Problem opening doc & PDF's

A small but not insignificant problem, compiled a project
(fine) placed on the server and the staff access it via a mapped
drive or shortcut to said server, all ok apart from one computer
which will not open any documents or pdf files, the prompt comes up
but click on "open" or "save as" and nothing happens. I'm stumped
and IT dept are sas well.
Any help folks ?

Are the security settings on that computer set too high?
Good luck,

    Hi George ,
Is it happening with all the PDF' or any specific one?
Could you please share the error message so that we can replicate at our end ?
Try repairing reader  once and see if that fixes the issue.

  • I am having problems opening some PDF docs on my Mac Book Pro?

I am having problems opening PDF documents, I have already checked and I do not have my pop up blocker on, Is there an app that I need to get? I just bought my MacBook Pro and love it but need to get it set up and this is on of the things I am having a problem with. Any advice?
    Thanks Kimberly

Is this a problem opening pdf documents in a Safari browser window? If so, you'll need to download Adobe Reader. It will install the "Adobe Acrobat NPAPI Plug-in". For opening pdf files off-line, I also recommend Reader - Preview will choke on forms sometimes.

  • Problems opening a PDF in Acro Reader 8 with BuddyAPI?

I apologize in advance for not having enough information to
properly diagnosis this situation, I’m encountering
considerable resistance from others in my company to go back to the
client and ask for additional details, but here’s the
    situation:
We’ve got a project out in the field that opens PDF
files using BuddyAPI (code below) … it worked fine when the
client machines were all using Acro Reader 7.x Some time during the
year the client’s IT department upgraded everyone to Acro
Reader 8.x, now it works on some machines and not on others. I
don’t know how many machines it doesn’t work on, at
least one, probably two (vs 4000 copies of the project out in the
field). What do I mean by “doesn’t work”
…well, I’m not really sure … when I ask if the
client can open the PDFs directly, outside of our app, I get an
answer similar to “yeah, they must have tried that …
just post the question on the forum” … I also
don’t know if an error is generated, I’m told simply
the PDFs don’t open, although if an error were generated I
would think someone would mention it. Sorry to vent, I know
it’s not much to work with, but if someone else has a similar
problem I’d love to know about it.
BTW: I’ve got 3 machines here in the office all with
Acro Reader 8, works fine on all of them.

    Hi all,
I just posted this in anotehr thread dealing with the same
    issue.
I have emailed Gary who develops the Buddy API Xtra and he
    did some
testing and this is what he reported.
It seems that when Adobe install Reader 8.0, they don't
    implement an
'Open' association, but a 'Read' one. If you right click on a
    .pdf file
you will see that the actions available don't include Open.
    Now, this
should only affect people using an older version of Buddy,
    that was
something changed for Acrobat 7 and .fdf files, so that if
    there wasn't
a Open action, it used the default one instead. So the best
    option is to
use the current version of Buddy. But to make it work with
    programs
still older buddy that can't be changed, it should be
    possible to write
a .reg script or updater to add the Open command to the list
    of actions,
then older version of buddy will work. You can use this
    script in a
projector to update the registry so that pdf files will open.
    So that
could be used in a updater projector.
    on setAcroOpenReg
    str = baReadRegString(
    "Applications\AcroRD32.exe\shell\Read\command",
    "", "", "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT" )
    if length( str ) > 0 then
    baWriteRegString(
    "Applications\AcroRD32.exe\shell\Open\command",
    "", str, "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT" )
    end if
    end
    Hope that helps.

  • Problems opening & printing pdf files created on a Mac

I am at my wit's end! I recently upgraded to a new version of Acrobat and suddenly a lot of my clients could no longer open my pdf files. I uninstalled the latest version of Acrobat and reinstalled an older version (Acrobat 8.1.3). Some clients started being able to open my pdf files but others could not. So I started using the Acrobat Share server and sending links. Some of my clients cannot open those either and many cannot print even if they can open the files that way. I personally also cannot print from the Acrobat Share server. The pdf files print out with all the surrounding graphics and application design elements. I also can't open the pdf files that I created on my Mac using my PC laptop running Vista. I have tried opening and printing both pdf files and the Acrobat Share links from my Mac and my PC laptop running Vista, to no avail.
I was under the impression that compatibility problems between Macs and PCs were largely a thing of the past. I was also under the impression that the whole point of exchanging pdf files was that pdf files are cross-platform compatible. Not only am I am losing tons of valuable time, I may be losing credibility with my clients (especially since I have an IT background). I desperately need to know what version of Acrobat I should be running on my Mac so that when I scan documents into my Mac, the pdf files that are created are completely 100% compatible with both Mac and PC operating systems regardless of what operating system and what version of Acrobat my clients are running. I also need to be sure that those same pdf files I create on my Mac can be seemlessly printed out from either a Mac or PC regardless of the operating system or Acrobat Reader version. If anyone can help me get to the bottom of this, I will be eternally grateful. Thanks.

This file downloaded and works fine for me in Preview on both OS X 10.5.7 and 10.4.11 (and opens in Acrobat Pro 9.1.1 and 8.1.5, and the latest version of Reader on both versions of the OS). As expected.
If you're printing from Acrobat.com by right clicking in the image area and selecting Print, don't. This isn't printing the PDF, it's printing the Flash frame that contains, as you've noticed, buttons and other elements. (Adobe's Mac Flash plugin is notoriously buggy.) Direct your clients to download the file by selecting the download button, not by right clicking and printing.
Again, your PDF file is fine.

  • Problems opening some PDF's with new version of Adobe Reader X

Ever since the latest update for adobe reader has come out I have been unable to open some PDF's. This was never an issue with the older version. When I try to open certain PDF's the reader says "Not Responding" and nothing happens. This does not happen on all PDF's, just some.

Ditto on Darrenz16's problem.  New WIN7-64 Home Premiun system with Adobe Reader 10.1.2.  Reads several files, then starts locking up when I try opening new files.  Seems like Reader is failing to release some resource and eventually running out of whatever it is.  Rebooting seems to help temporarily.  Never had this problem on previous systems.  A set of good examples are the .pdf files at the bottom of this page:  http://www.hussman.net/weeklyMarketComment.html
I can open a few, but then Reader locks up trying to download the files.

  • Captivate Facing Problem - Opening a PDF

    Hi,
I am using Captivate 4.0. I have developed a course which has a link to open a PDF file.
I have created a link and also I am able to open the PDF, but the problem is it is opening in a new browser window. I want the PDF to open in a new tab in the same parent window.
Pl. help me in resolving this issue
    Thanks

There is no way to do that from within Captivate so you can only open it as a new window.
If I am not mistaken there is a new property in CSS3 that allows you to open a new tab, but this would require that you have pretty good experience with writing HTML, CSS and JavaScript to make it work. You could then write a JavaScript function that will open your PDF and in Captivate have a button that calls that JavaScript function when the user clicks on it.
It would be a lot of trouble just to get a new tab though and you should also keep in mind that this would fail in all non-CSS3 compliant browsers.

  • Problem opening a pdf

    Hello,
I have received an offer regarding some real estate plans from Sternon Intercity but i can't open the pdf. As I was told, there are some large pictures there, can that be the problem? It just says corrupt file and nothing else happens. Does anyone have a clue what i should do about that?
    Many thanks,
    Taylor

If I understand you correctly, I would say you have a file associations problem.Unfortunately, I don't know how to correct this in Wndows, but similar questions have been posted many times.
And next time you have a new question, open a new thread for it.

  • Problem opening .doc files in pages/.xls files in numbers...

My hard drive recently failed and has been replaced.  Since the new hard drive was installed, I am unable to open .doc files with pages or .xls files with numbers.  I never had this problem before.

    I have I-work 09 [Pages 4.0 (727)]
This is the same version I had before (I think) -- At the Apple Store they used a new I-Work disc to install it onto the new hard drive.
I hope someone can help with this!
    Thank you!

  • Problems opening a pdf in Chrome since I upgraded to acrobat reader dc

I have been unable to open a file using Chrome since I upgraded from Reader XI to Reader DC. Instead of opening the file in Chrome, it wants me to save the file onto my hard drive, from where I can then open it using reader dc.
This is true for both of my Windows 8.1 PCs.
I CAN still open a pdf from Internet Explorer and Firefox.

Starting in Chrome 42, NPAPI plugins like Adobe Reader will no longer work nor be shown in the chrome://plugins page.
    http://www.chromium.org/developers/npapi-deprecation
The Chromium team has decided to remove support for NPAPI plugins like Adobe Reader. Here's a blog post that describes their decision - http://blog.chromium.org/2014/11/the-final-countdown-for-npapi.html
To view PDF files in Adobe Acrobat Reader DC, we recommend that you download the file in Chrome and open it from your desktop.

  • I have problem opening a PDF file in my GP process

    Hi,
I am using an interactive form/file approval callable object in my process. I created a callable object of type interactive form(IF) outside the process(this will start the process). I mapped the interactive form contents.... I download the form, fill it and submit. When I run my task, I see only the two buttons(document accepted and document rejected). I don't see the PDF (attachment).
From the forums, I realized that there is a bug in Adobe Acrobat Professional version 7.0 in viewing the PDF. So I downloaded Acrobat Prof (TRY) 8.0. With this version, I was able to see PDF in the action along with the two buttons I mentioned. But I am unable to open this PDF to see the data(to review my data).
Can somebody suggest what I should do. Is there anything I am missing here.
I did not see any examples where this type of CO is used/implemented.
    Thanks in advance
    Sandy P

    Hi,
           I got it working.

  • Problems opening a PDF

Whenever I try to open a PDF, I get a default Adobe window that comes up - it's like it's wanting to know what to do with the document. The PDF never opens and there is not an option with that window that opens up, to open that file. Also, when I try to close that Adobe window that comes up it will not close. I click on the red X and nothing happens - I actually have to "Quit Acrobat" in order to close out the window that opens or any PDF that it will actually let me open. I am able to open up one of the files in the "Open Recent File" column, but not the file I need to open - I have to open it in Preview.
This is the window that pops up....

Change the default for opening PDF's to Preview. If you don't know how then please click:
