  • Problems to install Oracle8i (1.6) enterprise edition on Windows 2000. PLEASE HELP

    Hi all,
I am failed to install oracle 8i 1.6 on windows 2000 server. I am getting following error.
ORA-XXXX CREDIENTIAL RETRIVAL FAIL. I am getting this error while creation of database. It is giving option abort or Ignore. When I pressed Ignore after not nothing working out, it simple keep running. When ever I try to connect SVRMGRL I am getting TNS adaptor error. Please help me any one.
    Thanks,
    Swetha.

Its a problem with oracle and pentium 4 processors actually. The solution involves renaming or deleting the symcjit.dll in the 8i installation package after you've copied the whole Cd onto your HDD!
I've tried this and it install OK, with a few errors along the way, now I can't get the apache server working, nor on the 9i AS that I've installed as well. Let me know if you get anything useful please?

  • Problems installing Oracle8i on Win XP

    Hi,
Anyone knows what to check for problems installing Oracle8i on WindowsXP?
I would appreciate getting a check list so that I or anyone reading the list can understand clearly run through all the steps required in sourcing the problem.
I am writing for a friend so I can't actually state what he is experiencing; only that the WinXP may have been an upgrade installation and not a clean installation. Could that cause problems. The Oracle8i installed and worked fine on the previous system.
I Would really appreciate hel asap. Thanks in advance.
    Linda

    Lida,
first of all verify the version of Oracle is certified with the version of the Operating System.
then do the following steps to install :
Start the Installer and Install the Oracle Software:
-Insert the CD into the CD-ROM drive
-If autorun is configured, the installer will start automatically
-To manually start the installer, double-click on cd:\setup.exe
-From the welcome screen, select NEXT
-From the File Location screen, select NEXT
-Select "Enterprise Edition" for the Install Category.
-Select Typical to install the software, create a database and start
the database (Other selections are available for minimal or custom installs).
    -Follow on screen prompts
    -The install will begin.
-When completed, the install will have created a default database, configured a listener, and started both for you.
-When the installer completes, you should have a working database running along with the listener.
-Should the installer fail, note the error given. Check nstallActions.log in the C:\Program Files\Oracle\Inventory\logs directory.
Oracle 8i does not have any installation problem with XP.
    hope this will help you.

  • Installed Oracle8i problem

    Dear Friends,
I installed Oracle8 in Windows95 before and had no
    problem.
However, recently I tried a few times to install
Oracle8i in Windows2000(Professional), it always pop
up a message box by saying "Invalid staging area.
There are no top level components for WindowsNT
available for install from this staging area."
The Oracle8i CD shows that it's for Win95/98/NT but doesn't mention about Windows2000.
What components my computer needs? How to solve this problem, what should I do?
    Thanks.

I installed 816 EE on my home NT40 workstation without any troubles. Please make sure that you've suttisfied all installation requirements as written in the Installation Guide.Install other version of Servis Pack. I am usinn SP6. Alo you can try to copy a sample database from cd without creating it

    great appreciation

by the way, i used command ORADIM -NEW -SID xxx -INTPWD xxx to create the new instance
and i did not use oracle assistant to create the new database, instead, I used command CREATE DATABASE xxx LOGFILE xxx CONTROLFILE xxxx.....
also i did set the ORACLE_SID to new SID.....

  • Problem with Installing the Oracle8i PO into Windows ME

I think I have the same problem as some of you had. Recently, I bought the Oracle Book and it has 3 discs: 1 for Oracle Developer 6 for Win 95 or 98, 1 for Oracle 8i PO (release 8.1.5) for Win 95, also 1 for Win 98.
My computer had no problem when I installed the Or. Developer. However, my computer won't allow me to install the Oracle 8i PO Win 98 disc. Instead of that, I have no problem of installing the Oracle 8i PO Win 95 disc. After I installed the Win 95 disc with all correct configuration according to the instructions, I can not CONNECT to the database. So, is this mean the Windows ME is compatible with the Win 95 disc? Or my computer is "screw up"? Because I know Win Me is very much the same as Win 98. If I installed the Win 98 disc, it should be ok. Anyway, I installed the Win 95 disc successful, but can not CONNECT.
So if anyone can help me out, or need a specific error message, I will post up next time. For now, I think I already gave you guys a "head-ache"... sorry.... Thanks all! Wait for your helps guys!

What drivers are you attempting to install?

  • Installing oracle8i in RH9 problem

before installing oracle8i in redhat9 i have installed required packages.but
one package (compat-db-3.3.11-4) was not installed it's asking to install dependency package(libtcl8.3.so).this package was not found in redhat9 cd's.
Is it must to install this package to install oracle8i.if yes please give me the link were i can download that package.
and also send me the link for jdk-1.1.8_v3.tar.bz2 to download .it is also compulsory to install oracle8i in Rh9.

Have you seen apt-get to install packages?
Better yet the apt-get GUI version: Synaptic ?
    Example apt-get install.
    root$ apt-get install synaptic
Synaptic will resolve compatibility issues with packages it can provide! You just may never use the install CD again :)
As for the blackdown link and any other questions you may have, may I refer you to my very own 817 on RedHat 9 Install Guide. http://www3.sympatico.ca/arothmel/oracle/817.html
