Problem opening downloaded programs.

I've tried downloading programs like Mojo, Openoffice, neo office but after the download when I click to open the file an error message comes up saying not recognized. I bought my computer 3 months ago. When I download songs or anything this problem doesn't arise.

A couple of things to try:
- Repair permissions using Disk Utility (in your Applications/Utilities folder) - click on your hard drive on the left side of the Disk Utility window and click Repair Permissions on the lower right.
- Download the program using another browser (if you used Safari, try Firefox, and vice versa)

If you are downloading .exe files, those are Windows programs, and will not run on your Mac unless you install Windows on it. (That is possible, if you need one of those apps.)

Problem opening downloaded PDF files

When I click on a PDF link in Safari, I would normally expect the document to open with Acrobat 7.0.
What is happening now, is that the screen changes to 'browse' option asking me to identify which application will open the PDF. When I click on Acrobat 7.0, the screen goes blank.
So, basically, I can't open downloaded PDFs from Safari, (though it's Ok with Opera, Firefox etc)
In the Acrobat prefs, in the internet settings, 'Display PDF in browser using: Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional (7.0.0)' is checked.
Mac Power PC, 2G RAM, OSX 10.4.11; Safari 3.2.1, Acrobat 7.0.0

Do you have more that one version of Acrobat or reader loaded?
Only one is certified to work at a time.

Problems opening downloads on my iMac

I posted this question about a week ago, but never saw a response, and can not find it now.
I am not able to open downloads of software or other things. I know I should just be able to double click on the file and it should open, but it doesn't. When I right click on open with, it says 'do nothing'... and that's exactly what it does.. nothing. I have found the path to the DiscImageMounter, but when I click on that I get an error message saying the file type is not recognized and cannot be opened. Somehow, the preference to open downloads has gotten corrupted.
Can anyone please suggest a fix for this.

The startup disk may need repairing.
Launch Disk Utility located in HD > Applications > Utillities
Select the startup disk on the left then select the First Aid tab.
Click: Verify Disk (not Verify Disk Permissions)
If DU reports errors, start up your Mac from your install disc to make repairs.

Can't open downloaded program

Mac virgin here, I just dumped Windows and switched over a couple of days ago. My old pc died, so I've downloaded a program that will enable me to transfer tunes from my ipod into itunes on my new mac. Problem is, when I click on the saved program, nothing happens, I can't get the program to open. I've tried opening from my desktop, and from applications with no luck. What am I doing wrong??

Yes, Apps that you drag and drop into the Apps folder are pretty self contained. So just drag it to the trash and empty. There is also a .plist file in ~user/Library/Preferences, usually com.name-of-app.plist. You can drag that to the trash also.

Problem opening downloaded report in Excel 2007 with Hierarchy (BW 3.5)

Hi,
When we download a BW (3.5) report from the web to excel with an hierarchy (for example on a GL account or cost element) and try to open it in excel (version 2007), it takes a very very very long time (aprox. 15 minutes) to load a simple report. Normally this should only take 5 secs. When we download the same report without an hierarchy it opens as fast as normal.
This problem is very recent and in the last year at least we have never encountered it.
Do you know what could cause this and how we might be able to fix it?

Trying to Open Downloaded Program on Desktop

After I download igadget onto my desktop, I am not able to open it becuase it says: "The document "igadget1400.exe" could not be opened. Script Editor cannot open files in the "Script Editor Docuent" format."
Any Ideas? I just want to be able to download this program.

Second this. I have several programs that I simply have to have for which there are no Mac versions or equivalents. For this reason, I have a windoze peecee sitting next to my Mac, taking up space that I would love to use for something else. The idea of being able to run these apps on my Mac is sufficient motivation for me to plan on replacing my beloved G5 with a new Mac Pro. I will most certainly wait until my other "critical" apps (Photoshop, inDesign, etc.) are released in stable universal versions but that's the only thing holding me back at this point. But to run windoze on my Mac for some dippy ipod thing?...NOT!

Problem opening Mail program

After a restart when I tried to open Mail I got the following error message- >>> "problem saving information in mailboxes" <<< and it says to try to restart the program but nothing happens. Each time I have to reboot the computer to try to gain control again. I have tried doing this a few times but it won't open properly.
Any thoughts?

As an addendum, anyone with IMAP or Exchange accounts should be aware of what Apple says about reindexing by this method at:

Note the advice to remove account folders, and let Mail build new ones for IMAP accounts.

Problems opening all programs!

Every program I open does not respond immediately. The spinning wheel always appears. Why is this occuring? Is it the battery? I have force quit all programs that were open hoping this may solve the probelm but it hasn't worked. Any ideas?

this situation could be due to either a software problem, a hardware problem, or a combination of the two; let’s presume for the moment that it’s due solely to a software problem.
Try booting your MacBook Pro into Recovery mode by holding down a Command key and the R key as it starts up. Once the Mac OS X Utilities menu appears, select Disk Utility. On the left-hand side of the Disk Utility window, select your internal disk’s boot partition (typically called “Macintosh HD”). On the right-hand side, press the Verify Disk button if it’s not greyed out; if it is greyed out, or if it reports that errors were found, press the Repair Disk button. Once the verification/repair is completed, exit Disk Utility and select Restart from the Apple menu to restart in normal mode. Do you still get the perpetual spinning wheel?

CAN ANYBODY PLZ HELP: problem opening any program including internet explorer

i recently got rid of "vista internet security 2010". Took me many scans to wipe it and it seems like i finally cleared it. Now i cant click on anything without it popping up a box saying,
"open with: choose the program you want to use to open this file".
I dont understand what happened but it started doing that right after i used my antivirus and it found the trojan.
can anybody plz help me fix this withouth me having to do a complete system restore?

Very wierd. Since upgrading to SL I can't open .dmg's of applications downloaded to the computer. Any ideas?

Though it showed finished downloading it may be incomplete or corrupted, if you right click it is it the correct size? Also try right clicking and select run as administrator.
I have an A135-S2256 running Windows 7 with only 2 GiG of ram. Mine runs Nero fine but it is real slow doing it, the video graphics is not so good on these old laptops and I have had it fail to convert some video like flash to ntsc at times.

Problem opening downloaded and purchased games

I cant open the downloaded games, open and blinked off everytime. the games that I downloaded are the HD games and I have enough space. At times I can open it and then it just switched off to the main page.

Your iPad might be out of memory.
Try closing all you multitasking Apps.
If that doesn't work reset your iPad by holding the home and power button until it turns off.

Problem opening a program: Iomega Storage Manager

The program Iomega Storgage Manager won't open anymore on my MBP. It appears on my taskbar and disappears immediately. One month ago, it still worked, under Lion. Which steps can I take to acces my NAS again? Thanks in advance!

Deleting the LenovoEMCStorageManager-username file (latest version got renamed Version: 1.4.4.14439) in my ~ (home) driectory worked as well. I'm not exactly sure why the files existence or contents matter. Maybe some detritus leftover from an ungraceful shutdown.
Further I was monitoring the console and there were no erros thrown. Definitely could use some improvement on error reporting under these circumstances.
I have a Iomega/Leveno PX12-350R configured with 12 - 3TB drives and mount a large share off it in 4-5 place. The deivce performance has been great. I've had independent 3 writers/computers hitting it pretty hard and one reading and it performed well. Everything is tied together on 1Gb switch behind the router - ariport extreme.

Problems opening downloaded books

Whenever I download a book that I purchased from B and N I get this message, "Document is licensed for different user account." I can't open the book, find on my Nook or anything. What am I doing wrong and how do I fix it?

Digital Editions does not yet support reading books purchased from Barnes & Noble. To read the books on your computer, you best bet will bet download the B&N software.
As for it not appearing on you Nook, if your Nook is registered to your B&N account, then all purchased books should be in your My Library on your Nook.
