Problem on Installing RAC System - Oracle Linux 6.2 and 11gR2
Folks,
Hello. I just start to install 4-nodes RAC system using VMplayer 3. The host Operating System is Windows 7.
The Guest OS is Oracle Linux 6.2.
Because my computer's hard disk does not have enough space, I install the Guest OS Oracle Linux 6.2 into a external hard disk. But its speed is very slow. It has taken more than 24 hours by now, but still don't finish installing Oracle Linux 6.2.
Do any folk understand what's going on ? Is there any problem on Oracle Linux 6.2 ?

Installing RAC on Oracle Linux 6.3 using VMWare ESX
Hi
I have configured a pair of Linux servers following a guide on Oracle-base.
Both servers have their own OS disks and they have four virtual disks that are shared between the two vm's (configured as sharable in VMWare using a separate SCSI controller to the OS disks etc.
The /u01/app/11.2.0.3/grid/root.sh script is failing at what appears to be the part where the daemons are added to the inittab the error i get is :
CRS-4124: Oracle High Availability Services startup failed.
CRS-4000: Command Start failed, or completed with errors.
ohasd failed to start: Inappropriate ioctl for device
ohasd failed to start at /u01/app/11.2.0.3/grid/crs/install/rootcrs.pl line 443.
I have found a few notes of the Internet suggesting disabling IPv6 (It's already disabled)
Restarting syslog
and removing some file in varoius tmp dirs (there were none)
But i'm getting the feeling the issue is with the shared disk config.
Can anyone point me to log files etc so i can troubleshoot this further?I guys I have run into same problem. Is there a solution for this or not.

Hi all,
We are in the process of building our new enterprise environment and tried to install the following:
Oracle Linux 6.0
Grid Infrastructure 11.2.0.2
ASM
OCFS2
Oracle RDBMS 11.2.0.2
Installation of Grid Infrastructure failed on Oracle Linux 6.0 and 5.6 as well. Is it because it's not yet certified for these Oracle Linux versions? Where can we find compatibility matrixes or certification information to find out which versions do work together? Been trying to find them with no success.
Thanks for any help!Dude wrote:
I have recently installed Oracle 11.2.0.2 including ASM, which also installs Grid infrastructure under Oracle Linux 5.6 (default UEK kernel) without any problems. I installed the oracle-validated package prior to the Oracle installation.OEL 5.6 and 11.2..02 Grid Infrastructure installation (for x86_64) failed in our case. Have opened a SR several weeks ago for it, but no resolution. We since reverted back to OEL 5.5 for building and running this specific RAC.
There's also errors in OEL 5.6's Infiniband s/w stack. The openibd service fails to apply errata correctly because the o/s command used has since changed command line parameters. My guess is that testing happened solely on new h/w where this errata did not have to be applied, thus were not tested. Also, this service failed to start the srp_daemon (is critical for making sure that the storage layer works each and every time and does not cause stale connections that lead to command rejections from the storage server after a reboot of a RAC node)
I not only had to fix the openibd service to correctly apply the errata, but also write a separate srpd service that dealt with starting up and shutting down the srp_daemon.
Not very impressed with OEL 5.6 at all and it will be unlikely that we'll use it. And it raises a lot of concern whether OEL 6 would be a robust enough o/s for running our RAC systems. -
Issue to install mhVTL on Oracle Linux 5.9
Hi Everyone
I'm dealing with an issue to install mhVTL on Oracle Linux 5.9, my current operating system. My goal is to install Oracle Secure Backup once that mhVTL is running.
According to the the link https://sites.google.com/site/linuxvtl2, I have followd this steps:
1.- rpm --import https://www.elrepo.org/RPM-GPG-KEY-elrepo.org
2.- rpm -Uvh http://www.elrepo.org/elrepo-release-5-4.el5.elrepo.noarch.rpm
3.- rpm -Uhv http://dl.atrpms.net/el5-x86_64/atrpms/stable/atrpms-repo-5-6.el5.x86_64.rpm
* NOTE: By default, the liblzo2_2 is not installed and my box doesn't have a repository to find it. For this reason I have installed this rpm file that let my box access a repository with the liblzo2_2 lib
4.- yum yum install liblzo2_2
5. sudo yum install mhvtl-utils kmod-mhvtl
After running all this steps, I get the following message if I perform /etc/init.d/mhvtl start:
/etc/init.d/mhvtl start
FATAL: Module mhvtl not found.
No kernel module loaded to feed these daemons.
Need mhvtl kernel module version at least 0.18.11
Did you remember to compile the 'mhvtl' kernel module ?
Please see http://sites.google.com/site/linuxvtl2/
According to this message, I understand, that I haven't install the kernel, so I have downloaded and uncompressed the mhvtl-2013-10-20.tgz file but with no success
1. tar xvzf mhvtl-2013-10-20
2. mhvtl-1.4
3. cd kernel
4. # make
Output:
make -C /lib/modules/2.6.39-400.211.3.el5uek/build SUBDIRS=/tmp/mhvtl-1.4/kernel modules
make: *** /lib/modules/2.6.39-400.211.3.el5uek/build: No such file or directory. Stop.

does someone have a tip to help me with this issue?
Thank you in advanceIf the problem is only to install Xvfb, you can do that doing the following:
# yum list "*xvfb*"

Oracle 11gR2 RAC on Oracle Linux
Folks, need some help in finding the correct asmlib for this linux box, have already tired one and screwed up one box, now trying on 2nd one.
Here is info: Oracle Linux Server release 5.6 x86_64
Please advice, I'm looking at here and tried this one, but it's not working too:
Intel EM64T (x86_64) Architecture

Link: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/server-storage/linux/downloads/rhel5-084877.html#oracleasm_rhel5_amd64
and this is my oracleasm status on the server:
[root@rac1 ~]# rpm -qa | grep -i oracleasm

oracleasm-2.6.18-238.el5xen-2.0.5-1.el5
oracleasm-2.6.18-238.el5debug-2.0.5-1.el5
oracleasm-2.6.18-238.el5-2.0.5-1.el5
Please assist, do I need to upgrade or ... how to fix this problem and proceed to complete the Oracle RAC setup.
Thanks in advance.ASMLib is becoming "obsolete" (by system admins, not by Oracle Corp) and believe it will soon disappear.
For RHEL6 or Oracle Linux 6, Oracle will only provide ASMLib software and updates for the UEK Kernel and the Red Hat Compatible Kernel for Oracle Linux.
I recommend you use udev rules instead.

Installing RAC on 11g - Linux 5
I will install RAC on DB 11g in Lunux 5.
I am evaluating hardware needed for the implementation.
I have two server in Linux.
Server 1 - I have My BD 11G
Server 2 - Is my new server for RAC.
Now. I don't understand about the shared storage.
Is necessary buy a shared storage for RAC? because, I have revised in some notes and It mentioned that not is necessary the shared storage. that with server 1 and server 2 can make a RAC with clusterware It is correct.
Thanks,
GuidoHello,
Welcome to the forums.

You have to have shared file system.
following note should be best for you in this regard where you don't need to buy any extra storage but you can use NFS to build your cluster. This article is for 11GR1, but it can also help you for 11GR2

The server being installed require a valid internet name.

varunHi,
This is a problem with your DNS settings (or lack of), not with Sun Java System Application Server/Access Manager.
You will need to setup DNS before installing.
One of these articles may help you:

Thanks,
YiYou require a patch 6339508 which provides replacement pre-requisite tests. To use it you need to add two parameters to the runInstaller command as shown below.
./runInstaller PREREQ_CONFIG_LOCATION=<PATCH_LOC>/prereq –paramFile <PATCH_LOC>/oraparam.ini
PATCH_LOC is the location where you unzipped the 6339508 patch. With these new parameters the installer correctly recognizes Oracle Enterprise Linux as a supported platform. Note that OEL needs some specific patches when used with SOA Suite and these need to be installed prior to running the installer. Check the documentation for details.

at oracle.sysman.oio.oioc.OiocOneClickInstaller.main(OiocOneClickInstaller.java:2091)Oracle's Universal Installer is a X-Windows/X11 application. It needs a x-server process to connect to - this process displays the GUI and deals with the mouse and keyboard interaction to the GUI.
Your error says that there is no x-server that can handle the display you are trying to create by launching the installer.
You need to read up on how to start and connect to x-servers. The easiest would be installing vncserver, ssh into the server as oracle, run the command "+vncserver+", supply a password and make a note of a display string.
On your client machine (e.g. Windows/Ubuntu/Mac) you download and install vncviewer - you then execute this viewer, and supply it with the display string and password to connect to to virtual Oracle GUI display on the server. Once connected, you run the installer inside that. -
