Problem on installing Solaris 10 on Cisco UCS-C24-M3S2 rack server.
I've got issue on installing Solaris 10 on Cisco UCS-C24-M3S2 rack server. Solaris 10 doesn't recognize UCSC-RAID-ROM55.
Hi dipaktimsina,
From the documentation below it looks like Solaris doesn't have support for the embedded raid controller with the ROM55 chip.

Problem while installing solaris 10 on HP proliant DL 380 G5.
Hi,
facing problem while installing solaris 10 05/09 on HP proliant DL 380G5. The array controller is E200.
i have installed the raid controller driver CPQary3-2.1.0-solaris10-i386, it is going ahead but not detecting the whole hard disk space. My hard disk space is SAS 146GB. There are two 146GB hard disk present. It is showing only 978 MB & only one hard disk. So please help me out. my mail ID is [email protected]I have a similar issue trying to load Solaris 10u4 on an IBM x236.
I had to put in a recognized SCSI card, attach an external array to the card, and install Solaris 10u4 on the array. Then I had to install the correct driver from OpenSolaris (an Adaptec one for IBM ServeRAID), and do a live upgrade onto the now-visible internal disks. Then I removed the array and cleaned up the traces from the live upgrade.
You may have to do something similar.
And last month the boot drive got corrupted when power was interrupted. "Oops. Wrong plugs..." This time the external array will stay connected. -

For the note 578004 Sap said :
a) Copy the content of the respective Kernel CD to a local empty working directory.
For example, for a 4.6C SR2 system you use the 4.6C SR2 Kernel CD, for APO 3.0A you use the Kernel CD for APO 3.0A, etc.
But for myself, i don"t understand what they said because I Want to install 4.6c and they said "use the 4.6c SR2 Kernel CD" but where I can find this CD because I downloaded the files below :

Strange problems after installing Solaris 10 u6 on 64-bit PC
Hi all,
I have run into some very strange issues after installing Solaris 10 update 6 on my 64-bit PC (it's almost new). The problems are with graphical applications and desktop environments based on GTK (so it seems, at least).
I have installed Solaris normally, following most of the default options and choosing the "Entire Group" software packages installation. However, after the first login I've seen that:
1. No user creation process was offered to me and I had to login as root (I find it pretty strange)
2. After logging in as root into JDK system, my screen went blank for a couple of seconds and then the system threw me back to the login screen.
3. Logging into the old CDE environment was possible, but launching Firefox from there (using a command line terminal) wasn't. It gave me the following error message:
ld.so.1: firefox-bin: fatal: libmlib.so.2: open failed: no such file or directory
ld.so.1: firefox-bin: fatal: relocation error: file /usr/bin/firefox/firefox-bin: symbol gtk_init: referenced symbol not found.
It's very strange because GTK toolkit and JDK environment are supposed to be the core functionalities provided by Solaris. Does anyone have an idea what's going on?
My system sum-up:
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quand Q6600 @ 2.4 GHz
RAM: 2 Gb of DDR2 SDRAM
Motherboard: MSI MS-7529 (Intel G31 chipset)
Monitor: AOC LM725
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce 9400 GT
Hard disk: 2 Western Digital HDs (SATA) 320 Gb each,
1 Western Digital external USB HD MyBook Essential 2, 500 Gb
DVD drives: 2 LG DVD drives (SATA)
Network card: Realtek RTL8168C(P)/8111C(P) PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC
I use my system in the following way:
On the first hard disk, I have a one-partition 32-bit Windows XP SP3 installation (ported from my old computer).
On the second hard disk, I have a functioning Fedora Core 9 installed on the first half of the disk's space (the installation is self-organized into several Linux partitions, e. g. /boot, /swap etc; I am a newbie so I don't know too much about Linux partitioning - only specified to Fedora how much space it could use for its volume group). I installed Solaris onto the second half of the second disk.
It has be noted that my USB external drive seemed to conflict with the network or graphics cards during the Fedora installation and caused it to hang sporadically, so I installed Fedora with this disk detached. I also detached it when I was installing Solaris, though it seems to have not influenced the problems I experienced. I also have attempted installing Solaris before I did so with Fedora, but had the same issues.Well, it seems that the cause of the problem was that my DVD image was just corrupted - I didn't check it vs MD5 codes supplied by Sun assuming it went automatically OK. I downloaded the image again (this time it was OK), reinstalled the system and successfully logged into JDS. However, I am still puzzled why Solaris doesn't offer to create a default non-root user during the installation process.

Problem when installing Solaris 10
I've read that there is a post with the same problem I have, but I found no solution there.
So I made this tread, hoping someone willing to help me.
OK, here is the story...
I have tried several times to install Solaris 10, from DVD to my laptop Dell Latitude C400.
(I've run the hardware compatibilty check routine, and it's OK except the video card)
After I made the partition, then rebooted using the DVD and the Solaris seems to load normally.
It apperas the Grub menu, then I choosed Solaris option.
But after that it just stops on a screen that says:
SunOS Release 5.10 Version Generic_118844-26 32-bit
Copyright 1983-2005 Sun Microsystems, Inc. All rights reserved.
Use is subject to license terms.
And it just hangs, nothing more...
Any idea what should I do to install Solaris successfully...???
Thanks in advanceHi Darren,
Thanks God I've succesfully installed Solaris 10 to my laptop, after "swimming" for a while in google :)
It said that this was a bug of Solaris 10 when installed in PC with Pentium III or II processors.
Here is the solutions (hope someone with same problem with me could find it useful) :
1. After the GRUB menu appears, edit the kernel line then append -kd at the end (to enter kmdb upon boot), then boot
2. Then type this command when kmdb prompt shows, [0]>
[0]> cmi_no_init/W1
[0]> :c 3. It should boot and run without problem, then follow the installation menu and option
4. After reboot, again follow step 1 & 2 when GRUB menu shows. I promise this is the last time :)
5. To make it permanent, add this following instruction to */etc/system* once the system up
set cmi_no_init=1//Henry -
Problem of installing solaris 8
I got the following warning message when I install Solaris 8(Intel x86) on

Then I ignore the message, press ENTER key to continue. Everything seems ok, but when it boot the SunOs(even not begin to install), it restart
my computer without any prompts. I try to install it again, but the same
restart happened again .
I think the problem maybe result from the motherboard or display adapter.
Could you tell me how to resolve it?
my email: [email protected] I'm looking forward to hearing from you.
Thanks for your time.
Best regards,
Charles MaoI am having the same problem with an ASUS K7M and Athlon 550, but only after I fixed(!) the conflicting addresses in the Windows device manager. Win95 had also reported the same conflicting addresses before but I fixed it by deleting the PnP device and rebooting - Windows assigned new non-conflicting addresses. Solaris boot was still showing the conflict but now also crashed as you described.

I faced that problem when I was a beginner on solaris as you were. I tried to install solaris to my windows installed x86 based PC. in my fisrst few attempts ý always saw that message, afterwards somehow I managed to install solaris to my PC but this time windows failed.I think that is because of the inconsistencies between those OS but if you need to install solaris you can use VM ware workstation with this software you can use both OS without problems. -
Hard disk problem after installing Solaris 10 u5 on a Sun Ultra 24
Hi.
After receiving a new Sun Ultra 24, shipped with Solaris 10 u4, the first thing I did was installing Solaris 10 u5. X wouldn't start but that was not a big problem and installed it in text mode. Installation went fine but, when the system starts, a single beep is heard and after some seconds some warning message appear on the console, before the "Hostname: ..." message, informing that some read operation on my hard disk had timed out and were aborted. The system then starts up normally. The only other anomaly is that the diagnostic partition in unbootable.
I ran the hard disk tests from the tools and drivers CDs and all of the tests were passed. Solaris 10 u4 was working normally so I'm wondering if this may be a bug.
Thanks for your help,
Enrico. Thanks anyway, I discovered what the problem was: a bug in Solaris 10 u5:

Problem with installing solaris 10
hi.
I'm using Intel-based processor for my stand-alone computer running Windows XP Professional with a broadband connection.
As directed by one of the guys here, and also by my own research, I found the documentation for installing Solaris 10 on x86 based computers.
By navigating through the documentations:
'Solaris 10 Release and Installation Collection' >
'Solaris 10 Installation Guide: Basic Installations' >
'2. Installing With the Solaris Installation Program (Tasks)' >
'x86: Performing an Installation or Upgrade With the Solaris Installation Program'
I followed the instructions as stated in the documentations and set BIOS to boot from CD.
It didn't worked. My computer went on to boot from my Windows OS located in my hard disk. (CD is my first boot device in BIOS)
I have 4 CDs now for Solaris 10 installation.
Each of the CD has a ISO file respectively.
Please help! One or more of the following:
(A) Your motherboard and/or CD-ROM drive do not actually allow booting from CD even though all of the settings seem to be set correctly. I've had this happen to me before. Try a different CD-ROM drive.
(B) Your CDs are written from bad ISO images.
(C) Your CD writing software does not properly create bootable CDs. If you use Windows, Nero is highly recommended.
(D) Your CDs were written too fast. Rewrite the CDs using the slowest speed that your CD writer will allow. -

UCS C220 M4 rack server extremely noisy
Hi,
I am preparing a UCS C220 M4 with windows 2012 for a client.
The server is extremely noisy, I mean much more than any other rack server I have ever seen.
All the fan are working at highest speed rate as if the server had to urgently cool down.
The question is: Is this normal ? Is the server broken ? Is there an option to lower the "fan-policy".
And how is this done.
Best regards,
Javier ConejoThe fan policy can be lowered if you go to the Server> Power Policies> Fan Policy.
Here is the explanation for each option:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/unified_computing/ucs/c/sw/gui/config/guide/1.5/b_Cisco_UCS_C-series_GUI_Configuration_Guide.151_chapter_011.html#concept_8CB787DF70304E98BE25D120466418B9
Balanced This is the default policy. This setting can cool almost any server configuration, but may not be suitable for servers with PCIe cards, since these cards overheat easily.
Performance This setting can be used for server configurations where maximum fan speed is required for high performance. With this setting, the fan speeds will run at the same speed or higher speed than that of the Balanced fan policy.
Low Power This setting is ideal for minimal configuration servers that do not contain any PCIe cards.
High Power This setting can be used for server configurations that require fan speeds ranging from 60 to 85%. This policy is ideal for servers that contain PCIe cards that easily overheat and have high temperatures. The minimum fan speed set with this policy varies for each server platform, but is approximately in the range of 60 to 85%.
Maximum Power This setting can be used for server configurations that require extremely high fan speeds ranging between 70% to 100%. This policy is ideal for servers that contain PCIe cards that easily overheat and have extremely high temperatures. The minimum fan speed set with this policy varies for each server platform, but is approximately in the range of 70 to 100%.
There are still some PCIe cards that cannot be monitored and cause the policy to be "ignored" so the server can be kept cool (I'm not saying that is your issue, I am just mentioning it)
Open an SSH session and enter the commands:
"connect debug-shell"
"sensors"
Paste the output here for the FAN sensors (they will have the word "FAN" on it)
Be sure you air flow is not blocked at all by doors or cables.
