Problem open pdf files from windows xp or W2K3(Not from Windows 7)

Hi,

Thanks

I had to install adobe reader, but   PDF's used to display just fine with IE, any idea what happened ?

  • Problems opening .pdf files created in Windows in MAC

My clients that are using Macs are having problems opening password protected PDFs that I created in Windows. Any suggestions?

Are your clients using Adobe Reader on Mac, or the built-in Mac OS Preview?  Preview does NOT support the full PDF standard :(.

  • Problems opening pdf-files from KM of portal

    Hi,
we store documents in our portal in KM. When I use pdf-files that where not saved with Office2007 tools I get the problem, that I can open the file once. If I open it the second time I get the error message "file doesn't start with "%PDF-". and the file will not be opend. If I delete the temporary files in the internet explorer, the file can be opended, again.
If I open the file directly in the internet explorer I don't have those problems, so it seems, that the portal uses a different viewer than the internet explorer itself.
Has anyone an idea how to solve this problem?
    Regards
    Ulrike

    Ulrike,
I think this is a known issue.
    Affected versions:
o KMC SAP NetWeaver 7.0 (formerly named 2004s) SP 14
o KMC SAP NetWeaver 7.0 (formerly named 2004s) SP 15
If you have the above KMC and SP Versions then you need to follow the below SAP note:
Note 1146711 - Problem opening PDF files.
Have you checked the belowSAP Note?

  • Problem opening PDF files for Adobe Reader

Problem opening PDF files for Adobe Reader.
I installed the latest adobe reader for my Mac. Everything is set up. Every time i go to open a pdf file, this shows up...
"Before viewing PDF documents in this browser you must launch adobe reader and accept the End User Licence Agreement, then quit and relaunch the browser."
I installed it through the adobe reader website for free. And even though it says 'by clicking "install now" you are agreeing to accept the user licence agreement terms and conditions' it still says i need to accept the T&C's.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling it and same thing over and over again.
    Can someone help!?!?!
Please contact me via email direct ASAP at....

Did you actually try doing what the message suggests?  Open Adobe Reader and accept the EULA?

  • Problems opening PDF files from Websites

I just had the contents of my (dying) ibook transferred onto my emac. The tech created a new user/desktop on the emac. Now, when I try to open PDF files from a website, I get a window saying this:
"Downloading - users/myname/desktop/xxxxx.pdf could not be saved because an unknown error occurred. Try saving to a different location."
Points to note: 1) The "xxxxx.pdf" part of the above message changes each time I try to open a pdf document, even the same one, and it does not show the real name of the document (e.g. CollegeApplication.pdf)
    2) this never happened on my laptop;
    3) the settings are set in Firefox to download pdf's to my desktop;
    4) I have the latest version of Adobe Acrobat, which I already tried opening before downloading.
    Any ideas? Thank you!

Will the new account save to a different location?
Is the "myname" that appears in the error message that of the new account or of the old one?
Following up on Frank's tip about file permissions, is it possible that the GID of the new user account conflicts with the existing? The existing admin user was likely GID = 501 on both Macs, and depending on how the laptop's data was transferred, the internal ownership of the transferred files still points to 502 rather than say 502.
have you tried the old standby of running Disk Utility's Repair Permissions on the hard drive?

  • Problem opening pdf files with Adobe Reader in Windows 7

I bought a new Dell (Inspiron 5110) with pre-installed Windows 7 Home Premium (Version 6.1 SP1, 64 bit) and pre-installed Adobe Reader X (10.1.1). I cannot open ANY of my old pdf files with the Adobe reader (even after I re-installed the Adobe Reader). On another computer with Windows 7 I get the same error message. When I installed several other pdf-readers (Sumatra, Foxit, ..) I can still not open the pdf's -- but all the pdf's still open under Windows XP on my old computer and they also open on all my colleagues' non-Windows 7 computers. So it appears to be a Windows 7 problem. The Adobe error message says 'Adobe Reader could not open _.pdf because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (…..).
N.B.: I can download pdf files from the internet and can then open these 'new' pdf files with Adobe Reader X.
N.B.2.: Most of the 'old' pdf files are scientific articles downloaded from various journal websites 2002-2011, so their quality should be out of question.
N.B.3.:I've transfered the files via memory stick and portable HD.
N.B.4.: If I try to open the pdf's via 'Open with' the problem remains the same.
N.B.5.: When, on my Win7 Dell, I've uploaded/attached one of these old pdf files to an email the rtecipient could not tead it. But he could read it when I'd sent the same file from my old Win XP computer.
N.B.6.: I have repeated this last observation: When I upload an old pdf file on my Win7 Dell to my email account and then send it to myself, I cannot open/read it on my Win XP (nor on the Dell, of course). Although the file size is precisely the same.
N.B.7.: When I download a new pdf on my Dell, then upload/attach it to an email also on the Dell and send it to myself, I can download and read the attached pdf on both computers.
Would be grateful for any suggestions.

    This is really strange.
Please correct me if I am wrong, but from what I can understand, any PDF which is launched on your Win 7 OS fails to open, even though the same file works perfectly fine on your Win XP machine?
Could you please run a full system anti virus scan on the said PDFs that are present on your local system. It could be a case of infected PDFs.
Also, it would be great if you could try and download some of the erroneous PDFs from the web again, and see if you experience the same behavior.
    Thanks
    Ankit

  • Custom RH9 WebHelp skin: Problem opening PDF file from custom button

Hi, I've been troubleshooting and checking forums trying to figure out how to get a PDF file to open from a custom button on my WebHelp skin. It worked for me once upon a time, but I changed something in the document and tried to upload the new version and it has errored out ever since.
I want to have the ability to open the PDF in a new window from the custom button (called 'Printable PDF' on my skin), so I am using the following custom JavaScript in the 'Click On' field of the the custom button's components: window.open('print_test.pdf','printWindow','menubar=0,resizable=0,width=900,height=500,scr ollbars=1');  I know the script is good because I have the same script for the Support custom button and it works great. The only difference between those scripts is the Support script calls an .html file instead of a PDF and the window names says 'supportWindow' instead of 'printWindow'.
I've tried deleting and recreating the custom button, changing the JavaScript with a developer's help, generating the help on another machine thinking it was a glitch with my browser (using IE8) or RoboHelp license, and combing the help files numerous times. I've also ensured that the PDF file is stored in the skin and project folders along with the other project files/folders. I've used previous versions of RoboHelp and had no problems attaching a Word document and PDF, so I'm wondering if this is a bug in RH9?? Especially since it worked for me initially. Any assistance and/or fresh ideas are welcomed! Thank you!

    Hello again
Happy I was able to help.
MOTW is only present and affects things when you are running content off your local C drive. It's value is in preventing that Yellow Information Bar and all that from appearing when you are using IE. Once you publish content to a server and access it that way you are in a different security zone and MOTW has no influence either way. So there would be no adantage to enabling it before publishing to a server. The only reason you might want to consider enabling it would be if you were copying the WebHelp to everyone's hard drive and having them run it from their hard drives.
    Make sense?
    Hope so... Rick

  • Problems opening PDF files

When I visit web sites using PDF I always have problems opening them. I get the following message each time:
The Adobe Acrobat/Reader that is running can not be used to view PDF files in a web browser. Adobe Acrobat/Reader version 8 or 9 is required. Please exit and try again.
I do have the latest version of Adobe so curious as to why I'm having these problems. If it helps I'm using Windows Vista and have a Sony Vaio laptop.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Thanks for your help. I think I may have solved the problem. I uninstalled Adobe reinstalled but ignored the update for it and it appears to work okay. So, from my expereince it could be the update that could be the problem, though I have seen through the forums different things work for different people.

  • 11-06-11 Cannot open pdf file on web in firefox after update from Acrobat today

Adobe Acrobat had an update that I installed today. Later, when attempting to open a pdf form from a website, firefox does not open the file. I verified the settings in Firefox options and it is selected to open pdf in Firefox but it doesn't work. I am on a Windows XP system with 32bit.

Apparently I was incorrect on the Cisco box, we are using something different now. We use an Extended application server attached to a Meta Call feature server. This is a known issue for them.
"We have discovered an issue that means that the format of fax PDFs generated on most versions of Metaswitch EAS is incompatible with the latest Adobe Reader (11.0.01).  This means that when your end users upgrade their Adobe Reader to 11.0.01, they will no longer be able to view faxes received from EAS in PDF format."
The same is with version 10.1.5. I uninstalled 10.1.5 and reinstalled 10.1.4 and the problem went away. No updates for us for now

  • FIx for Problems opening PDF files

Forget about downloading a new version of Adobe Reader. If you are having problems opening a PDF file all you have to do is right click on the file and Save As (someplace you can go back to such as Desktop)Then go to the desk top (Windows Key + D) and open the file. I hope this helps a lot of people.

    Good evening,
Thank you for your prompt response.
    BACKGROUND:
I have been sending files to this customer for a couple of years. He says he's not doing anything different. I am not doing anything different either. He gets the same response on two different computers. He has no problems with files from anyone else. None of my other clients have this problem. I can open the same files if I send them to a different computer. I even tried zipping the file....no luck. I do send the files to him and myself in the same e-mail....so I would think if it was damaged...it would be damaged on my end as well?
    INFO
Windows XP (both of us). I am printing to pdf from InDesign CS3. ( I did try exporting...same results)
He has Acrobat Reader 9. something. I have Acrobat Pro 9.
He is opening his e-mail, then clicking attachment, then clicking "open".
He also tried "save" and still same results.
    RESULTS
He gets an error message to the effect that "the file is damaged".
On the zip file he gets error message "file is corrupted or damaged"
Any advice will be appreciated. We have only had this problem in the past couple of months.
    Thank you,
    MamaMille
