
    Thanks
    Wayne
