Problem on installing Windows XP

I am new to mac, and have been using PC all my life. I know an ok amount on the mac but not too well. I followed the instructions in Boot Camp Assistant and created a partition, then inserted my Windows XP Home Edition SP1 cd and ran the installation with the blue setup screen. When its setting up and checking things it takes me to a screen saying a Windows XP cd is not valid, please insert a windows XP cd and press enter to start the installation. But whenever i press enter it brings me back to the same screen. Can anyone help me out, i just bought my Macbook yesterday and have no idea whats goin on.

Check the requirements - I believe Boot Camp still requires a single-CD WinXP+SP2 install disk.

  • A lot of problems after installing Windows XP using Boot Camp on a Mac Book

I have been having a lot of problems after installing Windows XP Home Edition (2002).
For one, after installing Windows using Boot Camp with Mac OS X 10.5.1, I opened Windows on my Mac Book, inserted the Mac OS X Disk 1 as in the instructions and got the message: +"This package requires a newer version of the Windows installer. Do you want to update the version of the Windows Installer on your system?"+ When I clicked Yes (I had NO idea what it meant at the time), I got the message: "The required resource 'UPDATE' is missing" and the Installer quit.
How do I fix this problem?
Another problem I have is that there is no sound on the Windows XP, yet it works perfectly on Mac OS X. Is there any way to fix this problem?
A third problem I have is that I can't wirelessly connect to the internet using Window XP, yet I can on Mac OS X. I have no idea on how to fix this, and it's really messing with me. D:<
D: There are way too many problems, and I have a feeling there will be a lot more later on. Help....

  • Problems after installing Windows 7 Professional on Thinkpad T61

I have an old T61 that had Windows Vista installed. I wanted to use Windows 7 but didn't want to wipe out what I already had (for various reasons). So I bought a new disk drive and did a clean install of Windows 7 Professional. The disk drive is a Western Digital Blue Notebook 1TB drive. After installing the drive in the machine, I followed these instructions to install Windows 7: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-74108. I chose to partition the drive into a C: drive (500GB) and a D: drive (431GB). After the install completed, I downloaded all the available Microsoft fixes (this took some time to complete).
For the Device Driver and Application install, I used the ThinkVantage System Update option. The site indicated that Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 with Service Pack 1 or later was required. I downloaded and installed version 4. There were additional Microsoft fixes for version 4, which I downloaded and installed also. Then I downloaded and installed ThinkVantage System Update 5.03. I then executed System Update and selected all the available updates. They all installed, except for Windows 7 Update Module KB2615763 64bit. This update, after failing, gave the option to install manually but when I click on that option I receive a pop up saying: Installer encountered an error: 0xc8000247. The title of the pop up says Windows Update Standalone Installer.
I then attempted to install various applications on the machine: FileZilla FTP Client, Google Chrome, Notepad++, PrimoPDF were all installed without problems. When I installed a Cisco VPN Client for 64 bit machines, however, I was knocked off the network. Clicking on the WiFi symbol in the task bar showed that I had only limited connectivity to the network. I tried to do a IPCONFIG /ALL  and neither the WiFi adapter nor the Ethernet LAN adapter showed up in the list. I uninstalled the VPN Client, from the Control Panel, and was immediately able to connect to the network. An IPCONFIG /ALL now showed all the network adapters. I installed/uninstalled the VPN Client several times just to make sure that it was causing the problem of no network connectivity.
I fgured that there might be updated network adapter drivers available to resolve the problem so I attempted both System Update and Windows Update again. System Update showed nothing available, except Windows 7 Update Module KB2615763 64bit. Windows Update had a message saying "Check for updates for your computer" but when I clicked on "Check for updates" it popped up a message saying "Windows Update cannot check for updates because the service is not running. You may need to restart your machine." I checked and the Windows Update service is running. I stopped and restarted it but received the same message when I tried to check for updates again. I rebooted the machine and tried Windows Update again. Same pop up message.
I tried the "Fix problems with Windows Update" option in the Control Panel but received a message saying - An error occurred while troubleshooting: A problem is preventing the troubleshooter from starting. The error details say:
    Package ID: WindowsUpdateDiagnostic
    Path: Unknown
    Error Code: 0x8E5E0247
    Source: Engine
I tried some of the other troubleshooting options and they all give similar errors - An error occurred while troubleshooting: A problem is preventing the troubleshooter from starting.
I then thought it might be a disk drive problem so I tried to do a CHKDSK /F but when the machine reboots the CHKDSK seems to start (there is a message that says it can be interrupted by pressing a key within 10 seconds) then, before the 10 seconds are up, it ends without checking the disk and the machine continues to boot up.
Has anyone seen any of these problems before? Did I miss something? Could this be related to the disk drive? Or missing device drivers? Bios?
Any help with this will be appreciated.

A laptop drive that size is almost certainly an AF drive.  You can check by looking up the model's specs on the vendor's site. You can also use the fsutil command to check the drive's physical sector size and verify that the size isn't getting reported correctly - which is what usually causes the update problem.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/982018
Expand the "Issue 6 Fsutil.exe tool" entry in that link for more info.  The entire KB may also be helpful.
If my guess is actually the problem you won't have to reinstall Windows 7.  Just update - or roll back  - the driver.  You might first try going to Device Manager, selecting the storage controller, and rolling back to an earlier driver.
If that works, configure ThinkVantage System Update to not show the offending driver, or this will happen again.  If that doesn't do the job, go to Intel's site and find the latest Matrix Storage Manager or Rapid Storage Technology that is specified for your chipset and operating system.  Or just try the latest and if that doesn't work, try earlier ones.
    https://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang=eng&ProductFamily=Software+Products&ProductL...
Here's a local KB addressing this (presumed) issue:  http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Windows-7-Knowledge-Base/Windows-Update-Fails-After-Installing-New-Hard-...
To repeat, this is a bit of a guess.  It's pretty likely that your storage driver is the culprit.  Either you need one new enough to support the physical size reporting ioctl, or you've been bitten by TVSU "updating" to a buggy driver.  Either way the corrrect driver should fix things.

  • Problem to install Windows 7 with Bootcamp

    Hi everyone,

I'm desperate... After few days trying to install Windows 7 I'm asking for some help.
I checked soooooooo many forum, tried sooooooo many stuffs, install and desinstall sooooooooo many programs and nothing works...
    So I have a Macbook Pro 13" (2009)
      Model Identifier:          MacBookPro5,5
Processor Name:          Intel Core 2 Duo
      Processor Speed:          2,53 GHz
      Number of Processors:          1
      Total Number of Cores:          2
      L2 Cache:          3 MB
      Memory:          4 GB
      Bus Speed:          1,07 GHz
      Boot ROM Version:          MBP55.00AC.B03
When I install bootcamp it works and restarts the computer by itself but I ALWAYS have a problem here.
First scenario : black screen and white cursor
Nothing happens; have to switch off the computer; press Alt to choose Mac partition.
       2.  Second scenario : same BUT screen displays "No bootable device, please insert CD and press any key"
            Same
Have to precise that when Bootcamp create a partition it is empty; no file in it. My co-worker told me that Bootcamp is supposed to create files automatically...

  • Monitor calibration problems after installing windows 8.1

I have a hp envy m6-1105tx and right after installing windows 8.1 my monitor changed completely.
When i have a photo open in photoshop tones, colors luminosity, gamma etc are all wrong. Before i never had problems, when i looked at a photo in photoshop and i will see the photo on a different screen it would be basiclally identical but now the photo in photoshop is much different than the actual photo, and this doesn't apply only to photoshop but to everything. I already try to do the calibration through the control panel but it didn't improve the situation, is there a way to get the screen back to the way it was before?
    Thanks

    Wehodancer, welcome to the forum.
I checked for an updated driver for the video, but there is none for Win 8.1.  Therefore, I suggest installing the original driver for the video to see if it helps.  It may be that it was corrupted during the update process.

  • Crazy problem after installing Windows 8.

For years I had my EA4500 without single problem. And then I had to reinstall windows and I decided to select Windows 8.1 sinse then I can't connect to the router. I still can connect to work router, router at StarBox and Macdonalds and phone tethering WiFi and basically all AP and Routers but my home router. All other devices still work okay. Like my ipad and phone. This thing is driving me crazy. I can't understand why in the world by installing Windows 8 router decided to decline me of service. When I press connect I see message "takes longer than usual to access" and nothing happens.
    We Got What It Takes

Typically this is due to driver issues in Windows 8. Sometime removing the adapter and letting Windows reinstall it works and other times a driver update is required.

  • Any problems when installing Windows 7 SP1?

    Hello everyone,
I just got myself a MacBook Pro yesterday and today I just installed Windows 7 Ultimate via Boot Camp.
I want to update it to Windows 7 Service Pack 1 and was wondering if there were any problems with doing that.
For example, driver issues or errors?
I don't use any HFS software or anything, if that matters.
Anyway, it's my first time posting here and I hope to get some answers.
    Thanks in advance!
    Cheers.

    Hi,
I installed Windows 7 Home Premium on my Macbook Pro (Early 2011) using Boot Camp and then updated to SP1 and there seems to be no issues with it so far. Just make sure you set the start up disk to the Boot Camp partition so when the Mac restarts for the update it boots back into Windows, you can change it back when Windows says that the SP installed correctly.

  • Audio problems after installing Windows 8.1

Hey, so I got this laptop (HP ENVY TouchSmart 15-j013ea) last month, I downloaded 8.1 when it was released and my audio has been shocking since installing. I've tried uninstalling the IDT drivers and having the default Windows driver, but both are pretty terrible.
When I have headphones plugged in, I can hear a low buzzing noise, like somewhere the audio is set to a crazy high volume, that sort of buzzing. When I'm playing audio through the speakers it sounds like how it would if you had headphones plugged in but you weren't wearing them, really low and like it's far away
Hope that sorta explains the problem, really ruining this laptop and so far Windows 8.1 seems horrid

Try installing the driver from the following weblink:
    http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp61001-61500/sp61258.exe
if the issue persists, please provide the hardware id of your sound card using the following steps:
    1. In the search option of Charms Bar type devmgmt.msc. Select the resulted file in the left pane. This opens Device Manager.
    2. Unknown devices would be listed as such and marked out with a yellow question mark.
    3. Select the sound video or game controllers, unknown device or other device for which you need drivers and right click to access Properties.
    4. In the Properties window click on Details tab and select Device Instance Id  or Hardware ID from the drop down.
    5. An alphanumeric string like this PCI\VEN_1217&DEV_7130&SUBSYS_012F1025&REV_01\4&6B16D5B&0&33F0 is the identification marker for the device.
    6. Please provide this number so that we can suggest the appropriate driver.

I tried with the Windows Ultimate Vista x86, but occurs the same.
Please, what can I do to install the Windows in my Macbook Air?
    Thanks a lot!

No, I did not get a solve. Actually, my problem worsened. I tried it again, but this time the computer wouldn´t detect my alu keyboard, hence I couldn´t select a drive to tell the bloody thing where to boot from. That is weird, because at the time I opened this thread it did work. I actually had to borrow a wired keyboard so I could hit alt and get it to work.
At the moment I am not so keen on trying it again......
