Problem Normalizing VBR MP3's, Creative Media Toolbox 6, Zen 3

Anybody else using Media Toolbox 6 to normalize MP3's? Ripping with Media Explorer at max quality VBR then normalizing? with Media Toolbox 6. More often than not the size of the normalized track is a fraction of the original and consequently terrible quality (eg. down from 7 meg to meg). Sometimes it is only one track on an album, while the other tracks are all smaller by anything from a few k to a meg or so, but doesn't appear to affect the quality. More often than not the whole album will be affected.
I have tried normalizing with CBR ripped MP3's and there doesn't seem to be a problem.
Does anybody have any idea why this is happening?
I know I should just give up, accept the software sucks and re-rip and normalize the albums in question at CBR, but I hate giving up (and I paid for the ****ed software!).
I've been in contact with support but they insist I'm the only person who has ever mentioned this problem (therefore it must be me causing the probelm, not Creative software), and keep advising me to re-set the player and re-install the firmware etc. I've told them there is no problem with the player but they don't appear to be reading my emails.

My advice to anyone that cares about their music and mp3's, the only decent program that works without problems, does what it says and doesn't corrupt your files is MP3Gain and guess what...... it's 00% freeware !!
I've been using it since 2004 never had a problem and it's very simple to use, don't bother with anything else get working files and save your cash !!
Here is the link:? http://mp3gain.sourceforge.net/
MP3Gain does not just do , as many normalizers do. Instead, it does some to determine how loud the file actually sounds to the human ear.
Also, the changes MP3Gain makes are completely lossless. There is no quality lost in the change because the program adjusts the mp3 file directly, without decoding and re-encoding.

• Problem with a patch for Creative Media Explorer for Ze

Has anyone had any problems with their PC (rebooting itself after install and getting a blue screen) when downloading and installing the update for Creative Media Explorer for Zen M to fix the album art problem for WMP?I downloaded this update per a response I got to thread here:http://forums.creative.com/creativel...ssage.id=79299?I downloaded the patch to update Creative Media Explorer. I was going to upgrade WMP to after that?but my PC got stuck at the startup screen during boot up. The hard dri've light indicator was on solid also. I thought maybe the dri've had died since I have had it for quite some time now. I took the dri've out and put it in an external enclosure I have that connects via USB. I was able to get into BIOS and set the boot order to boot from a USB dri've. When it started to boot up, it looked as if it was going to come up but it didn't. I seen a flash of a blue screen and the PC rebooted itself. I'm wondering if the update is causing the OS to hose up on start up. That's why I'm just wondering if anyone has downloaded this update with any problems. The update can be found here: http://us.creative.com/support/downl...ype=3&x=40&y=7. It is number 5. I'm currently defraging my dri've and I am somehow going to try and repair the OS if I can and uninstall Media Explorer and reinstall. Oh one other thing, it will not boot into safe mode either.

I downloaded the patch and installed it on my PC and everything worked like a charm, and right after that my music started showing Album Art.However, I still didn't replace the new firmware on my Zen Vision M (.6) and I wonder if I should, since everything seems to work wonderfully well at this point?

• Creative media toolbox installation prob

I have just purchased the media toolbox as i want to rip cds to mp3 and the creative website says i get the free mp3 audio pack with it. However when i start the install setup it wants to update the adobe software and after i have updated the adobe software i run the install again and it wont go beyond the adobe part. i am with the elite pro on vista 64 on an intel quad with 4 gb of ddr2.
I am getting disheartened with this i expected full functionality and an easy install.
any help would be welcome from either creative or a forum member.
regards

All seems to be ok now. I downloaded the softwarre again last night, this time on a different dri've, and all the programs seemed to download fine. I am now in the process of transferring tracks from my old Jukebox Zen to the new Zen Vision M. I did still have the old Creative software installed, so perhaps this is where the problem came from? That is all I could really come up with if someone else encounters the same error messages. Anyway, all is working fine now. I can't seem to get the album artwork to appear, but one thing at a time, and there seems to be a lot of information on the forum about this problem. Peter

• Activation Key Error for Creative Media Toolbox 6

Recently purchased SB X-Fi HD USB with Media Toolbox 6. X-Fi HD running fine but haven't tested all inputs and outputs.

Already disabled firewall and tried downloading software from Creative site instead of disk but still get the same error.
Also sent this to Customer Support 7 days ago but still no response.

I experienced this persistent problem as well. I tried installing the latest FlashPlayer a couple of times via IE7, to no effect.
Then I noticed this thread: http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/view...n_966&sliceId=
I downloaded the uninstaller and ran it, as advised here: http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/view..._457&sliceId=2

• Creative Media Toolbox 6 prob

This is a problem I had when I first installed it on my machine running XP and now again with XPx64, so it wasn't related to the OS (I hope).
It installs OK, but when I try to run it, the splash screen comes up, then the 4 options "create? enhance? organize convert" show up, but if I don't choose one of them in about .2 seconds, it won't let me do anything and I have to close it and try again. And even if I am able to choose one of those and access one of the sub-options, once I exit that activity and the main menu comes up again I can't choose anything from it. It pretty much freezes up, but can be closed without any more trouble.
Any ideas? Or just another one of Creative's piss-poor installations?

• Creative Media Toolbox 6.02.01 install probl

Just wanted to ask if anyone has had any problems with Media Toolbox 6.2. not installing correctly? I have downloaded it about 4 times, and tried installing it about 9 times, and it still does not appear. I have got the correct version of Flash installed, and Creative tell me the download file is for both XP and Vista..But thats about ALL I can get from them, apart from just telling me to re-download and re-install.. I even treid a re-install after cleaning out the registry of all creative files after deleting the program. Does anyone have any suggestions, or work-arounds?
Thanks

• Creative Media Toolbox 6 Probl

I have bought and installed the above product but have yet to get it to work on my dual core PC running XP SP2. I have made sure that I have the most up to date Adobe Flash installed but all I get when I click the short cut is the image of red sphere and no Flash implementation runs from the start up screen.
I have removed and reinstalled I don't know how many times now but have failed to get any use from this piece of software. It's very disappointing and frustrating. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

• Creative Media Explorer for ZEN 16GB on Win7 Acting Weird

E-mailed Creative support earlier this evening only to have them get back to me that you only get a year of e-mail support This is what I originally wrote to them:
"Hello, Creative Media Explorer now acts strangely whenever I try to add music purchased from iTunes. If I drag-and- drop the iTunes music using Windows Explorer, a window will pop up saying "Preparing" and then a conversion will proceed where the iTunes music is converted from the .m4a format to a .wma file. When I try to use the "Add iTunes Media" wizard from the main Creative Media Explorer window, it says "The following files are not transferred" and says "Unknown error" under the "Reason" tab. This has never happened before. I have looked up the specs for the Creative ZEN player, and it says it can play purchased iTunes music, so I should not be seeing a conversion box or an error. I have previously added iTunes music with no problems and they playback fine. The only way I can add purchased iTunes music is to directly add to the player without using the Creative Media Explorer through "Portable Devices". When I add purchased iTunes music this way, it asks me "Do you want to convert (filename) before it s copied to your device?" and I see the options "Yes, convert and copy" and "No, just copy" with a warning on the bottom that says "Your file will be copied, but might not play on your device." I add the music, and it works fine.
I have tried the "Repair" utility under "Add/Remove Programs" in Windows; I have un-installed and re-installed the program from the original CD-ROM; and I have un-installed the program from CD-ROM and re-installed the program by downloading the .exe file for 64-bit systems from the ZEN webpage.
The only thing I can think of is that an update for Windows may have messed something up with Creative Media Explorer."

• Creative Media Toolbox

hello. I am having problems using this software. I am wanting to use the equalizer section but I'm not able to add music.
I clicked on music file then music but it only shows the file where the music is stored: It does not open further so that I can add individual tracks. Same thing with all the other sections of the program. It simply does not see my music files.

I think the modes will not switch automatically as that is case for my X-Fi Go! Pro. I just use one of the modes and adjust the Surround and Crystalizer effects to the level I want.

• Creative Media Toolbox, should I use it?

Okay, so I installed Creative Soundblaster X-Fi Titanium awhile back and noticed that there is a game mode vs. an entertainment mode. After doing some research I found out that there is some software that allows me to switch between these without necessarily having to go directly into the sound card settings manually to do so. So my question is as follows: Does anyone know if the settings change between entertainment and game mode automatically? If not, do you think I should use it? I ask because I am setting up my computer again and want to know some of the more complicated ins and outs for the sound card (note: I am not exactly a noob at computers, just with sound cards). So if anyone could give me some information, it would be greatly appreciated.

• Can WMA files be burned into Cd format using Creative Media Sour

If so - using what version. I have recently had to "back track" my instsallation to version 00.2 in order to get everything to run properly. But this version does not support conversion of WMA files to the cda foramt.
Thanks

Version 00.2?? I have version 3.30.2. Where did you got the 00 version form??I am sure the version 3.30 supports conversion from wma to cda format. Otherwise, use Windows Media Player, or the Creative Audio Converter to convert from wma to mp3, then burn those mp3 with Creative Media Source. To get Creative Media Source 3.30.2 go to the Downloads page and search for it. It is free, the same as Windows Media Player.

• Converting from WAV to MP3 using Creative MediaSou

I am trying to convert from WAV to MP3 using Creative Media Source Version 3.30.35. The program says it is converting the file to MP3 but when it has finished and I examine the properties it still says the file format is WAV. Can anyone shed any light on this, thanks?

It doesn't change the original file - it creates a new file in the new format. Check where your file destination is set to in the Audio Converter screen.

• Does the 2nd gen nano skip with VBR mp3s?

Hi,
I have a 1st gen nano that skips with vbr mp3 podcasts. I would love to get a second gen for more space, but if it skips like the first gen, I will pass.
Can anybody confirm whether or not the problem with VBR mp3s on the 2nd gen nano skips or not?
thanks

At first I thought there was something wrong with my iPod, but I'm glad to hear this is a common software fault.
I just re-coded my MP3 collection to VBR and find that about 10-20% of my files skipps on my iPod nano (2nd gen). I might up the quality of the VBR and seee if that makes any difference.

• Jet Engine 4 needed for Creative Media Source Corrupt Libr

I have seen this asked before but not answered well.
I just installed Creative Media source for Zen Touch. When I bring up Creative Media source it says that I have a corrupt media library and need to download current Jet Engine 4 from Microsoft. I do that but when I try to upgrade it get the message that I already have a newer version on my computer. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling with same result.
Is this bad software (Creative Media Source) or screwed registry or whatever on my computer.
Better yet can I remove Creative Media Source and just use Microsoft Media 0, i.e. will the necessary drivers be available?
Creative Nomad Explorer seems to be working ok?

Dusty,
Have you also installed the Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 2.8 available from Microsoft?
You can find the MDAC here - MDAC_TYP.EXE
If the difficulty persists, you can uninstall MediaSource via Add/Remove Programs Wizard in Control Panel, delete the MediaSource folder in n C:\Program Files\Creative and reinstall it.
