Problem on Cisco AP 1240AG and External Antenna

Hi all :
I am setting and configure the Cisco AP 1240AG with 5GHz External Antenna extension. The whole product is called iWap. The problem now is that the wireless signal amplitude only can reach 3 bars instaed of ful 5 bars.
Please help below few questions I have for this setup and configuration :
1. What is the default or original frequency of antenna of Cisco AP1240AG? Can a 5GHz antenna work with the AP 1240AG whereby it is run with 802.11a and 802.11g?
2. If 5GHz antenna can work with 802.11a or 802.11g, what is the setting or configuration needed to be done at the Cisco 1240AG? Or, no setting or configuration needed because it will automatically work by default?
Many Thanks in advance and best regards,
tangsuan

1240 is the product "line," 1242 is the specific model.  The come in both G and AG variants. The link below is a picture of an AG variant (with both an 2.4 Ghz "A" radio and a 5 Ghz "G" radio).  The two antenna ports on the top in the blow image are for the 5 Ghz radio, and there should be some blue text indicating as much.

If you don't have the two antenna ports on top, and just have two near the ethernet and console ports, then you have a "G" model, which only have a 2.4 Ghz radio.  See my pic below.  G model on the left, AG on the right.

I have an old 3315 and I use it on a boat with an external antenna to get a better calling range.
My old 3315 is now having repair problems and I want to buy (on eBay) a more modern phone but still use the cradle and external antenna. A problem with the 3315 is that they are becoming uncommon and the ones that are available have been well used and often have tech problems now.
I see that the 3310 has a similar shape and no doubt the cradle fits it also. I have the antenna on a long piece of coax cable and pull it up the mast on the sailboat to improve the reception.
Can anyone give me some help with this? The more modern I go the more features I get (eg mp3 player, radio reception) however I still want to retain the existing external antenna setup as it is great for camping and boating to stay in touch.
    Thanks
    Peter

Also, what is the length of the cable, and what is the model No of the cradle?
I have a 3310 and can test how well it works with your setup.

  • Cisco 877W router and external ADSL modem

Cisco 877W router and external ADSL modem
In order to support ADSL2+ on a pre ADSL2+ router and in preparation for a later migration to BT infinity I am trying to configure the Router using an external adsl2+ modem appropriately.
The original configuration had 3 ports configured as one (internal lan) vlan and bridge group together with one wireless sub-interface, the remaining port configured a second vlan and bridge group with a second wireless sub- interface. The Dialer was a member of the second bridge group. This way the second wireless interface and associated bridge group provided a kind of DMZ for outbound access.
The configuration I am attempting is similar the lan ports remain the same, but port 0 as a member of the vlan and bridge group (now a pppoe client) associated with one of the wireless sub interfaces as per above. The ATM interface is downed. This nearly works except that if the wireless subinterface on this bridge group is configured the dialer no longer dials giving a 'no dialer string' error. If I do not configure that wireless sub interface all works well.
If anyone is interested to look I would appreciate any comments. I enclose a sanitised config in which you will note the 'commented out' wireless subnet interface (in red).

    Hi Jody,
Apologies delay in replying. I have done the following:
Made two of the FE ports vlan1,BVI1 (for LAN traffic)
Left one port as VLAN10 as the pppoe client conected to the externalmodem
Made the last port VLAN10 as well and gave it an IP addess as for a DMZ client.
I have DHCP configured to serve the DMZ  addresses.
This all works for LAN clients and also works for a client attachedto that physical DMZ port.
When I added a dot11radio sub interface into VLAN 10 the wireless client did not get an IP lease. Everything else continued to work.
I had never thought about this before, but if a dot11radio interface is on the same vlan (but not being part ofa bridge group) why are DHCP broadcasts not propogating to all the vlan members as I would have expected. I recognise that this isa limit in my understanding.
If I then made VLAN10 a member of a new Bridge Group, I lost WAN connectivity as per original posting.
I cannot add another VLAN due to the 2 vlan limit in this image.
Finally regarding your comment about giving it what it wants, what exactly did you have in mind. The dialer already has a dial string parameters configured.
Think I am about to give upon this.
    Regards,

    Hello,
i have the same problem with router CISCO861W-GN-E-K9. Version 12.4(22r)YB5, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)
    Can someone help?
    Thank you.
Here is my config for internal AP and router.

  • Aironet 1260 and external Antenna

I know you can put a minimum of 3 AIR-ANT-2422 antenna on the 1261 AP but my question is, can you mix and match antenna?
Currently there is an AIR-ANT-24120 used on an older 1200 model. Upgrading to a 1261. The 24120 is 12db and 2422 is 2.4db.
Environment is Manufacturing floor with 30' ceilings, worried about coverage. Can the 24120 work on the 1261 or am I stuck with the 2422s?
    Thanks

You can't mix-and-match these two.  AIR-ANT-24120 is a 12 dBi antenna.  The 1260 will not support anything higher than 6 dBi because this model simply doesn't have enough power to do so.
The 1260, 3500e and 3600e doesn't have enough power because in the past people kept complaining that the 1250 needed 20.0w PoE power.  Now the the 1250 doesn't have any limitation about the maximum (maybe it does but I haven't seen or heard of it) gain support.  So Cisco cranked down the power requirement of the new WAPs and balanced it to the antenna gain.

  • Bridge and external Antennas

I am trying to setup 2 1240ap in a bridge mode using external antennas. I am wonder how you line up the antennas to obtain the best signal. I know the 1300 series has software that allows you to see a signal as you line up the antennas, but I don't think the 1240 series has that feature. Any help would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks

    There's a couple things.
You could hook up a laptop at the receiving end and attach a directional antenna to the wireless card. Then use something like netstumbler to position everything where you want it.
I guess you could also use a laser pointer. Mount it on the top of the antenna in question, and target the receiving antenna. Obviously, have the minion you're using on the other side face AWAY from the laser pointer. ;)

  • Car Cradle for Charging and External Antenna Compatible with Tour

Is there a car kit that allows easy charging and connection to external antenna for the Tour?  I had Comfort Cradles by Bury for my last two BlackBerrys, but I just was disappointed to learn that Bury does not have or even plan one for the Tour.  Any suggestions?  If I had known this before, I probably would have stayed with my 8830.  Thanks.

To answer my own query - I just spoke to someone at Smoothtalker and was informed that Smoothtalker will be releasing a charging cradle, with external antenna conttection, for the "Tour" in "about a month."
I still would be interested in hearing from anyone else with any information concerning this.
    Thank you,.

  • Mac mini: WiFi Board Manufacturer and External Antenna Capability

I recently purchased a new Mac mini and plan to run Linux Red Hat Fedora Core 4 on it (erasing OS-X, as it will be a dedicated Linux ap). My particular application requires that I run WiFi. I don't know if Fedora Core 4 running on a Mac mini supports the particular WiFi manuafacturer's internal WiFi card that Apple is using in the current Mac mini.
    2 Questions:
    1. Does anyone know the name of the Manufacturer, and perhaps the Model Number, of the internal WiFi board in the current Mac mini?
    2. Has anyone opened up a Mac mini to see if the internal WiFi card has a standard SMA type connector to the antenna cable so I can utilize an external gain antenna for longer range WiFi?
Thanks, in advance, for any help on this!

Yes, but I don't think that will do the trick. My application involves supporting a gateway for the ICOM D-STAR digital voice and data Ham radio repeater system. The computer (running Fedora) must have 2 Ethernet ports (note: a USB interface supplying a second ethernet connection is unacceptable due to latency concerns). The only way to do this is to use the Mac mini's single (only!) Ethernet port to interface to the ICOM gear. Since you can not add a second Ehternet port to the Mac mini (unless you use a USB adaptor which has unacceptable latency for this ICOM app), you must therefore use the Mac mini's internal WiFi board to connect to the Internet. The problem is that I don't think Linux Fedora 4 supports any drivers for the Airport Extreme card.
I saw on the Internet late yesterday a blurb saying that all of the Macs use the Broadcom WiFi card, and it has not released its drivers. Apparently, there are a few preliminary drivers for the Airport Extreme card on Fedora 5 (in the very early experimental stage), but these are preliminary and based on soemone's reverse engineering, which is always suspect, at best.
However, I don't know if Apple has possdibly switched vendors for the internal WiFi board in the latest Mac mini, since they now have a new unified board that supports both BT and WiFi on the same board/chip. My fingers are crossed that maybe they are NOT using Broadcom on the latest Intel Mac mini?

  • Problem with Cisco VPN client and HP elitebook 2530p windows 7 64-bit

    Hi there
I have a HP Elitebook 2530p which i upgraded to windows 7 64-bit. I installed the Cisco VPN client application (ver. 5.0.07.0290 and also 64-bit) and the HP connection manager to connect to the internet through a modem Qualcomm gobi 1000 (that is inside the laptop). When I connect to the VPN, it connects (I write the username and password) but there is no traffic inside de virtual adapter for my servers. When I connect to the internet through wire or wireless internet, I connect de VPN client and there is no problem to establish communication to my servers.
I tried everything, also change the driver and an earlier version of the HP connection manager application. I also talked to HP and they told me that there was a report with this kind of problem and it was delivered to Cisco. I don’t know where is the problem.
    Could anyone help me?
    Thanks to all.

You can try to update Deterministic Network Enhancer to the below listed release which supports
    WWAN Drivers.
    http://www.citrix.com/lang/English/lp/lp_1680845.asp.
DNE now supports WWAN devices in Win7.  Before downloading the latest version of DNEUpdate from the links below,  be sure you have the latest
drivers for your network adapters by downloading them from the vendors’ websites.
    For 64-bit: ftp://files.citrix.com/dneupdate64.msi
    Hope that helps.

  • Problems booting from OSX DVD and External FW HDD

I've been trying recently to take a Dual-Bay Firewire Harddrive unit running a Oxford Semiconductor OXFW911 Chipset. I have two 250GB Hard drives and on one of these I have it Partitioned into 3 partitions. One is my Scratch Partition, one is the Restore of a DVD Install Disc and the last is a "Pre-Installed" version of OSX. I want to be able to boot from the Install DVD partition and the "Pre-Installed" Partition. I have successfully Imaged the Install DVD Partition and was able to boot from that partition once to install OSX on a computer without a DVD drive.
Problem now is that I can't boot from the partition, or I should say, I select it from the Sys Prefs and it will pass the grey screen to a the blue background and just get hung up. It never displays the dialog to select a language to begin the install.
I also can not boot from the Install DVD. It will show up in the Startup Disk in Sys Prefs but always ends up hanging.
I've tried booting using "Option" and it displays my Internal HD and then two icons for the Install DVD Partition on the External FW Drive. Neither one allows for me boot up.
Any ideas for what I may be missing?
    Thanks,
    Russ

It appears that if the Partition with OSX was installed from anything besides the Restore Disc, the Powerbook won't boot to it.
I think this is ridiculous, and if I've went wrong somewhere, someone please correct me.
    Thanks.

  • Problems with iTunes, Airport Extreme and external HD

    Hi guys,
I am having difficulties playing back films and TV shows which have been downloaded from the iTunes store to a iomega HD which is connected to an apple extreme. During the download, everything looks right and I can even watch it from the iMac (while downloading), from which I purchased the media. But then, once download is complete, I only see the name and generic file symbol for that particular media and I cannot play the media on the iMac or AppleTV and the cover image has disappeared. This does not happen when the external HD is directly connected to the iMac.
I would appreciate some help, if possible. Thanks in advance.

    3.4 dB
    4.4 dB
    6.6 dB
for Cisco 1941W router with external antennas?

How far are you trying to extend the antennas? Those will work to reduce the attenuation if trying to extend the placement of the antennas. Basically they are LMR cables.

  • External Antenna for 1240AG is Required?

    Hi guys,
    1. Do the external antennas are required for 1240AG or they are optional or it depends on mounting location and location size?
    2. If it's required and I want to just use 2.4Ghz radio, do I need to buy two antennas or one is enough?
3.If it's required, do you have any recommendation for a small office with a small warehouse? something like AIR-ANT4941 maybe?

    Hi,
    here are the answers..
    1. Do the external antennas are required for 1240AG or they are optional or it depends on mounting location and location size?
ANS - 1242 NEED the External antennas, without the antena 1242 APs will not work.
    2. If it's required and I want to just use 2.4Ghz radio, do I need to buy two antennas or one is enough?
ANS - There are many advantages of using 2 antennas, one of them is Multipath and there are many to pen down..
3.If it's required, do you have any recommendation for a small office with a small warehouse? something like AIR-ANT4941 maybe?
ANS - Here is the antenna accessories link, choose the one which meets your requirements!!
