Problem opening excel files exported from Discoverer Plus 10.1.2.48.18

I can't open excel files (xls) exported from Discoverer Plus 10.1.2.48.18 when I enable macros. The application (Excel) hangs up.
Someone have any idea about this?
Thanks,
Diego

Hi Meifang
I did some more research and found a document on MetaLink 250820.1 that talks about Discoverer not being able to call Excel if Discoverer is running via an IP address instead of a qualified domain name.
The article talks about making Discoverer a trusted site in the Internet Options of IE. Here's the relevant info from the posting:
Workaround for MS IE (if necessary):
1. Open a new MS IE browser
2. Navigate to: Tools | Internet Options Security where you will see the Trusted Sites icon (green icon with a check mark)
3. Click the Sites button
4. Add the following: http://IP:port/
(where IP, port are the location of where Discoverer server is running)
5. Click the OK button
6. Click the OK button again
On my own PC, I was having a similar problem and I was unable to get Excel to launch. In the end I did this:
1. Open a new MS IE browser
2. Navigate to: Tools | Internet Options | Security where you will see the Local Intranet icon (computer icon against a globe)
3. Click the Local Intranet button
4. Click the Sites button
5. Click the Advanced button
6. Add the following: http://IP/ or http://website
(where IP or website are the location of where Discoverer server is running)
7. Click the Add button
8. Click the OK button
9. Click the OK button again
10. Click the OK button a third time
With this done, I made sure that my Explorer settings were correct by doing the following to ensure that a couple of settings for the .xls & .html file types are unchecked:
1. Open Windows Explorer
2. Navigate to: Tools | Folder Options | File Types tab
3. Highlight the Extension XLS (or HTML)
4. Click the Advanced button
5. At the botton of the screen are three settings that use checkboxes. If either of the following two are checked, un-check them:
Confirm Open after Download and Browse in same window
6. Click the OK button
7. Click the Apply button
8. Re-boot the PC
After I did this I was successfully able to get Excel to open from within Discoverer.
Best wishes
Michael

    When I attempt to use Illustrator CS6 to open an .eps file exported from Google Sketchup Pro 8 I get the following error message "the file is an unknown format and cannot be opened".    If I try to place/link the file I get this message "can't place the illustration. • How to open a defult workbook from Discoverer Plus

    Hi all,
    Is it possible in Discoverer Plus for a user to open a pre defined worksheet in a workbook when he logs in without having to select the workbook and then select the worksheet?
    Please advise how to achive this.
    Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you all.
    Yjk

    Hi Yjk
    This is possible but you will have to alter the URL call to do it and add the workbook name to the end of the URL.
    You can use either the names of workbooks and worksheet or unique IDs of workbooks and worksheets. Using unique IDs is easier and helps avoid encoding problems with long names. Unique IDs are language independent. The following are the URL parameters to use while working with workbooks and worksheets.
    Discoverer Plus Relational:
    Workbooks:
    opendbid=<workbook ID>
    opendbname=<workbook name>
    Worksheets:
    sheetid=<worksheet ID>
    sheet=<worksheet name>
    Discoverer Viewer:
    Workbook:
    wbk=<workbook ID>
    wb=<workbook name>
    Worksheet:
    wsk=<worksheet ID>
    ws=<worksheet name>
    Discoverer OLAP:
    Workbooks:
    workbookname=<workbookname>
    Worksheets:
    sheet=<worksheet name>
    Note: Discoverer Plus OLAP uses only workbook and worksheet names.
    Examples below:
    How to Find the Unique IDs of Workbooks and Worksheets
    To find the unique ID of a workbook, use thie workflow:
    1. Launch the Open Workbook from Database wizard
    2. Right-click the workbook name
    3. Select Properties.
    The value of the Identifier field indicates the unique ID of the workbook.
    Alternatively, when the workbook is open, select File | Workbook Properties.
    To find the unique ID of a worksheet, use this workflow:
    1. With the worksheet open, select Edit | Worksheet Properties
    2. The Worksheet Properties dialog box opens.
    3. Click the General tab.
    The value of the Identifier field indicates the unique ID of the worksheet.
    The following URL starts Discoverer Viewer and opens a worksheet with the unique ID "156", which is present in the workbook whose unique ID is "MONTHLY_SALES". The connection ID used is "cf_a101".
    http://<machine.domain>:<port>/discoverer/viewer?cn=cf_a101&wbk=MONTHLY_SALES&wsk=156
    If the connection that is used here is a private connection, the user will be prompted for the password.
    In Plus, the same command is:
    http://<machine.domain>:<port>/discoverer/plus?cn=cf_a101&opendbname=MONTHLY_SALES&sheet=156
    Does this help?
    Regards
    Michael

  • Can't open a file exported from Quicken, in Appleworks 6.2.9 Spreadsheet:

    n Quicken,
    File Export gives 2 format choices - Plain Text; MS Excel.
    choosing MS Excel results in file with .slk extension.
    To open from desktop, Finder has no recommended applications.
    from Choose Application, Appleworks 6 is not allowed.
    TextEdit is allowed; produces a text file.
    In Appleworks,
    File Open, for SS type and All Available file formats, produces a listing
    (like text file, not a SS); uses Textedit for some reason.
    Open, for SS type and Excel Win 5 format, shows the .slk file available,
    choosing Open causes Appleworks to quit; Try Again doesn't help.
    Somehow, changed extension to .xls Appleworks still quits;
    now what?? I could do this with an old version of Quicken and Clarisworks

    Welcome to Apple Discussions jimeast
    I don't have the option of exporting as other than a Quicken file type in Quicken 2005 that I can see. I'd suggest exporting as a plain text file. That should maintain the tabs between fields. You can then open it as a spreadsheet through the AppleWorks Open dialog or drag & drop the text file icon on a new, blank spreadsheet.

  • Xls-export  from Discoverer Plus by url-call

    Hi,
    I have the following Problem:
    When I call Discoverer Desktop with a command line statement I am able to export a sheet as xls(etc.) to a specific path (for example ~/export=xls c:/...) without opening the Discoverer Desktop (/batch).
    Now I have to do this with the Discoverer Plus. Is it possible and how i have to specify the parameters for that?
    Regards
    Christian Loebnau

    In a word - no.
    You can only use command-line in the desktop versions (ie: User / Desktop and Administrator).

  • Problem opening excel files due to Hyperion Essbase Addin

    When trying to open an Excel file as an attachment from Outlook (with Excel closed), Excel opens and tries to open the file. However, the file never opens. If Excel is already open and I try to open the file from Outlook, it works fine.I initially thought it was an option in Excel that needed to be changed. However the problem only started after I installed Hyperion Essbase. So I uninstalled Hyperion, and I no longer had the problem. Does anyone know why Hyperion Essbase is causing this problem?

    Hi,You can also turn the add-in off from Tools | add-in menu.Hope this helps,Grofaty

  • Problem opening excel file in new window

    Hi,
    I have a JSF application that sends an Excel file back to the user.
    My backing bean has a method that uses POI to generate the excel file and then write it to the servlet response.
    This works fine if I call the method from a command button, but this displays the file in the current browser window, whereas I want to open the file in a new window.
    I added an onclick javascript call to a command button which does a window.open() to open a jsp in a new window. The jsp contains an empty view, as I'm using an on-load phase listener to make the call to my backing bean method which should send the excel file when the file opens.
    However, when the window opens, I get an IE error message saying 'Could not open xxx.faces', and then an excel error message saying 'Could not open xxx.xls. This may be because the file does not exist, or the file is already open etc etc'
    However, I found that if the popup window goes through a servlet (which just forwards to the jsp page) instead of going to the jsp directly, it works like a charm.
    Any ideas or suggestions on how to fix this would be very much appreciated. If I can't fix it I'll just stick with the servlet approach, although it just seems a bit messy.
    (I'm using IE6 SP2, tomcat 5.5 btw)
    Cheers,
    Stuart

    I'm doing a similar thing, but I use commandLink to lauch the window. CommandLink has the "target" attribute that I set to _blank.  As you would expect, that opens up the page in the new window.

  • Cannot open .mov files exported from FCP X 10.0.9

    I am trying to export an H.264 version of a 422 file for use on Vimeo.  When I go to my desktop and click on the exported file to check it I get a message that says the file type is unsupported.
    Neither my old nor new Quicktime programs will open the file.  I've also failed at directly uploading the clip to Vimeo.
    I need help!
    My operating system is 10.7.5, would this cause the error?
    Thanks,

    Exporting from 10.0.9
    I used the Share button and tried both "Master File" and "Export File" to save an H.264 version to my desktop.

Is there way where we can disable printing column and row numbers before exporting to excel. Problem occurs only when we export to excel from deski. Just printing from excel we can disable printing excel column and row numbers.Please any one answer my query

    Not sure if this can be changed within DeskI options, but it can be changed within Excel. Go to File, Page Setup. In the Sheet Tab, there is "Row and Column Headings" check box in the Print section... deselecting this will stop these being printed.... I'm using Excel 2003...

  • CS5 cannot open .idml file exported from CS6

    I've seen this question before from people having problems with other versions of InDesign. I, too, am having an issue with plug-ins that do not allow me to open an idml file. I downloaded the script that verifies the version used to create the idml to be sure it really was made from CS6, not CS5.5. It's not an empty file as it is 3.3mb Interestingly, when the customer packaged the file it came up with no links. It's a 32-page document with lots of photos, graphics, etc. How it is possible that it would not have any links? Any suggestions short of having to upgrade to CS6 would be helpful. Thank you.

    Hi Peter,
    I'm guessing it might have been a network corruption problem. She brought in her laptop, we made another .idml file and loaded it to a USB stick, then transferred it to my computer. The file opened just fine. And yes, she had pasted all her images, so we have her collecting the bits and pieces for me to review and relink everything. I believe I have the patch, but will double-check. Thanks!

  • Getting message while opening PDF file exported from InDesign

    Hi,
    We have created an interactive PDF in InDesign. In this PDF we have created 15-20 pages which are link together and next previous button is provided.
    We are using InDesign CS3 and PDF reader 9. PDF is exported for version 8 onwards. Exported PDF is working properly on our machine but our client is receving the following message on their machine if they try to open this PDF (they have PDF reader 8):
    "Please Note: You cannot save a completed copy of this form on your computer. If you would like a copy for your records, Please fill it in and print it"
    We have not used any kind of form in my PDF only internal page hyperlinks are given.
    Attached screen shot is given for your reference.
    Is there as way for remove this message so it doen not appear? I would really appriciate if anybody can help me out.
    Thanks a lot in advance.
    Regards,
    Deepika

    Deepika,
    The alert dialog your screen shot depicts will only display if there is some kind of form annotation present in a PDF that is not "Reader Enabled".
    Look closer at your 'final' PDF.
    A PDF, not "Reader Enabled", that contains any form annotations will, when opened by Adobe Reader,
    result in the alert dialog that you mention. A "hard wired" default.
    Note that the forms document message bar can be "off" by a selection in Adobe Reader / Acrobat Preferences.
    Select the 'Forms' category. Select "Always hide forms document message bar".
    Be well...

  • I can't open idml file exported from CS6 in Indesign 4 or 6.

    I created an InDesign document in CS6 and saved it as an idml file to be able open it on another machine with CS4. Unfortunately I did not save a copy in indd copy in 6. I get a message "Adobe may not support this format, a plug in might be missing." any ideas welcome, otherwise I start over Thanks.

    No luck? Did you get any message?
    "Adobe may not support this format, a plug in might be missing." is normally opening if you try to open an INDD in a previous version. That's why I supposed that it might be an INDD file with the wrong extension.
    If the file is not corrupted you should be able to open any IDML in CS6 but also in CS4.
    If you have saved it with the wrong extension, you could try to replace the wrong extension with a correct one.
    You write also HDML? Are you sure that it is also not a HTML file?
